What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 79 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (122 of 162 positive).
Some reviewers criticize the game for poor writing, tedious dialogue, and frustrating dungeon design. [1][2][3] A few players note the game has balance issues and repetitive grinding, especially for achievements. [4][5][6]

I wanted to complete the game before I reviewed it, but it just seems to be fighting me at every turn. The stats and mechanics are poorly explained, battles seem to run the gamut of effortless or tedious, with nothing in-between, and the dialogue is relentlessly awful. That last point is what gets me the most, actually, so I'm going to go in-depth a bit on that: 1. Every character seems to have some little snark to …

I've been looking for an RPGMaker game with a cheesy story that would offer some enjoyable dungeon crawling in my library and Moonchild seemed like an appropriate candidate. The old feeling of a SNES RPG is back for me. i haven't played much yet but i already have that feeling and i want to see the end. everyone who loved old RPGs should buy it and play it! i realy enjoy it a lot.

Pretty good if you are into a classic FFIV style RPG. The dialogue could have used some polishing but I'm enjoying myself while playing this game and that's what counts.

Brings back the memories of older turn based games. Love it~!

The isolated and upscaled icon comes from a low-res screenshot, but I think it makes a nice Moon Child logo. 🙂 I've uploaded it to the MC Archive: archive.org/details/Moon...

neutral · AI labelView post →Edit: Steam is now showing this review as pre-release. I don't know what the publisher of this game did on Steam to make it think it was in a beta before this, but it wasn't. It was sold as a full release, with collector's editions and everything. It is still a terrible game, and everything in this review is still valid. TL;DR: This sort of game is the reason RPGMaker things on steam have such a negative stigma. It exhibits incompetence at every level. I am now honestly surprised this game…

I made a short video, showing my wife playing the game. 💚 The game display quality was better in real life, and the audio is mainly wind noise. 😅

Is this game a masterpiece? No, it is a rpg maker game, although a good one. I had so much fun with the boxed version already that I simply have to add this to my Steam library as well. neutral · AI labelView post →#MoonChild It is with great pleasure I announce... Moon Child '95. This is a mod that seeks to tweak the original game to play and look more like its Amiga demo counterpart, adding scrapped content from both iterations (such as the gothic theming, and Hoi!) And Calypso isn't going to just stand by and wait for her people to "do something". Instead, she takes a faithful advisor and her weapon and follows the trail. As you can expect from Aldorlea, the story is thrilling and well executed, with a few twists. I'll say it straight, though. If you don't enjoy exploring dungeons, Moonchild is not game for you. Play Millennium instead.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Moonchild from Aldorlea is an exciting quest involving a mom (Queen Calypso) to save her daughter (Moonchild) from a vague, but likely terrible ritual that seems to be involving female royalty across the land. The action begins immediately with the kidnapping as Calypso leaves her castle via a secret dungeon-like path and goes from there as she and her assorted party members search a vast land for various people and items to assist in the search. The story is excellent, and quite involved, but…

Suffice to say, their experience with RPGMaker and general storytelling, always reflects in the excellent quality of the games they release. neutral · AI labelView post →Moonchild might not be among Aldorlea's biggest or most impressive games, but it's a very fun one to play nonetheless. The story is about a queen Calypso's daughter Moonchild who has been abducted and as a dedicated mother Calypso will do anything to get her child back. You start out with a small group of characters that grows bigger with time. All characters are pretty interesting to play with and once you have more than four, it's often like, "Dang, who do I NOT take in my party, I want…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Um~ This game has a lot of good reviews, but I really have no idea where they are coming from. I guess if you want to play a turn-based RPG with no care for the story, then maybe this would be ok? But I have no idea who plays an RPG without wanting a decent story. The story is really bland on it's own, but the real killer is the dialogue. It's so bad. Everytime there is a scene with the characters talking, I cringe. It's unbearable. Even if the story was amazing, I don't think you could enjoy…

Moonchild is a great example of such a game. I played Moonchild approximately two years ago, and had a wonderful time. positive · AI labelView post →You probably already know if you want this game; Aldorlea has found its niche. As always, it's a competent, sprawling, RPGMaker RPG. It plays in the same style as old-school, SNES RPGs such as FF4, albeit with a little rougher dialogue and story than the greats, but it keeps you moving and engaged, and it does an excellent job of rewarding exploration. As always, it's a little bit over-zealous and silly, but in a fun way. It's a solid effort, looking, sounding, and playing welll, with few…

That's like giving someone on death row another 3 months of jail time. Who cares? The level design is beyond atrocious. It's illogical, stupid, brain dead, and a huge waste of time. It takes a 10-minutes maze to get into a town/village. You'll be doing this numerous times because of quests and sToRy. The game calls them dungeons or something (I don't f**king remember, you'd…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skip this title and go for better RPGmaker games. I'll keep this short: Early game is awesome. Good action and decent writing. Later the usual JRPG grinding and massive dungeons come into play and it becomes a test of endurance. The #1 review of this game lists very accurately the bad sides this title has. (and i am being much more lenient here on the writing) Oh i know fans of JRPG just love this but for me once the interest starts to wane it doesn't get better by throwing more of the same…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is what one would expect from an Aldorlea game, as in it has a good plot, nice characters, and is fun. The Moonchild of the title is an 8-year-old princess, who is kidnapped. Her mother, Queen Calypso gathers a bunch of friends to search for and rescue the child. As well as punish those behind it. If you go into this game not expecting more than the usual, you should be fine.
