What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 191 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (6,020 of 6,930 positive).
Players praise the game's humor, vibrant world, and satisfying exploration. [1][2][3] Some find the gameplay repetitive and the platforming frustrating. [4][5][6]

Was hit by the game-breaking Fixer Upper mission bug on my first playthrough, where the 'Deposit' prompt for the Alloy does not appear. Discovered the only potential (no guarantee) fixes are to begin a co-op game (but as this game has friend-only co-op, you need a friend with a copy of the game) or to start again from fresh. This bug will not be fixed, considering the studio shut down just over five years ago. Avoid.

I quickly learned that touching things on this planet is usually a mistake. The first hours turned into this strange routine of scanning plants, kicking weird creatures, and realizing too late that some of them really didn’t appreciate it. Half the time I was exploring, the other half I was trying to understand what just launched me off a cliff. The planet is colorful, ridiculous, and constantly tempting you to …

Just finished my first 100% playthrough of the game. Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. Think of Subnautica, except on land, less scary, less survival-like, and takes itself less seriously, as well has greater boundaries for where you are allowed to go (all within the lore of the game, of course). My only complaint is that the boss fight doesn't utilize the skills you learn throughout the game enough. …

Journey to the savage planet is an okay game. i have played better exploration games and this one was often very frustrating because of unclear direction, controls that are not precise enough and attrocious platforming. Still, exploring is kinda fun, especially if you are playing with a friend. the game has a very specific kind of humor that not everyone likes. i didn't mind it too much, my husband hated it.

Journey To The Savage Planet is more than just a crafting-exploration game; it's a wonderfully executed comedy about corporate greed and alien mayhem. I genuinely loved my time discovering every weird, gelatinous blob and aggressive bird creature. It hits that sweet spot between satisfying discovery and laugh-out-loud writing.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We played Journey to the Savage Planet in co-op with a friend and spent about 5.6 hours on it. We mainly focused on the main quest, with a bit of exploration on the side. Overall, it was a fun and pleasant experience, but also a clearly limited one. Visually, the game is fine. It’s not technically impressive, but the artistic direction does a lot of the heavy lifting. The world is colorful, alien, and quirky, with a strong cartoonish vibe that gives the planet its own personality. You don’t…

Payday 2, Journey to the Savage Planet, Terraria, Backbreaker, Don’t Starve, Sniper Elite V2, How to Survive, Rocket league, Brothers. I can’t think of another publisher who has put out that many big games from different IPs.

positive · AI labelView post →Its an empty game, like a piece of bubble gum that has been all chewed and lost all of the taste. Some people have compared it with Subnautica, which is incorrect in so many ways. There is no base building, no discovering of species really. It is more akin to Ratchet & Clank, a platformer. But unlike Ratchet & Clank there is no sense of speed in it. It is stop and start all the way through. I was trying to get all the stuff, but about half-way through the main quest I just lost all interest and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While its gameplay, story or characters don't have much depth, I enjoyed what there is here anyway. It has humor and charm, both in dialogue and the fake advertisements on your ship and video messages from the CEO. And I have to say Adrian Burhop knocked it out of the park with his acting role here, as he gives important exposition in a very entertaining but cinematic way. The world is visually stunning with so much variation to environments and all kinds of creatures to fight. the platforming…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Journey to the Savage Planet is one of those games that doesn’t take itself too seriously and that’s exactly why it works so well. The gameplay is an absolute blast, blending light platforming, exploration, and goofy sci-fi combat into something that feels consistently fun. You’re constantly scanning creatures, experimenting with tools, and figuring out how to navigate each alien environment, which keeps things fresh from start to finish. The upgrade system is surprisingly satisfying too…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a cute and whimsical game with dystopian aspects to it. Challenging but not overly so with its puzzles and pve. Has a beautiful environment and story elements that make sense with the gameplay objectives.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game I should have liked, but its flaws kept accumulating to the point where if it wasn't for my co-op partner insisting on 100%'ing the save file, I might have just abandoned the game outright. It's a mid-tier action exploration game that has an insufferable narrator robot, weirdly buggy co-op, and honestly just ends up having overall lame game design. (I hope you like Ubisoft style checklist collectables to make progress...) The game will also constantly do things to limit you, like…

neutral · AI labelView post →Journey To The Savage Planet has really nice graphics, clunky controls, cute alien creatures, and is extremely boring! The so called humor is juvenile and there is absolutely nothing about this game that compels me to play it any further. It sucks, I'm done! Not recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After a while this game just turns into Rick and Morty, and not in the good way. Constant dark jokes about dark subject matter to get a reaction out of you that aren't even that funny. The gameplay is subpar and the voice you hear constantly gets grating really quickly. If I groan at the thought of playing your game something went wrong.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Journey to the savage planet is an exploration game, with some combat. Early on the platforming / puzzle solving is easy enough, but later content will get increasingly difficult, and then downright annoying. As for the exploration, you will be gated from a lot of places early on, because of lack of navigation related upgrades. The quests to unlock them will have a destination marker, and even if unlocked, some of those quests cannot be completed until you do another required unlock quest…

neutral · AI labelView post →Been playing my way through Journey to the Savage Planet lately. I meant to get to it quite awhile back but eh. Life happens. It’s pretty fun and doesn’t take itself very seriously at all, lots of humor and some very charming creature and environment design. Best way I can think to summarize it is like “what if Subnautica was really, really stupid (in a good way)?”, only it seems to lack similar base building mechanics as far as I’ve seen so far. Also funnily enough the sequel is coming out…

This game, although short without the DLC, is extremely fun, interactive and full of things to constantly explore. The creatures and boss fights are very unique and always feel fresh. The assistant dialogue i found to be mostly very funny and made the game feel much better overall. This game is very well made and thought out, one of my favorite games! I do hope more people find out about it and give it a go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know who was this made for. A mix of unfunny jokes and just 'cute animal cruelty' in a game about strong hand holding and uninteresting progression. The game feels very mid, it's not terrible, but it's not great either. You just do tasks the game tells you to do while your annoying ship's AI talks non-stop. The jokes are cringe and unfunny, sometimes they're sexual for no reason, and creatures often look very out of place. Environment felt very, very handmade. I cannot complete…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not too many first-person Metroidvania-like games out there and I was stoked to find this one. Pretty solid single player and the co-op works well too. Has enough mechanics to keep things interesting without getting bogged down feeling like the game throws too many things at you. Also doesn't stick around too long and can be beat in a few sessions. Only real ding for me is the dialogue, it's very love it or leave it and I could definitely leave it on mute...
