What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 187 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,815 of 2,084 positive).
Players praise the game's unsettling atmosphere and lack of cheap jump scares. [1][2][3] Some find the gameplay repetitive and reliant on random chance. [2][4][5] A few reviewers consider it a unique experience that is more art than game. [6][7][8]

This game is very similar to seeing you have only 15 minutes left to be at work/school, but somehow it's the longest 15 minutes you've spent all day. Once you learn what you need to do in the game, it just becomes very tedious. The game starts without much direction and you eventually learn how things work and what you need to do(that's the fun part). There's not a lot of skill needed to get through the levels and …

Really creepy without relying on jumpscares, which is nice for a horror game. Very unsettling atmosphere. Lovely 2D graphics. Deep story.

This game does a fantastic job of making me feel unsettled. I love all of the subtle things that Ice Pick Lodge added to help induce this effect - the shaking of the Lodger's hand as he's holding his lantern, the flickering lights, and the faint creaks and thumps as you walk through the house that make you remember that you are not alone really bring the game together. The gameplay is a bit repetitive, and a tad too …

I highly, HIGHLY recommend this game. Not as a 'game', but an experience. Knock-Knock is unique to me in that it doesn't use jumpscares, but rather atmosphere. I will warn, the gameplay is incredibly repetitive and can be very frustrating if you don't understand what to do. For that, I recommend looking up tutorials or others playing the game only after you've played it yourself. If you're skeptical of the gameplay …

Knock-knock is one of those rare games that gets under your skin in a way that's genuinely hard to articulate — it's less a horror game and more an interactive state of agitation, the kind of skin-crawling unease that mirrors actual insomnia rather than cheap jump scares. The deliberately opaque mechanics and unexplained rules are a feature, not a bug; figuring out how the Lodger's world operates is half the …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This "game" has been growing on me and following me ever since I've found it for the first time in 2013, I've played it a lot on a pirated version as I was unable to buy anything due to young age at the time and it just kept me captivated since. It feels indescribable due to the nature it was made, I believe everyone would have their own view and opinion on this or small groups would share one opinion together on it. I still do wonder how did the cryptic e-mail look like in its entirety, as…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very disappointing game from a great developer who made two of my ever favorite games that were The Void and Pathologic. Knock-Knock isn't bad, but isn't good either. It cannot hold interest as there isn't any interesting story, addictive gameplay or fascinating characters. Atmosphere is okay, but other than that it feels mediocre and too repetitive to enjoy. Even Cargo! from this dev was way more fun.

For every gem like Until Dawn, there's a bunch that lean too heavily on jump scares and clichés, making them more of a chore than a thrill. But Knock Knock by Ice-Pick Lodge takes a refreshingly different approach. It doesn't scream in your face; it whispers in your ear. It does so quite literally too, you play as a sleep deprived individual who hears voices. The game's horror relying on…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay of this game is kind of tricky - you have to either read a guide or (recommended option) discover it on your own. When it comes to the climate in the game - it's just perfect. Certainly recommended to "play this in a dark place, alone". The story and the diary pages you find can be metaphorically compared to a person with various mental illnesses and/or social issues. There are just so many alegories that anyone with enough self-awareness will be able to relate to. They are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My absolute favorite horror game of all time. In one sense it is confounding and bewildering, and in another sense it feels as natural (and fun) as a game of hide and seek. It is defined by your psychological and emotional experience of playing it, and as high-flown as that might sound, it is still scary as hell. Have literally screamed while playing it; I've beaten it several times and it still scares the living hell out of me. BIG recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have never seen Knock Knock, it is a great remake of Death Game -- and it stars Keanu Reeves in an uncharacteristic role for him. #TheLastDriveIn #MutantFam
positive · AI labelView post →Knock-knock is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a 3D rendered (with some 2D cartoony presentation) side-view classic adventure game with a somewhat creepy esoteric plotline. Control a somewhat frayed looking unstable cartoon guy around dark environments puzzling out the creepy things that knock in the dark. The developers did well establishing the tone for the game, and while the graphics…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surreal, rough around the edges experience. In the middle of forest lives a lodger alone in his hut. Each night he’s awaken by banging on the front door and the conviction that something wants to get inside to harm him. The constant lack of sleep starts driving him insane, but he can’t rest peacefully until he makes sure everything’s fine. The story doesn’t reveal much about the main character or his backstory. Although at the start of every night you can pick a new note that likely comes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Knock-Knock is a 2d slogfest where you play as an insomniac limping along from one room to the next fixing lights and WHAT IS THAT?! AHHH!!! TO THE STAIRS! THE STAAAAIRS! Oh, and there are trees. Haven't beaten it, but played a solid 3 hours before losing interest (got near the end but ran out of patience, might pick up later). Difficulty is medium. Used a game remote. This game is played best in the dark. Gameplay Part 1 - There are a total of two buttons and the d pad. One button…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was a game that I won from a friend but I enjoyed the story so much, it messed with your head a bit and forced you to think and find the diary just so you would know more. I had to play it through three times to beat it, but there are multiple endings! I will come back to it to try and get the good ending but Its something I would recommend to others
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game because I really liked the graphics. But after I've played it through completely, I have to say: The graphics are the best part. The game is very easy to understand: walk around rooms and turn on the lights. THAT'S IT. Sometimes you have to avoid a ghost and that's it. In between there are controversial comments by the protagonist, which should sound profound, but they are just nonsense. I never wanted to quit a game so often. What a waste of money and time.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is one of the worst horror games I've played in my life, it is obtuse, repetitive, and nothing happens, the dread comes from that stupid clock in the corner of the screen. The gameplay revolves around finding clocks, opening doors, turning the lights on, and avoiding ghosts that can randomly spawn right over you, the game feels like a security job where you walk around doing absolutely nothing. The game is a trauma dump, all of the "supernatural" events happen inside the character's…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great. I have fond memories of the game despite it being a little cryptic I ended up getting multiple different endings. Although the website makes things a little odd/confusing I found the monster illustrations there to be spookier than the ones that ended up in the game. And the addition story of "how the game came to the developers" is lame more than freaky lol. But overall, this game is great with headphones in a dark place the sound design is spooky .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid immersive game with plenty of room for reflection and personal thought. I'm still surprised that it got more hype than Pathologic. But this is a good project by Ice-Peak Lodge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first outing with Knock-knock was on PS4 quite a while back. My purchasing it on Steam was more of a tiny step on the road to converting my console collection to a more, lets say, superior platform. So, ignore the 1 Hour playtime, because I've played the game probably more like 10 hours, the 1 hour not included. I saw a bunch of things in this game that I really can't explain, nor do I feel the developers intended for you to do so. It's all so weird and otherworldly that it makes me wonder…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a peculiar experience. Starting off, it has a fairly unique art style with some nice sound design. It had a story, although it was very vague and certainly tough to understand. The gameplay was more or less, what I'd call management, as you have to manage to keep the breaches at bay with the lights, which was fine. I think this is more of an atmospheric horror experience more than anything, playing in the dark feeling the vibe of the game, it's atmosphere, maybe piecing the together…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me, Knock-Knock was the most unusual game I have ever played. The sense of it - is simple and complex at the same time: you have to survive until dawn, by moving around the house for several nights. The main difficulty are the guests, from which we need to run or hide. In case of a collision with them, we will lose the scale of mind, which will lead us to loss. The game, of course, is not for everyone, but that makes it special, so I surely recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting game. I like how you learn some of the rules throught gameplay. The game surely doesen't hold your hand, but it what makes it more interesting.

neutral · AI labelView post →I love how esoteric this game was but the ending frustrated me. Without spoiling too much you have a sanity meter and if you don't preserve it and get to the very end of game you get a game over and will have to replay the roughly 3 hours to get an ending. Personally not a fan of that but I can still recognize a good game when I see it.

Well, in this game, you ARE getting different results, but you might go insane anyway. I did like the art style, sound design and the core gameplay idea about making it through the night inside an ever changing house. My one big issue and reason for the thumbs down is the randomness. Little if any is explained about the mechanics, which doesn't have to be a bad thing; but to make everything so obscure and then…
