I bought this game like 10 years ago when it was in EA. It was fun but ran out of steam after like 20 minutes. Figured Id check back in. Forgot about it. Played it again a few weeks ago. It's basically the same game with a few extra levels. There's a strange rogue like mode now thats...entirely unrelated to the main game and pretty terrible. No idea why they pivoted so hard into a game that doesn't seem to play into …

What can I say about this game that my playtime doesn't already say. I want to give this a fair review but I should say that this is a game that I cannot recommend enough, even for a couple of hours of smashing heads. The content: PTTR started with some scenarios and some basic features and a map creator, and since then the scope of content added has been immense. The game has scenarios to get you started, it has a …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Paint the Town Red has a score of 67 out of 100 from thirteen reviews on the gaming aggregate website OpenCritic, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. The game has a score of 77/100 on Metacritic. William Worrall, writing for TechRaptor, gave praise to the use of voxels, explaining that whenever someone is "hit", that "specific part of their body" reacts accordingly. However, Worrall found Paint the Town Red to be unbalanced, as "without modifiers", "a single enemy wielding a bladed weapon or broken bottle can wipe a third of your health in a single hit". Ultimately scoring it 5 out of 10. Dread Central writer Samuel Guglielmo also expressed enjoyment of the combat system, but proposed…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paint The Town Red, my game of Sad Gay Vampires, is my favourite thing I've ever written: my red raw meditation on life, love and excess, delivered in a beautiful book with art from @nohr.se and dozens of other artists, both alive and dead!
positive · AI labelView post →I think if you really look past the god awful rougelike sections and arenas of this game you can find a amazing first person beat'em-up game. Really what the devs should've done of instead of adding VR or modes the main playerbase will never use, they shouldve honed in on the main stages where the games sandboxy nature really shines.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If this really is the last home game of the season for the Flyers, one thing I will definitely not miss: the part of the warmup mix that has Doja Cat's Paint the Town Red. Just find it nails on a chalkboard annoying.
neutral · AI labelView post →Watched Captain Sauce play, and got it myself. Been enjoying it for awhile now since this is the only voxel beat em up game I ever played. My only issue is that vr is a separate dlc, and since I've already brought the quest 2 version, (which is even more, and you can't play custom levels)- I have no choice, but to rebuy the vr version when I already own it just to play custom levels. Which is what drastically increases playtime. I can beat the entire game and beneath in 20-30 hours tops, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I know, it’s been almost ten years since the game first came out, but honestly, it was worth waiting all that time before finally playing it. I remember watching a few YouTube videos back when it first released. It looked interesting, but I decided to wait until it was fully complete and polished. I have to say, I was genuinely surprised by how the game evolved from being just a simple bar fight simulator into a full campaign with real lore. It’s an impressive transformation, and the…

neutral · AI labelView post →An absolute classic. Most games with physics-based combat and dynamic destruction try way too hard to be realistic and just end up being laggy and jank. But not this game. huge credit to CaptainSauce for keeping this game in the public eye for so long.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth it, even on sale. Only 6 main levels, which are pretty fun, but after beating them which only takes about an hour, all thats left is a rogue like mode that has nothing to do with the main game idea and is mid. I wish I refunded this before the 2 week deadline.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wanted to play it since forever, finally got my hands on it and well it's rather disappointing. The premise is pretty cool in theory but after 2 levels you already get the point and after beating every map that's basically it from the fun content. The arena is too unforgiving and not very interesting, beneath is an ok dungeon crawler but not something i'd buy the game for. Speaking of buying, it asks a rather hefty price tag for what it offers. Overall pretty disappointing and i'd recommend…
