What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 253 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (11,937 of 18,090 positive).
Players praise the game's unique Victorian aesthetic and world design. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the halted development and lack of future updates. [4][5][6] Some players find the game empty and repetitive despite its potential. [7][8][3]

A Survival Game That Dares to Be Different I’ve played Nightingale extensively, and it’s honestly one of the most unique survival games out there. The combat is a blast — firearms feel powerful, and hunting down the right materials to craft an overpowered gun is incredibly satisfying. I do miss the older crafting system where resources had deeper stats and colors tied to materials, which let you create truly unique …

I'm only about 20 hours in, but some of these negative reviews seem a little...unfair. So, I wanted to leave some thoughts for prospective players: 1.) The game is gorgeous. Coming off of a fresh play of Lies of P, the whole gaspunk style is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. You FEEL like you've stepped into this magical faery world. Sunkissed vistas, waterfalls, fantastical wildlife, statues from lost civilizations. I have about …

Its just not there. The world looks great. Building isnt the best but also not the worse. What did it for me was the emptiness of the worlds. Map size isnt bad but when so many quests are straight up fetch quests that send you across map multiple time its boring. Summarised from 34 of the 326 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
45% of the 253 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Nightingale. The complaint that keeps coming up: development is indefinitely postponed. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Rock Paper Shotgun compared the unconventional setting to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and said they enjoyed getting lost in the world and exploring. However, the interesting world made the traditional survival elements seem banal. They suggested the early access development focus on making the survival gameplay as interesting as the world and improve the user interface. PC Gamer said they were eager to return to Nightingale after its launch to discover more about the story and explore the world. Although they said software bugs were probably going to be a problem during early access, they said nothing in particular bothered them during their gameplay. Although they found the early game…

I have been playing off and on since day one early access and even managed to get in on a beta test., Back them you could play with friends etc and were not compelled to be in the same realm. One could be at home base building , another could be in a forest realm and a couple of others could be working together in another realm. Now however and the reason I can not recommend this game... It was build to be co operative…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, they just showed why NO one should ever buy anything in Early Access again. The studio behind this game, moved onto Conan Exiles, upgrading to Unreal Engine. I'm so fed up with studio's promising everything, and once they have the money, they then just move on, not caring the slightest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nightingale was personally my most anticipated game for 2024, with more than 120 hours gametime. Unfortunately, it never lived up to the hype or balanced the basics well enough to deliver the engaging, immersive experience many of us hoped for. I waited a long time before writing a final comment because I truly believe the game has the bones to be great - but I no longer think it will develop further in the right direction. Worldbuilding & Visuals This is one of the most beautiful, yet hollow,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It had real potential, but it’s now clear it’s never going to become what it needs to be. The developers are not putting in the work to fix the core problems and have clearly moved on to other projects. Don’t be fooled by recent updates—they address none of the issues that actually matter. This has been the pattern throughout the entire development cycle: ignore player feedback, push updates nobody asked for, and leave the real problems untouched. Case in point: they…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Per the most recent devbite video, development is indefinitely postponed. If you want a complete game, this is not it and will NOT be it for the foreseeable future. But if you go in knowing it's in "early access", story is incomplete, and the game will not see any continued development until *shrug*, it's worth it on sale as a sandbox.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game, i saw there was a update so i figured i would play it again and was excited. Just found out they removed the multiplayer aspect from it. Used to be able to goto The Watch "the hub" and join other players in boss fights and interact with other players, show off your gear. Now that they removed it i lost all will to play it. Slow updates, no plan to 1.0, moving backwards, sad to see. Update... Finished Night City, map feels rushed and nothing very special about…

neutral · AI labelView post →I was loving this game, made clear by playing it for over 100 hours. That being said, development is indefinitely postponed, and the game hasn't hit it's full release. I'm of the mind that continuing to sell the game at its full $30 with little likelihood of a full release isn't cool or worth it. There should be at least a large disclaimer that development is halted on the main page.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since the day I found out about this game, there's been an ongoing review bombing that's unfair to the dev team and the game itself; so I'll give you an actually fair summary of what to expect when playing through Nightingale. First things first, this game is a survival crafting game where you're casted out into the Fae Realms, alternative dimensions where you can feel the magic sparkling in the air. You will be able to create your very own houses wherever you please with a blueprint based…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm deeply dissapointed that they decided to put this game on the back burner, it has a very good foundation to become a great game but after I heard that they were shifting thier resources towards Conan Exhiles remastered and basically didn't say anything about this for the last year.. then proceeded to not answer many questions that were raised after they let go both of thier community managers. I started to get that feeling when they were focusing on being able to colorise your clothing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a great game, but i cant recommend it until the devs decide its time to work on it again. The game wont load a save without crashing. Its even caused my pc to crash 😭 so id suggest waiting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs abandoned this game in the wrong state... I don't mind "abandoned games" if the devs do the following things first (before abandoning the game). Its sad that this beautifully-made game had to be abandoned for Conan Exiles (the devs were hired to work on Conan) 1. Optimize the game and try to make it playable on mid-spec or low-end PCs. - Given what the game is, I feel that the devs should have found a way to lower the specs needed to play it. Nobody buys a high-end PC in order to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the game originally when it first release and since then they did a FULL character wipe, that means 139 hours of work just gone put into the game. Apparently they have stopped development for the time being as well on the game for the time being so who knows if they will continue it or what will happen. But for now maybe consider it abandoned. I was thinking of returning to this game actually but after seeing all progress wiped it just totally turned me off from playing it.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In theory, I love this game. The setting is fantastic, the lore is deep, and it's the right amount of whimsy for the theme. That said, I physically cannot play it on anything but even the lowest settings. It's probably the most poorly optimized game I have ever played in my life. Whenever I go between realms it's a coin toss if the game crashes everything. I don't mean just crashing itself but crashing so hard I need to reboot my whole computer. I really do want to enjoy this game but it is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has some the worst performance known to mankind. Running this on an Ryzen 7 9800x3d and an RTX 5080 I have anywhere between 13-50 1% FPS with the settings set to anything. I can sometimes get it to run flawlessly at 80fps 1%lows with balanced and DLSS, but this requires everytime you want to play the game you must reinstall the graphics drivers. I have no other issues on any other games outside of this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a masterpiece in the making, I've never seen anything quite like it before or since. I loved the Fae aspects to it (and the fact that they kept to relatively accurate fae lore). The graphics are stunning, the gameplay is difficult but fun once you get used to it and the realms are gorgeous and interesting. It had SO much potential to be a fantastic game that I personally would've come back to over and over again. I'd even introduced it to all of my friends so I could play it…

I picked this up for $6 because I had heard relatively mixed things from the internet so i knew I wanted to try it because I loved Ark and love Fantasy esk genres, but I was not willing to spend on something was questionable. neutral · AI labelView post →Was a fantastic concept until they put it on the backburner for Conan Exiles Remastered... dafuq? Waste of money at full price in its current state. If you've played a lot of games: This game is the answer to the question 'What if Vermintide was more like a cross between Oblivion and Ark Survival Evolved?' positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's such an odd game. Like I want to like it because the world building is super interesting but as me and the wife explored it turned into less enjoying the scenery and more trying to figure out how to level up the gear to be able to get resources. In the end we just ended up not liking it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was genuinely really good and the devs kept changing things against what the player base wanted. The way they spoke in the devlogs about making changed based on what their player base wanted was worded in way where you can see they were very resentful about it and soon after they abandon the game in early access. Yet another company that will never see a dime from me. Had some great bones for a game and through their own arrogance thinking they know better than everyone funding their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the vibes alone I would recommend this game, but I do have a more nuanced perspective. If I was a man without hope I would leave a negative review and say something like "this game will never be finished." I can certainly understand why people do. Though, to me, it seems as though, although slow, this game is being updated and changed for the better. It is certainly not completed, it's in early access for a reason. Yes, it does have performance issues for a slew of people. Fortunately, I…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game had so much promise, the devs seemed to really want to make a genuinely good game by the way they handled the launch. The original version of Nightingale wasn't very fun or intuitive to play but the devs have basically made a completely different game from where it was to where it is now. Unfortunately, there's a lot of friction against your progress in this game. Everything is extremely grindy and it gets old fast. Pair that with the fact the devs made exactly one post this year,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hope the dev's return to this game, I truly hate seeing great potential game's just be left in a barren state. You now have to pay for a server, even to just play in multiplayer: Can't really recommend a game that isn't flushed out enough, given the price. I'd rather play a free to play game at that point, like warframe. The grind is pretty similiar, given how rare some creatures bone's, fiber and meat's are. But i'm not seeing the same payout in terms of longevity and time invested.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the Free weekend, also got product free on Epic. This game once had the ability to simply join a friends game similar to a steam invite. They have now decided that you have to port forward a local server like its 1997 (or pay with real cash for a server). The more steps you add to a process, degrades the enjoyment tenfold the effort. I'm honestly appalled by this decision.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been playing Nightingale and I don’t know… I really wanted to like it more than I actually do. At first, it looks amazing. The whole vibe is super unique and the world feels different from most survival games, which got me excited. But after a while, it just started to feel kind of boring. I kept doing the same things over and over—collecting stuff, crafting, repeat—and it didn’t really feel rewarding. Exploring should be the fun part, but a lot of the time it just feels empty, like…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game starts out interesting but is hollow with just enough shell to make people spend tens of hours before they realize the trap they've stepped into. Side quests are repetitive, the game has an abrupt ending that leaves you, the MC, unhappy and the Main Quest remains unresolved. It's like the whole writing team was fired and the Devs just stitched what they had together, and threw a final boss at you. Game of Thrones level of garbage ending that doesn't match the rest of the story. I'd…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good idea with decent bones that was never realized, and is now abandoned. The building is pretty at first, but deceptively shallow and deeply frustrating to work with. Farming was very micro and labour intensive, but also neccesary. All of the interesting and good ideas ended up being non-impactful or kind of frustrating. The card system seemed cool, but it ended up just being something to keep track of, not something cool to have fun messing with. Going to different worlds sounded…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nightingale is an example of what is so very wrong with the videogame industry. I find Nightingale to be unique in the artistic style, the story developments, and the cooperative play. Unfortunately, the game has not been given any proper support since it was released. The "Bug Report" tools do not even exist and the game does have critical game play bugs. Updates happen but nothing of any significance or value is changed in any update. It’s a top-tier visually, has deep crafting, compelling setting, and a story that’s actually good, which is rare for genre. Early Access was rough, but at this point game is polished and balanced.
