This game may have been good in its day, but in 2026 it is pretty poor. I have been gaming since the late 80's and have played many a space strategy game, including all of the Homeworld Series, the Star Trek Armada's, the Battlefleet Gothic's, Eve Online - etc etc. I had not tried this game, but thought being an old-schooler like I am I would give it a go, and I would have requested a refund if I had not bought the …

One of those games that, despite being 20 years old, does many things better than today's games. It's not just that it has a tactical complexity that could easily make this the father of any current tactical space combat game; it's its attention to the smallest details that makes it special. Even something "secondary" like the briefing phase before each mission is incredibly detailed and original, but there are …

84% of the 179 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Nexus - The Jupiter Incident. The complaint that keeps coming up: clunky and poorly explained controls. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

The game received "generally favorable reviews" according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. It was praised particularly for its visual effects, but criticized for its steep learning curve, trial-and-error gameplay, and poorly designed stealth missions. According to NPD Group, Nexus sold 11,500 copies by June 2005.

The graphics may be a little old compared to Battlefleet Gothic Armada, but are still better than even homeworld remastered in my opinion. The single player campaign is probably the best story campaign Ive ever played in a spaceship game. Homeworld was a little disappointing compared to the hype, but Nexus: the Jupiter Incident hit it out of the park. I mean its no Warcraft 3 or Starcraft, but compared to the almost storyless 4X conquest campaign of Battlefleet Gothic Armada, or the basic…

This game is older than many people who will read this review. I played it the year it launched - before I even had a steam account (idek if steam had a store then). I bought it on steam because I wanted to support the devs yet again, and also play it again. I have played and finishes it multiple times over more than a decade. I love this game. That's all I really need to tell you

What a gem. Requires patience if you mess up in a mission and some controls are never explained such as setting your own nav points. Although the story with great pacing, mission layouts that truly make you crave more and spectacular space battles truly make this game something special that nothing else out at the time of this review can really emulate. This is truly a one of a kind.

This is a total gem. Too bad they never made the Imperium Galactica sequel, but I'm glad they could reuse a lot of things, like the system maps for the mission plan cutscenes of this game. It's a 10/10 on par with Homeworld 1 or 2, but more in-detail scope on smaller wolfpacks of ships. You rarely have more than a dozen or so ships but can control them in much more detail than in Homeworld. I'd say compared to modern games it's a more forgiving Nebulous Fleet Command or the ship management…

So I originally bought this game when I was like 12-13? So nearly over two decades ago. Was freaking amazing. Me and my brother both loved it. Now that is out of the way I will say that the game is fun, has a good campaign with well balanced missions. It is a little dated, but holds up decently well. Considering I have seen it on sell(right now in fact) for only $0.99, it is a great steal.

Just watch a video of the game play this isn't a playable game where you can make choices and try new things. this is a game where there is one way to play each mission and to find out what that way is you have to fail the mission then go back and re pick your devices to counter each mission. it would be way better as a movie and not a game as 99% of the stuff you can chose from is absolutely useless.

I've heard quite a lot of good things about this game, but three hours in I'm not very hooked. The action can be described as glacial at best, which means that tactical depth that every seems to be raving about doesn't really get a chance to show itself. The most recent mission I completed had me disable the engines of an enemy ship and then got me to fight 3 shielded escort craft. It took a very, very long time for my ship to whittle away at their shields (despite my ship being equipped with…

This is a fantastic space combat game. I have been looking for a capital ship/3D sandbox style game for ages, seems I am 20 years late to the party but its still really good, nice immersive story, great ships and game-play, its the best thing out of its kind. I am eager for something new and similar but on a huge scale.

Good game. I typed a whole in-depth review out, but when I switched windows, Steam lost it, along with the hour or so of my life I gave to type it, so this is all you're getting now. Control scheme is wacky, but you'll get used to it. There is a MASSIVE bug that increases the difficulty of the game tremendously, the only way to fix it is to restart your campaign. The game is good enough to justify doing so, though. Create custom waypoints at your camera location with N + click. Try using…

Space battles. Yay. Negatives It feels like for a beginner it's hard to figure out what everything does. The best story driven space ship commander game ever made if you look at all different aspects combined together. It has decent graphics even by today's standards. It has real voice acting! The story is well written. You have some limited possibility between missions to alter the weapons and systems configuration of your ship or ships (some missions will give you command over up to 6 ships if I remember correctly). Navigation is not free roaming, but instead based on the predefined mission…

I'll be honest, at the start I wasn't feeling it much. The Ui is pretty overwhelming and a bit messy, the tutorial is all right, but could have been better. The overall combat is very trials and error and the story wasn't very interesting. But once the Space Opera part of the game starts and the hard sci fi is replaced with Soft-sci fi, it starts getting much better. (Look I love the Expanse and Hard Sci-fi, but I find alien ships, technology and grander plots far more interesting ). Once…

This is a game from way back, ahead of it's time now all caught up. All motion is relative within 3D space. Some old school camera navigation mechanics as the Z Axis takes a bit to get. Yet still solid game all around, and I'm sure there's a few Mods to up the graphics to some degree. However, even without mods the vanilla game is sill good. Some surprising ship models and lighting. This is one of those games where you're expected to roll back and change loadouts after failing-- and you will fail a lot. Janky as hell 2004 game, but I still rate it positively after picking it up cheap. The ships often feel unresponsive, like you're giving suggestions on what to do, rather than the more precise control of a fleet you have in homeworld. There is a "direct control" mode that helps a lot, but regardless if you tell a ship to go to a navpoint, it'll go to the approximate area of the point. There are also some times where you tell a ship to fire with a specific weapon at a specific vessel, then issue…

Nexus requires patience, and can be frustrating. There is much not explained in-game. You may need to do some research - read the manual, forums, guides, to learn enough to navigate the missions. And even then it wouldn't hurt to replay the missions to experiment and try different strategies. It may take time, there is a learning curve, but underneath is a neat space game to be appreciated.

First off, the premise is good, the graphics are pretty decent for the games age, the story is good, has a few funny moments, and make some sense. The variation of weapons is good, and of ship types. The combat looks very cinematic, with large capital ships trading lasers, missiles and energy blasts in space. So why do I not recommend? It's very frustrating, and many of the battles are a bit dull. It never really explains what you need before each battle, so if you go in missing a piece of…

Path finding is poor. Watching your ships rotate themselves out of being able to fire, watching the enemy shields pop back up meaning another few minutes of beating on the same ship, having nothing much to do while waiting for combat, none of it is fun. I look at the positive reviews and get a little sad. I don't see the same fun others seem to. It's not strategic. It's not tactical. It's just slow.
