I’ve never written a review for a game before, but this one bored me so much that I felt obliged to do it. Let me ask you a question: imagine you’re holding an apple. Half of it is rotten, the other half is sweet. Which side would you eat — the rotten one or the sweet one? Well, this game keeps forcing you to eat the rotten half. What do I mean by that? Let me explain: The game has a long story, but it’s not very …

Lost Eidolons is in that frustrating “almost good” category but ultimately it doesn't work out. The moment-to-moment battle tactics are interesting and a lot of thought and effort has gone into designing the levels and the art. But the game is grindingly slow, from the “optional” battles that aren't optional if you want your characters to be sufficiently leveled, to the protracted cut-scenes, to the seemingly …

As a fan of Fire Emblem and tactical RPGs, Lost Eidolons scratched that itch in a way I didn't expect from a smaller studio — the combat is genuinely engaging, the magic system's terrain interactions are a highlight, and the undo mechanic keeps frustrating moments from turning into full restarts. The characters won me over more than I anticipated, especially with some solid voice acting carrying the weight of scenes …

So, I've clocked about 60 hours into this game and here's what me myself and I think so far: Pros: 1. Medieval theme with knights, wizards, etc. 2. Nice graphics and design. 3. Strategy turn-based game play. 4. Collecting characters and building relationship. Cons: 1. Story is mid, pretty predictable and kinda boring. 2. Script and dialog is all wrong for a medieval period. 3. Highest Difficulty level is unbalanced. 4. You get "EXP" but you're not really leveling up. Enemies will…

Alright, I think I'm overdue for a review, seeing how this game got roasted a lot which made me wary at first. To be fair, I initially shared some of the issues, took me a bit before getting into this game for real... and as perhaps shown by my time played, I am truly glad I did. Let's get into the meat of Lost Eidolons: the negative. But also, I would like to develop how, for a lot of it, my opinion changed over time. Game is great at first but really quickly becomes monotonous because you keep doing the same thing over and over again. After taking over the 6th fort with the same characters doing the same skills against the same enemies you kind of done with it. And then you realize you have less then 25% of the game done and the other 75% is exactly the same. Story is kind of generic so you can't ride that wave, without any twist and turns. Characters don't really have any growth in personality so that's…

6.5/10 So first of all, I have to give them credit for attempting something ambitious on what is clearly an indie budget and in some ways exceeding and surpassing expectations. There's a lot of voice acting, animations, pretty decent graphics for a 3D indie. However, this is my fourth or fifth time trying to get past the opening hours and not succeeding. While the combat may improve in complexity later, it is too bare bones for too long. This game would have really benefited from some kind of…

Turn-based strategy / RPG Lost Eidolons reminded me of Valkyria Chronicles in a sense that I have never ever heard of the game before stumbling over it thanks to a sheer luck. And just like Valkyrias, Lost Eidolons was just what the doctor ordered for a player like myself. RANT ON Chapter 19 is a joke (looking at you guilermo or whatever you name was with your fire homming missile spell), abillity that just one shots anyone on your team with only way to avoid it is to bring one of two specific abillities to lower the magic damage taken/dealt or you just get a dead character. I have played a lot of RPGs and strategy games. This one is just mediocre. It's not bad, but there's nothing exciting about it. Nothing that makes you want to continue playing. The gameplay is passable, I found the black mage who can do more than just attack very fun to use. But other than that there is very little difference between the characters and their usefulness in combat. The game makes us spend a lot of time at camp reading uninteresting small talk dialogue. And despite the…

Ambitious and quirky game. The combat is really strong, with some levels presenting a real challenge on Hard / Maniac level. The story and characters are mildly cheesy, but also kind of endearing. I found myself caring about the characters, even making sub-optimal squad choices because I thought some characters would want to be in the fight. It has its quirks - for example, there's a system whereby some character classes can develop certain skills above the maximum - assassins develop…

I initially tried this game around the time Veil of the Witch came out into early access and didn't really look back. With its full 1.0 release, I decided to go back and check out the Fire Emblem-like Ocean Drive put out. I am currently a little over half-way through, and really enjoy the darker tone on a story of rebellion that doesn't quite get the knife edge level edginess of Redemption Reapers. I found myself investing more in these characters than the doomed squad from that game as well,…

A purely functional videogame that feels underbaked. That's the best i can say about it. Linear mission structure broken up by camp/base sequences where in both very rarely anything interesting happens. The turn based combat for the first 10 hours is pretty bad, 'i hit you, you hit me' basic attacks for a long time, and whether you use the rock paper scissors armor/weapon combos mean relatively little. It may get better, but it feels very barebones and uninteresting to play. The 'back to base'…

I keep playing and dropping this game cause it is decent but ultimately falls flat. Many stage's fail conditions rely on idiot ai allies killing themselves so you kinda have to run ahead of them and ignore the fact this is supposed to be a strategy game. Aforementioned allies would rather attack on their own turn and die to counterattacks than heal or run away from danger. They even give you a healer ally that goes /after/ the fighter ally so the fighter ally will not be healed in time. Then…

Bought the game on sale and dumped a bunch of hours into it. had some cool aspects, armor looked great for the higher tier classes and seeing what units were going to be the target of enemy attack the next turn based on position was helpful for keeping archers and mages out of harm's way. unfortunately i have more complaints than praise for this game. first off, 1/3 of the missions involve running away from the fight before you get swarmed. this ultimately was the source of me "ragequitting"…

So... This is one of those... Very very mixed opinions. The core game is solid. VA is decent, the combat is straightforward and easy to grasp while having depth. I like the class diversity and gearing up characters does feel decent overall. I'd say for the first half of the game, I thought it was barely worse than Fire Emblem, which considering this is obviously heavily inspired by it should be high praise. However, the story is very... This game came very close to being a favourite for me. I spent 24 hours playing it and enjoyed most of this experience. It pains me not to recommend it, but I have to be honest with myself - I can't recommend something I decided to quit halfway (or even 3/4) through. It has potential to be a good game, but it fails short of some important things, especially towards the end. I think I gave this game a fair shake at almost 29 hours. Unfortunately, while I started out enjoying the game well enough, I am dropping it before finishing. As such, it is tough to recommend. The game starts out solid enough - basic ttrpg combat with a few interesting mechanics thrown in, blandish but likeable cast of characters, and a tropey, but not bad, rebellion story. However, the further you go, the more you realize that the game leans into the bland, basic, and tropey while failing to…

while this game has a decent strategy based combat system so far, you have absolutely no control over the story. beyond fighting each battle it is just one cut scene after another, you fight, then cut scene, fight then cut scene. you have no impact on the story what so ever. not even the illusion of choice in the matter.

This game is an interesting one. Very slow burn. As you get further into it, you find yourself more curious about what is going to happen. Gameplay itself is ok. Nothing revolutionary and somewhat plain. The one thing I have to really complement is character development. I found myself really interested in the characters and their separate stories. Great job with that. If you like turn based strategy rpgs like Fire Emblem or Shining Force I would give this one a shot.

Neither a good nor a bad game. The game had a lot of potential from the beginning, but barely anything new gets introduced after the first few battles. So far I have not been shown a skill tree, which would really boost this game's playability if you could build classes and skill trees. But its really repetitive. Fantastical XCOM, how could this suck? Well, you could make it a completely linear series of fights. Or make the plot start to veer into the utterly absurd. We get an interesting introduction to the world in terms of a 'skip forward' RL Stine sort of portent, and the game initially is paced well...until you get to chapter 3 and then find incredible frustration that is base camp. Wander around and talk to everyone. A lot of tedious work is talk to A, then B, than C, then A again to get…

lost eidolons is, at its core, what i affectionately think of as a "b-tier" rpg. in the past, this would've been considered a big release considering the production on display, but in modern times, it inserts itself comfortably in that sort of in between. the game is a strategy rpg that mostly plays by the rulebook - class progression, a story that serves as a way to introduce more maps & characters, character bonds, etc. it also plays by the rulebook relatively well. i guess if i had to…

I wanted to give this one a chance mainly because some reviews compared it to Fire Emblem. I love turn based games and had high hopes someone might have emulated FE. Yea sadly this game is boring. Dialog that goes on and on. When you get to camp, more talking. Run around, more talking. There is just way to much talking, not enough action. You have limited options in game to upgrade, power leveling is not really a thing. You are somewhat stuck with being where the game wants you to be.…

I was put off a bit my the mixed reviews, but its really not a bad game if your expectations are not too high. Its not Fire Emblem by all means, but its a good game if you get it on sale. I got it for £2.99 I think, so for that price its great! Now that Im half way through, I think I would have payed the full price for it. Pros - story is good. Nothing groundbreaking, but engaging enough - Some characters are likeable - Battles are engaging enough, I really liked the terrain manipulation (with…

A soft yes. If you love fire emblem and other SRPGs, this sure is one of them. The buildcraft is lacking, the environments samey, the in-between camp of each chapter a slog, and the characters can be stiff. But I would recommend this game for its ambition. The story managed to surprise me a few times, the worldbuilding exists even if you have to go digging for it, and can be compelling, and I really liked what some of the later missions did for variety. This is a long game, but ultimately it…

Ok game, it's a good fix when you don't have a fire emblem or similar at hand. Felt kind of incomplete though, some broken texts and textures, animation that looped roughly, lack of sfx for significant moments, and I could have used 1-2 additional songs for the oomph factor on some maps and cutscenes. Voice acting was superb all around.

The comparisons to Fire Emblem are inevitable, so by comparison Lost Eidolons is: - Grittier in aesthetic. - Slower-paced in story. - More tactically challenging for the entire duration of the playthrough, which I count as a huge plus. FE often devolves into your units being near-godlike and wading through enemies without difficulty until you reach a boss that finally puts up a fight. This game does not succumb to that. Battles are fraught up to the very last, which I loved. - Marginally poorer…

Despite its shortcomings, I ended up liking Lost Eidolons. It is an indie title that aims for a big-budget epic feel, and while some of its rougher elements stand out, they are more than made up for by a strong story and inventive, sometimes brilliant, gameplay mechanics. As the old saying goes, do not judge a game by its characters’ lifeless, blank stares.

Great game, Just finished the game and I do not finish many games still working on changing that though. I did play this in the past, but came back to it and finished it. I do highly recommend this game, it is a strong tactical battle game with some light rpg to it. Balance is a sorta problem in some battles and the loot system could of been better, but it was a good game from start to finish with some story telling before and after battles. In conclusion I do recommend this game and I may…
