Developer Kinmoku

One Night Stand is a visual novel video game developed by Kinmoku. Players take the role of a man who wakes up from a drunken one-night stand beside a stranger and must piece together the events of the previous night. It was based on a free game Kinmoku wrote for a game jam at itch.io. One Night Stand was released for PC in 2016, and Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019. I read a lot of visual novels and specifically enjoy games like this one a lot, but One Night Stand didn't click with me. ONS is one of those VN games that can be beaten in about 5-10 minutes, but gives the player a lot of choices so multiple playthroughs are encouraged Sadly, I just felt like there wasn't much content and after 2-3 playthroughs, it felt like 85% was skipping stuff I'd seen before and 15% was new …

A common misconception about this game, for those who've not played it, is that it's sexual or romantic. That's not at all the case. It's about a man waking up in a mystery woman's bed and having absolutely no memory of the previous night. The man in question can choose to be an a$$hole, a creep, or a good/understanding person, given the situation he's in. To get to the best ending, the player has to make choices …

A cute and surprisingly touching game. I liked how the female seemed realistic, from her polite awkwardness to her reactions to the MC. The game really immerses you into such a situation and you quickly discover that it's harder than you would expect it to be. But that's the charm of this short little game--you stumble through it, just like you would in real life. The payoff, if you do things right, is rewarding …

Picked this up expecting a quick visual novel and ended up enjoying it more than I thought. The mystery of figuring out what happened the night before kept me curious, and the different choices gave me a reason to replay it a few times. It's short, simple, and doesn't try to be more than it needs to be. A nice little story game for an evening.

It is a pretty short visual novel where you wake up in some random girls bed and don't remember anything from last night. One play-through should be around 15-20 minutes. I enjoyed my time with it, but it does get a bit repetitive if you go for all the endings.

Critics, per Wikipedia

Emad Ahmed of the New Statesman wrote that One Night Stand takes a more realistic approach than similar games. Comparing it to other games that feature physical relationships, Ahmed cited it as an example of using dialogue to tell a story rather than as a gameplay mechanic used to reach a desired conclusion. Kill Screen wrote that the initial mystery – what happened the previous night – becomes less interesting than learning about the woman and trying to find a happy ending. At Hardcore Gamer, Derrick Bettis wrote, "One Night Stand feels more like a think piece than a proper game", as it does not introduce any unique insights but allows gamers to discuss their views on the topic. I should have played One Night Stand much sooner but I completely misjudged it by the title. I guess you can easily imagine my train of thought. I took it for some shallow game with primitive plot about close but short relationship with no strings attached. Actually it's much deeper but still quite entertaining. It's not about the process of hooking up but about its outcome. You play as a male character who wakes up in a bed with an unknown girl after drinking heavily. You don't remember…

The idea is brilliant and original, the artwork is downright fantastic, but the dialogue… Real people don't talk like that. The writing is straight up from lowest common denominator Japanese dating sims. Not only what the characters say is utterly unconvincing, but the thought processes of the protagonist are spoonfed even when they are obvious from context. Show, don't tell! Come on, writers of dialogue-centric games should be forced to read Stephen King or something. Also, the gameplay…

DO NOT BUY, this is not a game. It´s a demo that was launched once they figured out the game wasn´t going to be completed, at least that´s what it feels like. PROS -Nice art -Several mysteries CONS -90% of mysteries have no answer or storyline at all. -Most decisions don´t affect the outcome nor have any effect on the storyline AT ALL. -There are really 3 endings with variations. - Repetetive -After your first gameplay you´ll feel there is a lot to uncover, but soon you will realize that…

Basically… It’s fine. This is a Choices Matter / Visual Novel / light Exploration game. The graphics are nice. The music is irrelevant. The story is okay. No bugs or crashes. Overall, entertaining at first, later kind of a chore. The gameplay revolves around exploring the environment, finding clues, and having some conversations. You’ll get different endings each run—until you start getting the same ones repeatedly. With enough patience (or a guide), you can unlock most achievements. But to…

Even though this visual novel/point & click game was conceptually nice. I wouldn't buy it again. The game works great. There's a gallery with all collected endings. But it was pretty hard to find all the endings, only to find out there are no fulfilling ones except for some joke endings. You'll become friends at best. I didn't understand her at all. FYI, you're playing a dude. It doesn't state that anywhere in the description so I thought it was going to be vague about what gender your character is, but nah. It really could have left that open, which I would have preferred but w/e. I wish I liked this game more but the story was lacking. I had all these ideas in my head about what was going on, but there weren't really any questions to answer, despite the game giving you the impression that you had to solve some mystery.

One Night Stand is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school…

This game takes unexpected twists and turns that entirely depends on the wide variety of choices you make. We live a life and without knowing, we come across many people on the street or on an outing that could simply pass us in a instant unaware of our actions, with our memory sweeping by as well. I really like this game. It's short, but there's just something... "real" about it. The characters seem to have lifes and personalities outside of the morning it depicts and it generally feels like something that could definitely have happened in this way, like a window into the experiences of two actual people. Not the type of thing I usually enjoy, but I can definitely tell that a lot of love and effort went into this.

Quick and simple. It's more of a gateway for introspection and the greater discussions on the choices we make, the anxieties and confusion we face, and regulating boundaries. I think a lot of what you'll get out of this depends on the spectrum of your own experiences or a lack-thereof too. The basic art style and sound design is charming and kept me engaged. Very interesting Visual Novel. Nice combo of hand drawings and animations. It's simple, yet creative and thought-provoking. The idea is a "What would you do" situation after a one night stand. You are a guy who wakes up in a strange bed with a unknown girl next to you. You went bar-hopping last night, and drank so heavily that you don't remember anything. Things become even more awkward when you try to have a conversation with the girl, and she realizes you don't even know her name. The…

This is a beautiful little indy! I first played it on Playstation awhile back and am so happy to discover it here on Steam as well. The story is very basic. One Night Stand is a very entertaining interactive visual novel about well a one night stand and all the different out comes of waking up in a strangers bed and having no memory of what happened the night before. It can either end good or bad depending on your choices.

I am probably older than most of the people who will play this game. I have seen and lived in the real world. I have experienced many of these situations in my life. I can tell you for a fact all the outcomes come out all wrong. This must have been written by a jaded, ugly girl who has no context of the real world. Epic fail! And yeah... after only .6 hours of the game I have seen most of the outcomes. The game does not provide value equal to the costs.
