I'm a big castlevania fan but i still can't recommend this game ✔️Really nice pixel art even though it's pretty much a castlevania copy tbh ✔️Movement feels pretty clunky at first but the floating mechanic is pretty fun once you get the hang of it ❌I hate comparing playtime/price but 30$ for a 2h game feels pretty bad tbh ❌Bosses are absolutely unbalance, best chance I had was spamming special attacks while damage …

Scarlet Symphony is a historical game in the context of Touhou Project, being a castlevania knockoff that really helped kick off the whole Touhou fan game thing back in the early 2000s. So in that sense, this game being re-released is interesting. Unfortunately, time has not been kind. This game is a linear style 2D castlevania, not a metroidvania like the excellent Touhou Lunar Nights. When I say "castlevania" i …

A solid Castlevania game that doesn't have the a truly unique mechanic like the time manipulation of Luna Nights to make it amazing, but the sharp visuals and the voice acting gives it enough flair that it's a definite recommend to any fan of the genre and a must have if you're in the intersection of Metrovania and Touhou fandom.

The joy of orchestrating a boss This is a remaster of one of the most beloved Touhou doujin/fan games that was originally released in 2009 (PC only). However, the term 'fan game' is often misleading in the case of Touhou. 1. Most of them are not freeware (what this term might suggest). 2. Many of these so called 'fan games' have a higher production value than the original Touhou games made by ZUN. You can go even …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I fondly remember this game from back in the day when Touhou was at its peak with tons of memes, fangames and porn. In all honesty though, this game ain't that deep in comparison to most indie games nowadays, and the controls are a little floaty (you can fly so I guess it was somewhat intended?) and so far it doesn't look like it has more content in comparison to the original version, but it is really cheap and also really fun for what it is. Besides, it helps me quench my thirst for more…

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to like this game. However the controls make this game feel so sluggish to play. Bosses and enemies are basically designed to be bullet hells while you're left with the task of maneuvering around everything. That would be fine if your movement and attacks didn't move at half the speed of everything else. Your hitbox is beyond giant and for some reason enemies can see you from half a screen away. While I understand that this is an old game, there definitely feels a lack of polish in the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big fan of the original game and I must say that this is very good remaster. After so many years 晩杯あきら art style looks amazing. Check his pixiv if you want more of his art. I finished normal mode on normal difficulty and extra stage without any problems. I think I had some problems with sfx sounds but I could not tell what that was. Added voices are great, very pleasant to listen. Although Reimu is whining too much when you are constantly losing :). In the original game you only had Marisa…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really don't recommend this game. First off, as others have said, it's not a Metroidvania. They've taken level bits and pieces of level designs from Castlevania games and strung them together so it looks like a Metroidvania, but it's completely linear. The gameplay is very floaty and imprecise, it's incredibly short (<1 hour to complete), they literally take some enemy sprites from Symphony of the Night, and the plot is basically non-existent. I'm not really into anime that much, so maybe…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are expecting a metroidvania experience don't get this. If you're a touhou fan, don't get this. If you're a castlevania fan, don't get this. Great art Good Music Nice voice acting -Horrible gameplay- Basically an arcade like gameplay, no progression/power ups/collectibles besides getting to the next level, the level design is poor and the controls are bad, specially mid air controls. There's more to this last part, but i'll leave it in "They tried to do a weird bullet hell optional way…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game isn't worth its price. As remaster, it totally sucks: just improved graphics and added some sounds, music and other small details. I remember, at one time, original game was free, and for such bad remaster, they set such a huge price... Game itself is also not so good, even for its genre: - Too short (you need about 1 hour to full complete the game on normal); - Terrible controls; - Problems with hitboxes; - No customization/selection of your character; - Only 1 playable character; -…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awful, it plays like a cheap side scrolling hentai game. There is no englice voice acting, the combat is barely responsive, the first enemies you fight are different types of birds, you start the game being able to fly around shooting some ugly ray. The game is garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dropped the game 2 years ago, forced myself to play from start and finish it this afternoon which took ~2h. It would be fine as a curiosity for less than 5euros, but not at 30! Aside from the price, the game is pretty bad due to a simple reason: classic castlevania controls do not blend with micro-spacing You have 7 stages with a boss at the end, then the 8th stage being bosses only. Stages themselves are way too easy with repetitive screens (and some of them are entirely skippable due to a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic from my childhood, a hidden gem that I found a long time ago, unfortunately I never had the option to buy it in the country that I am in until today that I have the possibility to buy it and play it as it should, highly recommended. Regarding the port, it lacks graphic options and the controls, I think it can be refined a bit. I love this game and will wait for Koumajou Densetsu II: Stranger's Requiem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing the touhou castlevania game Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony! I was given then JP collector's edition so we'll take a look inside that, too! voxandra.gay
positive · AI labelView post →I've heard Scarlet Symphony as a pretty well regarded classic that didn't show its age well, and to only get it when on sale, and quite regretfully, the fact it was gifted to me from a friend is almost a joke. I REALLY like Touhou (i just dont like that nearly every fan game is EoSD and nothing else). And I really enjoy Metroidvanias (this almost looks to imitate the Castlevania style and hell, it damn has the word Symphony in the title!) This game is a total let-down. Instead of being…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend this game with a 30 dollar price tag. About an hour in to complete 5 stages I realized this was going to be a game I would need to play over and over again to justify the price and it just isn't fun enough to do that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I really wanted to like this game. It looks nice, it's clearly a parody of Castlevania with a Touhou theme, and on video it feels like it should be a good experience. But it's comically bad. As I said, the visuals are very nice, although there's some sort of blurry filter applied on everything, making this both pixel arts and smudgy. While playing it's not too distracting, but it's a weird choice nonetheless. The gameplay loop is very simple: this plays more like an arcade game than…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After almost 10 years since I first played this game, I still cannot beat Suika BTW this game is an old school Castlevania, not a Metroidvania
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly not a Metroidvania style game like i had hoped but a more Old School Castlevania-esque one. And while that isnt necessarily a bad thing, i think the level design is way more flat and uninteresting compared to old school Castlevania. Characterart is nice tho a bit too edgy for some characters (Reimu just looks like she wants to murder everyone) and its a shame that they didnt bother properlly making them emote. It just looks off having these always serious looking Artpieces for what is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A remaster without any QoL improvements, bringing back an unnerving and daunting old-school experience. It remains a clunky mess; the controls and the relative size of the player compared to the bullets are the worst cons, almost nauseating. Apart from the copy-paste from Symphony of the Night and the characters' artwork, it has nothing going, literally a fan project that should have been free (and was). The price is just the cherry on the pile of crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Remaster" is a huge stretch. They slapped a widescreen ratio on this 2000's game along with a 30$ price tag and called it a day. Having not played the original, the "metroidvania" tag baited me hard, because it certainly ain't one. Refunded after about 5 minutes as I couldn't forgive the price for the pretty terrible feeling gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refunded* Not worth the $30 but should be worth $10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game with a good soundtrack and entertaining mechanics, but not worth the high price it has.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They really just re-released an ancient indie game. Gameplay is meh, really just the basic castlevania formula with flight, and a ranged attack with ammo, nothing special. bosses are annoying you can barely dodge the bullets as your hurt-box is massive, and your slide gives no invincibility so instead of weaving through the bullets which, in a good metroidvania type game (ie: luna nights) would be really fun, but your hurt-box is just too fat and you don't really have the tools to deal with it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth 30 bucks, got through like five stages and my refund time wasn't even up yet
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Action platformer + levitating + challenging = Classic Castlevania style with Touhou characters. Slide and dodge bullet hell bosses. Switch up partners to assist. Japanese voiced. Fly, fly away. Charming art and music. [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/] Follow our curator for similar games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite Touhou fangames finally made it into Steam! I've gone through most of the achievements already! This game has an amazing soundtrack, and it feels great to play it without all the hassle of older games on modern PCs. There are some minor issues I hope get fixed, like REALLY LOUD SFX when multiple instances happen at once, the "platinum" achievement counter being bugged (I have 36 done, but it says I have 38) and the lack of options for the sprite filtering (because the filter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wish I studied up more before buying this game. This game turned out to be probably my biggest let down for something I been really wanting to get. I was really hyped for this game when I first saw it was coming out. A Castlevania "Symphony of the Night" clone with a Touhou skin on it, I was ecstatic! When it released I really didn't want to pay $30 for it so I waited till it went on sale. I finally acquired it for $15 through other means and even then I feel I way over payed. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing art and top notch music combine to create an unmatched aesthetic even in the competitive realm of 2hu fanworks. Unfortunately the nicest thing you can say about the gameplay is that it makes Luna Nights look good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like the game... but it is not fun to play, it looks nice, but that is it... it is a game not a painting it has to be fun to play. I had to request a refund, if it was cheaper, i would have kept it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really hope we'll see the sequel on steam one day... The game is pretty much a classic castlevania in the Touhou setting. The controls are a bit floaty, for sure, since it's a remaster of an old game, but the art and soundtrack are really good even by today's standards. Although, the price could be a bit lower.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forgot this is from the era of fan games where actual gameplay didn't matter so long as it looked nice. Slapping touhou spellcards over simon belmont's slow walk cycle (and hitbox) and only adding a slow hover for mobility does not make this game at all fun to play when it starts throwing out screens full of projectiles that deal half your health in damage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original 2huvania. Don't go in expecting Symphony of the Night, but it's a great game none the less. The second game is even better so hopefully it comes to Steam soon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't get it. This game looks like a reskin/copy of first Castlevania games. Back in the old days, this would've been a free game found on some fan site. The big thing about these games are bullet hell bosses that are found at the end of boring action/platforming sections. Because you can fly at will, these stages feel pointless and cheap way of extending a game's length. It isn't fun to play and the price tag is ridiculous. Guess you can stick "Touhou" in there and the fanboys will just eat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →crashout over Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony gets a 7.5 has a number of core game design flaws that CAN put me in a real bad mood but i still respect what it does enough to come out the other side fulfilled NOT worth the 30-dollar asking price tho
neutral · AI labelView post →Review Bahasa Indonesia di: https://youtu.be/mNBLC1SOIPk (un)Surprisingly Touhou and Castlevania makes a good mix of game. This one will quench your thirst for classic Castlevania games. Also making you--Touhou fans--delighted. Amazing spriteworks and voiceovers, with tough bossfight and somewhat acceptable level design, this game is worth your time playing. Buy it on sale since I think for now, it's priced too much for what it offers :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love how the game throws the hardest boss at you first.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game! Short but sweet and quite a challenge for someone with very little castlevania experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Touhouvania at its finest, i don't know why the review are mixed, OK i get it, its hard, yes, but its short, that's how Touhou and even Castlevania went, short but hard as hell, and this mixes them well, i managed to beat the game and got up to the Bonus Stage final boss, and SHEESH she is difficult, Remilia was hard on Phase 3, but her sister puts her to ABSOLUTE SHAME, and you would never guess the reason why she fights you, its hilarious and kinda sad for her, this is coming from someone…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game! just a word to the wise this is NOT a metroidvania, this is more akin to classicvanias, feels a lot like rondo of blood, so if you're a touhou and castlevania nerd like me, this is the perfect game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It get's ridiculously harder after Alice.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main claim to fame of Koumajou Remilia aka "Touhouvania", long before it was even thought that it would get on Steam (the original version is from 2009), are the superb character designs: "What if Ayami Kojima designed the Touhou cast?" So many years later, those alternate designs of Reimu, Marisa & co. still rock. Funnily enough, before Frontier Aja themselves gave a translation through a patch back then, it was thought to be possibly darker than the source material but once confronted…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's funny to think about how a 3rd Koumajou Remilia game would just bring back the Scarlet Devil Castle again bc the villains were bored as hell no "Castlevania is a creature of Chaos", no centennial weakening-of-God to allow for Dracula's resurrection; Remilia & the new villain were just bored af

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge Touhou and Castlevania (Metroidvania + Classic) fan, this game was a complete no-brainer for me. My first playthrough took around 8 hours on Normal difficulty, nice and challenging difficulty spike overall. Took me another 17 hours to complete everything else on Hard difficulty (including Extra Stage) plus all achievements. At first the controls appear kinda clunky, but if you put more time and sweat into the whole thing, it gets really rewarding (i also tried the game for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a huge fan of Castlevania, especially the classic ones, and this game feels a lot like playing Rondo of Blood, at least in the first half (more on that later). The whip is extremely satisfying to use, there are tons of enemy references, through design or behavior, and there's even a song that starts exactly like the one in the first stage of Rondo. It was the closest I've felt to playing a new classicvania in recent times, since the whip is so good to use and it's very satisfying to kill…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Deluxe Edition was purchased to support the developer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty short even for a retro Castlevania inspired game. The Touhou elements don't fit all the time in the game. You can skip over some of the level areas by just flying above it if you feel lazy. Bosses are super spammy and are basically Touhou fights where the rest of the game is just a slightly clunky Castlevania. Some rooms felt too small where others were too big the overall design was too inconsistent.

Look I don't wanna be negative but this game isn't that amazing. i know how castlevania games go but this was kind of whatever - The controls are too floaty making you lock between flying when you just want to jump multiple times - Buncha stuff coming at you. That said, this was also much more challenging and had a lot more QOL features added to it. Love how they wrote Sakuya Izayoi tbh. May be my favorite version of her ever.
negative · AI labelView post →I bought this game not knowing it was a Touhou game, so the bullet hell aspects (Even if they're not as bad as they really are) made this game way harder for me than it needed to be. That being said, everything else about it is fine. The fighting and movement is good, if the controls are kinda funky, the level design is basic but passable, but the music kicks ass. On sale, it'd say it's worth it. But if you don't like Bullet Hells or are expecting a modern Castlevania game, don't get…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-- Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony -- Decent Castlevania style game we got here. Mixing bullet hell and platforming ends up kinda awkward, since your character's pretty large and some attacks can be tough to avoid. Still mostly fun though, and the music rocks.
