neutral · AI labelView post →A LOZ: Wind Waker copy with considerably less functionality and polish. I learned that this was originally a mobile game when I was nearly done with it and it makes sense. Playing it on PC shows the stark difference between expectations for mobile and console/PC games, where I would be impressed if I had played it on mobile, but on PC I feel like I wasted 20 hrs of my life.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bro, this game sucks. I mean, I forgot to talk to one NPC, and now I can't find the final sword. Without that weapon, I can't beat the final boss. I've tried everything, and nothing works. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looked like it would be fun, and I waited ages until it was playable in Proton. And then.... I am bored to death after about an hour of playing it. Everything about It feels clunky for some reason. Maybe if I hadn't played much better games like this already 30 years ago I would like it more. Now I can't justify spending my time on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game and it is really cool, but unfortunately, the map is just too convoluted to be able to find your way forward. Probably missing one little corner tucked away behind another 3d feature someplace but that's meant I've wandered in circles for the last 3 hours of my play trying to find the path to the next part of the game. Unfortunately...just can't recommend it out of sheer aggravation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not recommend Oceanhorn for PC. Is it a good game? No. Is it a bad game? No. It's just boring and average. You should play more fun games instead. The game is practically a copy of Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (for DS). However, the time mechanics have been removed. Also meaningful quests, challenging puzzles and good fighting mechanics. When you start the game, it feels charming and you're intrigued. But the game never delivers more. The longer you play, the more it feels like any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It had sat in my backlog for years and I finally got around to playing it. 5hrs in at the moment and it is a very lackluster Zelda clone. It has all the basics you'd expect in a Zelda game (sword, shield, bow, bombs, coins, hearts, simple combat, charge up whirl attack, NPCs, etc), but it the story, voice acting, and pacing are all subpar. The fact that I was lead to believe I'd be able to navigate to islands like in Wind Waker but in fact it's just an on-rails shooter (after you get the boat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 zelda clone. Boss fights arent great. Mind you any reason I spawn with half hearts after dying? So everytime I die I have to scrounge for hearts in pots that barely drop just to try the fight again. Nothing super unique in the game. Not really challenging either. Otherwise its fun exploring and a decent game to play for the length it is. It shines in some ways while others dont. I think the world could have been more open/less linear and more exploring in any order.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I had known this was a port of a mobile game, I would've avoided it. While it's not a bad game exactly... It's like an attempt to make a game like Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, but for iOS devices circa 2012. This game is extremely simplistic. Unlike Zelda games, you don't really get any items or gadgets that give you new ways to interact with the world. You get one: a pair of boots that let you hop over small gaps and dodge roll... at the cost of stamina. You do get magic, but aside from…

Controls are a little limiting, I believe this originally was a mobile game. I still enjoyed my time with it. #GamesIBeatIn2024 #Oceanhorn
neutral · AI labelView post →I was enjoying the game until I encountered [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/339200/discussions/0/4343239199135566553/]a game-breaking bug that made one of the puzzles unsolvable, which clearly demonstrates a lack of playtesting. Normally this wouldn't be too terrible, I'd just reload a previous save, but I can't because this game only has autosaving! That means that if I want to complete the dungeon I'd have to replay the last 10 hours of content! Needless to say, I'm incredibly annoyed,…

neutral · AI labelView post →Bit of an odd duck. It's a port of a mobile game; there's no hiding that fact. The visual style of Oceanhorn strikes me as a sequence of concessions that were made to suit a simpler platform. More realistic NPC modelling is an odd juxtaposition against a world made of cube-shaped land chunks. None of this is bad; it's something you acclimate to, and it suits the isometric grid formula for integrating puzzles. Level and island design is spacious with plenty of secrets to find, but this is…

As you may know, I also mod the Nintendo community, and post these there weekly, so my description will pretty much be a copy / paste of that, but this doesn't mean the thread will get any less love. It's just that there is no point in writing same thing in two different ways, just to make it look different. Though, where applicable, I'll change the game links to PS store instead of Nintendo…
neutral · AI labelView post →43% of players got the "Beat the first boss" achievement. That says a lot, dunnit? The art style is fantastic. Everything in Oceanhorn looks like it should be a fun game. It just isn't. Oceanhorn is the video game version of elevator music, it lacks soul.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soft thumb down. Not a bad Zelda like with nice presentation and setting but few annoying finicky flaws tend to dampen the experience. -UI usability is not good, yes, I'm aware it was originally ported from mobile but more work could have been done. -Isometric perspective doesn't really work with this genre. Aiming or trying to throw objects in correct direction is rather janky. -Puzzles are pedestrian, it's just pushing blocks around to right spots and hitting switches. -Traversal feel too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have had Oceanhorn in my backlog for a couple of years and started it about three or four times, before finally committing to it earlier this year. Well, the commitment did not last. The graphics and atmosphere is charming and Zelda-like, but the progression and gameplay is anything but. My problems with the game after 2 hours and a handful of dungeons are: a) The player character has less stamina than a Call of Duty protagonist, only being able to "run" 10 steps and only in a straight…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little Zelda Clone Oceanhorn is actually a pretty decent adventure game that feels a lot like the older Zelda titles. It's fun, looks great, sounds even better, and has plenty of cute monsters to smack with a sword. The combat is fairly simple, but that's part of the charm. This isn't the kind of game that's trying to reinvent the genre. Instead, it focuses on delivering a fun and accessible adventure. If you're looking for an action-adventure RPG-ish game with a classic feel,…

neutral · AI labelView post →A bit of a disappointment. After seeing a lot of reviews and recommendations to play this as a good indie zelda-like game, I gave it a go. I found it all a bit to bland. The gameplay is ok, the puzzles aren't really puzzles, more like obstacles. I finished the story, I did nearly go for 100% along the way for the sake of it as it wasn't difficult to sweep through the islands collecting everything, but when I saw the end was near I just rushed through to get it over with.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cheap knock off of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Combat is clunky, camera movement is annoying, lots of annoying backtracking, overly simplistic puzzles and the list of average features goes on and on. I wasn't impressed. Maybe the sequel is better but I'll probably never end up playing it, probably.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for a game to scratch that "Legend of Zelda" itch, on your Steam Deck, then Oceanhorn may be a great fit. The game ran flawlessly on my Steam Deck. Even the soundtrack has a Nintendo vibe. If you catch it on sale, and like Zelda games, I recommend giving Oceanhorn a try. Overall, I think it took me around 12.5 hours to complete the story.

neutral · AI labelView post →The developer of Oceanhorn set out to make a Zelda-like game and all the elements are there. But it lacks polish and that really keeps it from being the excellent game it could have been. Design choices like having to hit the collectible red gems nearly 10 times in order to pick them up are illogical and never explained (I spent much of the game thinking I just couldn't do anything with them yet). Sailing from island to island can quickly become tedious. Sometimes your ability to jump down from…

neutral · AI labelView post →Why is this game so heavily recommended? Is it similar to zelda? Yes. But it's "we have zelda at home", similar. It's hardly a step above a mobile game tbh. The movement is clunky, combat is boring and one-dimensional, voice acting is terrible, puzzles are easy, traveling to islands is mind numbing. There's a lot of potential, but it's dragged down by lackluster gameplay that just feels sloppy/amateur.

neutral · AI labelView post →TLDR : it's mostly like Zelda 2D games and it's fun but it has many flaws and annoying things so don't expect a masterpiece. Similar to Wind Waker, the game is comprised of 2 types of gameplay : 1) when you're navigating the sea (the boat is piloted automatically, which is nice) 2) when you're on an island. You mostly accomplish things on the islands. The sea navigation part is kinda pointless other than being good for immersion (and good music). When you're on an island, the game is played…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oceanhorn earned a recommendation until the puzzle script broke at the third dungeon. That resulted in hours of wasting time trying other solutions, which resulted in getting out of bounds and restart. Additionally the backtracking and tell-not-show style of narrative killed any enthusiasm developed from the first half of the game. Had the narrative scripts not triggered instead of the puzzle scripts, this would a rough gem sort of recommendation.

positive · AI labelView post →Decent Zelda copy for Steam, still pretty cringe playing. Soundtrack is actually okay, combat is inferior, puzzles are somewhat decent. Kinda like the experience and leveling thingy, but it feels lackluster. Pretty short. The fishing is an abyssmal experience which I find 0 value in and can't for the life of me understand why they decided to force it into the game. Overall, it was enjoyable.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Large game studios have different inherent strengths than smaller game studios, unfortuntately I think much of the gaming world has forgotten this in the excitement about the collapse of competency in and enshittification of traditional video game companies "clearing the way" for indie game companies. I love indie games but some types of games can only be made by large predictable sort of boring game companies, I am mostly uninterested in those games but even I can recognize that they fulfill…
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is great, it feels and looks a little bit like Legend of Zelda. I didn't care so much about the story, but it was good. Music is excellent and the controls and combat feels good. As you progress you get stronger, you get more health and even couple of spells. The enemies get harder also and there's a lot of islands and secrets to discover. Boss fights are nice, they are pretty hard and they have different mechanics to defeat them. Finding every chest and collecting coins is fun and…

positive · AI labelView post →I love taking chances on buying these cheap games I've never heard of. Some of the most fun games I've played in the last couple years have been these random $2-5 impulse buys. Oceanhorn looks like their attempt at a Zelda game; and Zombie Vikings looks like the most ridiculous beat em up.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful fun game feels like a watered down clone of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Enjoyed story and music, I would recommend for those restricted to steam platform wanting to pretend to be Zelda for a couple of hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In 2 words "Visually jarring". There's something off with either the framerate, motion blur or camera movement. Something like that which makes it miserable to attempt to play. Turning off Vsync and antialiasing was no help, I even tried it on the Steamdeck and the same issue persisted.
