Some enjoy the classic arcade action and extra content, especially on sale. [1][2][3] Others criticize the lack of variety in levels and the absence of classic transformations. [4][5][6]

As you can see, there are a lot of old reviews on Steam about this game, warning everyone about how a disaster the port is. If you are wondering how the game runs after all this time and numerous patches, then let me inform you: IT'S HORRIBLE OH MY GOD EVEN DOTEMU DID A BETTER JOB, AND THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR GAROU'S PC VERSION NOT EVEN WORTH BUYING AT %90 OFF RUN AWAY FROM IT AND DON'T LOOK BACK The problems …

Metal Slug double X more like double ♥♥♥♥, I'm a lifetime long fan of the Metal Slug games having played them for hundreds of hours back in the arcade days and then on the console ports but this is seriously the worst Metal Slug game i've ever played! Seriously, it feels like whoever made this never played the classic games, the level design is ASS and they all look the same and the backgrounds lack details. There …

Overall an enjoyable ride with a co-op partner (Played it with my brother and we had a lot of fun) - and for the price in a sale - why not. Its an arcade game - thats the main selling point: To do it over and over again to get a better high score. It even got extra content after the main story (extra missions etc.) TL;DR: • Story: 8/10 • Characters: 10/10 • GamePlay: 10/10 • Graphics: 9/10 • Sound: 9/10 • Music: …

Metal Slug XX feels like a bigger and more polished version of the older Metal Slug games, with more playable characters, unique abilities, and even more chaotic action packed into every mission. The gameplay still keeps that fast arcade-style run-and-gun formula, but the added character variety makes replaying stages a lot more fun. The weapons, boss fights, and nonstop enemy waves all feel just as satisfying as …

To be honest, that's great. Do not listen to one side of review, especially on bad review. Buy the game while on discount right now. To SNK : can you make the game resolution like the RE Remake Remastered? It's has widescreen mode and classical screen mode. It'll be great.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →work like a charm on steam deck with fullscreen resolution, it doesn't match the previous metal slug's but every entry in the series is welcome , worth it for every ms fan. ps: if you are on steam deck you need to add this to the launch option for the game to work: force_compat_shaders=true %command%
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →please give this game to dotemu to improve this game :( -add multiplayer online -fix screen resolution and full screen and remove awful background - optimize, fix fps drop, - and there is many bugs in the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All you need to do to fix the game is. 1. Go to your MSXX Steam folder and Change the .exe properties to run the game as Windows 8 Compatible. DON'T RUN this game as an Administrator. 2. Use an Xbox Controller, if you don't have one. Use XOutput to emulate your controller into Xinput. Or Xpadder to emulate it into keyboard layout. After that, turn OFF Steam Input 3. Speaking of keyboard layout. There doesn't seem to be any issue. Map it on the launcher. Back to my review. ---{ Graphics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alot of the fantasy art direction from previous entries are gone in Metal Slug XX... No exploring tombs to fight mummies No destroyed towns infected with zombies No aliens invading earth or flying around in spaceships No swimming underwater to fight giant sea creatures No mutants crawling through sewers I know people gave SNK crap on Metal Slug 4 for copying assets from previous games but it atleast broke up fighting the usual soldiers. The gameplay is what you'd expect from Metal Slug with…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow it really is a shockingly bad port. The key bindings (which you can only access from the launcher not the in game menu) don't even say what they do, they're mapped to console functions e.g. X Y A B L1 with no descriptions... First game I've ever refunded and I have a very low bar.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This ain't Metal Slug, it's Ore Limax The recycled and re-painted assets of classic SNK era titles on these low quality puke-y backgrounds, the blarring new sound effects No just no, this game should have stayed on DS They gave us this but not MS5
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game refuses to run by default on Windows 11. It seems to launch when compatibility is set to Windows 8 with administrator privileges. Once the game passes the intro, controls do not work. On the language selection screen the game seems to get continuous up or down controller input making the game uncontrollable. The only input which works is the escape key and the steam refund button.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was cheap, i thought, why not?, well even this cheap is not worth it, i was not able to make it work with a controller, only the keyboard, this is a metal slug, you can't use a keyboard. The port itself was bad, so, this is the first time i request a refund.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow... what can I say. Been playing through Metal Slug to X then to 3, soon 4,5,6 and just beat Metal Slug 7.. This version of Metal Slug 7, this... Double X is the WORST Metal Slug game in the entire lineup! CONS: You will be auto dragged at the end of a mission screen, arbitrarily, without warning. If you had a vehicle you jumped out of to save it, it's gone now. Hey! Let the player walk off the screen! The choice to use DIGITAL backgrounds over hand drawing them in dot-pixel format is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure what many of these other comments are on about but the game works fine technically speaking. I was able to launch the game, use a controller, and edit my bindings for keyboard/controller with no issues. The gameplay does not suffer from slow-down (it may actually be the best performing METAL SLUG game on Steam in this regard) and the menus and UI were fine. That being said, METAL SLUG XX sucks because of how SNK made it originally. Tl;dr Bad game design = no fun! Unlike the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you haven't played Metal Slug 7 yet, here is the enhanced version of it. Metal Slug XX is the remake version of Metal Slug 7.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are a few games I played with the intent of reviewing but eventually decided against doing so. Metal Slug XX – a remake of Metal Slug 7 is one of those games – thanks to how little good I have to say. But it feels weird reviewing all of the mainline entries on Steam, then stopping at the last one. So here we are. Unlike most of the other games, Metal Slug XX pays extra care to continuity – almost all levels transition directly from the last. In theory this is great – the problem is, this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm rewriting this review since before it was a text wall ranting about how ♥♥♥♥ the Metal Slug series has become, but I'll spare you the details and explain issues this port STILL has over 2 years after release. >Tons of little visual glitches with sprites that I heard were patched but still happen. >Embarrassing stutters that never existed in the PSP original and make the whole thing borderline unplayable >Controller support is a total crapshoot, the only way I could get mine to work was to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The worst Metal Slug I've ever played. Felt like someone who didn't actually like/play the saga had to put a new game together. Just felt like wasting 1 hr of my life. Totally NOT recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It makes me really sad that one of the best Run and Gun series of all time consistently gets the worst treatment on Steam. This has to be the worst one yet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems not compatible running on windows 10.. looking for refund
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No. It crashes on start. Developer never fixed it. I can't ask refound cause i've gifted it to my friend and if i do then he will lose it(he actually works).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game combines the zaniness and creativity that Metal Slug is known for with the "good" level design decisions of Metal Slug 5. Whereas previous Metal Slug games were difficult but could be reasonably maneuvered around, this game's difficulty is unfair and unfun even on Normal. There are segments where you'll be on the right edge to progress, but an enemy will attack you almost the frame it spawns in. Some regular enemy formations are just layers upon layers of shields with gunners…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one is a little hard to explain. Metal Slugs main series of games has 7 in total with remakes for metal slug 2 and 7 referred to as X and XX. The series as a whole? Is a classic which should always be remembered as an important part of videogame 'run and gun' history. At a time when games were switching to early 3D they bravely stuck to 2d and created some of the most beautifully detailed sprite animation in videogaming at the time. Well unless snk makes a new one (unlikely) this is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know why this has mixed reviews. But as a 90s kid, I love playing this. especially when internet is down. if there's something to complain here is it was too short for me. 7 stages seems only. I remembered playing this for hours, not minutes lol. or i'm so used to it? dunno. also, the storyline was not quite entertaining as it was before. anyway, these crybabys can sckass. having this game on steam should be a blessing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering that this game is originally a remake of the DS game called Metal Slug 7. This port is really bad! Like the whole Metal Slug Arcade available on Steam! It shouldn't be this bad and it has no right to be this bad. The frames is laughable and the setting is potato. You can't even properly map the keyboard :/ I literally known the fact that this port is bad but I just wanna show how much this series meant to me by buying this hot mess of a port. I've been a Metal Slug Fan since I was…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had issues running the game because it would crash on intro. Then the menu is laggy along music is cutting off and slowing down in options. The game upon exit just hangs. There is some amount of input lag during gameplay. Good game plagued by horrible optimization. Feels like running on a cheap emulator. Shame on SNK for not fixing the issues even after so long. Are you guys even interested in what your paying customers have been complaining about? If you fix the game i will change to a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful port of an unremarkable game in the series. Don't bother, get it on another platform if you must.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean, you've seen the mixed reviews already, it's not gonna change from that, ever. The game itself is a mixed bag, so whether you give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down you're right. This is a low effort port of a remaster of Metal Slug 7, and it shows. The background compression is horrible, and even if it weren't, there's not much to look at there. But it is challenging enough, and that can keep you going. It has some nice bosses, and the mission mode on the training school mode is a nice…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game won't even boot lol bought it at a steep discount and still feel like i was scammed :D
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cons: 30 FPS (same as in PSP Remake) Noticeable input lag (same as in PSP Remake) Stuttering music (Probably a 144Hz problem) Game is basically emulated. Pros: You can transfer saves from PSP game to Steam! Files are literally same as Europe version! I'd pay more for some proper fixes for that port. P.S. Devs are great, they have did what they have been able to do. My review is mostly about how the port was directed, managers at SNK have not tried to make a quality port, they've decided to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ugggh....only works in Windows 8 compatability mode. (windows 11) Reported as early as 2019, but still no fix available. Tried to play coop, got stuck in the sand and could not get out. Had to retry that level, asked for a refund instead. Avoid!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does not appear to work on Windows 10. Just closes right away as soon as it begins to load. Will be requesting a refund. Sad, I was really looking forward to playing this one on my arcade cabinet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Born to love Fio, forced to play as Marco.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a quiet night to myself so I thought I'd crack open the copy of Samurai Shodown on my shelf that I've been staring at for a few years. I played some Shodown back in my ZSNES days, I bet I can dust off the old skills! So anyway, three matches in and the computer has so thoroughly whipped me that I think maybe I could use a slightly more relaxing pace of game. So I open up the copy of Metal Slug XX on my shelf that I've been staring at for a few years. I played some Metal Slug back in my…
neutral · AI labelView post →Possibility the worst MS of all due to poor game design, not to mention fps/crash issues.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An inexcusably bad execution. There's no reason a PC game released in 2019 should have such issues. The game doesn't launch unless you set the keyboard bindings to default even if they're at their defaults already (one of the steam discussions posts shows this--running in admin/compatibility mode also worked). Which is weird, since there is no keyboard support at all in the game. They made the menu for keyboard bindings without making the keyboard actually work. The game runs in a tiny postage…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Input lag combined with insane difficulty makes this game unplayable compared to the rest of the franchise which is actually *fun.* There's *nothing* enjoyable here. Avoid like the plague.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are not already a Metal Slug Fan go play the other games first. This is a port of a remaster of Metal Slug 7 which is in my opinion the hardest game in the series meant to test fans skill and sadly patience. This game is divisive among fans due to it being less new content than Metal Slug 3 or 6 while some of the bosses are gimmicky or damage sponges making already hard fights more frustrating. That said alot of the refinements of Metal Slug 6 made it into this game and this is the only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unnecessarily hardest Metal Slug game in Steam. For achievements, you must beat every mission with only pistol and one life. Also there is a time limit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest, that's great. Do not listen to one side of review, especially on bad review. Buy the game while on discount right now. To SNK : can you make the game resolution like the RE Remake Remastered? It's has widescreen mode and classical screen mode. It'll be great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wrote a negative review of this product because it is a very bad product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might genuinely be the only game in the franchise I just won't platinum, and I've platinummed all of the Metal Slugs available on Steam. While my review is positive, it's purely because this is still a Metal Slug title and compared to the slop that's released nowadays it's still fantastic... but oh boy compared to the other Metal Slugs this is one of the worst ones... First of all, the price being DOUBLE the others just feels wrong, as it's literally just Metal Slug 7 with some side…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kinda bugged with controllers, awful input lag, and no so epic compare to the others
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please do NOT repeat my mistake of buying this on a mad spree of getting entire available franchise at once x.x Why? Because this the worst Metal Slug I've ever seen and I've played them all but 6 (unless there are spin-offs). One could think "oh all those reviews are old" and some even mention that, however, maybe performance got fixed and features added but...it's far from perfect: First you MUST set up controls in the tiny launcher that appears, then you still have to go to in-game key…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great classic arcade game XX.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just buy on sale Metal Slug 1, X, 3 and XX. Do not get MS 2 - it's the worse version of MS X. You have to re-config the settings since these are old simulated games. Running 1366x768 windowed mode, 1s delay loading next stage on my old PC. There is no lag or whatever problems in Negative reviews. Play normally with keyboard like a PC game should be. Main menu is sluggish though. P.S: Why do people expect online co-op in the old games?! I'm wondering if they will request 4K remaster for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The port is not good.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of now (Dec 28, 2022) the game works good on Windows 10. So fear not. This game is basically a remake of Metal Slug 7. Is it good? I would say yes, though it's definitely one of the weaker entries in the Metal Slug canon. That being said, a weak Metal Slug is a great game for most other franchises. Despite the backgrounds, weapons, and slugs being not all that interesting (compared to the previous games) there is a lot of fun to be had here. Playing as the Ikari Warriors (Ralf, Clark,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →saw that the PC port of Metal Slug XX was 60 fps and i was like wdym the original wasn't to wdym NO Metal Slug game ever ran at 60 fps it really hit me now how hard it is for me to see the difference when it comes to 2D games
neutral · AI labelView post →Some claim the game will work when you put this in the launch options in the game properties; force_compat_shaders=true %command% But it still doesn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work because it says Windows can't find this command. Also sorry for the poor ♥♥♥♥♥♥ who think they'll actually fix this broken garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game for what it is but as a whole, I don’t think that it was that great. I wouldn’t recommended anyone to buy it unless it’s on a deep sale and you are a metal slug fan. The Good It was a very action-packed game. It was an easy game that you could beat in like an hour. There were character profiles where you could read about each character’s history. I thought that was pretty cool. But I’m not sure if that backstory was made by the original developers who created the original…
