What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 99 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (150 of 247 positive).
Players find the game challenging and often frustrating, with a steep learning curve. [1][2][3] Some praise its unique class management and narrative, while others criticize its lack of depth. [4][5][6] The game is seen as having a beautiful art style and humorous dialogue, but suffers from balance and content issues. [7][8][9]

I was initially quite enthusiastic about this game. It looks beautiful, runs well (even on Mac OS) and if you actually read the dialog you can tell there is a great sense of humor behind it ("The whole town was completely destroyed.. quick, we must repair the palace!"). I really wanted to like this game for the art-style alone. Unfortunately there are too many things that in my opinion are not quite ready for …

If you are expecting an economic class struggle simulation, this game is not for you. There is a lot that Kapital: Sparks of Revolution has going for it. The art style is by far the best thing about the game. I also genuinely enjoyed planning the layout of my newly rebuilt city. While the city building aspect is a lot of fun, it loses its novelty after the first few hours. It took me about four hours to figure out …

Having played a great many newer city builder sims that look to the past, including the excellent Anno 1800 and Surviving Mars, I have to say that while I initially found Kapital: SoR a bit lacking, I ended up spending 18 hours of challenge and several chuckles at its poignant humour. It feels more like a challenging tabletop with a very competent narrator, which will keep you going for 3-4 campaigns that will take …

Keeping everyone happy isn't an option in this game! In this society simulation, peasants carry the burden of protection, agriculture, and public services. Borgovasie controls the flow of money, business, trades, means of transportation, law enforcement, and the stock market. Nobility stands above all, demonstrating total monopoly over education, healthcare, and governing. The hand-picked policies and the ratio of …

Challenging management sim with some significant balance considerations. This game isn't for filthy casuals, this game is for those who want to be put to the test. In fact, the devs even changed the names on the difficulty levels from Easy, Normal, Hard to Normal, Hard, Very Hard because people were complaining. That doesn't mean the game isn't good, just that you have to have some skill at these types of games to …
Summarised from 34 of the 125 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
63% of the 99 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Kapital: Sparks of Revolution. The complaint that keeps coming up: balancing issues and frustrating difficulty spikes. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

No we're not, no you don't, pls read Das Kapital.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game leaves a lot to be desired. You cannot, for example, rest all of your political laurels on supporting the proletariat because certain professions require the nobility & bourgeoisie, despite the working class being perfectly qualified to dispense pharmaceuticals and teach math themselves.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To me its too less. The game has one major problem besides the lacking content: Its a lesser version of Anno 1800 or Frostpunk. Both games go more complex and provide more depth and replayability. Frostpunk has the same balancing act of your actions, the resources you have and what people want until they get mad at you. Anno 1800 has the similar orientation of harvesting resources and balancing population classes. Both games are far better, far more expansive and have far more content. Which…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The new Zelda game is gonna be $100. Better get cracking on Das Kapital.
neutral · AI labelView post →I was excited by the idea of a class struggle-focused management sim. Down with the bourgeoisie, right? This is half-baked at the moment. Not enough of anything, too much downtime waiting for things to happen. Excellent and genuinely funny narration/dialogue. The sparks of a good game are there, but it needs time to fully cook.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(applies to game v1.0.3, May2022) I don't usually post reviews, but will make an exception in that case. On the graphics: - not 3D but well drawn by a professional artist On the game engine: - almost complete - lack of information (I have no idea why people are starving when there is bread everywhere and restaurants are half empty, no idea why people are falling sick when there are pharmacies everywhere) - crematorium seems to not be working (need to cremate nobles and workers separately,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my favorite genre of increasingly deep-fried meme is Leftist Final Fantasy Tactics, where originally it was a plausible dialogue edit exploiting the gaps in your memory of the game to imply prescient leftist critique, and now it’s just like… a bespoke NPC recommending Das Kapital to Ramza.
neutral · AI labelView post →What's weird is that the trailer makes the game look like some sort of city building strategy game that involves politics and intrigue; but the game I ended up playing was a generic farmville clicker game with stupid spoiled rich kids complaining while I did all the work. This is what happens when indie devs pretend their dookie don't stink and try to pass off a mobile game as a PC game, you get sub par generic drek like this. This is not the game that is promised by the store page. The game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Went broke, will try again. It feels a bit static, but the game looks nice. As for the difficulty: Be prepared to get frustrated. I didn't get that people don't eat the grain but that it has to be prepared by a factory. Didn't have enough wood to build said factory, so I waited. When the food factory was finished, people started dying of hunger because I was a but too late. As soon as I thought I had the system set up, I saw that my finances were deeply red and the food factory ceased…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays and feels like a mobile game more than a PC game... The animations.. the graphics.. it's all very average. Construction is limiting and ultimately not particularly interesting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In its current state, there is little to do but wait for new buildings to appear. Mechanisms that unlock social unrest seem to be placeholders at best, the problem is that there is little to do in the game. Even the basic ability to build an aesthetic city which is important to many who like city building games is at best lacking. There is no variety for buildings every building looks exactly the same and does same thing. There is no statistics to support player agency, migration cannot be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game conceptually, but as others have said, it's just not particularly fun. The bickering of your advisors and the dialogue in general are brilliant, but the game itself is just... messy. It's a neverending stream of your resources being stolen, trains and production facilities breaking down, and people rioting and burning down the houses of other classes. And the worse off things are, the more often these things happen. No more grain shipments due to a story event that got sprung…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great idea for a game but it feels kind of repetitive. Still lacks the city-building dynamic of other games such as Tropico or Frostpunk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think everyone who wants to enact Communism should be forced to play this game for the same reason that anyone who likes Capitalism should have to understand Das Kapital. You have to understand something's weaknesses to work around those weaknesses. Communist Keynesianism basically.
neutral · AI labelView post →Although this game has a lot of potential, it could be more enjoyable. The game lacks a forward momentum which makes it slightly dull. The graphics are nostalgic but nothing special. Overall if you want to entertain yourself for a couple of hours, this game will do that. But as far as replayability, it is lacking.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is still an early release even though technically it is past the 1.0 release version. That means there are still a few bugs that need to be worked out, although from my experience there tend to be ways to work around the bugs and still mostly enjoy the full experience of the game. For the money I paid for this game, it seems to be worth the money overall and is a pretty good time for me where I started playing this game and literally lost track of the time. This is a classic city…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. Buy game 2. Learn what to do from two brats complaining all the time 3. Run out of wood and gold 4. You go to use the bathroom IRL and forget to pause the game. 5. The Palace is on fire since you hade the need to use the silly bathroom 6. Restart 7. Respond to all riots with deadly force (SHOOT TO KILL) 8. Too many bodies, soooo little space 9. Your people get more angry and sick at the same time. 10. The Palace is on fire 10/10 Best game i ever played
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First impressions, because this game needs more reviews: So far, this is absolutely great. Games like Anno were, to me, always lacking in the narrative department and Kapital: Sparks of Revolution fixes that without relying too much on dialogue boxes. Games like Frostpunk have already proven how city-building sims can result in fascinating stories about struggling societies that emerge through gameplay in a natural way. The stakes are definitely high (I ran into my first financial crisis after…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tedious and boring strategy game with outdated graphics and no tutorial at all. Was hoping for more, but alas, it feels like an Early Access product stripped of features and options to be actually enjoyable and fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Neofeud explored the depths that make up our capitalist reality and I found the game to be a multi-dimensional representation of Marx's Das Kapital." --Steam reviewer #indiegame #indiedev #retrogame #Steam
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is really cool, the class management aspect is, in my opinion, an awesome differential. Saying that, there are a couple of things I would really like to see incorporated in it in the futere, if any patchs are to be lauched: I would like to continue playing with the town after the revolution (would love to play in the people's goverment where we have to convince burgoasy and nobles to become workers and train workers to perform their jobs), another thing is I would like it if there was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They're supposed to be beholden to their constituency. Allegiance to their campaign contributors and to schemes to enrich them personally is literally corruption. Granted privileging property owners over the working class is baked into the Constitution of the United States, but we've had multiple reckonings during which we collectively reaffirmed we want our society to be a pluralistic liberal democracy. And the capitalists curse and swear vengeance every time. (And, as Marx predicted in _Das…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there's trees all over the map, why do i have to pay gold to produce lumber?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game tries to be a 2d tropico/caesar clone and some things it gets right. People walk around and appear to have an identity and produce supply bottlenecks at certain buildings which is good to see, but the game has some serious bugs and the UI/dialogue is heavily flawed. The huge bottleneck of the train which breaks down every few minutes is extremely frustrating. You are allowed to make factories/industry but must import all grain, personally experienced 2 game breaking bugs where train…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pointless, everything you do you always upset everyone no matter what you try to do, and they'll eat and drink to the point of bursting their bellies, not to mention there's people willing to just steal grain, no really just steal every grain because why not. Don't buy this, the devs just abandoned it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't bother with getting this game. its easy to figure out the ratio of buildings to the different classes of people you have in you're city. once you figure it out the game is boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very bare-bones, not enough resources, not enough building space and constant rioting in the late game. Not an enjoyable city building experience and no replayability.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is still very unfinished. I experienced several bugs on my first play through. I had to quit because i was unable to continue do to the bugs. I think it could be good but it needs work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found this game to a lot of fun with many challenges. It is a lot more in depth than you might think. I was trying my first play through and had so many updates to do but ran of grain lol Going to try it again for a better result!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not an Anno1800 but quite nice and pretty good for a rather casual game. Anyway waiting for Vic3. Ah, these are not Paradox... Waiting for Vic3 anyway!!!111
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey guys, Played for about half an hour and my thoughts are below, check the video link below. So far it strikes me as a chilled city builder with almost a tabletop vibe going on and I get a sence the devs have but a lot of heart into this game and it shows. I like the graphics and the UI is pretty easy to understand and follow without too many issues or problems. I haven't seen any bugs yet in my short playtime. One annoyance I have and I think it would stop you playing the campaign again…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Need this game to pop-off so Train Station Kapital can exist where I get to be evil building rail through Marietta without voter approval.
neutral · AI labelView post →Will not allow me to rebind keys, which is completely unacceptable for a modern game. This is a standard feature nowadays and has been for a long time, as well as an accessibility issue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting game from a time period seldom included in games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kapital isn't a bad game, but neither a good one. It offers a fair amount of buildings and mechanics, but nothing new or particularly interesting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got hooked by the theme and bought it. After playing it for a little time, I'm not getting in.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice Building game. It will keep you busy with many things such as daily events, requirements and some action especially when you advance technology. To be honest when I saw this game I wa thinking it's boring game with basic visual but when I play it I can't stopped playing for 6 Hr !!. I write this review now because I was surprised.. Sure I will continue playing ASAP. Looking forward for more content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but... -The game map could be bigger -Housing could be built to house a larger number of people -It would be handy to buy wheat for food ect for when your train is to small to make enough food, beer... -Gets buggy late game my computer is a high spec computer -Could have a campaign to test players ability would rate this game higher but these points have really ruined this game for me 3.5 out of 5 fair review in my view
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand why people are hating. This is a great game. Anno 1800 may be a more expansive version of this, but I think Kapital focuses in on an area that anno doesn't: the impact your decisions have on the people. I really appreciated the moments where the different classes weighed in on my actions. Really enjoying this so far!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like a nice game but no ultra wide monitor support for crying out loud it's 2022! Edit: Thanks dear dev, that shows you care about gamers and your game, review changed to positive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is hard AF, situations slip out of your fingers before you even know how to react, leading to spiraling downward economic catastrophes one after the other. Premise is interesting, still recommended. Hopefully devs show mercy to the player by not keeping the game so merciless.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was okay.. I didn't really feel it though and it felt like I was never really winning
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been on my wishlist since it came across my radar. It reminds of the game Frostpunk, but in Kapital you have greater number of resources you have balance than in Frostpunk. I have not played much of it, I love the game. Coming from Frostpunk, a rebellion does not equal game over, you can survive a rebellion, if the palace/city hall survives. But keeping in mind the message than opens with the game, rebellion is inevitable one of the three classes is going to be unhappy and will rebel.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like an old timey city builder. If you have an itch for those types of game, this might be your thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nicely challenging. Reminds more of RTS games than cozy city builder. Need to focus improve production and invent traits in hurry to keep palace standing. Riots feels bit static with locked events. Would be cool to have some more dynamic commanding system for police. Else great game and much potential to grow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm definitely also creating Marx in my game and letting him end all his sentences in Das Kapital
neutral · AI labelView post →Yea it’s so funny cause every time it’ll get people going “wow this game is way more woke than I remembered” so now everyone’s just remembering a fake adaptation of Das Kapital
