What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 297 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (106,594 of 127,597 positive).
Players praise the fast, fluid combat and wirebug mobility, calling it the most fun Monster Hunter. [1][2][3] Some reviewers complain about Capcom adding Enigma DRM post-launch, hurting performance. [4][5][6] Many recommend the Sunbreak DLC for greatly expanding content and endgame. [7][8][9]

Capcom needs to be called out for adding shady DRM to games we already own years after their Denuvo expires. Why do you do this Capcom? You only hurt paying customers and consumers with practices like this. This game had almost no performance issues until Enigma was added. Stop stealth adding Enigma DRM to your games we already own.

i poured 400 hours into this. older monhun fans will try and convince you that this game is bad because its "too easy" and then when you go play MHGU or another obscure monhun game the whole experience feels like getting your balls forcefully vaporized multiple times over because of how clunky and slow the controls feel. do NOT get mind controlled by them. MHRise is good. Wirebugs are cool. The combat feels insanely …

Played base Rise after World, hated it. Tried it again after starting Wilds, liked it a little more. Went back to World after playing Wilds and realized it changed...or moreso I changed. World wasn't the perfect game I remembered it as. The combat was clunkier. The camera was hard to manage. The game looked different standing in the shadow of Wilds. Perhaps I treated Rise to harshly. Got Sunbreak and gave it another …

Forget about immersion, photorealistic graphics and grounded combat. Rise is all about being fun. If you are coming from World or Wilds, you NEED to have this mindset to enjoy Rise, this is a heavily action-focused game with very little downtime between hunts. Fights are fast and intense, weapons movesets are customizable, wirebugs gives you insane mobility and attacks, the maps are smaller but way easier to …

Sunbreak made this game so much better. Definitely worth playing.

89% of the 297 Steam reviewers we collected recommend MONSTER HUNTER RISE. The complaint that keeps coming up: capcom added Enigma DRM that harms performance. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Monster Hunter Rise received "generally favorable reviews" from critics, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. OpenCritic determined 96% of critics recommend the game. Critics praised the addition of new tools such as the Wirebugs and the game's expansion of Monster Hunter: World's mechanics. Sam Machkovech of Ars Technica praised the new movement mechanics and how the game adjusted many monsters from previous entries to compensate for it. He also criticized the game's technical performance saying, "I did run into frenetic battles where the frame rate buckled into the mid-20s." Martin Robinson of Eurogamer appreciated how the game's hunts were shorter than prior games. Richard…

neutral · AI labelView post →To preface, Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak is my introduction in the MH franchise. Here are my Pros and Cons after playing 200+ hours in it and I apologize for any grammatical mistakes. PROS: 1. The gameplay loop is very addicting (Grind monsters - get their loots - craft weapons and armours to fight stronger monsters rinse and repeat). 2. Lots of weapons to choose from with unique skillsets to master. 3. Wirebugs and Palamutes for easier map traversal and mobility when fighting monsters 4. The…

positive · AI labelView post →I was very hesitant purchasing this game when it came out and quite frankly i shelved it in my wishlist for years. I honestly regret not playing it when it was new and many people were playing it, but nontheless whether you have a group or solo, this game is endless fun for me (and that's coming from a person who normally cycles between two games at a time only). I'm in my early 30s now and I know i can't devote a lot of time in immersing myself with games with a lot of mechanics and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for the best modern hunting experience, THIS IS IT! The base game is nothing crazy, but the Sunbreak DLC elevates this game to a quality not seen since Generations Ultimate. This is the only modern Monster Hunter that stays true to the series' roots, and it does it spectacularly. The best endgame grind, tons of content, a diverse roster, heaps of skills to try for each weapon (many fan favourites from Gen) will keep you satisfied for hundreds of hours (Most of mine are on…

Although there is a lot of negative comments to this game, for me MHR is currently the best MH so far. I was introduced to the MH franchise with MHW which i liked a lot of it's combat system but the overall gameplay was just unbearable. I still put 20h to it but ended up dropping, i can't play a game that only makes your life worse. But with Rise, it was love at first sight, in my first hunt i realized that Rise WAS everything i…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had over a thousand hours in this game on Nintendo Switch. It goes without saying that the PC version is significantly better. I loved the Switch version. But I am very happy to have it on Steam. I also played 800+ hours of World:Icebourne on PC. I like Rise better, but I certainly see the appeal for World. Wilds, sadly, doesn't stack up. Even with the graphics turned up, I just don't feel that Wilds looks nearly as clean as this game. Wilds usually looks like a blurry mess in…

We've recently got back into Elden Ring which we'll maybe get to again this weekend. We've recently finished the Abyssal Woods with its boss at the end (really cool fight, first time I've managed an entire fight with parries) and are now exploring this green, verdant, lush, and jungle-like area in the top-left corner of the DLC's map (don't remember the name).…
neutral · AI labelView post →Friend got me the game because he's an avid fan of the series as a whole. I've never really touched it myself - mostly out of fear of the complicated control scheme, convoluted systems, and heavy grind-mentality of the gameplay - at least from what I heard as an outsider looking in. However, at 284 hours now and roughly HR154, I have to say it is pretty fun.... with friends. Alone it is definitely a slog and the grind is slow and pretty frustrating. But with friends, not only do the hunts…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love love love this game. As a huge fan of the series, this might be my favorite entry in the series. I loved World, and Wilds was an overall fun experience (although I don't know if I'll go back to it...), but I consider Rise as my top MH game. I think that the worldbuilding gameplay are masterfully done. There's also so much content that you'll never want for something to do or a new goal to meet.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many compared Rise to World and while I can see a fair point especially if you're a new player from World. Rise felt more like the older games in style, and maybe it's nostalgia but it's the main reason why I prefer it over World. Get Rise if you want to play fast pace and in a sort of GU or P3rd style, and get World if you want a more realistic feel. Both are good games overall and I recommend playing both as they are enjoyable in different ways.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game! This was my second Monster Hunter game I have ever played and I really enjoy it, while World may have better graphics, the gameplay in Rise/Sunbreak is so much better!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr It's a good game with fast and frenetic combat. If you're coming from other Monster Hunter titles, it helps to get into this game by thinking of it as "not a Monster Hunter game." Instead, treat it as a high octane character action game ala DMC 5 and it becomes easier to enjoy. --- I have played MonHun for most of my life. I started with Freedom Unite as a kid and have played pretty much every mainline game excepting only the OG and 3/3U. In terms of gameplay experience: I've solo'ed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first, the graphics didn’t impress me much, but that makes sense because Monster Hunter Rise was originally launched for Nintendo Switch. Once I actually played the game, I realized how fun it really is. The gameplay is fast, smooth, and extremely enjoyable. Combat feels great, movement is fluid, and hunting monsters never gets boring. Even though the graphics are not ultra-realistic, they are still good, clean, and well optimized, and they fit the game’s style perfectly. This game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, really fun to play and they reduced friction from prepping to hunting down to a minimum (I feel World has a better balance on that front but if you are looking for a gameplay dense experience with minimum downtime this game is by far the best). Wonderful variety of playstyles for each weapon and the monsters are top tier (old and new alike). BUT last time I played on PC (mid 2022) it didn't have Enigma-DRM (when Capcom added it to RE4R and the reviews dropped from 95%+ down to 80%…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →CAPCOM GET ENIGMA OUT OF THE GAME & STOP SCREWING OVER YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS. IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE RESIDENT EVIL REMAKES SO WHY IS IT STILL HERE. I'm not a fan of the tutorial or dumbing down mechanics like World. There's another early game DLC set that makes the player busted just like World. The first real monster I hunted barely did more than chip damage to the starter armor set, which detracts from that feeling of seeking materials to build yourself up since you're already powerful. The…

This game also has the best combat in the series by far a lot of action and combos from the 14 different weapons and the monsters themselfs, give it a try you wont regret it.
