Jacob's Ladder
Directed by Adrian Lyne
After returning home from the Vietnam War, veteran Jacob Singer struggles to maintain his sanity. Plagued by hallucinations and flashbacks, Singer rapidly falls apart as the world and people around him morph and twist into disturbing images. His girlfriend, Jezzie, and ex-wife, Sarah, try to help, but to little avail. Even Singer's chiropractor friend, Louis, fails to reach him as he descends into madness. From TMDB

negative · AI labelView post →For those who are getting into Silent Hill 2 lately, I have to recommend the film that inspired the franchise; 'Jacob's Ladder'. It's a genuinely creepy, unsettling, and heartbreaking film that will really stick with you and make you contemplate about life and death long after it's over.

It's is a creepy, unsettling, and heartbreaking film that will stick with you long after it's over and make you consider not just life, but what it means to die. This is a wonderful horror film. One of my favorites.

neutral · AI labelView post →191. Jacob's Ladder (dir. Lyne, 1990). Maybe the saddest horror film of the 90s (or, at the very least, a top contender for the title). Its minimal use of practical effects and reliance on nightmare-inducing quick edits to obscure what effects they *did* have? Filmmaking genius.

positive · AI labelView post →I love Jacob's Ladder so much it's a great movie, but when he's lookin through his letters and he whips out a picture of Mccaulay Culkin and starts sobbing, I just bust out laughing.
positive · AI labelView post →I love when streaming throws up a movie I didn't know existed. Stay (frighteningly forgettable title) is a 2005 thriller by David Benioff and Marc Forster. Stars Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, a young Ryan Gosling. Pretty fun, pretty fucked up in a Jacob's Ladder way, massive flop, exhumed by streaming
neutral · AI labelView post →Jacob's Ladder (1990) a film I refuse to watch again. I had nightmares for months. A film that to me was like a trip straight into hell. An experience like no other.

positive · AI labelView post →A film that’s haunted me since it’s release in 1990 is Jacob's Ladder. Vietnam vet Tim Robbins sees demons wherever he goes & has no idea why. The film's all practical special effects have had an outsized impact on pop culture, influencing everything from other movies to video games, eg Silent Hill
positive · AI labelView post →Wow. Oh man. Jacob's Ladder, fuck that movie.
negative · AI labelView post →Name an otherwise great movie where the final 5 minutes ruined (or almost ruined) the entire thing. I'm going with Jacob's Ladder. A wildly unsettling and inventive movie that keeps you guessing the whole time, then spoils the exquisite mystery with an answer that kind of thuds.

positive · AI labelView post →#HorrorWritersChat My first thought: the movie JACOB'S LADDER. As previously mentioned, my stories UNREQUITED & MADNESS IN THE FOREST use internal dreamscapes and nightmares. The book THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE also comes to mind. Was the haunting real or Eleanor's inner turmoil?

positive · AI labelView post →Watched Jacob's Ladder. It's been a decade+ since I saw it last & I totally forgot half the plot. A good film, though. I found it less freaky this time around & more melancholic (but still be prepared, it's not a slasher, but it's not mild either). Good dreamy horror, uncanny & off, wild cast 📽️
positive · AI labelView post →this inspired the entire film Jacob's Ladder (1990)
neutral · AI labelView post →Jacob's Ladder, I think? It's... It's honestly ahrd tot ell exactly WHAT the hell is going on in that movie, if he actually dies by the end or if it's all one huge acid trip XD Terminator 2, if you consider the T1000 the protagonist

neutral · AI labelView post →TRIVIA: Adrian Lyne turned down directorial duties on 'The Bonfire Of The Vanities' so he could direct 'Jacob's Ladder'. His first choice for the role of Jacob Singer was Tom Hanks, but, by coincidence, Hanks turned down the film so he could make 'The Bonfire Of The Vanities'. (IMDB) 🖤
neutral · AI labelView post →While it's certainly vaunted in horror circles and was solidly praised by critics at the time, it does feel like JACOB'S LADDER has left the larger movie conversation and that sucks. Stupendous movie that still has unholy powers. I'll go to my grave thinking about that party scene.

positive · AI labelView post →Watching people still believe the system is going to work to make things right is like watching Jacob's Ladder and watching him convincing himself that he made it home from Vietnam.

positive · AI labelView post →this is why "Jacob's Ladder" (1990) is an ultimately uplifting movie: he makes it out; his odyssey is successful: he moves on
positive · AI labelView post →Also I think Jacob's Ladder is SUCH an incredible film that I have a weird bias when it comes to Robbins' other films even though so many of them are great (Mystic River.)
positive · AI labelView post →It's SPOOP season!!! One of my favorites, from my era, is "Jacob's Ladder" (1990). Kills me that many have never heard of this pure psychological horror movie. It's dated, but the visuals (no CGI) are awesome. Subtle lights, motion. camera and edits make this a great movie.

The film still works like a freight train to the soul, and now looks and sounds incredible. I really fell in love with the film last night.
positive · AI labelView post →309) Jacob's Ladder 8/10 Now that was a 🎵FUCKING BUMMERRRRR🎵 Also, the cast of this movie is wild!
positive · AI labelView post →As far as movies are concerned, it was a lot more scarier when I was younger. Like mentioned, I think the vast majority of horror movies are just... costume playing. One exception, that is not strictly speaking an horror movie but still is a movie that did really scared the hell out of me the first I watched it is _Jacob's Ladder_. I was pinned & terrified. As far as books are concerned, it depends who I'm reading as getting older I've been introduced to real... I would not say scary…
