MagiCat is a platformer that starts slow and kicks off the ground into a seriously fun and difficult game if you're willing to get 100% completion. Hello friends, Today i will review the game MAGICAT. This game is a platformer where you control a little cat with a hat. Basically, a decent platformer that has three gems per each area of a level. Each level has three sections. The further you go into the game, the harder it becomes. Anyways, here is my pro/con list: PROS: - A fun platformer until you get to the near end levels. - Good controller support. I used a Logitech F310. - Cute protagonist. - Secret levels and ability to change…

It is evident that a lot of work has been put in making this game and how much the developer experimented with lots of different mechanics, while, at the same time, paying tribute to classic SNES platformers. Unfortunately, however, this is as far as praise goes toward this game. Basic abilities such as dashing and activating checkpoints inside levels have been locked behind a paywall of in-game items. Although the items are easy to obtain, I consider this a terrible idea. The controls may be…

It's well done, and the game design is unique while still having that 16 bit nostalgia. However, the unique design doesn't really equate to fun design. I found myself rarely playing more than one level at a time, and sometimes I'd boot it up only to realize what level I was on that I didn't really want to do right then and just closed it again. I'm finally just uninstalling. I think the game deserves the praise from the positive reviews. I just can't seem to enjoy it like I thought I would.

What I like from Magicat is how simple it is yet it offers a significant challenge the more you progress, early levels looks simple and feels simple but you can feel the struggle the more you progress, the devs put a lot of effort on building the levels. The game starts out decently. The control scheme is manageable for the expectations and everything has a good start. At this point, the biggest gripe is that the time trials are lazy and purely padding. However, around World 3 there is a very significant difficulty spike. Beginner players are liable to get caught by surprise and hammered while veteran players will still be able to manage just fine. However, at this point, the cracks to the mechanics are starting to show and the controls…

I never write reviews, but this game deserves it. This is one of the best traditional platformers ever made. I mean the kind with a world map and levels. Gameplay MagiCat can jump, glide for a bit in the air, shoot, climb on fences, crouch and dash. The projectile travels through an arc. It's possible to shoot upwards, and shooting while crouching also changes the trajectory of the projectile. The game has three main points of currency: Magic Potions (MP), which are only good for the level…

Seems like a cute little platformer so far. Plan on playing it occasionally on Steam Deck! Warning for Steam Deck Owners: This game does not run at 60fps and fluctuates from the 40s and 50s as it appears the game is entirely CPU dependent (set GPU clock speed to 200Mhz) along with being optimized as I doubt this game would struggle on integrated graphics otherwise. It is really odd but otherwise playable despite not having a solid FPS.

Retro plateformer with some interesting gameplay ideas and decent graphics. Music is almost non-existant, and there's no story. Well actually there's a story, there's even some "dialogues", but unless you speak cat or monkey, you can't understand the lore until NG+ Because yeah, there's a NG+ mode. Besides that, it took me about 20 hours to 100% it, and honestly I had a good time doing so. All in one I'd say it's a very basic plateformer, but somehow kinda addictive. Totally worth it's price…

So this is an odd game. I think it's like fine enough at the base, but it kinda whittles down until it's just not a fun experience. The controls aren't great. Moving and jumping are alright, but it doesn't have any noticeable coyote time so if you fall off a ledge you are screwed (some level gimmicks make this happen a lot). And then the hover mechanic doesn't just work after you press jump a second time, it is like timed from when you leave the ground for some unknown reason. And not really…

Don't be fooled by simple and cute-looking graphics, as MagiCat is challenging if you don't know what you're doing. There are around 60 levels, and each offers a different puzzle gimmick, keeping things very fresh and entertaining throughout the whole game. Its beautiful graphics are reminiscent of SNES, and the soundtrack is good enough yet unmemorable. I found the "Time Attack" section of the game quite irrelevant though, as they give you neither an advantage nor a challenge for completion.…

Its a fun 2D Platformer that gives me major Super Mario World vibes, and it was much longer than I expected it to be. Super ultra mega cute, but also a very well-designed game. There are a lot of Mario-likes that devolve into "precision platformer" nightmare bottomless pit hells, and this game understands that the real fun of Mario-likes is having unique touches in a lot of the levels, and a sense of exploration and goofing around fun and understanding the skills that you are equipped with. The game is, in many respects, a study in Mario 3 and Super Mario World game design. It boasts an interactive world map, and a ton of levels with a perpetually ramping difficulty curve. Every level introduces a new mechanic of some kind, many of which the game incorporates into that level's boss fight in fun ways, and then drops that idea entirely. Definitely keeps the player on their toes, and keeps ideas from wearing out their welcome. To hedge against the ever increasing difficulty (and…

It's like all the classic SNES era platformers squished into one. Super Mario, Megaman, Kirby, Aladdin, etc.. Level design is unique, with each level having a kind of ‘hook’ or theme to it. Difficulty is a wide range with a non-linear difficulty scale, making random levels extremely challenging and sometimes even becoming bullet-hellish, especially for a platformer. Overall cute game with a lot more going for it than initial impressions of ‘magic cat do jump’.

MagiCat is better than it looks. It's actually a really nice indie platformer with a lot going for it. You have a lot of levels ( about 70 ), each divided in 3 zones and a boss. Most levels use a unique mechanic made quite obvious in the first zone. Now they're not all great or original, but that makes for a very varied little game. You'll find inspirations of many games, from Vvvvv or Mario to games like Shantae. You won't have to complete all the levels to reach the end, but you will…

What a cute game! MagiCat is a 2D platformer where you control a wizard cat. Too bad that after world 3, this game was no fun at all. World 1 does a good job at introducing you to the game. You learn how to move and defeat enemies, and get to know the general structure of levels: 5 sections with 3 gems which are one in the first 3 sections each, 1 peaceful section before the boss, and finally the boss section. Section 2-4 each have a check point. This structure is used by every level, which is…

The game was fun and enjoyable until World 6, then the difficultly spike came out of nowhere. I actually quit at Stag 6-4 Black Out, because you cannot see any of the platforms, so it is either blind jumps, trial and error, or memorization to complete the level without collecting any gems. Overall, I now actively recommend against this game.

Pretty basic platform/puzzle game with a cute cat character, I am not a superfan of platform games but I was pleasantly surprised by how solid & complete this game is! It has a plethora of levels each with a unique gimmick or new mechanic to learn, and a unique boss with special mechanics in each level! And there are dozens of levels, I think like 63 levels. You have essentially infinite lives, though normally you have to restart the level when you die... but you can pay magic points to…

A cute platformer with puzzle elements and a heavy focus on gimmicks. Each stage in the game consists of three platforming screens, each with a collectible gem and a final boss screen. The game is constantly throwing different gimmicks at you every stage so the game never really gets repetitive. Each stage ends with a boss which also incorporates the stage gimmick into the boss fight area which is pretty cool. There's three basic enemies throughout the game but they frequently add different…

A well made 2D platforming game. It doesn't introduce any super new mechanics but it takes inspirations from the best platforming games such as Donkey Kong Country. Every stage has it's own unique mechanic which you easily learn in the beggining of the stage. Many of these mechanics are clearly taken from games such as Super Mario, Megaman, and other classics. The controls are tight and enjoyable, you never feel like you died because of bad controls. Graphics are beautiful pixel art. And…

Magicat especially for the price really and I do mean REALLY! Caught me off guard, here we have a cute sidescrolling platformer game that has it's fair share of challenges, special items you can buy for playing good that provide permanent and extremely handy (mostly) effects and a lot of level variety, this is a game that is frankly begging people to buy it not out of desperation to sell well, in my eyes it's earned that, it wants to get out there and let players enjoy and it really is just…

I was not expecting a bargain from the Steam Animal Fest to provide me with so much content. Inspired most probably by the Super Nintendo classic Super Mario World, this 2D platformer throughout 63 levels doesn’t break a sweat in showing creativity. In fact, every single stage comes in fresh by using a new gimmick not just in looks but gameplay wise with (mostly) favorable results. Furthermore, each of them has its respective boss fight, collectible gems and even a time trial in order to put…

Definite thumbs up, but not for everyone! This game looks adorable, and provides the use of score/paws to revive yourself precisely where you died, which is great for people struggling with platformers. That said, after the first few levels it has some tricky moments. Not Celeste speed jumpy moments, but patience, jump, consider, lightly puzzley boss moments. Good for platformer gamers who don't mind a slower pace but want some nice evening game. Or people who are patient and work thru…

Caveat: Not recommended for completionists (Edited after 100%'ing the game) MagiCat is a really enjoyable puzzle-platformer overall. I liked the introduction of a new mechanic with each new stage, and I like all of the main bosses at the end of each world, which are themed according to the overworld. Speaking of which, I think the overworld is the shining star of the game, with many branching paths and the ability to craft bridges across the map. You get a splash of character customization as…
