What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 60 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (111 of 185 positive).
Players praise the game's atmosphere, sound design, and puzzle quality. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the puzzles tedious and the pacing frustrating. [4][5][6] Technical issues like bugs and performance problems are noted by several players. [7][8][9]

Let me preface by saying that I REALLY want to like this game. It has a nice setting, good graphics (even if performance is disastrous) and cool lore. Sadly, every single step to progress in this game is a drag. Everything is locked, hidden away or otherwise gated behind what in other games would be a secret. These are not puzzles, they are just hidden away. I'm not exaggerating. EVERYTHING is hidden. You can not …

Lunacy: St Rhodes is a poor indie horror title that starts off reasonably but becomes an exercise in tediousness. With a fairly cliche plot with you going to your long-lost relatives home to see all the evil stuff they've been up to LSR is basic plot wise but not terrible and inoffensive. You are going to be unearthing your families dark past. In order to do this you must partake in what is cookie cutter indie …

You know the feeling when you start another indie horror game and you are ready to experience a flop? Well, that's not how it works with Lunacy. Right off the bat you can see that devs really cared about your experience. The atmosphere, the visuals, sounds and puzzles - everything is on a very high level for an indie horror game! I was extremely surprised with the quality and definitely recommend it to everyone who …

Starts off really well but the game feels quite unpolished in the second half. The basement levels look like those are still in beta testing. I would still recommend the game for its creepiness and awesome sound design.

genuinely have no idea why this game is sitting at mixed reviews. from what i've seen, the biggest complaint is with the puzzle difficulty... which in itself is infinitely more confusing than any puzzle you'll come across. there are, like, two bits in this game that are actually somewhat challenging to solve, and this is mostly down to vagueness in the instructions. just use common sense, and it'll save you so much …
Summarised from 34 of the 110 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
60% of the 60 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Lunacy: Saint Rhodes. The complaint that keeps coming up: puzzles can be obscure and tedious. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

The developers Stormling Studios are no newcomer to the genre, having released the Darkness Within series in 2009, a series which I very much enjoyed at the time. However, comparing LSR to their predecessors reveals an eerie similarity which highlights LSR’s lack of modernity and adaptability. Innovation aside, LSR continues to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The pacing of the game is ruined by having to stop every 3/4 minutes to solve a new obstacle/puzzle. It's hard to build tension when you are constantly roadblocked by a door, then have to solve multiple mini objectives to get access to the initial obstacle. This wouldn't be such an issue if it wasn't happening over and over (rhodes house). The tediousness of some of the tasks take away from the horror element, and it begins to feel more like a chore. When I finally encountered an entity that…

neutral · AI labelView post →"Where did he go, where did he go, where did he go..." A slightly interesting mechanic early on in this first-person horror game: your character wears glasses, and when it rains, he needs to press "SPACE" to intermittently wipe them down, lest the screen get covered with too many drops! I mean: it doesn't entirely work, as looking through glasses doesn't look precisely like that, but...nice idea, just the same (later on you rub off other things, like cobwebs and blood). Let's face it, people:…

I find it funny that Sega of America passed on the first but did the second and this happened.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 65% completion of the game 'Lunacy: Saint Rhodes', it soft-locked at a save point call 'Embracing the unknown-the magical door'. This is based on Game play dated August 20th 2023. The game mechanics failed to allow for the drawing of a magic symbol on the door surface which would have unlocked the door. The game auto saved at that point causing a soft-lock (the ability to proceed in the game to stop). Perhaps they will fix it. UPDATE>>>This morning tried the game again and it is no…

While the game's description might lead players to expect a high level of terror, the actual experience tends to lean more towards unsettling creepiness than outright fright. The game’s setting and narrative design are well-structured. The use of the character's family history as the crux of the story is a nice touch and…

An adventure game for the PS1 from the devs of Lunacy and Mansion of Hidden Souls, R?MJ sees a group of characters trying to escape from a hospital after a mysterious explosion. neutral · AI labelView post →Lunacy (1997, Saturn) Rating: 10/10 Easily the one game I’ve replayed the most times. Remarkably moody and atmospheric. Utterly strange. Unintentionally hilarious, awkward, and campy. One of the best game scores ever made. It casts a hypnotic spell. No game will ever recreate the magic of this one.
positive · AI labelView post →Conarium and the Darkness Within games are among my favorite horror games, so I had to try this one. I don't know if they had the B-team working on this one or what, but it just wasn't very good at all. You end up walking around with the world's dimmest flashlight (which thank god there were no batteries to worry about) through houses so full of garbage as to be comical, trying to find the hidden object to interact with. It was so dark that I was getting eye strain and cranked my brightness…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has too much running/hiding/sneaking. The level with the catacombs is the worst. The sigils will NOT stop the demon from crossing them once you fill them. Also to charge the various crystals to open the doors you need to charge them using the skull, which attracts the demon. If there were an easy mode or a cheat to turn off all the dying/running then I would likely recommend it, but as it is now I must warn other players to avoid this game.

Will try again later when updates and patches are done. Can't recommend as is though, since for me this is unplayable dealing with the massive FPS drops like Callisto Protocol. I'll change my review later when its fixed.

Nothing new or revolutionary here. The atmosphere is, in the beginning, not really creepy, but after you have been in the game for a while, and start to know the enviroment, the atmosphere becomes creepier. The premise is, you inherited a mansion and a detective wants you to meet him there. You are greeted with a sinister and dark atmosphere. Spooky and scary. The story unfolds rather nicely, and what seems to be really confusing, in the end you get it all. And thats a payoff. The…
