What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 177 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (518 of 727 positive).
Players praise the game for its fun, old-school shooter gameplay and unique supernatural WWI setting. [1][2][3] Many note it is a short, janky experience with bugs and glitches, but still enjoyable for fans of the genre. [4][2][5] Some reviewers criticize crashes, long load times, and technical issues that hinder the experience. [6][7][8]

NecroVisioN: Lost Company really needs a map. DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW DOES NOT EVALUATE MULTIPLAYER MODE DUE TO SERVER SHUTDOWN. Story Allegedly taking place in World War I, players take on the role of a German officer and scientist known as Jonas Zimmerman, who is traveling to the front lines in France to deliver a vaccine he has been working on for a disease that is spreading through their men. The mere act of …

This belongs next to Bloodrayne, Nazi Zombies and Wolfenstein for being a unique and insane supernatural alternate history game. Ironic how a game almost 12 years old now is way more entertaining then pretty much every shooter nowadays. Love everything about this and the original NecroVision. Pick up the Zombie Triple-Pack. You won't be disappointed.

Melee combat feels awful, hitboxes are probably inconsistent, random objects can send you flying, your rockets have massive knockback on enemies but it appears that they actually pull the player character towards the explosion or at least downwards, you can get stuck on, in (?), next to and possibly under(?) enemies and some bossfights seem to involve quite a lot of luck. Despite this (or, in some situations, …

Finishing Mystic Quest tonight, then starting Portrait of Ruin and NecroVisioN this week, and continuing the most terrifying game of all on Sunday: Baba Is You! See you then! www.twitch.tv/eltrioch

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Necrovision was something of a hidden, unpolished gem, and if you liked the base game, you'll probably like Lost Company just as well. It's essentially the first game in microcosm, but with Half-Life: Opposing Force style twist in the fact that you're playing as the villain from the first game, and it shows how he came to power. The base game was split into two halves, with the first half being a sort of combination of War FPS and first-person melee brawler and the second half featuring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was actually expecting a sequel, but this is a prequel to Necrovision. Still not bad though, as it explains things from the other side and leaves the opportunity open for Necrovision 2. In Lost Company the protagonist is - surprisingly - one of the first game's main villains, Dr. Zimmermann. It seems like he wasn't really the bad guy initially ( with the exception that he was part of the German army ). The first game tells us that he became a necromancer and betrayed everyone, here however…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“A man's got to know his limitations.” ~Dirty Harry NecroVisioN was anything but good. Funded by a publisher who didn't care 'bout quality at all (due to regional peculiarities) and developed by former People Can Fly employees, it was a complete disaster. Despite being released in 2009 – a year that gave us Left 4 Dead 2 and Battlefield 1943 – it wasn't even able to compete with People Can Fly's Painkiller, which was released five years prior. Not visually (technically, Painkiller's Pain Engine…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NecroVisioN: Lost Company serves as a prequel and standalone expansion to the original NecroVisioN, expanding on the dark blend of World War I warfare and supernatural horror that made the original a cult favorite. This installment shifts focus to a new protagonist, Lieutenant Simon Bukner, whose journey takes players through even darker and more surreal battlefields than before. The game aims to refine and enhance the core mechanics of its predecessor, while deepening the narrative and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks like it was made in 2002 instead of 2010. It is a bizarre prequel to the original Necrovision so if you liked the base game you will probably like this. You play as a sociopathic German scientist during the great war as he descends into madness and becomes the necromancer from the original title. If you liked the original janky but somewhat unique gameplay of the original than this might be worth it. For the most part the modern gamer probably would not like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big improvement over the first game. Quite a bit shorter which works to its benefit; the first game tended to turn into long hallways of the same few enemy types repeated over and over for 15+ minutes at a time which would turn into a real slog. Also the tank missions are a big plus.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a full standalone game despite its label on steam, this is very much a dlc expansion from the first game. The engine issues that caused a lot of bugs in the first game is fixed, so its stable to run vanilla. The missions of flying a plane and operating a tank is fun, but apart from that and a couple new weapons, a couple new enemies and a couple new areas (some levels from the first game is reused) there isn't much else different. I enjoyed the first game and i enjoyed this. This is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forgotten gem. We probably never will see a modern remake. It has it´s jank and weird physics. Jonas is much more likeable than Simon. Chad Imperial German scientist vs Zealot American. The story takes more grounded stand, and tries to explain itself more better. The tank and plane scenes were perfect. For historical and for fun reasons it makes sense, that you´re made to drive the FT17 rather than A7V Somehow combat felt more functional than in the First one. You actually had fellow…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school shooter that is more fun to play than a lot of newer titles. I played the original Necrovision on disk when it came out and loved it. This isn't as good as the first game but I have no complaints. I wanted something fun with mindless destruction and this fit the bill. Great game. Don't be put off by the dated graphics. It's fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I originally played the DVD version of this game. The setting is 1916 trench warfare. In addition to German soldiers, Simon soon finds himself fighting supernatural forces, including vampires, demons, and zombies found in locations varying from the battlefields of World War I to secret laboratories and underground caverns. The game is in Russian but subtitles are present for those speaking English. https://www.hardcoregames.ca/2010/02/19/necrovision-lost-company/

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, man, oh man, oh man! This one is fun! I feel like I play one similar, not the OG NecroVisioN, but nevertheless it brings back the good old vibes. It is just pure fun, uncomplicated massacre! Follow us for more stupidly fun [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45205361-Boom-Boom-Bros/] Massacres!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like DOOM or Wolfenstein but in WWI from the Central Powers side. Dont expect alot of things to make sense but just load in and kill. You also get to meet US General Patton and yes...the failed artist is in the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uses a third party launcher, so you have to launch the launcher to launch your game. There's an option to not launch the launcher, but it launches it anyway. Also the game is jank. Also it's owned by China.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For some reason my normal box has the collector's edition content, including a making of DVD, soundtrack CD, and a little art book. The game isn't very good but developer The Farm 51 clearly put a lot of effort into it. They also made Necrovision.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is a prequel to NecroVision. It follows Jonas Zimmerman, the man you eventually fight in the first game, going through his side of things and how he came about with the shadow hand. The story was pretty good and I liked that in most of the chapters, there were at least one person or a squad of people with me helping to fight my enemies and they actually did damage to things. Not just "fake" allies who are just there for show. Unfortunately, this is a short game compared to the first one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone wrote here the screen throws you a black window sometimes it loads back up and sometimes not I recommend it (don't buy it) otherwise it wasn't bad the game had its charm such a weaker painkiller.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rather than just Yes, I would really put this a situational recommendation. Would you like more Painkiller, but more jank? If yes, then NecroVisioN: Lost Company is for you. A prequel to NecroVisioN, it follows the events of how the main character gets his Vampire powers and just how much worse things got after all of the monsters arrived. It isn't a terrible game, but no award winner. I would be more likely to play Painkiller again before this, but still a neat experience since Farm 51 was…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just like the original, it's a hidden gem, janky fun old school shooter. Less vampire levels, more WW1 levels and because of that it's a better game in the series. Shorter but more engaging due to less navigation required, it's more action focused and just uses everything that was fun in the first game while avoiding tedium.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Supremely janky and cheap in all aspects, but there's an odd, trashy charm to it. Some of the gameplay is genuinely enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is kinda...Its a mess! Especially in a mid level cut scene where the enemy attack you after it end giving you like 0.3 second opening to evade/attack which is impossible! The last boss fight was a complete mess! I want to add something! Why does it it take 18~25 for the loading screen!??? New level or loading a save game takes too long! The oldest thing in my PC is a Core i5-7500 that was released 2017!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think what I've found to really love about this game and what i think it also illustrates about a lot of the games it reminded me of like FEAR, Half Life (2 especially), The Darkness, NecroVisioN and a lot of the other shooters I played growing up is that I think a lack of extraneous fluff (2/?)
neutral · AI labelView post →A short old school shooter, that means don't question just shoot. Despite being a bit generic and janky at times, the mix of gore, ragdoll and slow-mo will never cease to entertain. I think the game truly shines in the last few chapters, where you get your real powers, and so the real fun begins.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NecroVision is a fucking fever dream of a game
positive · AI labelView post →Why are people acting like this doesn't have the same issues as the first one?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty disappointing, especially coming off the first game but still a pass as not much comes close to this or painkiller. this outing is less polished and shorter while also being expanded in terms of content. the ultimate sin of this game is that it is somehow easier than the first game by like 4 different ways. nearly every encounter has a tall box or something to sit on top of while enemies gather around you and wait to die. almost every encounter in lost company also has.. company. these…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gotta say, i recently just finished NecroVision the 1st and now started to try NecroVision LC. To be honest, i dont like it at all. It's nothing like the 1st Game and not only that, there's a Mission with a Tank and i get killed by flying Demons. When trying to load back into it, the Game crashes just like that. I've had multiple crashes so far just for this Mission but this isn't the reason i'm writing down this review. It's probably the fact that it's nothing like Necrovision 1 The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice story line and weapons like the first. Too bad God mode was necessary for the final battle. Otherwise action packed game.

neutral · AI labelView post →Corny and cheesy in all the best ways. It's a bit of a janky game, but its completely playable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played and beat the first game, and i like it, an lot, then i heard about this prequel thinking it was also an nice game i was wrong, this garberg should be ILLEGAL to sell, bugged to an point to not be playables, such as, script erros as on the DAMN TANK LEVEL,graphics that look ♥♥♥♥, and you can do nothing, since it will CRASH the DAMN GAME, terrbile gameplay WORST THAN ORIGINAL and all other ♥♥♥♥ i could say it and worst, you will paying way more than the original game to have an buggy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A condensed version of the original game. The perfect dose of frenetic action. A little janky but nothing that ruins the enjoyment. Great bosses and cool new enemies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tooooo short .....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6.5/10 While still flawed, its a solid improvement over the original. Unlike the first game, it stays in world war 1, up until the last 2 levels, the last of which is just a boss fight. So if you were baited into the original by the wolfenstein in ww1 setting, this game will actually give you that. Better yet, while the main charater will run his yap during story sequences, he doesn't constantly quip like Simon did. The writing is still pretty cheesy though. Also had less game breaking bugs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While noticeably shorter than the original NecroVisioN (acting more like an expansion than a full-fledged prequel/sequel), NecroVisioN: Lost Company sheds more light on how Jonas Zimmerman, the secondary antagonist of the original game, rose to power. The things to praise are consistently good writing (reflected mostly in the letters and worldbuilding/lore behind the game) and tightened gameplay (better weapon response, ability to throw bayonets and shovels, more grenade types, better paced…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →♥♥♥♥ wont run, i got high end pc so no itss not hardware, ♥♥♥♥ 1C and their crappy titles, how is this even on steam when it doesnt work...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are other better shooters of this era to play before you make it to Necrovision. Also is a bit janky being an older PC game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school killing spree. Just don't think and shoot everything in sight. It gets job done when you're bored or just pissed off. Don't overthink it just buy on sale and annihilate monsters!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The charms of the first game quickly fade in this prequel. The absurdity of the first games story was great, but a prequel with all the surprises ruined makes you focus on the bad things you might have ignored previously. Poor level design, reused bosses and levels, reused weapons. a combo system that is lackluster and enemies that take far too long to kill until the last 2 levels of the game. I cautiously recommend the original Necrovision. And genuinely advise you to skip this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →24. Necrovision probably free distribution game and no idea what is this game about.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's just like NecroVisioN, but this time you also get some redundant levels with tanks and planes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than the first, in only that it is shorter and doesn't drag on where the original did. Worth it for an afternoon. Definitely a little jank but good enough for 5 hrs. Mission 6 is a bit bugged, taking any damage seems to blackscreen the game so just activate godmode for that level or just do a no hit run.
