This is an interesting game. I think anyone who enjoys Hotline Miami 1 should try it. *I* enjoy Hotline Miami 1. I hate this game, and it hates me, and never have I played a game where it feels like the designers hate me too, personally as a human, as much as this. I went into Hotline Miami 2 expecting to love it the same way I loved the first one. The first game completely took over my brain. Short levels. Clean layouts. Brutal but fair. Hotline Miami 2 is an extremely ambitious game that has also really earned my respect. The story itself is far more ambitious than the first game as there are multiple different characters with intersecting storylines told in a non-linear fashion, requiring attention to piece together what it all meant. This approach also gives a lot more varied gameplay and different level theming to experience. I think the ending …

yeah man it's pretty fun. if having fun is being subjected to infinite pain and torture. like the first one but the story is better and the gameplay is worse. they very clearly and shamelessly went for quantity over quality in this installment. there are more levels, more characters, more floors, more enemies to murder. everything is larger, but seldom is it better. and perhaps this part is less of a universal experience with this one, and maybe i am simply fueled by rage in this regard, but…

Some of the gameplay changes from Hotline Miami 1 are quite welcome (like the tighter gameplay focus, increased enemy variety and unique level attributes), but there are a whole host of new quality of life issues: ~ Some levels are unnecessarily dark for purely aesthetic reasons, making enemies hard to see. ~ The wide-open map design encourages enemies killing you from offscreen. ~ Doors are even jankier when interacting with enemy AI, made worse by slower executions that ruin your combo (which…

A disappointment in nearly every way. The new levels aren't ever as good as the original, the new masks are annoying, you're forced to use certain characters in most levels, and getting killed by offscreen enemies happens way too often. About the only improvement is the soundtrack which maintains the original's beyond stellar track list.

The story is bigger compared to the first game with multiple playable characters and overlapping stories that try to build a larger plot. On the gameplay side, the levels often feel wider and more chaotic. I had to spend more time creeping, hiding, peeking and trying to bait enemies rather than rushing in. It felt less like playing an action game and more like tiptoeing through a trap. But when you manage to clear a room cleanly by chaining together a run without dying, that feeling of flow…

Hotline Miami 2 is an absolutely great game. In gameplay Its weaponplay is unique, its levels are well designed, and it allows for you to choose between characters before each level. Now, some of the characters are just reskins of eachother and don't really have truly unique mechanics which is something to note for sure but it doesn't allow for you to pick from every character so what can you really do? Its storytelling is also great, I haven't finished the game yet but I am pretty far into it.…

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. My biggest complaint is that it's too inconsistent with with it's own design. When it plays fluidly and what I mean by that when you get a good combo or momentum going it's fun. When you're getting caught on sharp corners, enemies staying stagnent, get locked into an execution animation it can get rather frustrating. That was acceptable for the first game but not for a sequel. When trying to get A+ on a level it would be nice if I could just restart…

The levels are bigger, the enemies are meaner, and half the time I’m convinced the game is side eyeing me for missing a shot.
