What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 188 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (655 of 917 positive).
Players find the game fun but lacking an endgame or long-term goals. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game feels incomplete or abandoned by the developer. [4][5][6] Others appreciate the relaxing, simple city-building mechanics despite flaws. [7][8][9]

It is very basic city building game with no increasing difficulty, easily obtainable infinite resources, and a lot of unexplained mechanics. Can only recommend on steep discount and if you are looking for a chill game. Otherwise I would recommend going for Mars, Anno 1800 or any other game.

Unfortunately, I ultimately just can't recommend Oxygen in its current form, which is a problem because primary development of the game seems to be finished, despite the fact that as a gaming experience it's fundamentally incomplete. It first caught my attention when I played the demo, Oxygen: First Breath, and thought that it was an enjoyable little post-apocalyptic survival city builder which would be even more …

It's a mobile-quality clone of Frostpunk, but surprisingly addictive for such game. There are bugs and no long-term goals or means of completing the game so it's just an endless grind. However, it kept me entertained for 20 hours for $6 so I'm giving a thumbs up.

Boy do I have a lot of complaints about this game, but I can't wait to play it some more. It's a colony management game with quite a bit micromanagement - it's essential to survive in the game. The challenge of surviving harsh conditions, managing scarce resources that are about to run out, and trying to develop some better tech to make things just a little bit easier. One of the main mechanics is producing enough …

A decent game but with some flaws. I played 33 hours on normal and found that the game has no end (or a final goal), so I can say that there were 30 hours of play and 3 of boredom. A bit short (I researched all the areas, I have all the research upgrades). Yes, I can play the other maps too but... what's the point? The trade system is completely useless, it comes too late in the game, when it comes I already have …

neutral · AI labelView post →So a mom game isn't just a game about building, it's *specifically* about building environments with agents who might behave in unexpected ways and being prepared for the good or the bad. Mom games are Dwarf Fortress, Oxygen Not Included, RimWorld, even Impressions city-builders

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its easy to get into it. Thats pretty much it. Feels like a mobile game that you click and play and wait for something. Feels also very non-complete game, dev has more of them i see. For 1 year no updates, and developer seems to just makes new games without any updates just sells them and leaves them as it is,. Not worth, waste of time, there are better games.

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is almost good. The first 20 hours it's a nice relaxing city builder/survival game. But it has no win condition. The achievements are store so much of X and that's it. And it's very clear the developer has stop all updates and will not complete the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starting a new game in Oxygen Not Included, bc I'm running out of oxygen, running out of water, and I'm gonna be obliterated by an asteroid impact in 90 cycles and can't do fuck all about it. I play this game for fun, y'all.
positive · AI labelView post →The foundation of this game is great, but there's a lack of content and direction. I've only played it for 15 hours but have 25/26 achievements - and I don't really feel like playing it anymore. A campaign or a more story driven narrative would have made this game amazing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not bad. I've put a few hours into this. The game play is a little slow to start. I think the biggest problem is how much time I have to spend reassigning the people after they get sick. Rather than returning to the task they had been assigned, you have to go back to the buildings or the assignment UI on the left to reassign them. Wouldn't be a problem with a small community, but once you get into the hundreds, it becomes really annoying. Especially with those tasked to scavenge because…

I found none, which honestly might be the most exciting thing here. Price: I got it on a deep discount, and that helped soften everything that followed. Tutorials: Four tutorials that actually explain things well. Rare and appreciated. Audio controls: You can turn the music down. Or off. You will want to. Game speed: Pause button plus three…

neutral · AI labelView post →All in all, a good city builder that is destroyed by its increasing weather hazard system. Difficult weather. Wind (sickens anyone who doesn't have an O2 generator in their workplace), Drought (which kills water power, water and food creation in summer), and Frost (which is basically Drought, but in the winter). Initially, it's rare... but as time passes it becomes more and more frequent. By the time you get to year four or five, expect severe weather for 3/4 of the the season. You read…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I think this game has a strong foundation, it is one of the blandest experiences I ever encoutered. I am trying to 100% my game library and this one caught my eye cause the achievements are pretty straightforward. While, again, there is a good foundation the game overall is super bland. There is no story, no drive except ''just survive'', no end-game. Not even the occasional tasks are interesting as most of the time they are things you will do anyway. I want to like it, but the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strange mix of survival and management mechanics. If the game had some terraforming options, it could offer a deeper and more engaging experience. But as it stands, all you do is produce… and produce… with little else to break the monotony. There’s no real endgame—based on achievements, your only goal is to survive for 200 days. Environmental events aren’t challenging, just extremely annoying. For 4 euro in sale.. yeah if you have nothing to do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I started a run, built some buildings and I had people collecting stuff for building more stuff, and well the scavengers collected resources simple did not register with the game inventory, so it was basically game over. There is a reason why this game is constantly at a 90% sale on steam. It'll randomly break and end runs, thankfully this happened very early for me, so I can go and refund it now. For some random reason (probably my negative review more then likely) this developer is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simplest and shortest reason I've kept playing this game for so long; I like simple-ish city builders, like that I can play indefinitely because it has no endgame other than see how long you can survive. Longer explanation: It's not as hard as Banished imho, in Banished you have to think out ALL city projects and where resources come from and where they go to and why. In Oxygen, it's all about Energy Consumption vs Oxygen bubbles and making it so you can effectively expand indefinitely.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just not fun. Too many events make things feel much too on the rails. No point to a city builder where you can't do your own thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, Turquoise Revival Games released this incredibly buggy game, abandoned it and then released basically the same game but with penguins. Avoid anything Turquoise releases.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend. The Idea is neat but right from the beginning the game is incredible stressy, its permanent micromanagement of Pausing Unpausing and shifting workforces. I know this is typical for that kind of games but with the tools provided from the game it just wont get easier or more relaxed. i can recommend this for people which really wanna do a lot of stuff in a settlement builder.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Factorio and Oxygen Not Included, but I rarely have days to sink into a game anymore. I wanted something calmer I could pick up on a tablet for 15 minutes and still feel like I built something. So I made one. It's called Longdusk. #ScreenshotSaturday #indiedev
neutral · AI labelView post →It pains me to write a negative review for this. Core gameplay is very solid, akin to Frostpunk in terms of being perfect balance between suffering and "I'm somehow alive" on normal difficulty. The problem is everything else. Game becomes repetitive real fast: - researching is slow as hell (I got all achievements in 15h, but I'm only half-way through the research-tree and I can't bother with the rest) - graphics are washed out like with a sepia filter. It actually hurts to look at it after few…

neutral · AI labelView post →**🌬️ Oxygen – Survival, Strategy, and the Fight for Every Breath** *Oxygen* is a game that takes a simple idea—survival—and builds it into a tense, strategic experience where every decision matters. It’s not about flashy action or constant movement; it’s about managing resources, thinking ahead, and staying alive in an environment that doesn’t want you there. From the very beginning, the game establishes a strong sense of pressure. Oxygen isn’t just a resource—it’s *the* resource. Every…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn’t expect much from a game I got for such a low price, but somehow I still was disappointed. The game simply has no strong sides, it is just a bare-bones city builder with a long list of problems. There isn’t much content here. I managed to get all the achievements in 8 hours and 1 hour after that I had no things left to do. For a free city builder that number is a joke. It looks bad and sounds even worse. While I can get that graphics aren’t great (because it is a mandatory…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would give this game a 3.8 out of 5. It is fun to get more tech and manage your population, and the number of challenges make it enjoyable however it appears that the developers had no ideas for any end game. By week 11 I had all the tech, too many people and my storage sheds were overflowing with resources. I had so many wind turbines that when the toxic winds came, they generated enough power that my batteries were constantly at the maximum charge. I recommend playing the game as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is alright. I bought it on sale for 3.74. I think its worth at least that. I REALLY love the concept of having to produce oxygen and keeping trees alive to make bubbles of air. The tutorials were helpful but other then that there are zero goals. Just live. Metal and Plastic becomes tedious in obtaining near "end game" I thrive on goal oriented city builders, I found the achievements being those goals. There is NO campaign, no story to follow. Its just build and survive. For the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was hoping it would scratch the itch before Frostpunk 2 comes out (as it is so evidently influenced by the first), but instead it barely scratches the surface. No campaign to speak of, and not early enough content (disasters, exploration nor building variety) to keep sandbox interesting. My 17h of playtime were enough to reach that "what now?" point. 100% completion, no reason to even run most production buildings as stockpiles are overflowing. Buy only if deeply discounted.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm tired and sleepy so let's play something low energy and relaxing with Oxygen Not Included www.twitch.tv/pancookieplays
positive · AI labelView post →Not a bad base colony building game once you get the hang of it. Game makes you go through the tutorial to understand the mechanics. As far as difficulty, game is pretty laid back, not very difficult and achievements are easily obtainable. I would only purchase this on sale, not worth the full price for how basic the overall game is. Overall, not a bad game to have in your library for a relaxing game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am having a great time playing this game (on Easy mode). It's very similar to Surviving Mars, but I like the setup more here. It's easy enough to setup buildings, even though I'm a poor city planner, so all my houses are spread out all over the place. I like the challenges presented in the radar and how simple that is to use. This is what I want in a mobile game - but it's too complicated for one of those. Simply put, this is a great game with fantastic graphics and a soothing soundtrack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice little game for just building a city in the post apocaliptyc environment. I liked the game concept. i liked it better than the endzone game . Also I bought it on sale so for that price it's a big recommendation if you like these kind of building games. Also I did not need a grand story for these kind of game so for me. So for me this game was good enough to play. Also you can't possibly say it's an abandoned game it is a finished one.there is a big difference
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is meh. Good but feels like the devs ran out of energie to polish it. It can provide some fun but not a game you will come back for a second round, which is a shame cause i like the idea they tried to make! And it holds potential for sure, but it is up to them to make more things to get players that bought come back for more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly diminish a game Oxygen Included
neutral · AI labelView post →Oxygen had me at “post-apocalyptic city building.” Sadly, it lost me somewhere between my fifteenth slow-motion building upgrade and my twentieth “wait for something to happen” moment. It’s an indie title, so I wasn’t expecting AAA spectaclem but I was expecting to actually play the game instead of staring at my colony as it creeps forward in geological time. Even at the fastest speed, progress feels like it’s wading through molasses in a gas mask. The research tree? Don’t even ask. I don’t…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wan't to like this game. But at this moment I can't recommend the game to you guys. For me to like the game, I need the following to be added: * When people get sick, they leave their jobs, but when they are healthy again they don't go back. They need to go back to their original workplace. * Automatic assingment of workplaces. It's tidious to manage where everyone works. Especially when you don't have enough people to assign to every place. And at the rate quests are comming in,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am writing this review after 3 hours with a bit of mixture feeling. This game immediately remembered me of Frostpunk, with one big difference: It lacks of a good story. I like the dystopian atmosphere and the partially upcoming time pressuring tasks, which are all somehow missed opportunities in creating a campaign mode. This game is a game without a goal, which I find it a bit of sad honestly speaking. Don't get me wrong here. I do like playing it and the tasks are motivating a bit to reach…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wouldn't recommend buying unless you're looking for easy achievement hunting, not much content here
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oxygen is a good city builder with a few cool ideas but it lacks substance. Buildings off games like banished it tries to stress you and provide challenges while building up your city however it doesn't have the same stakes at any given point; once you are past the first few weather events and starting to get into the research tree its pretty plain sailing. There is nothing wrong with the game but i cant recommend it in good faith because there's nothing that stands out about it. If the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dear Lord, where do I begin? Aside from the oxygen-is-life mechanic, which, if it touches zero, means you lose, this game simply isn't very interesting. I tried to see the good in it, but I just couldn't. The number of structures is lacking, as are the resources. After a certain point in time, it becomes just so repetitive. To an extent, that is to be expected from city-building games, but in this case, you get there rather quickly, faster than one expects. It seems Oxygen attempts to cover…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was pretty underwhelmed by this game. I wanted to like it, I really did, but in my opinion it never really grasps its full potential. I feel like oxygen should be central to everything you do in the game but it doesn't feel like it is. The buildings the game has don't feel very centered around the oxygen mechanic either, like where is the upgrades for roads that turn them into sealed tunnels? Why don't I build actual domes around the trees? Why don't I have to worry about sealing the…

This game actually is not stressful at all if you never get more than 3 replicants, but as soon as you start trying to do things in the not slowest way possible, you're bound to hit some problems 😂
neutral · AI labelView post →Apocalyptic improved Banished.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know man, the game just feels barebones. There seems to be no benefit to higher tier food whatsoever and the "help" menu gives no additional information. There's no way to move items from one storage to another. Logistics in this game just seem haphazard at best and this resulted in my people devouring canned fish, even though regular fish was available. There just doesn't seem to be much to this game.
