This game unfortunately, is not worth your time. I love the idea, the city building itself is alright! It's nothing really crazy on it's own but where it is fun is - SCALE You need tons of materials and factories to create your war industry, while also producing consumer goods for ever increasing massive population to theoretically feed into the war machine. I love it, it's messy, it's BIG BIG BIG and if this was …

Kaiserpunk is the game I didn't knew I need. but it has 2 massive issue that make me can't recommend the game and honestly I can't believe the game is released with them. 1- when I started the game, the date was around 1918. in 1919 the AI already expanded way too far and and somehow was advanced so much it had heavy tanks in 1919! one of them was hostile against me so it made me panic and advance soo much soo fast …

I picked up this game because the setting is very appealing and I'm a fan of city-builders. I'll say it right away—it has huge potential. It's like Tropico but with ambitions for world domination via a global map, which sounds awesome. You can easily get lost for hours building your perfect city, then switch to the strategic view and start painting the map in your color. But as always, the devil is in the details. …

After nearly 100 hours with the game, I can say that Kaiserpunk is a very ambitious strategy title with a lot of depth, but also one that struggles with clarity—especially when it comes to warfare mechanics. On the positive side, the economic simulation and class-based society management are genuinely engaging. Building up a stable city, balancing production chains, and watching your population grow feels rewarding …

Interestingly, one aspect of Kaiserpunk that annoyed me terribly when I first started it, is now my favourite thing! That is the dual-level gameplay at all times. At first, controlling city building system and global map at the same time was very confusing and overwhelming. And I kept forgetting something somewhere. Or my resource pipeline failed in the city, or I missed a popular uprising brewing until city was …

Players who liked KAISERPUNK talk about deep economic simulation and class-based society management are engaging; those who didn't talk about user interface is over-complicated and unintuitive. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Kaiserpunk received "mixed or average" reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. In his review for Polygon, Jason Rodriguez, praised its city building as engaging and addictive but found significant issues with other aspects such as the UI and grand strategy. He states that 'trying to get your armies up and running — not to mention your navy and air force — is a painstaking and arduous task', which ultimately makes replaying the game 'tedious' and 'repetitive'. Destructoid described it as a weird mix of genres, a kind of 'Civilization merges with SimCity', reviewing it with a score of 7. IGN reviewer Lena Hafer described it as having an interesting premise, but lacking polish and…

Really cool idea but unfortunately let down by a lack of optimisation from devs despite them repeatedly stating that fixes were coming. I think they bit off more than they could chew which is such a shame. Save your money.

neutral · AI labelView post →Some years ago I’ve been engaged with a small dev team. I know something about process behind video games creation, and from that angle I applaude to what was attempted with Kaiserpunk. Playing it as demo a year ago, then again now, I think accomplished work is amazing. IMO game now does about 70% of features right. Remaining 30% is either too clunky or just doesn’t seem to work properly (like diplomacy, enemy AI, lacking tutorial, boring tunnels through mountains). My biggest concern is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll post this as a negative review because in it's current form, the game has some notable issues. It's not a bad game, but it's not something I'd easily recommend to others *yet*. The game needs optimization. I have a solid computer that's a touch on the older side but can run HOI4, Cyberpunk, BG3 and other resource-intense games well, but this game crashes on anything higher than Low Graphics. The gameplay seems interesting, though the tutorial is a bit vague. Some of the concepts, like…

You have a much more open map, and you can move you stacks around as needed, so I'm very satisfied with how warfare works on the campaign map. Its simply, which is what i want, with some options. New game breaking problems: Before, there were issues with how the game felt and worked. Now there are three game ruining bugs...maybe one is a feature. 1. Feature / bug= Fire. I never turn off disasters in any games I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this during Autumn 2025 Steam Sale for $20. This game is definitely not worth $20. When I first started playing it, I felt like it had some promise. Graphics are dated (2004-2008 era, Command and Conquer Generals level of graphics). Tutorial is just "build this, build that" with a sub-window of just a bloated amount of information. I thought this was an early access game. I checked again, and I was shocked that it wasn't. It's like the devs tried to make an Anno/Patron style game,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ai keeps cheating and leapfrogs you in research and units created. Incredibly frustrating playing for several hours, only to find out that even the lowest difficulty AI is suddenly has units 2 tiers higher than yours, meaning there's no way to win a battle against them. Diplomacy is just awful and world map regions work terribly, since annexing territories is a net negative to your cash flow. Don't waste your time with this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play alot of wargames and this is not one. Not even economic war. The war is with your workers minds: Give them their quota of happy and you can slowly add pieces to your city progressing thru linear unlocks. Enemy AI is nonexistent, trading dynamics are nonexistent, and ultimately; fun/challenge is non existent. The city builder portion is just a linear slog if production chains you do until you unlock military gear. Keep worker morale strong or you will die in a fire (morale…

neutral · AI labelView post →At first glance the game has depth and a breadth of content, from economy to strategic combat. It doesn't. Economy is painfully simple, you will yearn for the more complex simplicity of Anno... or anything really. Yes it has a lot of resources, but there's never any sort of managic economy, or trying to make it efficient or... just build. Money never runs out. Trade means nothing other than 'free' resources (money spawsn out of thin air, just keep your population happy). In sum, this is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper this game is right up my alley. Grand Strategy and City Builders are my two biggest genres, by a very big margin. Unfortunately the abysmal optimization is forcing my hand to return this game. Fortunately, I only needed to make it to Part 3 of the tutorial to find this out. Part 1 of the tutorial was fairly simple and ran well. It's basically a breakdown of the early City-Builder aspect. First disappointment was the lack of real pops on the ground. Everyone is just a number associated…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlike may other players here, I jumped into Kaiserpunk mainly for strategy and military stuff. And on that I felt somewhat underwhelmed. It doesn't play as real time strategy, in fact any direct action is limited at best. All focus is on logistics and preparation of your army. It will be efficient and mighty if you manage to secure a constant flow of manpower, weapons, ressuply etc…but you don't manually lead the fight. After spending some time with the game, I won't lie, there is something…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah yes, nothing like rebuilding civilization after WWI by immediately inventing new ways to make everyone miserable again. Built a factory, caused pollution, fixed pollution with another factory. Progress! 10/10, my citizens both fear and respect me.

neutral · AI labelView post →First impressions: Frustrating. Really need to get some better UI, and split information with a few overlays. War map is cluttered and hard to read, unit banners should be clickable (since they're the thing you can easily see), inconsistent highlights during the tutorial, strategic location upgrades get lost in the clutter, but you need to specifically send units to these important places. The list goes on. Buildings have too much bland upgrades that clutter the interface. You could look at…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I own probably 20+ city builders and I like this one, I recommend it. Why? It's got a good city building mechanic and it's just hard enough to be fun without being frustrating. You'll love putting hours into your city and might even enjoy learning from a failed city or two before everything goes well. This game also seems like a nice indie title from a small studio that nailed the basics. That said, I'm hopeful the game will get better: - The economy can use some fine-tuning (spamming…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m a little bit sad Kaiserpunk is not a real time strategy. I understand it wasn’t marketed as one, but you can’t blame me for hoping. I bought it on my wrong premise and I jumped too fast when saw Tiger tanks, P-51 Mustangs and naval Destroyers. This is a management game and I gave it a chance since I already got it (didn’t wanna refund cause my mistake is not researching beforehand). Turns out I might actually like management games . negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd really really would want to recommend this game, but its just too much of a chore. Usually when I restart Anno games (which it closely resembles) I have a fun time setting things up and then the game dries down eventually into a grind of thousand different needs. Now I lose the interest almost immediately for some reason, perhaps the city building is a bit more dull and pulling all the resources all over the map is tedious. The second aprt of the game would like to be something like…

It has bugs but nothing game breaking, at least for me. But developers are listening gamers and resolve bugs reported in patches. It is easy to get-in/get-out in 30min-1 hour sessions when I have free time available. It is really relaxing game for people who like to think and micromanage economy.

neutral · AI labelView post →There is 'Kaiserpunk' (2025) which is kind of civ-city game with an ongoing Great War. There was also 'Iron Storm' (2002) in which the Great War is still running in 1946. More recently, 'Iron Harvest' (2020) which sees a war running on beyond 1920 but is in a very dieselpunk world.
neutral · AI labelView post →The games great, I've been playing it for a few hours now and I think it's pretty fun and has potential, with that been said though, it's incredibly buggy in it's current state, I've already had a run end because of a bug and before that, have had to restart the game do to issues with the UI and mechanics. On that note, the UI isn't very clear on some sections like the Diplomacy tab for example and somethings like selecting armies are tedious. It also gets incredibly slow in the mid-stage of…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been on a fence about Kaiserpunk for a while. Is a matter in fact, I still am. Game is nice, very playable and fun to experiment with but has some issues like high complexity with inadequate tutorials and lower performance on laptops (at least mine). I’ll still proceed with positive review if nothing else because game is solid with a lot of further potential, and as long as updates come as they do, it can only be better from here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do very much like this game, and was not able to put it down for quite awhile. If you've played the Anno series or games like Farthest Frontier, etc. it is very similar and fits right in to that genre. The early 20th century does not get enough love in strategy games or sims, and the logistics and supply chains in this game feel very nice and orderly. It is easy to overextend yourself, but if you stay focused, keep your eyes on your numbers and think long-term, it's actually exceedingly easy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Relatively speaking, this game is a mish mash clone of many different games, even different genres. But it does work pretty well and plays unlike most of building/management games. It 100% requires some getting used to but once you grasp it it is darn rewarding punching the world into submission
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After nearly 100 hours with the game, I can say that Kaiserpunk is a very ambitious strategy title with a lot of depth, but also one that struggles with clarity—especially when it comes to warfare mechanics. Building up a stable city, balancing production chains, and watching your population grow feels rewarding and thoughtfully designed. The game clearly has strong ideas and a unique…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In it's current state, this game is incredibly confusing. If you want a colony/city builder there are plenty of finer examples out there which won't drive you crazy trying to understand what on earth is going on. The game lets you place things without really knowing what you're placing and it's impact or its need, I have no idea what the costs of things mean or why I need to build certain things, most things seem to be free, there is no build time or any comprehension of time. Then there is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a great city builder brings nothing new and there are so many that are much better. The saving grace is the WWI era is relatively novel. The diplomacy, is basically nonexistent you choose your allies by choosing your civic policies when you upgrade your town center. Left or right by one choice and the other side hates you and will soon declare war with you even if they are on the other side of the world eventually causing war fatigue regardless of whether fight a battle or even mobilize…

Built my town and quickly assembled two smaller armies to keep my home territory protected. I restrained from any military campaign until I had overwhelming force and another in reserve. Is a matter in fact, I believe no one will be hostile at you unless you start the war. Or it maybe depends on world region you start in? Whatever the case, so far I had greater…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It doesn't run smoothly with my RTX 3080. And it doesn't look that good to justify it. First two tutorial missions were fine but then the frame rate dropped below 30 for the last tutorial. If that's how the performance is going to be in the mid- to late-game, that's unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kaiserpunk is a city building game with a focus on strategic warfare. The city building aspect is fine, I've played a lot of them and what Kaiserpunk does in its implementation is fairly well done, with citizen tiers and needs you'll need to balance well what and where you'll produce the resources and keep an eye out for the well being of your citizens. Unfortunately the world-conquering part is really bad. You can only manage a small number of different units on the world map and creating…

The tutorial is the worst tutorial in the history of gaming complicated by the fact they don't tell you the controls and using them is the jankiest control scheme ever! At first I expected a pretty standard city-builder, but after a few hours I realized there's a lot more going on.
