What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 183 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (750 of 793 positive).
Players praise Lumines Remastered as a faithful and addictive rhythm-puzzle game. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note technical issues like refresh rate locking and controller problems. [1][4][5]

Doesn't work with a controller. Any movement just sends the piece all the way to either side. No analog support. WTF. This wasn't always like this. Why do developers keep killing good games with garbage updates?

WARNING! THE GAME SPEED IS LOCKED TO YOUR YOUR REFRESH RATE! make sure you set your refresh rate to 60 before playing or it will move impossibly fast on level 1! now thats out of the way the game is great, its like Tetris only instead of making lines to clear blocks on a vertical screen you make squares and rectangles (4x4 or more) to clear blocks on a horizontal screen. if that sounds like your cup of tea then you …

Lumines Remastered is a modern revival of one of the most distinctive rhythm-puzzle games ever created, bringing the original formula forward with sharper visuals, improved audio, and a polished presentation that highlights why the series gained such a dedicated following. At its core, the game revolves around the deceptively simple act of dropping 2×2 blocks made of two colors onto a grid. The goal is to form …

Gameplay Reasonably high skill ceiling, very satisfying to learn Visuals Tiles pair well with backgrounds, but some have rough contrast, especially during transitions Audio Music and SFX are phenomenal all around, progression of music tracks in the basic mode is pure bliss Content Despite the lack of content from other games besides the original, the game has a perfect amount of skins and avatars for it's price, and …

a very interesting game where playing for an hour means you actually played seven and you didn't notice

positive · AI labelView post →I was doing this with Lumines Remastered, which I've never beaten before, and I got so excited to learn that Lights is in it as the final level (really loved that song in 2005!) that I died instantly and there did not actually get to hear how they mixed it in the game 😔

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks! Apparently I have some two hundred and twenty games on here. Lately I’ve been going through Caravan Sandwitch, Sea of Stars, SNES Chrono Trigger (JP) via Delta, and Lumines Remastered (and I’m always disappointed my hands aren’t fast enough to get to the last skin). I try to keep myself busy when I’m not shooting art.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s so bad that Lumines Remastered came out yesterday on mobile and I was genuinely stunned that it was just the game….. that you pay money for….. and you get that game. End of transaction
negative · AI labelView post →played 45 hours on switch this game is electricity if you sink deep enough to touch the bottom and peep the genius, this game becomes a cornerstone of your life it feels like im falling through the sky in a lovely way, this game plugs in to your head like no other
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can sense the devil strongly in this one. In every single run I can feel as if I am encumbered by the thoughts of what appears to be him. No greater virtual demon has ever been unleashed before my mind, eyes, mind, heart, eyes and soul, It asks for more than we could ever offer; which is where the suffering stems most from. It whispers to you directly; without any intermediary whatsoever. His voice so grotesque and morbid. Amongst those slow, soul-wrenching, wound-salting moments of torment…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →notable fact about Lumines Remastered mobile: it has mid-game saving! this is the first time it's shown up in the series, and technically makes this the definitive version of Remastered
neutral · AI labelView post →It's a fun puzzle game with a decent price when on sale. I have this for my PC and Switch. The newer game is probably better, but this game is fun and a great way to get your feet wet if you're new to the genre. It's also good for short bursts of playtime when you don't have a lot of time to play videogames.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wishing we could get a new Lumines game. I love Remastered and still play it a lot on both Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This week I've been playing [Lumines Remastered](https://store.steampowered.com/app/851670/LUMINES_REMASTERED/) on PC. I dumped so many hours into the original one on PSP. The port is very faithful to the original while also adding some nice updates to make it home on PC. I did have a weird issue where having Vsync enabled made the controls hyper sensitive but turning it off fixed that. I also don't have much time to game these days so it's nice to be able to pick up a quick, low commitment…
positive · AI labelView post →After four months, about 115 hours, I've finally played Lumines to 100% completion, saving two challenges for last; the Black Belt Champion achievement (obtained by beating the entire VS CPU mode without losing once, which I'm estimating took me 20 hours on its own) and the Endless Doors achievement (two rounds of the endless challenge), which I saved as a victory lap after the grueling puzzle missions and the absolutely mind numbing difficulty of the versus mode challenge. Why I did this, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play this on my PSP. I mostly play it to chill and for the music, I'm still very bad after all these years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been playing Lumines Remastered nonstop ever since playing Arise at SGF. I now see Tetris Effect Connected is on the EShop for 20 bucks… I own it on PS5/PSVR do I double dip and grab it on Switch 2?
neutral · AI labelView post →Lumines is a puzzle game, where you have to match same colored squares into a cube like shape to clear them and collect points. It sounds basic, but you get the squares in a 2x2 block which could have different pattern of colors. The game idea is pretty good and quite challenging to master it, you will need quite some time to play this game on a decent level. Surprisingly, even though I'm not good at the game, it's still addictive to play and I found myself retrying a lot to be able to get…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I noticed that Lumines Remastered is in PS+ and I thought, damn, I haven't played that since back in the PSP days. I'll give it one game before I make some breakfast. I forgot that I'd grown quite good at Lumines 20 years ago, that one game is at the 1 hour and 5 minutes mark and still going.
positive · AI labelView post →2 Lumines Arise Ever since Enhance made Tetris Effect and Lumines Remastered was released, the possibility of a brand new Lumines game quietly resided in a corner of my mind. However, I didn’t dare hope too deeply, since the odds of it actually happening seemed miniscule.
positive · AI labelView post →One of my all time favorite video games although I wish they kep they original main menus and music from the PSP version
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Music from Enhance Games' Rez Infinite, Lumines Remastered, Tetris Effect and Humanity are getting released on vinyl as part of a box set celebrating Enhance's 10th anniversary. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a slightly enhanced remake of the original PSP Lumines. All of the same skins (music), modes, and unlockables, but this time there's achievements and leaderboards, which are appreciated. I kind of wish it was an enhanced remake of the first 2 games combined. As it is, will we ever see Lumines 2 Remastered? Almost certainly not, if only because it has a lot of licensed music in it...but for the original songs that are in-house without licensing fees, it would have been nice to see those…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't stress enough how great this game is. Unfortunately, this is another instance where the Playstation version is the definitive way to play. The first time you switch stages in the PC version, there is a sizeable frametime spike. At first I thought this was a typical case of shader compilation stutter, but it appears the shader is not even cached permanently. It happens every time you reboot the game. To have something so distracting happen in a tight puzzler is a shame

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →'I just love the Puzzle Mode (Easy Difficulty) in LUMINES. Who ever came up with it is a genius. It really picks my brain!' Until you've reached Hard Mode and Super Hard Mode. I'm not gonna lie but for the most part of the puzzle I had to look up on youtube to clear the Puzzle Mode. What makes it challenging is the timer on each puzzle which makes it frustrating and there are 100 levels and another 50 levels in Mission Mode which is basically a Tutorial Mode. Also when you pause screen, you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A friend on the other coast of the US once had me try the original Lumines on a PSP emulator via Parsec. It was not the ideal gameplay experience. I picked up Remastered at some point, and streamed my first attempts earlier this year. I am extremely nearsighted, haven't gotten new glasses in too long, and have a large desktop screen (which was to accommodate a one-off two-player gaming session), so I was having a not-ideal gameplay experience, to the point that I forgot there was even a way to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played tetris effect, its pretty good, saw lumines arise announcement in state of play, got interested in it since i enjoyed tetris effect, but i had no clue what lumines actually was, so i bought lumines remastered, realised that its pretty good, then i became addicted to matching squares of the same colour and played for 30 minutes in a single challenge run without even realising, so i guess its doing something right to mess with my sense of time truly the pinnacle of gaming, cant wait for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's like tetris but you stack in squares instead of lines and it sounds cool. pick this up, get to the end of basic challenge, then buy arise when it comes out this fall trust
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a PSP as a kid but never played or heard of this game, only played it because I love Tetris Effect so much and if I had played this growing up and really got into it, it probably would have changed my life. Hard as balls though, I don't know how any human being is supposed to do the missions or especially the puzzles in order to unlock every skin. I also dislike how long of a time commitment doing the basic challenge is, you're sat there completely locked in using at least 80% of your…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally one of my all time favorite games. Lumines is not for everyone but if you haven't ever checked it out it is truly what I like to call Tetris 2.0. I have been playing it since the PSP days and the PC port is wonderful. Cheers to another 1000 hours of this CRACK.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great revisit to the most definitive PSP game. Especially fun on Steam Deck.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm playing through Black Mesa lately! Picked it up on the recent discount and now I'm going through it, gonna do all of HL2 next, time to check out the 20th anniversary update. Also Lumines Remastered just went on sale so you bet I'm gonna be playing the hell out of that
positive · AI labelView post →Odd little discovery when testing GameChat today: it seems that certain games can't be screen shared. If Lumines Remastered is open on your Switch 2, your screen sharing is blocked on GameChat, for example. Unclear what triggers it, working on getting an answer. www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/the-n...
neutral · AI labelView post →I make squares. I make many squares. They get cleared in one nice sweep and the music responds to it. The game really does try to get you into the flow of things! It's a classic everyone should try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected some columns-tetris-game with better graphics. But this is quite prefect block placement game. Fast paced. Matching music that manages not only to go great with the sound effects but also not gets boring after some hours. I waited for a discount to get it for around 5 € but now I almost regret I didn't buy it earlier.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game changed my life
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Judging from my playtime, I obviously love this game. The latest update has caused the game to freeze in the latter stage of the same song. I feel the music in my soul. This has happened the last three times at the same place. Should I go back to an earlier version where my playtime indicates this freeze has not occurred. After playing with a custom playlist. I found the freeze happens approximately 15 minutes into a session. Very irritating. Should note I play this on Steam Deck.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll never forget being blown away by Lumines as a kid on my dad's PSP. Lumines Remastered is still a nearly perfect game to this day (we don't talk about puzzle mode)
positive · AI labelView post →life is like a game of Lumines: the timeline continues with or without you, and you gotta clear some space every now and then, but it's OK because the soundtrack will always be really, really good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →was playing this back on Sony PSP decades ago... still holds up today! defo need to play this one more... 5/5! A++
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Make no mistake this game is very challenging. That said, if you love games like Tetris, Tetrachroma, Reversii, and/or Meteos than I urge you to get this game (Especially at the current discount) Probably thee most addictive, and mechanically intuitive iteration of the block matching puzzle logic games. Key to all these games is the ability to plan your block placement efficiently, and slowly building up your response time to variable puzzle iterations that usually take people too long to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the videogame condensed to its bare essentials. Perfect balance of demanding quick thinking and decent mechanic skill, while providing a unique and atmospheric audio-visual experience. makes me feel like a smart. Steam says i have ~20 hours in this thing, but i have the neck pain to back up the fact that ive been hunched over my computer playing Lumines 2 on PPSSPP for at least 100 hours at this point (marginally better than this game imo, highly recommend setting up an emulator just for it if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most honest games. No hitbox shenanigans, no condescending plotholes, no community driven exploration, no instakills from seemingly nowhere. Just physics, speed and skill based snowballing. The techs are just tailored for speed junkies. The DAS is a bit slippery but given the width of the board it might be the best it can be. Maxing speed and precision is hard but possible for sure. Throughout the decades and across the titles/platforms i probably got close to 3000hours. You can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If blocks fall way too quickly in specific songs, turn off vsync. The game is normally supposed to be capped at 60fps and uncapping the fps breaks the block speed This took me months to realize after playing the game for at least 10 hours until a friend of mine told me about it. I have played other Lumines games before and I just thought it's how the game actually was and I was just really bad at it
