What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 133 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (158 of 200 positive).
Players note the collection contains NES ports, not the arcade originals. [1][2][3] Many praise the inclusion of the Pac-Man Championship Edition NES demake. [4][5][2] Some reviewers find the price too high for the content offered. [6][7]

Why just include NES versions instead of Arcade??

M2 does a fantastic job of putting together a collection. The emulation is top notch and the menu is easy enough to navigate. I love that they are preserving the Famicom ports of classic games and even including an excellent demake of Pac-Man CE to complete the package (Easily my favorite part of this collection and the reason I bought it). The rest of the games range from good ports (Pac-Man, Mappy, Dig Dug), fun …

This is good purely because it has the NES demake of Pac-Man Championship Edition. If you want, you can put it on a flash cart, like the EverDrive, and play it on real NES hardware. It also supports expansion audio which sounds great. Honestly, it's my favorite version of Pac-Man Championship Edition. Other than that, this collection is not good. It's not even the arcade versions of these games, it's the inferior …

Honestly I should have looked a little closer when I purchased this as I was hoping to find the original arcade versions of these games, especially Dragon Spirit. However they appear to be the less fleshed out versions that were found on the old NES console. That said, if you want to relive some old nostalgic times with NAMCO titles on the NES then look no further. The gameplay is still pretty solid and there are a …

If you're willing to play NES versions of popular arcade games and willing to pay $2 a game, go for it. If you think you'll like the Pac Man Championship Edition 8 bit version, go for it. Otherwise pass up buying it. I've been having fun with the games and it was worth my money. The Championshiip edition gets most of my game play.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was disappointed to see the games included were the NES ports of the titles advertised
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good compilation from M2, though I am incredibly bummed the shelf UI from the Japanese version (NAMCOT Collection) is totally scrubbed. That was actually the closest the series has gotten to returning to the "museum" display from the PSOne games and they just axed it for a boring menu. We also don't get manual scans or cartridge pics like in the JP version. But in terms of content, this compilation is a very fun NES set. All the games run pretty well, though I noticed odd stuttering in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“To clarify, these are not the visually refined arcade editions of the games. Instead, they are the NES versions.”
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even though some of the games like Dig Dug and Dragon Spirit have aged well, I think 20 dollars for this collection is too much. You might think that 11 retro games is a lot, but half of them aren't very entertaining by today's terms. So unless you loved each one of these particular games to bits when you were younger, I'd recommend skipping this collection and playing the individual jewels of nostalgia with an emulator. Sadly they haven't included any background information or early concept…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I owned a ton of these NES ports and don't remember the amount of input lag I see here. Makes Pacman nearly unplayable. This does not live up to the quality of M2 ports.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bringing back the NES versions of the classic Namco Arcade games is a great idea on paper, but in practice, it was bungled pretty horribly. In terms of the games, they varied greatly in quality. Mappy, Dig Dug, Sky Kid, Dragon Spirit: The New Legend, and Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti are awesome games that certainly deserve a play. However, most of the other games are just downright garbage. Tower of Druaga is incredibly archaic and you need a guide to have a chance at beating it, Galaxian is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing release. While the quality of the emulation appears to be fine enough, the bait and switch here is that these are not actually the arcade originals, but appear to all just be the NES ports of their respective games. As well, the vaunted "demake" of Pac-Man CE only contains two levels, sloppily patched together from the original, but now with bad controls and missing mechanics. Really not worth it, even for cheap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I may be biased, but my grandmother used to have a NAMCO disc for her playstation, and this brings back so many memories of me and her playing these games. Can't help but to love it! Wish they had galaga instead of galaxian tho.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's always good to see various gaming companies publish collections of their arcade titles from back in the 90s and before, especially with some of the classic gems that were released back then including Namco's own Pac-Man and Galaxian among other popular titles at the time to those familiar with the arcading scene. Sadly, I have to say that, having experienced this game for myself and giving it a fair shake, NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol 1 is one collection that could have used some more time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uses inferior NES versions of respective arcade games. The bonus 8-bit version of Pac-Man Championship Edition is pretty fun, but not enough to justify the bundle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →High time to bring out some old classics and you can do that with the new Namco Museum Archives Volume 1 & 2. In total you get 22 games, spread over two packages, Vol 2 mainly contains sequels to the games of Vol 1, but also others. Some of these games were never even released in the West. One thing is for sure, you can expect pixelated nostalgia. Check out the gameplay of the games in Vol 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM8mOylaivo The controls of every game in the collection work very…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →store.playstation.com/en-gb/produc... Also, Namco Museum Archives Vol.1 is currently 75% off (UK PSN but presumably everywhere else too) & is worth more than that alone for the Pacman Championship Edition de-make Buy & play Namco games, for cheap
positive · AI labelView post →The rewind feature is a half-a.rs.ed broken mess. Other than that, its just a load of roms without any extra effort made to deliver a quality product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was expecting Arcade versions not crappy NES.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Weird keybinds. Why can't I reassign them?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game shouldn't be 20 dollars. Most of the people who play this only choose one game and only play that one. I usually just play pacman ce. I think it would be better if the games were sold seperately and sold for about a dollar or two. plus they're all NES ports, I think it would be really cool to have an arcade version on steam. I don't think the NES version of dragon buster is very good and would much prefer to play the arcade version. But if you like NES ports of arcade games, then this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 achievement for Mappy is to clear round 19. Round 19. Absolutely perverted.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Namco Museum Archives Vol 1 is a collection of NES ports of some of Namco's popular early arcade titles. M2 seemed to do the bare minimum of putting this collection together with little more than what most emulators allow for. The collection of games here are pretty good. Most of them I've played in one form or another. Though, few of these games have I actually played on an NES. Instead I'd played the arcade, C64 or some Atari home console or Game Boy Advanced version. Which is where the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All I can say is please release more volumes than 1 and 2...... It's not the Namco Museums we knew on the PS1 but its a treat to see Famicom versions of these games some available officially for the first time. The game emulation is 100 spot on and when thing are handled by M2 you know you're getting something good. Druaga , Dragon Spirit and Legacy of the Wizard are among my favorites. Saving means you don't have to remember or write down tedious passwords to continue your game. Had bought…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's OK. It's kind of an odd release, honestly. I mean, in 2010, Namco released the "Namco Museum Megamix" for Wii, which had 18 arcade games as well as 5 remade titles. It was really cool. But, instead of porting that to PC, they decided to make a whole new release, with 10 generally-poorer NES remakes of the arcade releases. It's weird. Get this if you want to try the bonus Pac-Man Championship Edition "demake", or if you have nostalgia for the NES releases. Otherwise, you might have a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remote play is too buggy, and 2 people can't use keyboard for the same game... sadly refunding gonna play these on emulator
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More collections BANDAI NAMCO please but $20 for 11 game titles when they were free games one time. I'll wait till sale to get Vol. 2 I love the fullscreen UI on these old games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay if you are aware that these are just Nintendo and Famicom roms. Don't expect a full elongated vertical screen Pac-Man or Dig Dug it'll be a square screened NES version. Adjust your expectations... These are 8-bit NES games...Mappy is nowhere near the quality of the arcade for example. There is a Pac-man championship game that appears to be some sort of sophisticated Romhack of the pac-man rom. Intersting collection, particularly the famicom games that never saw a US release on the NES.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →humble purchase Contains the only splatterhouse game currently available on PC. that alone is worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, it's weird that these aren't the arcade versions. I admit I didn't look at the store description very closely, lol. But whatever, games preservation is cool by me. Galaxian: A good port I guess? And it'd better be, the game's from 1979, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Apparently this game invented color? That's cool. Pac-Man: It's Pac-Man, but a little slower and with worse sound! Xevious: I'm sure this was revolutionary but the two second loop that comprises the music is painful. Mappy: Adorable! I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All NES Ports. What in God's name is Namco thinking. Would it be crazy if Namco gave people something they really wanted. Such as different versions of the game such Arcade versions. Such as the Konomi's Contra collections. Where they gave all version American & Japanese version & the Arcades & even the Gameboy versions. Now that is taking a little bit of time & giving fans what they always wanted. And for many such as myself I never got to play some of those version, so that was a real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NES ports. both volumes I do NOT recommend the Pac-Man CE demake is cool but thats ALL this collection has going for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was nice of them to include some bonus games with my purchase of Pac-Man Championship Edition: NES Edition.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for more classic Namco games for your Nintendo Switch or PS4, Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 is on sale this month for $4.99 USD. (The sale doesn’t apply to Xbox One and Steam.)
neutral · AI labelView post →I've been playing through my Steam backlog, and so I took on Pac-Man in Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1. The game is fine. But the cutscenes... A ghost gets its cloth caught in a nail, and his butt is exposed. Then later on, you can see that same ghost run away. Naked??? They have bodies?!
neutral · AI labelView post →These don't feel like their arcade versions.

neutral · AI labelView post →Only 11 games? You're telling me Namco couldn't fit all the titles on 1 game? Give me a break.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Erm, what is this product? I bought this expecting to have a faithful reproduction of the original arcade games but it seems to be a very lame 8-bit game console version. Really disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a big fan of retro game compilations, and the Namco Museum Archives are welcome additions. It's important to note right off the bat that these are NES games and not the arcade originals they are ports of. That didn't bother me as I grew up with a NES and love any opportunity to be able to play 8-bit classic games on Steam, but if you're looking for arcade originals you're going to be disappointed. M2, as usual, does a great job making sure the games play right and providing us with QOL…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Both volumes are good for what they are. HOWEVER, be aware that these are NOT the arcade versions. They are the NES versions. I bought both volumes for $9.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth the price for Tower of Druaga alone, but Splatterhouse, & Pac-man CE put the collection over the top. After playing a few hours of this collection, I was ready to give it a big-fat thumbs down. NES Galaxian, NES Dig-Dug, NES Xevious, and NES Pac-man are some of the worst games I have ever played. They were boring, horrible, unresponsive conversions back in the day, and they are every bit as bad as I remember them. Before moving on to the positives, there's one more game to add to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The games in this series are very good; however, I wish Bandai Namco would have given us the arcade versions of these iconic games instead of the Famicom version. Nonetheless, I think they're still worth playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When on sale, this collection is worth it for the Pac-Man Championship Edition NES demake alone. It's very fun.The other games are alright, but some of them are available in their superior arcade form on Steam and Switch, so those releases might be a better option than this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For 5 dollars, this collection is worth it for the NES demake of Pac-Man Championship Editon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not the Arcade Versions but the NES ports. Still worth having for anyone who has fond memories of being a child in the 80s. You can find the Arcade Versions of Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Galaga on Steam as separate games. But like I said before, If you were a child in the 80s you will find a few things you like here
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Xevious.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just the 8-bit versions of these games. Was hoping for arcade versions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Namco Museum Archives Volume 1 is a pretty solid retro collection if you’re into old-school arcade vibes and tough-as-nails gameplay. The lineup has classics that still hold up, and the rewind feature helps make some of the harder games less frustrating. The bonus demake of Pac-Man Championship Edition is honestly one of the coolest parts of the package. Not every title aged perfectly, but it’s still a fun nostalgia trip for retro fans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works well on the Steam Deck, although there is no way to close to program from within the in-game menus. "Namco Museum" is a name they have slapped on a LOT of projects, and for a very long time. Which is unfortunate, because it can cause a lot of confusion at a glance. This really should have been called the "Namco Famicom Collection," as this is in no way a museum (you don't even get box or manual scans, never mind any supporting material related to any of the games; even the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pac Man CE NES alone is worth the price of admission
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE TOWER OF DRUAGA SUCKS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is worth it on sale for Splatterhouse in my opinion. Nevermind played it before and very fun and not too difficult. As for the rest, it's okay. I wish there was more to the rewind feature but better than nothing. Also wish I could customize controls in game instead of having to change them on steam itself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very good collection of classic FC and NES games. I had played some of them in the childhood. Although I managed to get seven achievements, but others are too hard for me. Pros: +Many challenging old games. +Player can enter 1099 password in Splatter House. It will let you go to final level. Cons: -No manual. Some game instructions are very simple. I still don't know how to use magic items in Dragon Buster.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good amount of old school titles from Namco. It's got your typical features including save states, rewind, scanlines and background wallpapers, but it's really just a basic collection though with no real bonuses. Dig Dug and Dragon Spirit were the highlights for me. 👍
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol 1 is a collection of classic arcade games that fails to live up to expectations. The selection of games included in the package is disappointing, with many notable absences that would have greatly enhanced the overall experience. The emulation of the games is also poor, with many of them suffering from subpar graphics and sound, and not capturing the same feeling and nostalgia of the arcade games. One of the main issues with the game is the lack of attention to detail…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not great, I was expecting the Arcade versions, not NES versions! This game doesn't behave nicely on 16:10 aspect monitors either :( It's poor.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I love retro compilations like this, I can only go very slightly thumbs up because there's still no in the middle/mixed option...first up, these are NES versions of classic Namco 1980s arcade hits and also an 8-bit-like version of Pac-Man Championship Edition. Overall the selection is a mixed bag-there is a second volume that has some of the notable titles missing here, specifically Galaga. If you played the NES versions (I had several of these) they are the same as the original with…
