What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (609 of 758 positive).
Players describe Mini Settlers as a relaxing, minimalist city-building and logistics puzzle game. [1][2][3] Some find it lacks challenge and becomes tedious due to road bottlenecks and small maps. [4][5][6] Others appreciate the low-stakes optimization and freedom to redesign without penalty. [7][8][9]

Overall, this game is a relaxing, stress-relieving experience. There’s no survival pressure—you just focus on planning production lines. However, the restrictive road length (it can’t be too long or too short) and the fact that roads only transport a single type of goods really hurt the gameplay experience in the later stages. Many advanced factories need multiple raw materials to synthesize products, but they only …

I normally really enjoy automation and city builder games. But the campaign maps are just way too small to be enjoyable. On top of the small map size, there are resources on some of these maps that you can't even use yet in the campaign, so they just take up valuable space and contribute nothing. Bottlenecks are also a huge frustration. The concept of roads and highways are very badly explained. In this type of game …

I’m really enjoying this game. It’s chill and satisfying, and it reminds me of Mini Metro. However, instead of losing when resources aren’t transferring fast enough, your population just decreases. The goal isn’t to avoid losing, but rather to grow the population to a target level and construct monuments. If you make a mistake that causes traffic jams, you can fix it without stressing about losing the game. I love …

as someone who could never get into the factory builder genre, this game finally made it click for me. it's the right amount of easy to set up production of something but hard to optimize it, and the no cost of buildings makes it mostly painless to torch your whole setup and rebuild it better. the tools to see how much of a certain resource you're using / producing and the heatmap of how much your roads are being …

Good time killer. No stressful game ending mechanics. Just play and get to your goal. Take your time.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is ultimately a pathing bottleneck puzzle game, made harder by unnecessary UX/QoL barriers. For example, the game naturally leads to constant base redesign, without the luxury of being able to move buildings. So anything you want to change has to be deleted and rebuilt, which upsets the whole balance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini Settlers seemed like it would be a cozy little colony sim, but by Campaign 3 I take issues with some of the core game mechanics. Nothing unlocked from previous maps carries over, so each and every level you have to jump through the same initial hoops on an island that often feels much too small to begin with. You have to balance the supplies of the different tiers because you need a mix of Tier 1 & 2 to reach population caps. So upgrading to Tier 2 feels awful because you reach the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the basics of the game but then I realized once you start expanding and try to meet the higher goals of each mission, the game turns into a puzzle game where you have to build just the right things and precisely optimize everything based on the very limited space and resources available and I just don't like that in a simulation game. I don't mind having to work through some optimizations in a simulation game, but not to the degree in this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Be warned this game offers NO opposing forces or real challenge So I'm recommending because ... it's the nice thing to do... Sit down, mute the music, chill and play with your toys You like setting up things ? You like connecting stuff ? You like to bring stuff to places making stuff or apparrently needing it, for ... stuff ? Are you hungry ? Go eat and you're likely to finish a level, like a champ ! That's it ! Do it again, you'll be awarded more toys and stuff !!! Anyways, isn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hoped it would be like mini metro - cozy but with a pretty challenging campaign to chew through. This however is extremely easy to play, you basically just place the buildings and they work. I'm not solving interesting problems and every campaign map, I just click through without any real effort. And therefore I find myself bored and disappointed after 4 hours.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlike what the game name implies, this is a conveyor belt automation game, with a minimalist art style and city theme. Connect thing A to thing B, so it can bring products between things. Do that, a number goes up. Number goes high enough, new thing is needed to make it go higher. Connect more things together, maximize space allocation and efficiency, minimize crossings because things expire if they stay too long in one place. Get that number high enough, you win. In short, this is a factory…

Please do not rely on the negative reviews that just complain, especially about bottlenecks, QoL, or getting stuck. I have not encountered any game-breaking bugs, so I won't comment about that. Mini Settlers is a unique and fun game in which you try to achieve the stages' goals by carefully planning and adjusting how you build your settlement. You'll…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More of an open-ended puzzle game instead of a factory or colony builder, which is a disappointment because the puzzle element is repetitive when each new level all of the elements have to be unlocked again starting from scratch. Every stage starts with the basics to re-unlock every building type and then has to be deleted to use the limited space for the buildings that are actually needed; just start the stage with everything that is needed unlocked!!! The early levels have some of the later…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the most important thing in this game is logistics, yet developers made the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ road mechanics possible just to ♥♥♥♥ with you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea but I cannot recommend this game. For a game about production lines, you must have the ability to get resources to where they need to go. The two main ways you do that in this game are roads and freeways, but the problem is that roads cannot "pass underneath" freeways. As you get further into the game, the "factory" you're building just gets less and less efficient while leaving you feeling like you can't do much to improve it. I felt like it was a struggle just to get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this game through the Humble Bundle and it is the type of game that I usually like a lot. But this one for some reason manages to miss every spot. Automation is not fun. It feels incredibly grindy. Road system is unintuitive and once figured out, just not working like it should. The factories are okay, but gathering wood is incredibly annoying (I haven't played that deep, but it appears that it's the only resource that is finite) Anyways, I have given this game the same 3 hour play as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea is nice, but I can't recommend it until the bugs and balancing are fixed. I played for four hours and I found about a dozen minor bugs and one crash. Minor bugs included drivers that stop moving resources, or ghost roads that still display after being deleted. Nothing that a save and reload can't fix, but annoying nonetheless given the frequency. Regarding balancing, it's impossible to avoid bottlenecks on your roads given the fixed capacity - drivers are slow to move resources…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too many bottlenecks, cannot make buses, too limited. The drilling 5-minutes looped music doesn't help either. Sorry....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini Settlers is a fun pick, it came out last summer and is a minimalistic city builder. Simple, but you can put loads of hours into this! Relaxing, but also challenging. Check it out 👉 bit.ly/minisettlers #cozygame #indiegame #simulationgame
positive · AI labelView post →Dear developer: If you're going to make a mini simcity game, do yourself a favor and don't make putting down roads so absurdly twitchy and anti-intuitive that you kill all enthusiasm for even completing the tutorial. Here's a hint. If you are going to allow and require putting nodes into roads at specific spots, PUT THE NODES WHERE I TELL YOU TO PUT THE NODES, not randomly one space over from where I tell you to put the node. Seriously. Congratulations: You have made an OCD punishment tool.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the look of this game and it seems to have lots of things to build and progress. However there are some serious issues that make the game unenjoyable: - There are not nearly enough road options. There are only basic roads and highways, no multi-lane roads, and no bridges. Quite soon into the game you realize it's going to be impossible to build all the way up the tech progression because the roads are just going to be become a complete mess. - The buildings take multiple…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo while it was still in Early Access and liked what was there. It's now reached full release and has a lot more content added to it. I'm really enjoying myself and have rather neglected other games in favour of this!! To me it's a puzzle solving game of logistics, not really a city builder (but it doesn't really claim to be one!!). It seems to have a nice difficulty level regarding balance of resource availability. By that I mean a map provides a certain amount of resource…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There needs to be a better way to make paths cross without overloading particular points, I feel a little overwhelmed with how much I have to plan ahead. Having something like a bridge would be nice, or a type of road between highway and a normal road
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m mixed on the game overall. While I really enjoy playing it, I feel like it still needs quite a bit of development before I could confidently recommend it or call it truly “fun”. Road construction currently I find is kind of clunky in the game and could be greatly improved, I also don't like how the people can only run around a single resource and then once it gets to the intersections they can get destroyed if there’s too much traffic. I wish you could upgrade the roads and stop this from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping to enjoy this game but why in the world would you design the first few levels to take so long to beat when you're not even learning anything for 99% of it? You're barely allowed to build anything and it takes an unnecessarily long amount of time to reach the production goal where all you're doing is sitting there at 3x speed waiting. If it had 10x speed or let you skip to having most of the unlocks maybe it would be a recommend but as it is I just don't see a compelling reason to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Almost every island in the campaign has unlocks set up wrong. Meaning demands that can't be satisfied, quarries that can't be used, mines that can't be dropped, animals that can't be used, etc. i hit a map that can't unlock boats needed to even get started, and quit. The sandbox is pretty empty.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: I got this game refund. So if anyone like me, purchasing this game in EA with a higher price, you can request a refund as the 14 day period counting from the 1.0 release. In the early access, the game was 37.8 and now it is 36.4. What's the point to support the devs just to find out it is cheaper to buy the released full game. I should not support the devs in early access just to be ripped off at the release.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know what I was expecting, but this isn't it. The roads make no sense, the logistics are frustrating, and the grind is tedious. Nothing really feels rewarding, and there's very little reason to keep playing. Maybe it's just not for me, but honestly, I struggle to find a single fun element here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have tried to play the game a couple times and each time I run into a different problem. 1. I find the roads kind of unintuitive, it doesnt really make sense to have a truck that only moves on a tiny section of road, and although it works just feels off functionally. 2. Highways are even worse because they have a weird length requirement, which often makes you have to plan/rebuild your stuff or make spaggetti style highways. 3. What am I doing this for? The lack of any type of story or reason…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game in Humble bundle, so not free but very discounted. 13€ is way too much for what it is. Thought it's a minimalistic colony/logistic sim. That it is, somewhat. It needs a lot of QoL updates and polish. - Starts with something simple like rotating a building is "R", closing the build menu completely is "E"... - Lumberjacks remove trees from the map, foresters plant new ones. Their build space and area of effect are so badly overlapping that you waste half of both no matter how you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandoned by the devs, and the gameplay itself is largely a waiting simulator. Even at max speed, progress drags.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a minimalist hybrid city builder and factory game that relies on connections between resources and buildings to create and grow a city. Like Sim City meets Mindustry but somehow worse than both. Which is not to say this is exactly bad, while the graphics were phoned in, there's some depth and fleshed out features like a campaign mode and so on. No doubt this is a genuinely made game, not a cash grab scam or anything like that. Unfortunately genuine intentions alone don't make for a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this type of "puzzle" game. It is pure resource management in the sense of supply and demand. No worrying about accidentally not getting enough stone for a road, or not having enough food where your villagers die off, just pure optimization.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected something light and simple, but it wasn't. It's not that the game is poorly made. It's that it wasn't something I was looking for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as someone who could never get into the factory builder genre, this game finally made it click for me. it's the right amount of easy to set up production of something but hard to optimize it, and the no cost of buildings makes it mostly painless to torch your whole setup and rebuild it better. the tools to see how much of a certain resource you're using / producing and the heatmap of how much your roads are being used are amazing, along with the other quality of life features. the art style is…

positive · AI labelView post →The most common achievement for this game, is finishing the tutorial. Which I did do. That said.... only around 60% of players did this. That means 40% of people bought this game and didn't even finish the tutorial. That should go somewhere far enough to tell you how I feel about this game... it's soulless. It's like a city builder, without the city or the builder. It's just waiting on menus and dots. You can sorta build.... But there's no real freedom in it. Just weird interfaces.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i want to give this a good review, but it bothers me so i cant. Houses and buildings are even distributions of grid space. sounds good right? wrong, this makes them highly incompatible with organization alongside roads, everything i make looks messy and highly congested. it infuriates me to the point of giving up and closing the game, and so i just cant recommend it.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is not lying about what it is, a simple city builder but maybe a bit too simple. One road can carry one resource at a time and you can't upgrade it. You can unlock highway that are a bit faster but they can't connect directly to buildings so you're stuck with those slowers roads always. Logistic is quite important in that kind of game and this is a mess to try and figure out with so many resources passing on the same roads. Would adding one more road be enough or you need to add more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Satisfying but simple mechanics are held back by a lack of simulation performance, only supporting at most 3x time acceleration. This turns what could be a fun mini-Factorio into long periods of waiting for a single number to tick up. Don't buy unless you like padding your playtime stat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible logstics mechanics Progress reset after every level even on 3x it is too slow
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is designed in a way that wastes the player's time, and while I can't read the minds of the creators, I have trouble believing it wasn't intentional. It's a combination of a weird design choice: 1. no clear way to keep the game going while the window isn't focused (meaning you have to be only paying attention to the game to progress, even when there's obviously nothing to do but wait), 2. the lack of any indication of what actually grows the population (the main goal of the game)…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini-settlers is a minimalistic city builder as advertised. Pros: -Good for a lowstakes chill experience, no failure, just optimization -Can pretty freely delete and re-design your city/set-up Cons: -The minimalism is lowkey too minimalistic. Feels very boring to look at. -Rotate is hotkey'd to R, when every other game has it on Q/E -The fact that you can't move your buildings/roads once they're built and can only delete to rebuild is annoying. Overall Mini Settlers does exactly what it set…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun but a bug made one of my islands stop producing and transporting everything. The loss of progress due to that and the possibility of it happening in other missions really brings it down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. Cool idea, but buggy (already encountered like 3 separate bugs after a couple minutes, which is pretty yikes for a supposedly full release of a game! did anyone actually playtest this, at all?), and very repetitive campaign (hope you enjoy setting up the same basic production again, and again, and again and again)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini Settlers is a deceptively compact city-building and logistics simulation developed by Knight Owl Games and published by Goblinz Publishing and IndieArk that focuses on clarity, efficiency, and systemic depth rather than visual excess or narrative spectacle. At first glance, the game’s minimalist presentation suggests a lightweight experience, but once players begin expanding their first settlement, it becomes clear that Mini Settlers is built around tightly interlocking mechanics that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you've ever played the Anno Series, it's a cozy minimalist version of that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit buggy, route visualization frequently looks like a blue spaghetti, deleted roads glitch and are left rendered, place a filter and the resource stops moving anywhere though a route exists. It's very difficult to create routes that work without just making everything a huge boring grid. Otherwise a fun and chill exercise with enough content to last for a while.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What's the point of the countdown in houses for every new request? I have to wait minutes for nothing but just for that timer even when resources and everything else is available. Otherwise it would be a very good game, but this is very annoying. I couldn't recommend until it's not solved.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried picking up the game a few times within the two hours of my paytime but im simply not having any fun with it. It feels like such a drag to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly it's a pretty bad game in many ways. Too simplistic, you just redo the same thing - drop buildings for whatever the villagers want, eventually things get filled even if it's terribly optimized. You wait around even on the highest speed for the villagers to ask for something so it very slowly increases the population.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good until you get to the endgame... All of the limitations start to show up... Losing your hard-to-produce items to a convoluted web of badly designed road system isn't nice... Also, the kind of developer who deletes it's X account and creates one on bluesky... That says a lot, too...

Also add more descriptions of throughput --do shorter road segments pump faster? Do trains react to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The buildings look more placeholder than minimalistic and the game is riddled with bugs. It's not unplayable, but there's better better logistics/management games out there. Instead play Shapez or any of the Anno games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini Settlers Automation/Factory Game D+ a proficient factory game that I think is too regimented. I like layering things over each other and this ends up a bit too much single layer... I want tunnels or crossovers. The Mini level structure also disrupts progression imo. #gaming
neutral · AI labelView post →Mini Settlers is a minimalist colony sim with logistics management as its main focus. If you are a fan of those genres, it's pretty fun. However, the game could use some quality-of-life improvements, extra recipes, and some bug fixes to better improve the experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It started off tough for me as a newbie to the genre, but got easier as I slowly learned to basically grid everything in multiples. Fun little game, but it's a lot of waiting and small tweaks to get builds just right. If you're fine with that, go for it. It really grew on me.
