Some players criticize the developer for splitting the game into multiple titles, fracturing the player base. [1][2][3] The game offers offline bot play and progression, which is appreciated by solo players. [4][5][6]

EDIT 23/05/2026 : I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ called it. Gallipoli coming out soon? I absolutely knew it's such a predictable company. Absolute horrible company that will never listen to the players, money matters to them. I would heavily recommend it, IF isonzo, verdun and such were all in 1 singular game. This company keeps making new games that further shatters the playerbase further, I decided to hop onto Verdun last night had …

Best of the three so far in many ways. The "problem" is this insanely fun depiction of ww1 has been split across 3 soon to be 4 separate games, fracturing the player base. I am not a game dev but BlackMill should see what can be done about merging all previous games content into Gallipoli natively if your account has purchased it. I feel like actions similar to this would help the player base and have better …

Isonzo is one of, if not, the best WWI shooters I've ever played. The gameplay is fast, intense, but also strategic and stressful. Finding yourself alone in the trenches of Caporetto, your squadmates dead on the ground, you can hear the enemy get closer. They're coming, you're reloading your rifle frantically. The game is simply amazing.

very fun and realistic take on ww1, much better than bf1, i'd say, and the best part is that the rifles actually do damage unlike most arcade shooters.

Excellent WW1 game, i enjoyed it a lot, and i plan to play more and more, In case you're a loner (like me) who prefers to play aginst the bots, then no problem, you can grind the gear for soldiers in bot matches either online or even offline, then as soon as you level up all your classes, you can just chill and play custom games where you dictate rules (custom games are avalible from the start of course, but i'd …
Summarised from 34 of the 288 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked Isonzo talk about realistic and historically accurate WW1 experience; those who didn't talk about player base fractured across multiple separate games. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Isonzo was met with "mixed or average" reception according to video game review aggregator Metacritic, on platforms where it received enough reviews for a rating. PC Gamer was positive to the gameplay and said that "thrilling", if limiting, battlefields fit nicely in the game. IGN called it a "well-made shooter" that sacrifices authenticity and distinctiveness for approachability. Push Square said that the game has good gunplay and interesting maps despite noting its technical issues with performance.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Because of BlackMill Games incompetence to do the basic stuff in terms of offline / AI bots, I can't recommend this game nor Gallipoli which suffers from the same problems. - Bots can't level up, so they are always level 1 and limited to level 1 stuff so they won't be using locked content at all. - Bots can't appear as officers so no gas, artillery or anything of the sort can be used by the bots. - Bots won't fix things. - Bots know where you are 90% of the times even though they didn't see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Isonzo is a fun arcade-feeling team fps game, with some flaws in both the game and community. The EU community welcomes new players with open arms, the only issue most players have is player picking officer roles and refuse to learn how to play the roles leading to frustration and sometime insults due to lack of role kick in the game. The non-existence of role-kicking was due to developers wanting to avoid people exploiting the system. Combat is faster and more reactive than Verdun and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Isonzo should've been a DLC. The gameplay, mechanics, and graphics are similar to the previous two iterations (Verdun and Tannenberg). I can forgive Isonzo for being a dead game; it's expected of such a niche title. However, if we're going to be honest, a lot of it has to do with broken or unpolished mechanics that are very off-putting, some which have existed since Verdun. It's somehow worse when you look at how in-depth and detail-rich the developer updates are going back many years, putting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First: this game is quite fun. Good shooting, excellent maps, epic scale. It is not a bad game by any regards, in fact it is a good game. That being said, I do not recommend it for the sole reason that it is overpriced and the dev team - or at least the head of the studio - seems to be a complete idiot in that they continue to release FULL GAMES THAT ARE DIRECT COMPETITORS TO THEIR PREVIOUS GAMES and thus all of their games are basically dead already. I did not find a single server that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks gorgeous, but at this point it’s time to call out its pros and cons and there are quite a few. Some issues have been around since Verdun, but now they carry more weight. Neutral More to do on maps for better and worse. I kind of like the added interactions, but sometimes defusing, sabotaging, or building feels painfully slow and vulnerable. I’m conflicted, as this could have been designed differently. Sometimes defending say a important machine gun post is hilariously impossible and you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The greatest way to realize you are NOT, in fact, the main character. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's one of those games where the team who gets the level 30 Prestige guy wins, because he scores as many kills as the opposing team's top 5 players combined.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredibly good game! very historically accurate, and despite the low player count it has an incredibly loyal fanbase.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tactical team based fps Isonzo free weekend. Only played it for an hour but it's pretty good so far, if you like this type of gameplay. Feels somewhere in between Hell Let Loose and Battlefield 1. Native Linux version.
positive · AI labelView post →This company frustrates me. They put out a pretty unique game in Verdun and since then, they've been selling glorified game modes with new bells and whistles as new games. Not to undermine the work that goes into them, but you're appealing to a niche of a niche already and you're actively competing against yourselves? "Wishlist Gallipoli", this game tells me in the main screen. But why? So I can watch it die an unearned death like Verdun? Witness the stillbirth that was Tannenberg? Or get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While a big fan of Verdun and OK with the Tannenberg, Isonzo, while I tried to like it, I feel is a mix of the two that just doesn't work in single player mainly due to the poor AI. As a multiplayer game, this I'm sure is amazing, but as someone who enjoys more offline play, I found that offense matches were impossible to win, officers were only there for decoration, the AI never equipped anything beyond the level 1 gear, are aware of you before you turn corners, can shoot behind them, or in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing the game at the start, it comes to a point this game franchise is really is doomed. They have made 2 more games (and another one for some reason coming out this year) and all 3 have failed the test of time. The game is good yes, but for some odd reason they rather waste making a game for 3-4 years release it > game being alive for a year > dies What if, yall can UNITE all of those games together (make it possible to match all fronts in ONE GAME) rather then keep going at a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really cant stand the new unlock system in this, i dont want to do stupid challenges to unlock weapons and gear, i dont care about challanges and stuff. I just want to get home after my ♥♥♥♥ job and shoot some bots for an hour. make the unlock system like the first two games. I wont be buying gallipoli or any of their future titles if the progression system is like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy the concept of the game, but it's mainly the bots that is throwing me off and making me uninstall Usually I don't delete games until I 100% them, but the bots in this game are just forcing me to I could be hiding in a place where a human wouldn't notice me, and then the bot just knows I'm there and shoots me Or that bots on my side are useless, and they can't be an officer so no support at all There's also an achievement where you have to kill six enemies while bleeding. Normally…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is ok, there are many improvements from Verdun and Tannerberg, most notably the gunplay and new animation, art is 10/10, same goes for historical accuracy, everything is well researched from weapon to uniform, map environments are well crafted, but positive things pretty much end here. New mode is very unbalanced, attack and defend mode itself is fine, but somehow Isonzo manages to be even more unbalanced than Easy Red 2 (at least ER2 has better AI and is constantly improving).…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →✅ Offline bot play progression ✅ Immensely improved than the first 2 games ✅ Weapons feel realistic to use ✅ Extensive stat records ✅ Streamlined progression and class system ✅ Much better UI ✅ The bots seem to be much better, it's harder to win matches than previous games ✅ Great graphics ❌ Limited gameplay mode available to play with bots ❌ No campaign/story ❌ The starting weapon for every squad (pistol/single shot rifle) feels the same to use I would recommend this game than the first 2…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI sucks to play against, the game is pretty but gets boring after a few rounds. The players that still play are really hard to play against, their aim is impeccable and you get sniped across the map pretty easily.

Amazing graphics, easy on PC, THE ONLY GAME THAT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I'M ON AN ACTUAL BATTLEFIELD! Feels very spacious, realistic and I've never seen anything like this in any other game I've played! I love it more than words can describe! Best money I ever spent!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have any battlefield, Insurgency, or Squad experience under your belt jumping into Isonzo will be completely seamless. The weapons handle fantastic, firefights are fun, maps are well designed and well balanced. I have had the most fun in these early hours of playing that I have had in any shooter in a long time. Grab this on sale and then if you really like it wait for the next game to drop soon and upgrade! Excellent game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An overall good representation of what the Italian front might've looked like, while still remaining a fun and engaging title. While it obviously has to take some liberties for the sake of gameplay and player experience, the game still manages to feel spectacularly immersive, thanks to its jawdroppingly accurate recreation of locations(most of which I've personally visited, since I live in the general area) and for having hired voice actors from the countries depicted; though I cannot speak for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well, after 2 years heres my review. pumped for gallipolli. great game. perfect for those who just wanna hop into a quick match but beware. this game has a dedicated group of og players that run trains on the opposing team. if u feel like someone cheated consider its just a patient squad. tho ppl may cheat i rarely notice it. dont forget to rack ur bolt!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would recommend. Fun game with a full lobby. Boring if it's an all bot lobby. That can happen during off times but other than that, and the steep learning curve, it's pretty fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly that is the kinda area that interests me. So far the main FPS games I like are the WW1 games like Isonzo and Enlisted in low rank games only - because high rank gives every rifleman a machine gun.
positive · AI labelView post →War... war never changes...or does it? The war has changed... did it? The answer is "No", unless it is "Yes". No, of course it is war... Yes...No... Yes?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a very frustrating experience. - Spawn system might just be the worst of any FPS. There is no spawn protection and quite often you will spawn in enemy sights. You also always spawn 200m from where u chose to spawn for some reason. - There's waaaay to many grenades/artillery/mortars. It becomes a screen shake simulator and random deaths are frequent. - Almost every map is on a hill, attackers fight uphill while the defenders hold the top. Not enough urban areas for my taste. - Your…

neutral · AI labelView post →>like most people would think Sorry, have most people not seen the fucking size of artillery? This is why Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo are such immersive WW1 games. So many people dying of artillery and gas.
positive · AI labelView post →My honest review of Isonzo is that it's a great game for historical adaptation and satisfying combat, but it has an abusive price and few truly active online servers. Fortunately, the game has an Offline option that allows you to play and earn achievements and experience with friends and bots. The game offers realistic combat, of the type: "You are fragile and your enemies are too." Anyway, the game is only worth it on sale, I don't recommend investing a lot of money in this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a great game ! Under rated ! beautiful and fun . Friendly to us dad gamers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Isonzo is a great game. Before playing it (it's my first in the WW1 game series), I played a certain amount of Battlefield 1, and Isonzo certainly scratches a different itch. My great-grandfather fought on that front for Italy, so of course, there is some sentimentality involved. Whereas Battlefield 1 is essentially a WW2 game with a WW1 skin on it (overwhelming presence of LMGs, semi-auto, fast tanks that don't break down when merely gazed at, etc...), Isonzo aims to represent the Great War…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI bot support isn't as good as the previous 2 games: Tannenberg and Verdun. They can't use call ins and don't use most of the equipment available to them. It's a shame since I primarily play this series mostly for its bot support. If you're like me and prefer to play solo with bots, stick to the first 2 games as it will probably be more value for you in the long run, not to mention both games are much cheaper than this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good but dont buy it, devs abandoned it a while ago and they will abandon Gallipoli within 6 months of its release as well. Game has great accuracy but look at the track record, Tannenberg, Verdun, and Isonzo all released and then abandoned. Dont make it DLC but it they made it all into one game theyd make so much more money and have more playability. The games themselves arent horrible but the devs are abysmal.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →However, the game previously developed by BlackMill Games was 'Isonzo'. Me and Vanda have written a few things about it. But if we then announced that the company had hired me, we realised that a lot of the academic First World War community would go...

neutral · AI labelView post →This game has given me shellshock, fear of the color green and brown and the wish to storm a mountain trench with random people
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of Verdun, this is really not for me. I was hoping for more trench warfare, instead I got a battlefield wannabe. Sad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great in the Isonzo game, and while it is of course exaggerated, it's realistic enough to retain its real-life role as more trench gun than LMG the actual Arditi loved it given its mass: a featherweight squad automatic weapon that was easy to carry while ascending a mountain. as such, lightly fucks
positive · AI labelView post →Isonzo is the newer one. I haven't played it in a few months, but it's similarly small but I never felt close to anyone there. I play Squad fairly frequently, and it's got a similar feel to what the OP is about. You choose your server with a server browser, and it's frequently got a lot of the same people there all the time. There's some servers that are more casual, and they end up cycling players more so you don't recognize anyone. The more experienced focused servers draw from a much…
neutral · AI labelView post →The good: on one map you can both attack or defend the Schönburg Tunnel, this is great and I love it, I just want to live in the Schönburg Tunnel. The bad: most maps don't have the Schönburg Tunnel, therefore I cannot play those maps, so they should be removed from the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game but the stupid bots that dont need to see you to know that your there that and their incapable of using officers, building supply boxs, resupplying others with ammo and grenades
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very scummy for the devs to make a game on each front and sell it at full price. Should've been sold as cheaper DLC for Verdun!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game looking forward to the next one keep up the good work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →94 hours to 100% the progression system for all the classes. By that point you've seen pretty much everything the game has to show you, as the progression missions very much expect you to try all the different game features. The gameplay is familiar to anyone who has played Rising Storm Which is a good thing, as it gives a load more freedom and variety than Verdun, and isn't quite so convoluted as Tannenberg. The team-based combat gives plenty of replayability for anyone who enjoys…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After trying this game at the recommendation of a friend who has long praised the game I'm a bit shocked this game isn't more popular especially with the recent discounts. Even given its age of 4 years and the new Gallipoli title imminent I found this game to be a significant improvement to other similar titles (in terms of intended audience) such as (Holdfast and Over the Top). On discount this game is well worth a try and everything from the gunplay, to class system, to being spawnkilled…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game because I loved Tannenberg. This game isn't much like Tannenberg. The leveling, weapon handling, gamemodes, and play style is much different. Not to say it's worse per se, but it is for me. Take this all with a grain of salt because I bet I play it differently than intended. I enjoy playing solo, not multiplayer. Doing that on Tannenberg was quite well rounded, but in this game the A.I. doesn't give ammo and that's the only way to get ammo unless you yourself plays as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a great game, with immersive battles and realism, but it lacks players.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Verdun off and on over the years and always loved the game and wished more played it. Decided to grab this during a sale to give it a try and see if they did any better as I didn't enjoy Tannenberg as much. Played a few matches so far and just from a general vibe, I'd say it's ok so far. More people to play with sure but I felt like explosions dominated my games. Dying faster than I can spawn felt way more common than it should. Game also feels even more complicated and confusing than it…
