The game clearly takes a tone of inspiration from Nuclear Throne and tries to modernize it, but it has a few missteps along the way that keep it from being everything it can be and should be. Usually, I don't leave reviews for games, but this one's got some potential that it's not quite living up to yet, and I'd really like to see it get there. After a few hours of playing, I think the main issue the game faces is that it's a bullet hell with tons of (seemingly) unavoidable damage. This comes…

this game (Odinfall) is really fucking nice. Lots of weapons, attachments to change them, (mostly) cute graphics and it's really difficult. or i'm bad, which i wont rule out, but i would get sad if you implied that. cool game. heard ppl compare it to nuclear throne. never played it tho so idk.

Character level is capped at Lvl 15 (just enough to unlock one (1) out of four perk branches). In most games, this would be fine, but in this one, the perks are completely unimpactful. Here's a sample: * Dash cooldown reduced by 5% * Max ammo increased by 8 * Pickups last 1 second longer These aren't exciting choices. They're just minor stat tweaks. So limiting character level (and by extension, perk points) serves no real purpose, except to annoy the player and artificially gate progression.…

I'm gonna have to say that I have a somewhat mixed feeling overall on this game. On one hand, I love that "playing Nuclear Throne" feeling I am getting while playing, but at the same time, something just feels off. I have several gripes which are, ultimately, making me not enjoy this game overall. I'm having fun many times, but other times, I'm just annoyed or frustrated or straight up bemused. Let me clarify with some of my negative experiences: 1). The enemy AI is just completely and…

"Oh, look! Another projectile from off screen has appeared and killed me with AoE before I could move!" A very appealing game damaged by utterly terrible combat design. Enemies explode on death, leave behind traps that don't appear immediately, shoot from off screen, bounce damage around cover, so on. It's also got very poor meta progression. I don't know why games want you to get nothing from a run. It's one of many games that sucks you in and leaves you feeling disappointed when you die…

I really wanna love this game, but there are two things killing it for me right now: meta progression, and time to kill. Leveling up characters to unlock perks OUTSIDE of the individual runs just doesn't feel good to me. I feel like I'm cheating instead of just getting better at the game. I played through the first area (Fenrir) without touching the skills and I had a good time, but when I got to the second area (big snake), the tankier enemies made the levels feel like a slog, especially…

I've followed the development of Odinfall for a long time, and I'm very happy to say that it has surpassed my expectations by A LOT. Extremely satisfying gameplay with tons of variety, incredible music, and amazing artwork. I'm looking forward to seeing where the developers take it in the future.

Spent several hours with the demo for Odinfall a while ago, and the release version still comes across as a solid, fancied up Nuclear Throne, with a cute weapon upgrade system, where you add attachments to weapons that change their core stats (eg, adding "spread" to your axe will attack in three directions, but cost ammo or shot delay), and fairly typical metaprogression for characters as they level up (take note, if Nuclear Throne not having metaprogression was a feature). The action has a…

It's a bullet hell game with loads of different weapons and attachments to spend many hours trying out all kinds of weapon combinations and have fun with it. Why not make your shotgun fire a hundred pellets in a single shot or turn your dagger into a lifestealing breaker hammer? The game has lots of chaotic things to explore and a banging soundtrack and gameplay flow to go with it. No run is ever really the same and I'm here for it. I was a big fan of Nuclear Throne and I'm a big fan of…

It feels clunky and teared. Zero hints on weapons stats or mods, no inventory screen to inspect current build, no comparison when trying to choose out of two. You can't detach a specific mod, only by the order they were installed in a weapon. In its current state I would give it somewhere 6 out of 10.

One of the most slept-on recent action-roguelites on Steam. Yes, it's heartily beholden to Nuclear Throne, but NT is the godfather of the genre and not enough games that followed have given its appropriate honors. This one does, full stop. Since it's much newer than NT, Odinfall adds gobs of other systems, unlockables, meta-prog stuff, and a sharp style and goofy attitude. I've only cracked into the second area thus far, but I noticed that only 7.5% of the community has beaten Fenrir!? That's…

I purchased this after reading quite a few reviews saying that this was Nuclear throne but better. These people did not actually play Nuclear Throne very much. - The worst part of Nuclear Throne is when you die to Lil' Hunter. Every death in this game feels just like that. I don't die to to things I can see, I die to things that take me surprise by approaching from offscreen at incredible speeds. Also, a lot of enemies just have way too much hp in the early game. It is not fun to shoot enemies…

Great game! Love the visuals, weapons, upgrades, smoothness of the gameplay. But i can't recommend a game where you spend your time creating super nice builds and then you get constantly crashes without saving, i am more then willing to buy a game again if crashes are fixed, having a game like this with constant crashes is not worth it.

This is a game that knows exactly what it's trying to do! Everything from the music, sound effects, art style, to the gameplay and weapons just feels so right. The gameplay is punchy and quick. The weapons all feel unique. The mods change the way you play with each weapon and add run variety. I want to specifically shout out how good the soundtrack is in this game. on the current build this game is a step down from Nuclear Throne or Enter the Gungeon IMO. the game relies on RNG and not skill at all. You'll just have to get very lucky to even have a chance at normal difficulty and their is no rewarding mechanics to the game that could save you unless I'm missing something. Of the first three characters I almost maxed out the easiest to play on and their upgrade tree but that doesn't really help outside of a couple stats that you can raise that keep you…

Pure fun. Took a few hours to get used to since I'm pretty horrible at twin stick shooters, but after that break in period it became less frustrating. For anyone having trouble early on just stick with it and in no time you'll beat Odin. I really prefer having a good melee weapon and wait for some crazy good gun to come along. I've had Nuclear Throne on my wishlist for years and after this I'll probably finally purchase it. At 38% complete I feel that I've experienced what the game has to…

A good shooter game, but with notable flaws. In spirit and gameplay it is very similar to Nuclear Throne but with a lot of progression mechanics slapped on. Unfortunately, it is not as elegantly designed; in fact I'd go so far as to say it is pretty sloppily designed at points. Difficulty is in many ways uneven; its very easy to find yourself endlessly unloading peashooters into enemies with massive amounts of hp, and then at other points easily vaporizing an entire screens worth of Legendary…

I really wanted to like this game. Mostly the overlap it shares with Nuclear Throne is where is shines, the weapon system is a nice addition and the gunplay feels tight. However, I mostly feel the ways it builds off that core foundation doesn't add much value. The enemy design can be awful. In the second 'world', there's small enemies which continually fire projectiles in all directions, every half-second, and there can be five or so of them on the screen - not to mention you can be killed…

Right. Let’s get this out of the way first: yes, Odinfall is basically Nuclear Throne in a Viking helmet. And you know what? Good. Nuclear Throne is the godfather of this genre, and most of the games that came after it have treated it like the uncle nobody invites to Christmas. Odinfall actually sends a card. It pays its respects. It nicks a bit of the silverware, but it gives it back polished. Because it isn’t from 2015, it also piles on loads of extra stuff: systems, unlockables,…

It's early access so all this may change, but at the moment for various reasons just not feeling it. Enemies hitting you from offscreen seems really common - the camera feels VERY zoomed in. There are no iframes from taking damage which means something unexpected can knock you back into more damage and you go from 100-0 instantly. Melee and ammo weapons take up the same slots which means you sort of HAVE to keep one of each because it's way too possible to run out of ammo and be soft locked…

This game wears the Nuclear Throne heritage on its sleeve and is admitted to be a love letter to it. Which is why I bought it. It's slower, the enemies are spongier, everything and their dog will spit health out on death which I guess makes you as spongy as they are and all of it lacks the sound and animation punch of Nuclear Throne. That's not getting into the down time between levels on another game's world map, the dialogue and other things. I'm not going to say this is a bad game, but it…
