Many players find it a good VR game but not as good as Half-Life: Alyx. [1][2][3] Some fans say it misses the atmosphere and depth of the original Metro games. [4][5][6] Several reviewers praise its immersive horror and story, especially for Metro fans. [7][8][9]

Metro Awakening Misses Everything That Makes Metro… Metro Metro Awakening feels like a game that desperately wants the Metro name on the box but forgets literally everything that made the series special. This isn’t a Metro game in spirit, tone, or design. It’s a jump-scare carnival wearing a Metro mask, and the result is honestly painful. Atmosphere? No. Just Jumpscares Instead of the heavy, tense, oppressive …

I'm 53 years old. Haven't really been into video games much at all other than playing very, very occasionally since I was a teenager. While I would recommend this as a good VR FPS, I wouldn't recommend this as a Metro game. Its for the most part an FPS with a Metro skin on it, because at least to me my favourite part of the Metro games wasn't the FPS combat, it was the secondary stuff like customising a wide range of guns, managing ammo, stealth, the characters and story, interacting at actual Metro Stations with people. Exploring and going to the …

Yes if u compare this game to Half-Life Alyx, the game pretty much lacks in everything. But if u look at it as a standalone vr game in its self its basically perfect. Would recommend buying it if u have a vr.

Sure, it doesn’t look like Half Life Alyx but which game does? This was a Quest 3 first game. They knew their limitations and tried to mask it with a really good art style, just like back in the day when PC games were optimised. I like the story. The atmosphere and acting were great. They reused some maps and assets throughout the story, but it didn’t feel cheap. I really like…

Gonna be starting with some Metro Awakening (VR horror/shooter game), then moving onto multiplayer games with friends! Should be a great day with some cheeky wine tasting somewhere in there too!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty bad VR game. I love Metro, but this one was terrible. I really tried to give it a chance — I think I have around 6 hours in it and was almost finished — but it became such a drag that I couldn’t keep going. Most of the game is just walking around and opening doors forever, with only occasional gunfights. The game is also so dark that you’re constantly recharging your flashlight, which gets annoying fast. On top of that, the story just wasn’t interesting at all. This Metro…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not worth the money, performance is pretty bad, game's good for maybe a single playthrough since you can't skip anything and the story feels very repetitive, the game assets and enemies are the same, just reused in different places. Spiders are incredibly annoying bullet sponges (but you can turn them off in the settings), for the mounted turrets you may think they actually overheat but the meter on them doesn't mean anything. On hardcore, stealth is mandatory because you won't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay so, been reading all the reviews and I can see why some people are disappointed. They wanted al Alyx-like game in Metro. I've played 3 hours so far and here is my honest review. It's not a Alyx, maybe Alyx from Temu, buuut as a Metro game, it does fine. Not excellent but fine enough. The story is simple yet good enough. The ambient music is on the loop so when it gets tense, you think that something is coming but there is nothing. The weapon handling and interactions with different…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey the Metro Awakening VR game is great! I just played the first 90 minutes and the only reason I stopped is I needed to charge my headset.
positive · AI labelView post →If you can get this on sale I would recommend it, barely. Apart from the equipement and weapons models, the game is half-good at everything. Gun handling is cumbersome, the pace is very uneven and don’t look too close at the textures. I thought my headset was out of focus until I realized that it was the textures playing tricks. For a pc vr game I found myself being mostly annoyed at how poor the visuals were instead of paying attention to where I was or what I was doing. The gameplay loop is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game from late 2024, this is complete crap. Low-quality textures, zero interactivity, no visual body armor, you put everything in the void. The flashlight runs out of power every three minutes, and you're constantly having to spin the generator. Even on the easiest level, there's not enough ammo. This project was rushed, a disgrace to the Metro series.

positive · AI labelView post →GPU; 9070 XT OC RAM: 32GB DDR5 So I've had this game about 6 months & just completed it on Hardcore Difficulty. I tend to play VR for a few hours at a time and then put it down for a month or so, due to limited free time. I've logged 18 hours game time, so it works out about right. This is my second favourite of VR games: HL:Alyx being first. Story telling was brilliant. It wasn't mind-blowing or shocking, but it did just enough to be unique and interesting, whilst keeping it simple for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a bad game but mechanically it just feels like I'm playing Half Life Alyx with slightly less polish and less interesting world design. And for the base price of $50 it just doesn't really deliver imo.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly I have to agree with the negative reviews. The beginning is so boring it makes you want to fall asleep. Graphics are simply beyond poor on top of the usual metro ugliness and I had everything maxed out, horrible fake russian accents. I don't know who would enjoy this game, perhaps someone who never played anything else before or doesn't know any better. I am genuinely curious how can someone enjoy such a low level of entertainment. Refunded after 80min and I paid £13 for it. Absolutely…

neutral · AI labelView post →Metro Awakening is one of those games that makes me wish I could leave a Neutral review on Steam. There is fun to be had here but, and that's a big but, the game is very flawed. Let me start by saying that it outstays its welcome massively. Maybe that wouldn't be a problem if the game had something new and unique to offer every now and then, but it doesn't. By the time you finish chapter 2 (out of 12) you have pretty much seen 90% of assets that this game has to offer. Not only do you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i'm usually a big metro fan, but this game is just unplayable. PC is well beyond the minimum specs listed for the game (there are no recommended specs listed on steam at time of writing). i've been able to play every other vr game i've ever tried, including HL:Alyx and a few others, with no issues. this game had me turn all my graphics settings to minimums, just to get a smooth 30-40 fps, and at that point, the load-in times were jarring and the textures are worse than the original Half-life…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A must have for every Metro fan and for everyone else who likes post-apocalyptic, immersive, story driven, survival horror games with guns. The controls are intuitive and the game itself looks great. There are jump-scares, however, they do not feel cheap. Instead they add to immersion. Edit: One thing they should definitely improve is that some places are just too dark, cannot see anything with max brightness when in stealth. You can edit the Engine.ini file manually, but this isn't user…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly the worst metro game to come out. 1: Would've been better if it was just on Desktop, the VR is a nice thing, but for the kinda game it is and the design they were going for, it doesn't work with VR. VR also shot the graphics into the floor. The game just doesn't look good 2: Mechanics are poor, the believe me i love the way the backpack and its accessories work, but the flashlight dies too quickly, you're unable to recycle chambered bullets in dropped guns, and the crouching thing is…

positive · AI labelView post →After only 20 minutes, I cannot recommend this game. For some reason, everything seems blurry and the textures are low-resolution, even with maxed-out graphics settings, the game still looks bad. Furthermore, the performance is awful, and I crashed so many times that I couldn't get past the prologue. This shouldn't happen considering my PC has no problem running much more graphically demanding VR games. It honestly looks and feels like the Quest version was ported to PC with only minor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Borrows a lot from alyx, exploration and combat is nice, it maintains that great balance of horror thriller and shooter. I have really only one main gripe with the game. While the game does balance tension well, I do feel like it's lacking the downtime in between sections that the metro series is known for, and it does make the segments blend together a little. Story's a little underwhelming, but I liked the ending. After finishing the game, I'd say it definitely overstays it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just half life alyx but everything was twaked to offer moderate level of annoyance. not so bad that it make you quit, but enough for you to never be able to get used to it.

positive · AI labelView post →Fairly short, only 12 hours for playthrough on Medium, but so far the second best VR shooter I have played. (Alyx is 1st, Boneworks is 3rd). Played on Oculus Quest 1 (so at 72Hz) over Virtual DEsktop no problem, beat it in 3 sessions. The later Nosalis chapters had me properly scared. The really only annoying one was the Pipe Maze, but after about 20 minutes I finally realised what I should be doing. Highly recommended, even if maybe not for those 40 Euros. But at 30 or less it's a must buy. It…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I admit, I kinda expected this game to be short and not be worth the cost, but I'm glad that I'm wrong. This game is.. pretty long. Almost Alyx long. But totally, don't play this game like Alyx. It's pretty immersive and it does get the atmosphere feeling just right. I'm not disappointed. This is a very good game and feels all right at its price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Metro, you'll like it in VR. If you don't like Metro, well... you will need a new pair of pants. A solid VR game that is immersive and fun. 8/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an ok experience. If you have played Metro before, steping into the Metro in VR is fun. But the game really feels and looks incomplete. I just dont get the ghosts. Why do they disturb your vision but also kill you when your too close. At some point you can't even see where to escape. Its like a bad Stalth experience, you have to pass them without getting too close but they can't even see you. This mechanic got used way too often for how its actually not adding anything siginificant to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Metro Awakening review: One of the best VR shooters yet, but not without flaws. With Metro Awakening, Vertigo Games delivers a gripping post-apocalyptic shooter that tells a successful prequel story over twelve chapters. No prior knowledge of the Metro books or games is required, making it easy to jump in. The interaction with the world and the gadgets works really well. The handling of the weapons is convincing. Most of the fights are exciting, and the soundtrack is well arranged. Plus: There…

positive · AI labelView post →This game is so laggy although i love the metro series alot I genuinely cant play because of how bad the lag is
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, finishing it, I am pretty disappointed. Just felt pointless throughout. The gameplay is fine, with some really annoying and serious issues. The grab range for your syringe and pistol is RIDICULOUS, to the point that anytime I tried to grab anything they´d get in the way, and there are no options to adapt those. The performance is pretty bad through any method available - Steam VR, Meta Link, wired or wireless, the game becomes a slide show whenever anything exciting happens (and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7.5/10 I'd say the minus is big and simple - no russian audio. I mean, it’s MOSCOW metro and everyone is speaking English? No, that not how it is supposed to be. Controls are clumsy and quite often mess up and instead of holding a gun you may hold a magazine in a crucial moment. The stealth moments are suspense and shootouts are dangerous as ever in such crowded spaces. You know, metro itself is dark but in VR it is much darker. So dark that you can’t literally see at all. Optimization is…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a lifelong fan of the Metro series and an avid VR enthusiast, Metro Awakening satisfies just about all my asks. This is a near perfect rendition of the claustrophobic post apocalyptic Moscow subway tunnels, now in real world scale and precise immersion through the comforts of your headset. While at times you can certainly tell that technical compromises were made in order to fit the system requirements of the standalone headsets (like the Quest 3), what is presented here is bar none, and I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts very slow and boring, then gets quite good and fun for a while, then just has you walking the same route over and over and over again... for literally the entire second half of the game. I can't understand all the hype this game gets. Can't recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite allowing Seated play, this game glitches almost constantly in Seated mode -- your hands constantly grab items from the hip holsters, and grabbing items from the "belly pouch" is next to impossible. Only buy this if you can play in a Standing mode.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WOW! This is was such a great game. I purchased it around the time it came out as I am huge fan of the METRO Franchise. Did not get around to play it until now. This was an amazing experience, if a game can make me cry with a beautiful story. Thats an instant recommend. Game play top notch. Only complaint I had was the Spiders being a bit much. That maybe a skill issue and not a game issue..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only reason I'm giving this a thumbs up is for fans of the series that want a VR experience. Gameplay/controls: Think Half Life: Alyx with a much more limited physics engine. The game runs well, but the new wears off within the first hour, in my opinion. I despise the metro car sections where you're just shooting enemies while locked in place. Believe me...these scenes occur too many times and are not fun. Not to say everything is bad. The spiders, which they marketed pretty hard…

Guns feel pathetically weak, but the game was absolutely amazing. I didn't read any books involving Khans back story and I'm happy to finally see it.
