Monstrum
Developer Team Junkfish
Monstrum takes the traditional survival horror formula and remixes it completely with procedurally generated levels, permadeath, and AI driven predators, ensuring that nowhere on its derelict cargo ship is ever truly safe. From the Steam store page

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,429 of 3,785 positive).
Players praise the game's atmosphere and tension, calling it a thrilling horror experience. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note bugs and performance issues, including game-breaking glitches. [4][5][6] Many find the game highly replayable due to procedural generation and multiple monsters. [2][7][8]

it ain't good. there is no difficulty scaling, monsters jump you with little to no warning, enemies 1 shot kill you (and one of them can do this from across a hall!). permadeath doesn't add anything to this game, just makes it more tedious and unfun as at any second your run ends instantly. As the entire game is hallways you can't run past monsters either, monsters home in on you and linger for way too long as well, …

Genuinely Fun and Thrilling This game is a simple concept executed exceptionally well. Your objective? Escape. How? By collecting the items needed to set up one of three escape routes. Sounds straightforward, right? Well, not quite—because you’ll be doing it while being hunted by one of three terrifying monsters! Every playthrough is unique, thanks to procedural generation. The monster, the layout of the ship, and …

I can play this game again and again and again and again, and it never bores me (the escapes always make my heart pound, still, too). Everything about this is beautifully done. Yes, it has its jank and its graphics aren't exactly breathtaking, but it's an 11 year old indie game--cut it a little slack. Besides, neither, in my experience, have subtracted much from any of my playthroughs. The game still has amazing …

Great game, terrible developers. Completely abandoned it to work on "other projects" that are not even close to being as good as this game. Cant believe they drop the ball so hard and continue to ignore their best and only worth ip. Theres a massive glitch that slowly makes your character grow and eventually you are unable to exit lockers, essentially killing your run.

Game is generally very good, although not perfect. The atmosphere, soundtrack, storyline, it is all done very well. There are a few things I would like to point out that would make it better IMO: The monsters in this game are constantly teleported to always be nearby the player. You can be in the upper crew deck part of the ship, then run all the way to the other end near the submarine room to get away from the …

First of all, it took me a good while to figure out how to get it hooked, and once I did that and moved it with the crane, it bugged out, I accidentally jumped on it while it was still on the ship, at the lower deck and I almost couldn't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think we'll start with Ys/Falcom. 1) Ys IX: Monstrum Nox This game was the game to finally dethrone Ys II as my favorite of the series. This might raise some eyebrows, especially because I think that Ys VIII is a much better game. However, I had a lot more fun with Ys IX.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- there was a massive performance spike in Monstrum, a proc gen game, that was caused by an artist making a 4k texture for... neutral · AI labelView post →Fun little game overall. Some people compare this to Alien: Isolation and I wholeheartedly have to disagree. This plays nothing like Alien and really stands on it's own great ideas. First and foremost, obviously the monster ai isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but it definitely gets it's job done. Especially the Brute is supposed to be a big dumb dumb, so in that sense the game is pretty accurate. The map layout can get pretty daunting for players like me, who constantly get lost in…

neutral · AI labelView post →Monstrum, the feeling of early horror Monstrum is a product of its time, coming from an era when horror games focused on hiding from terrifying monsters and trying not to be seen. The core gameplay is definitely enjoyable, but it has its flaws. There are extreme frame drops, especially when encountering the Brute, along with various bugs and an overall sense of jankiness. That said, considering it was released in 2015, it still holds up surprisingly well. It's a must play for anyone looking…

neutral · AI labelView post →I remember watching Markiplier playing this years ago and I thought at the time it wasn't that scary, So I decided to try it for myself and I spent most of my time hiding in lockers. The game does a good job at making you tense and scared, I also appreciate the small details like seeing your player model with animations. Good Game, I got it on sale so it was cheaper than usual but I feel that it could be cheaper since how long ago it was released.

neutral · AI labelView post →Sad to be saying this, because I had high hopes for it, but this is the worst game I've played in a long while. I gave it a couple tries throughout one year. Things I couldn't handle: -navigating the map is repetitive, frustrating and confusing; everything looks the same and in addition to that gives off a very liminal, empty vibe, like it lacks interesting or interactive details -there's plenty of equipment and small details in the rooms that look and seem usable, but actually can't be…

positive · AI labelView post →The monsters in this game are absolute exit campers and nothing has been implemented to their AI to prevent such behaviour. Despite the odds, I managed to beat the game first try, by circling the brute near the sub area, until I finally had some slight breathing room to access the button that lowers the sub. The scary part about this game is the constant threat of starting over, not the monsters themselves. I believe the lack of saving was a big mistake for this game. It feels like the devs…

The premise of Monstrum is that you wake up without any knowledge of where you are. The story of the game is told via lost notes and its environment. The task is simply to escape the desolate cargo ship while being hunted down by a monster. The game is randomly generated in terms of where certain key items may be, and allows you multiple…
