Overclocked received above-average reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Brett Todd of GameSpot favorably regarded the game's "deep, engaging story with lifelike characters and dialogue" but noted its nihilistic tone. IGN also noted the game's "haunting main theme... and gloom of rainy New York [which] adds an appropriate layer of anxiety to the experience." PC Gamer said, "Unless you're jonesing for an adventure game fix, your time's better spent rearranging your Netflix queue."

neutral · AI labelView post →I would class this as a well written game which is somewhere between a point and click adventure and interactive story. I would prefer it having more puzzles and fewer passive plot triggers (by that I mean walking to a particular location or talking to someone without good reason to make progress). Despite some gameplay issues, this is a really interesting and engaging story with some well thought out characters. It will provide a good 8-10 hours of entertainment. The premise is that you…

neutral · AI labelView post →Overclocked is a point and click adventure game from 2008, and a great example of how a good story cannot save a game. It has a decent, if predictable, plot and some excellent writing in spots. It even has an interesting stab at an achronological narrative. All of which is ruined by tedious, repetitive gameplay. I won't spend much time summarizing the plot to avoid spoilers, it builds logically on the hook given above. It's predictable but well done, and would probably have made a good movie…

positive · AI labelView post →different concept to other games like none ive played before. Im going to say I recommend this game but only just. theres only ONE major fault with this game and its this: theres no way of knowing what to do next. frustrating. you do various things like ringing your ex wife up on your mobile or your lawyer just to see if youve"triggered" something that will forward you in the game. besides this its a good game. its a good story you want to find out more . and I like how you play different…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game of this length, there really isn't that much to the story, but it really makes you work to see those small shreds of story. Even with a walkthrough to get past all the "puzzles", it's painfully slow. This is one of those old-school adventure games where most of your time will be spent listening to unskippable dialog, pixel hunting or trying random combinations of items. Anybody who has tried a Telltale Games adventure game, or anything as modern as Fahrenheit or Heavy Rain, will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a riveting story; I would say that the game play was minimal but in my opinion, this didn't detract. The characters were all believable and well rounded...they didn't seem like run of the mill game characters. That is, except for the female characters whose physical figures were totally ridiculous. In this respect, the age of the game shows . However, the voice acting was fantastic. The graphics were very good too; not just the incessant rain, but other details, such as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ugh. This is a technically-apt, dull German point and click adventure game with a nonsensical name. The protagonist is a disgraced shrink tasked to get five catatonic patients to talk. Eventually there's a conspiracy revelation that you can see wading towards you a mile away. The biggest unique trick in the game - getting into the minds of the patients - is playing back earlier pieces of conversation to advance with the patients. Unfortunately, it lacks finesse and quickly becomes repetitive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite what the screenshots shows, this game is not compatible with modern 16/9 ration screens. (720p, 1080p, 1440p etc) The image is distorded and flatened with two black bands up and down. Badly conceptualized because in 2008 16/9 screens were already a norm.

positive · AI labelView post →This is an pretty solid, above average point and click game that I think any fan of the genre will enjoy. It suffers from many of the same flaws games in this category face (awkward, blocky animations, clunky mechanics, and the story definitely grips you but kind of falls flat at the end), but nothing so horrible that I would say avoid it. It definitely introduced some interesting story telling devices and provided a solid challenge that outside of a few weird puzzles didn't have me running for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So why do we play these games? Point and click Adventures. Not for graphics, or intense gaming, but for a story, atmosphere, and puzzles. Sometimes you find a gem. This one however is a turd. No puzzles, poorly written story, bland uninterested voice actors, and your usual cast of scooby doo/scream characters. It's almost like one of those interactive novels, except for the occasional "ok, what exactly am i supposed to do now"? Most of which is "why wont my character go to sleep to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dub this game GASLIGHT SIMULATOR because it felt that all throughout the story, poor David was being gaslit by EVEREYONE! IN a story where youre a psychiatrist looking to help five patients discover what happened to him, your biggest challenge is figuring out why David even BOTHERS to stay! The graphics were fine for the time period, the music was okay, and the voice acting was subpar. The gameplay was okay, but it could have been better. But the story is THE worst part, even up to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's creepy, it's immersive, it's not crashing (too much). The characters are believable (considering most are mentally unstable), and the mafia/politicians/businessmen mix is so spot-on, I would think they made it politically correct for at least one country I have lived in  Honestly, the story has a good buildup, the mystery is solvable and it just flows nicely into the gameplay. It's one of those hidden treasures I have ignored for far too long obviously.

positive · AI labelView post →The game is not bad, but it has lots of shortcomings. You're able to call certain people only in certain areas, the animation is dull and slow, the interactions with some objects will never change throughout the entire game, some interactions are completely useless, you have to walk into a certiain room for a certain event elsewehre can happen... Characters have weird social behaviors(being held at gunpoint is a normal thing to them and not a big deal) The graphics are dull…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was good until the last chapter where the devs decided to make one of the puzzles very unfair (it involves an unintuitive keypad and guessing a word from a previous cutscene), which guarantees that most people will have to use a walktrough to proceed further. Is it so hard to make a game where the puzzles are doable without resorting to longplays or walktroughs? How many adventure games need to follow this stupid tradition? So after giving up and just watching the end on Youtube, I also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game, at the time of purchase (July-2022) has censored nudity despite the Steam screenshots advertising nudity. Since there's much better, or at least much newer, adventure games in this style to play (such as Quantic Dream games) censoring it takes away some of the reason(s) to actually purchase/play it. Having attempted to contact the publisher (Handy Games) via their Discord channel & receiving no response the game has been refunded due to what amounts to false advertising.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good story, but a very tedious game. The five-chapter main story is non-linear, so you'll have to piece it together as you progress and in-my-opinion; the story goes from being somewhat generic to throwing in bits of twists on some turns and the mediocre animations + voice acting does not help. The gameplay is almost non-existent, and the puzzles are very easy. It'll last around 6 to 8 hours tops. Most interesting aspect was how David's personal life disrupts his professional life, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't normally play point and click games but found a bundle of 15 games for like three dollars a year or two ago and picked this up. So for a few cents this game is definately worth it. Having your character walk around makes point and click games more enjoyable for me personally and I prefer them over the older Myst ones. The puzzles were logical and many had to do with what recordings to play to what patients in order to violate HIPAA-- and to unlock their memories which you then play as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im going to be honest : I never managed to even beat the game to find out the ending. A couple of things to know here : -Terrible voice acting. Id say its pretty damn hard to feel the characters when dialogues sound as half-assed as they do.I understand they might not have had the budget to hire better qualified actors but the ones they had certainly could do a better job. That combined with how poorly they are scripted and boring leaves a very poor impression right from the start of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow Slow Slow - this game is somewhat annoying to review on here as there is no midle ground, its either reccomend or don't and to be honest, after completing it i am a little unsure. The game it's self is quite good for the most part with an ok story and not too bad voice acting, that being said - it's very slow going and extremly repetative throughout, which in the end leaves you with so many unasnwered questions, makes you wonder why you just spent so much time clearing it. if you want a…

neutral · AI labelView post →David McNamara, a psychiatrist investigating five teenagers who were found traumatized and completely memory-less. His task is to piece together what happened and understand how they lost their memories. You really need a lot of concentration and a good memory. Trust me. The game doesn’t show what your next objective is, so you’re forced to rely entirely on conversations and your own instincts to figure out what to do next. Items you’ve already used or has no meaning will stay in your…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this in 2023, it really doesnt hold up and won't age well. Only reason to play through this is if you like psychological thriller/mysteries but even then.. everything in the game's implementation is painfully janky and the story... probably might have only been acceptable for a video game by early 2000's standards The only thing worth recommending here is a playthru for the story otherwise there are literally a billion better adventures out there if looking for a similar but "not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A neat little adventure game. The actual point and click aspects are quite barebones and the game falls into the trap where it is often hard to know what you need to do to advance the plot. But the plot is good, very good. It is a linear story so don't expect anything else but the story is good on many levels although the pacing can be a bit slot at times. I don't want to go into any spoilers but the main character is very interesting and both his personal story as well as the main mystery is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic style adventure game with a couple of interesting puzzles but you're really here for the story. A psychiatrist whose marriage is on the rocks, a detective with a chip on his shoulder, a gruff bartender and a snooty hotel clerk. The cast of characters make this a fun psychological drama dealing with tragedy both personal and global in scale. 10 hours to complete, has some classic game jankiness such as weird camera angles and hilariously bad line readings but overall a fun adventure…

Overclocked will primarily appeal to those who are fans of detective or thriller genre storylines. At its best Overclocked begins to feel reminiscent of Heavy Rain, 7even, or Zodiac, while never reaching the heights of any of those narratives. I was intrigued by…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs-up with a footnote: if Steam allowed for a numerical rating system, I'd give this game 6/10. Overclocked: A History of Violence is a point-and-click game in the 'film noir' style. Meaning that you find the rather mundane, every-day protagonist caught up (through no fault of his own) in a web of intrigue and danger. The setting is a mental institute, and the situation is five youngsters who were forcibly admitted after a violent episode. As it happens, the patients are often catatonic…

In contrast to The Moment of Silence, which I found to be worse than The Mystery of the Druids in nearly every way, Overclocked undoubtedly improves upon its predecessors in some key ways, although there are still some shortcomings that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The premise seemed interesting a first, but it ended up being very predictable so the plot was a flop. Plus the voice acting is super annoying and the point and click gameplay is pretty old school without many of the quality of life elements that one would expect from modern games in that genre. Overall, just not worth your time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overclocked: A History of Violence is a point-and-click mystery thriller, in which you play as a former US Army psychiatrist trying to find out what happened to 2 young women and 3 young men who were found walking the streets half-naked, prone to violence and without any memory of who they are or what happened to them. It is also one of those games that really makes me wish Steam had a neutral / recommended-on-sale / recommended-with-caveats option. It has its ups, it has its downs. Long story…
