Going from pleasant and likable comic relief in the first film to a self-centered jerk to the second.

It frustrates me because there WAS potential and talented people were involved, but the film wastes it and completely tarnishes the characters, especially with how much of an asshole Mushu is! This gif sums up the issues.

It's one of those sequels where it feels like they're willingly undoing a lot of the good will brought on by the first movie. It's not even SLIGHTLY based on the Mulan-legend.

positive · AI labelView post →I'd say it's a decent flick. Not comparable to the first film, but it is nowhere near bad like say Mulan II or BMW. It has pretty well-done animation, solid voice acting (including Chazz Palminteri, Alyssa Milano, and the late Mickey Rooney), and some moments that are memorable enough.

When I was a young girl, seeing female protagonists kick ass was always something I loved! (Her being Asian like me was a bonus.) I'm sure there is a healthy dose of nostalgia there. But the sequel had an even blander premise. Mulan and her buddies had to accompany three women to another city to be chosen by a prince (?) to be wed. The sisters fall in love with Mulan's buddies. Forbidden love. Shenanigans…

neutral · AI labelView post →A genuinely good sequel that does not get enough hype is Mulan II. The music slaps the plot points are interesting and dramatic in all the right ways. A banger of a film.

negative · AI labelView post →4. You know how people complain about Mulan II for being overly-animated? This film looked like that. Often too fast and too similar to let personalities show themselves.

I know these probably aren't the best examples (except maybe the 2nd) but... (shrug)
neutral · AI labelView post →An alright sequel. It's a more watered down story regarding Ming-Na Wen's character, with more focus put on lovey-dovey stuff as opposed to a fight of some kind. Therefore, things are naturally less enjoyable than in the original film. To me, everything's just a little slow and predictable so I can't rate it higher. Away from Wen, the supporting cast is weaker with the absence of Eddie Murphy as Mushu. Mark Moseley actually comes in with an OK performance, yet it's not a jot on Murphy's. There…
