What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 214 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,745 of 2,468 positive).
Some reviewers note that early access has improved significantly through updates and community feedback. [1][2][3] A few players warn that bugs and balance issues persist, especially in multiplayer. [4][5][6]

The game is super fun. But every update keeps adding more and more bugs, while all the old ones go unfixed. It has gotten to the point the game is starting to become near unplayable, via death by a thousnd cuts. Save your money, until we're shown the game isn't going to just get worse. Please devs, new content is great, but we can't play it if the game is broken. I'll write a positive review once it's in an …

Really Quick: This game doesnt deserve such a Bad rating. It is exactly what it promises, a continuation of Neon Abyss 1. It has the same vibe and look to it, but it feels more in depth with more Mechanics to the players disposal. The controls feel on point and the Gameplay is fun and not repetitve. (yes i got only 1.7h on record when writing, but i promise i know what im speaking of. I just dont have that much time …

Verdict: A better version of Neon Abyss 1 in every regard. It needs some balance changes, but besides that, I can recommend it without any issues. + Positives + + 9 Different agents, each with a unique passive and starting kit + 4 difficulty levels + Tons of run modifiers (22 blessings, 18 misfortunes, 8 sufferings) + Huge number of bosses (28, each with easy and hard variant) + A lot of main bosses (Managers) – 11 …

great game overall apart from a few things the combat, and bosses are really entertaining aswell as all the changes from the original only complaint is the multiplayer is bad it needs proper peer 2 peer instead of routing though a server makes games from aus to aus play on 300 ping with constant desyncs and dissconnects

This is a good example of Early Access done right. It had a rough start, but with community feedback it has become so much better. I haven't tested the multiplayer, but everything else is really smooth so far. With the Archenemy Returns DLC, it feels like an upgraded version of the first game. I for one can't wait to see what else gets added.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They made a co-op Neon Abyss and then made it to where only the host can unlock things, including characters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing Sequel: Fun Concept Ruined by Bad Design and Endless Bugs TL;DR: The game has the potential to be super fun, but right now it’s just a downgrade from the first one. It features a sterile UI, watered-down mechanics, and every new update introduces more bugs while leaving the old ones unfixed. It is currently reaching a near-unplayable state. Don't buy it yet—stick to the first game for now. Key Issues & Mechanics Downgrades Underwhelming Weapons & Broken RNG: There are about 7…

neutral · AI labelView post →Some attacks are either borderline unreadable or completely unreadable, my most recent example is trojan, his spikes are impossible to dodge unlike other roughlikes where you can just dodge out the way. i played the first neon abyss and is was amazing, one of my favorite rougelikes but this is a huge step down. nothing like the first game other than art style, and even here that isnt done well.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does not deserve the hate it gets rn. Mixed reviews is just insane. A very fun and chaotic roguelite, that is being heavily worked on with more old and new bosses being added left and right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can’t even be bothered to explain what’s wrong. The girls who know me already get it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly integrated co-op systems, its a peer-2-peer system which routes you through a server in Asia / Europe / America introducing additional latency if you live nowhere near the servers making desyncs common and generally the combat gameplay lackluster at best, it really needs true peer-2-peer connection.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the hell out of the original game, and while this is quite different, there are things I like and things I don't, a few named here. Like: - Combat is smooth - Synergies and builds are just as chaotic and fun as in the original game - New boss and weapon designs are clean and really cool - Progression is as simple as it was in the original game Dislike: - Weapon buffing is weird and most weapons feel weak while others are incredibly powerful (it feels like an inverted…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was hesitant to get this game cause of all the mixed reviews but as someone else stated this game does not deserve all the hate. It is phenomenal! I have been having some of the best coop fun ever with friends. It is clear these developers love their game as the quality in every aspect is super high. Things I love: - The Art Direction: Beautiful vibrant colours with gorgeous scenes, rooms and characters. - Music & audio: Holy jesus the music is stunning! The sound effects are crisp and clear…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you loved the first game just stick with that one ..i was excited for this, the first neon abyss is one of my favorite games i own it on xbox steam and switch.. i assume this would be a better version maybe some new characters new levels and power ups that’s all it needed but no ..you never get good weapons ,the correct resources are never around ,and the creatures take waaaay longer to kill but do more complex attacks ..idk the coolest part of the first one was seeing how many crazy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neon Abyss 2 is a solid game on the Steam Deck so far, so I asked the developer a couple of questions about how they supported the #SteamDeck during development: steamdeckhq.com/neon-abyss-2...
positive · AI labelView post →It's a fun game, but they took out the chat feature so it's no longer possible to make sexy online girlfriends via the in game chat, which is a huge tragedy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Free Weekend solo player review. Mixed feelings overall. I can’t really recommend this game. I played 3 hours, not very long but I unlocked James. I unlocked the fishing spot, the basketball room, the dance room. The biggest issue for me is the progression. All the resources I collected during a run, whether I succeeded or failed, were gone when the run ended. I only got 0–4 talent points to unlock a few minor things. Every run starts completely fresh, I have to upgrade weapons from zero.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the MAIN SCREEN of the game shouldnt use 98% of my gpu. even with a above average pc it just eats my gpu, and theres no settings to turn down
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont listen to the slander, this sequel is fire, and coop is banging.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is so much better than the first one ( this comes from a player who played Neon Abyss 1 for more than 20 hours on epic games launcher ). Every weapon now has its own ability and the vaporize feature was such a good idea, because now you'll no longer feel offended after letting a good weapon on the ground. The only problem I have is, that keys are sooo hard to find and that's a big problem, because most of the chests and treasure doors need keys to be opened. I don't know if this is how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sequels don’t need to be revolutionary, and that’s the case with Neon Abyss 2. This game keeps the fun and chaos of the original, with some small improvements that make the experience even better. I can’t wait to discover the new Hatchmon and crazy weapons. #indiegame #indiedev #demo

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've gotta write a positive review to try and balance out the negative because this game is GOOD. Is it something entirely innovative and separate to the first game? No, but it does an incredible job of building and developing on it - I've played a bunch of the first game, and 2 still feels fresh. Can't wait to see what they do with it moving forward
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played NA1. Always fun to play this game. It is a HUGE improvement to the first game. A lot of guns and cyberpunkish style and music. Great fast paced roguelike with a lot of funny mechanics. Multiplayer also is the cherry on top. Will continue to play it !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this game. After 20 minutes, I faced a bug where I couldn't leave the room (all ennemies are dead) and had to re-start the run, only to face the same issue again. WTF are the devs doing? I have never seen such game-breaking bugs so blatant that are still not fixed after 7+ months of release

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You are FORCED to agree to the TOS if you want to play the game at all now. I hate when companies do this. I pre-ordered this a while back and have over 3h played in the pre- 1.0 release - so doubt I can get a refund at this point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think that it has gotten better over time, and it seems they are listening to feedback and continuing on making improvements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the first Neon Abyss for many hours and enjoyed it quite a bit. The second one is still in production, but it is already a pretty cohesive game. It is very similar to the first game, but with new items/weapons/characters/etc. The graphics are a bit more polished and bosses seem a bit tougher on the new one. I have yet to encounter any bugs. If you liked number 1, you will probably like number 2. The movement and general polish seem better to me. I don't think this game deserves mixed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you played the first one, this is it but with a lot more content! If you didn't, it's a good rougelike!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was okay at launch, and then they changed stuff and it became a much worse game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick reset for 20min ich and wasn't getting a single bomb artifact from both the store and the artifact room. Only getting bloddy wisp and hatchepokemon shi + you can't see what element the weapon is anymore which just brings even more frustration. This game is a downhill

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, had played when first early access or maybe right before during free beta test, then after last free weekend maybe 3 weeks back bought it. they really have done great with this. loved the first one and think this one is much better. plus online multiplayer. They Have put in some work over last year. glad had free weekend again or think i would have not tried again because seemed quite choppy i guess over a year back during a beta test. Know is way early in early access but super…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the aesthetic of the game and the way it feels to play. Although, the first one will always have a special place in my heart.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is genuinely so fun you will die but learn and unlock so much along the way i loved and 100% the first game and kept playing until i realized the second came out I cant wait to 100% this one please give me more recommendations like this and the binding of isaac plssss
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game it is still being updated but if you loved neon abyss 1 you will probably like this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many items, guns, enemies and combos its a lot of fun. I would recommend just playing it on hard mode for most players familiar with the genre as medium was just too easy. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an fanatic of the first game I had high hopes for this sequel and I have to admit that it has delivered. There is a lot to see improved here in Neon Abyss 2 and a lot of things have been improved or upgraded in a big way, The new faith system is one of the highlights. However I believe that some systems have been made slightly worse, notably the hatchimon system. Previously you would get a hatchimon and it would have a unique ability, meaning you could get crazy builds by floor 2-3. Now,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great if you liked the first one. It's one of those sequels where not much has changed, but it has invalidated the first game. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a twin-stick platformer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my friend Paul is gonna get this game to play with me if he ever wants to see his kids again
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is still in early access, however what they have out so far is amazing. I loved the first game so much and this one just as much if not more. They took everything from the first game and added to it, the faith system so much better now that you get more options and the weapon system fantastc. I'm really curious to see what else is added as the game is devolped, all i know is I will contine to play this cause its so damn fun aha
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought DLC I didn't need for Neon Abyss 2 because I felt guilty for getting the game for free and wanted to give them something for entertaining me. On the one hand, I wish I had less guilt. On the other, I wish other people had more...?
positive · AI labelView post →game is neat, came back after 1.0 release sadly I saw me and some friends missed out on getting free dlc despite buying during early access
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, so in general. It's a fun game. However, there are some substantial balance issues present. Even on the hardest difficulty, it's far too easy to become brokenly OP. Basically just going the Faith of the Forge is a guaranteed win if you get past the first floor. The scaling just doesn't make sense and most of the time you're not gonna see most of the bosses abilities. Heck most of the time you're not gonna see the bosses for more than 1-2 seconds period. A few other nits: *…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is simply way too easy. The game has so many events that you can easily spend the majority of the run on such as fishing, gambling, and faiths (basically this games version of devil or angel deals). The problem is these events can go on for a ridiculous amount of time or sometimes forever. A fishing room almost guarantees you could spend forever fishing up more items and getting the coins you spend on fishing back, giving you a broken build with zero effort. Gambling is a slog and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played the closed playtest for 20+ hours I played the closed playtest of this game for over 20 hours Decided to buy the game now recently and I can definitely see massive improvements in this game now The dev actually listened to the feedback and it shows. If you are new to the game or you are a OG from the first game, the game is easy to pick up. Ofc as a more experience player you might recognise some artefacts, items and guns, but the game explains everything about stuff you pick up…
