Players praise Huntdown as a fun, challenging run-and-gun with great pixel art and 80s cyberpunk style. [1][2][3] Many highlight the game's humor, music, and memorable boss fights. [1][2][4] Some find the difficulty spikes and certain bosses frustrating. [5][6][7]

Well, i understand the attempt, but, boss fights are too overpowered and it is just a chore to get through them. One being, you defeat it, then it restarts with a full health bar, you with none, then has many different moves that happen all at once and when you dies you are restarted back the original start . No. Just no.

Bounty, found!! A wonderful platformer, shooter, and punch-out game. A good plot, just the right amount. The graphics are perfect for this style of game and the atmosphere it aims to convey. Very good gameplay and very enjoyable to play, especially with a controller. Ideal for two players, the difficulty is on the high side but not frustrating. Very enjoyable to play, with good music, good character dialogue, and …

Fun and anarchic platformer shooter but not so frantic because it pays to be careful and avoid enemy fire. Detailed pixel art that goes above the usual. Might not do much new in terms of mechanics, except cover, but superbly polished and executed. Game bleeds 80-90s punk attitude. Complete with cheezy one-liners reminding of Duke Nukem. Very good cover mechanic I only recall seeing in the old Blizzard platformer …

One of the few games I would give 10/10. Pixel art, action, humor, one-liners, voice acting, music, attention to details, just the correct difficulty, references on 80s movies literally on every corner... Everything just clicks for me. If you like sidescrollers and arcade action games you need to try this!

Too damn awesome. Perfect blend of the 80's aesthetics mixed with Cyberpunk. Excellent soundtrack and The Villains are hilarious as well. 10/10 This did something for my nostalgia bone.

Players who liked HUNTDOWN talk about excellent pixel art and 80s cyberpunk aesthetic; those who didn't talk about some bosses are too difficult or unfair. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Huntdown received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Chris Moyse of Destructoid remarked: "Easy Trigger has sculptured its love letter to '80s grindhouse to hit players like a sledgehammer, bombarding them with amazing old-school visuals, fantastic sound, great music, and just enough retro-chic to pay homage to its source material". PJ O'Reilly of Nintendo Life stated" "Huntdown is a delightfully detailed and expertly crafted throwback to old-school run n' gun arcade shooters. The 16-bit graphical style is immaculately recreated whilst adding lots of modern bells and whistles to proceedings, including a fantastic soundtrack and audio design". Stefano…

60 of 325 · most liked firstHuntdown: Overtime | Gameplay Overview Trailer. I thoroughly enjoyed the first [Huntdown](https://store.steampowered.com/app/598550/HUNTDOWN/) so I'm really excited for this. Honestly, it just looks like "Huntdown, but more" which I'm totally ok with. More weapons, more levels, more enemies. Also, making this new game a roguelike makes a lot of sense. There wasn't exactly any narrative structure to the levels in the first game so turning it into a roguelike feels like a natural fit.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Huntdown is pretty much a modern Amiga run and gun game. Great fun and probably one of the best looking games you’ll ever see. Big recommend. 🙂↕️
positive · AI labelView post →Huntdown: Overtime | Announcement Trailer (cyberpunk 2d run 'n' gun roguelike). I absolutely loved the first [Huntdown](https://store.steampowered.com/app/598550/HUNTDOWN/) game. It's a 2d run 'n' gun set in a very 1980s cyberpunk future. Really fun gameplay. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it. Apparently this [Huntdown: Overtime](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2473350/HUNTDOWN_OVERTIME/) will be a roguelike prequel to Huntdown. While I love the idea of more Huntdown, I'm…
positive · AI labelView post →[Game] Huntdown - fun 2d shooter set in a cyberpunk world is currently 80% off ($4). Huntdown is a really fun game. The setting is more "high-tech, low-life" than neon city lights but it's still cyberpunk. It's just heavily inspired by the 80s style of cyberpunk. You basically move from left to right mowing down enemies until you reach a boss fight at the end of the level. So basic arcade-y gameplay, but really fun. Here's a [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tbZ_5RVINA). And it's…

I was a able to spend time with my kid explaining some of the pop culture references and easter eggs and nods in the game. Some times I even paused the game to go to youtube to show her some of the stuff. Man this was really fun. Now they have a new game coming out soon. If you come from the old school of gaming and pop culture this game is fire, fire, fire. And a major go
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chrono Trigger. Hands down my favorite. I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I play that game. It's so so good. Followed by TMNT IV turtles in time. I just love it so much. The soundtrack is rad AF. Edit: I totally forgot about Star Fox! This one's definitely 3rd. I love that game. And the different soundtrack pulls everything together. Then Zelda a Link to the past or Super Metroid. Both incredible classics. Then it's a toss up between a whole bunch of games, old and new. Flashback,…

It's a run-and-gun game that looks a lot like [Huntdown](https://store.steampowered.com/app/598550/HUNTDOWN/) to me (which I loved), but Neon Inferno also has gallery-shooter sections. So I'm interested in giving it a try. I haven't played the demo yet but I'm downloading it now and figured I'd share while I wait for it. > NYC 2055: a city beyond salvation. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is badass, if your tired of AAA slop, this game will put you back in the right path brother.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this game. Great graphics, the overall feel is great, fun shooting, etc. But the game difficulty spikes way too often and way too high. Some bosses are way too difficult (♥♥♥♥ you snake boss lady).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very good and robust run & gun (Contra-like) 2d side-scrolling game. You can't shoot upwards, though.

neutral · AI labelView post →With eighty dollars you can have four or more great games instead. I recommend you try Huntdown first, I have been having a blast with it.
positive · AI labelView post →Macaw got the new Huntdown twelve hours early. First game was one of the best run-and-gun shooters since Metal Slug. Second looks to be a fun roguelite spin on the formula.
positive · AI labelView post →I've been poking around with this kind of run and gun style game called "Huntdown" and it's a weird extrapolation of Rolling Thunder and I love it so much.
positive · AI labelView post →Solid little side scroller with great graphics and vibe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of great games have already been mentioned. Here are some options that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: * **Assault Android Cactus** - twin stick shooter (to access the start menu, you must be inside of a stage, not in the map) * **Jamestown** - bullet hell (get original game, Jamestown+ does not work on Steam Deck) * **Broforce** - 2D side scrolling action game (there's a free version, Expendabros, that you can try out) * **Gauntlet** - dungeon crawler * **Guns, Gore &…
neutral · AI labelView post →Sick old school shoot em up, artstyle is amazing, sound design is literally flawless, bosses are a total highlight with a lot of character reminded me a bit on dead rising psychos at times, awesome setting and guns. I do think the control sheme aint perfect and it would have been nice to be able to map cover and melee on buttons. Overall probably among my favorite "newer" retro games along with SoR4
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminder todays slot will not be final fantasy so i can take a break from the current loop. We will still instead be playing a new game! Huntdown Overtime! just a casual bit of lashing out and hunting bounties!
neutral · AI labelView post →Nah....the premise was very cool...felt like an old arcade game, I was willing to play it on arcade stick even....but enthusiasm went quickly away. Mechanics not very satisfying, and when the enemies during bossfights started spawning right in front of you (out of nowhere) I decided to stop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a hidden gem, incredibly fun game, beautiful pixel graphics, sound design, characters, and gameplay. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very mild don't recommend review. Huntdown looks good, sounds and controls decently, but just doesn't grab me. Perhaps because I was expecting something more like urban Contra/Metal Slug and got something more like Mega Man without much platforming or Castlevania with guns and cover based mechanics. I suppose technically Huntdown is a run 'n gun. Though, it feels more like an action platformer. Enemies take several shots to put down and the game wants the player to make use of 2D…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an absolute banger! The graphics is so detailed, along with the sound it forms the perfect vibe. Had a blast playing this with a friend, not done yet, but so far it's fantastic! Really recommend as a solid couch co-op game. These developers deserve more credits!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fell in love with the first 2 levels with great gameplay and mechanics that I love playing with. Fantastic visuals with stellar pixel art only adds to how entranced I was with the opening levels. Level 3 it starts to fall apart when they just throw a bunch of garbage at you and expect you to be omniscient and by level 4 it's a bullet hell where ♥♥♥♥ just kills you for no reason and it's not fun anymore. Buy the game if you like playing 2 levels over and over again I guess
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not enjoyable. Completely awful if you have any form of photosensitivity. Bought it with a heavy discount and it was short enough that I finished it anyway, but I'd advise against anyone else doing so.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite indie Game An amazing Game good level of difficulty and so much fun Play solo or co op
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll always recommend HUNTDOWN first, although it's going to take closer to 6 hours, and if you're like me you'll want to play it again. Minit is great, ~2 hours. I'm about to play Fishing Vacation for a game club (only ~1 hour) and plan to finally play GRIS this month (3-4 hours).

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's such a fun (challenging but not too difficult) game to play ! Huntdown has awesome synth-driven music, cyberpunk themed levels and quirky one-liners.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No shortage of games that rock the retro aesthetic. But Huntdown pulls it off with incredible style and substance while poking fun at the same time. The visuals in this game are outstanding! The background is full of life as you move from level to level. And the character animation flows vibrantly, bringing a lot of originality to each enemy and boss. So much so, that every encounter feels unique due to various attack patterns and comedic banter. Along with all this is the exception music and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is simply one of the best games ever made. Anything below a perfect score is inaccurate.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely fun but damn frustrating! Die, try and die again, rinse repeat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic side scrolling shooter, genuinely surprised by the amount of mini-bosses and bosses across the stages that changes things up. It does get more difficult than I expected, particularly near the end, but not too much in an unfair way. Definitely worth picking up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great 80's cyberpunk action, reminds me of Arnie in the running man or something! controls are great, lots of weapon pickups, great run-and-gun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →VHS-veiled Huntdown: Overtime, a retro gangland roguelite run and gunner, arrives in early access this year.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's cheesy 80's Bladerunner style at it's absolute best. The game is challenging, there are secrets to discover, the humor is over the top in a good way, and the art is just straight candy. Highly recommend this one if you enjoy sidescrollers, no brainer if that includes sidescrolling shooters!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Levels could be longer, very nice visuals and audio.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good, some bosses are frustrating but overall the difficulty is to face the unknown, once you know, it's much better. The only disapointment me and my gf playing co-op had, was the SMG that is only available in the first half of the game and melee weapons break after a few hits.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been really enjoying Huntdown. Absolutely amazing production in the visuals, music, and voice overs. Level design and pacing are top notch. I'm unfortunately in this weird mode where my brain doesn't want to focus on a game for more than like, an hour, before getting back to work.
positive · AI labelView post →Well, when you say 'many modern games' you're implying that every game sucks currently and in the last few years. Every year there will always be a lot of shitty games but it'd be discrediting to not acknowledge that there are good stuff released every year. In the past 5 years I will say some of the best games I've played that were released were Blue Fire, Inscryption, Flynn: Son of Crimson, Paint The Town Red, Huntdown, Iron Meat to name a bunch. One major gripe I have with people who…

positive · AI labelView post →Good gameplay. Fair difficulty. Cool visuals. Nice game all around.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everyone who loves 80's films and has a controller will ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GAME
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun run'n'gun shooter that starts out fun and easy enough and then has an abrupt difficulty spike halfway through the game, and then it decides it wants to be a quasi-bullet hell shooter. Even on normal difficulty people might find the sudden jump too frustrating to finish the last half of the game. Clearly inspired by 70s/80s gang movies, with The Warriors and The Last Dragon being two obvious points of reference. Great sound design.

positive · AI labelView post →This is a solid, 80's-inspred sidescroller. It has all the bells and whistles you would expect from a modern interpretation of the genre. I picked it up for $3.99 during a Steam sale. For that price, I recommend it. Graphics: Graphically, the game looks as good as the trailers depict it. Characters are well designed, with unique ones every level. Movement of all characters are fluid. Notable is that they can die in a variety of violent ways (shot, exploded, set on fire, ground up, etc.).…
