Ravenswatch is a compelling game: the characters are distinct, there's a good variety of objectives, and the moment-to-moment combat is genuinely fun. But the solid ARPG bones are broken by a convoluted scale-or-perish design. Let me explain. Snowballing is mandatory. You're on time limit. The faster you can clear camps, the more objectives you can take, and the more objectives you can take, the stronger you get. …

Love the game. But after the first 200 runs… it gets stale. Devs, please listen. We need an endless mode, let us just get OP and have fun grinding a character. We need more map and objective variety. And the most important, that Romeo and Juliet play style needs to spread to the rest of the cast. Being able to play off of your friends moves is so much fun. Adds an extra reason to work together and the damage payoff …

I'm aghast to see this at 'Mostly Positive' when I'm sat here thinking it's one of the best action roguelikes I've played in years, solo or co-op. Ravenswatch reminds me of Stunlock's excellent Battlerite, with its very deliberate, kinetic, slick and satisfying combat, and Risk of Rain, with its mostly static environments and randomised goodies peppered across the map. Ravenswatch is a hard game to describe quickly. Pros: 1. Character gameplay: Overall, the moment-to-moment action gameplay is fine. 2. Aesthetics: Art style and music fits with the theme. Cons: 1. Almost no map variety: Same 3 maps over and over again. 2. Enemy variety: Same 3 bosses, same couple of enemies every time. 3. Build variety: Very easy to figure out what is the best build for a certain character and not hard to try to execute it almost every time. I REALLY want to give this a positive review. I absolutely love the PvE-MobA style gameplay, I think the hero kits are super engaging, they have lots of fun builds to play around with, fighting enemies just feels really good (most of the time). The art/visuals are fantastic, the sounds are good, and my first time playing the game I was in love. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that seriously hamper the experience. In a world where Battlerite and Supervive are dead, and V-Rising has no endgame. Where Diablo is hungry for your wallet and Path of Exile is stalling content releases. What do we have left? Ravenswatch is an indie gem which doesn't do more that it promises, but does a lot of things right. Especially its very polished art and animations, challenging yet satisfying combat (enemies aren't just punching bags) and cool enough build depth. Some of the game's systems are really unique and it takes…

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hated this game until around hour 20 until it suddenly started to click for me and I played about 140 hours within a few months. Every character has soooo much synergy and build paths, tons of talents, new characters/enemies/quests being added to keep the game new and fresh. It is actually a phenomenal roguelike However, you will die a LOT at the beginning. You will tilt and rage and have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ anything does.. until one day you finally understand the mechanics,…

This game is special, it's not perfect but it's extraordinary. They made great use of fairy tale and literary characters and created an intriguing world with gameplay that can be frustrating at first but becomes addictive as you get to know the game better. It's unique within the roguelike niche, demanding time and path management. I don't agree with new characters being sold as DLC, and I believe the base game needs some fixes and adjustments before releasing new content (for example: the…

One of those ones where you wish it wasn't just a Yes or No option if you recommend. This game clearly has a lot of love in it, but it feels undercooked. There's really not that much variety of any kind in it; enemies, bosses, builds, etc. There's enough to make it worth a purchase on sale, but it feels like there's entire features missing and even a level or two. Also, the most egregious thing and what made my give it a "no" review, is that there is no way to re-join a game if you crash…

With 300+ hours in the game, I can confidently say that if you like rogue-likes or even action RPGs, this should be an instant buy for you. It's outstanding! Most of the characters are really fun and interesting to play, though there are some you absolutely should not start with (Scarlet, Geppetto, looking at you....). The earlier difficulties are decently fun. The game overall is decently fun. BUT i am still going to leave a negative review for the following reasons that absolutely sucked the fun out of the game for me and my friend. TL;DR - I would not pay full price for this game. I would not play it for variety. This is a 5-20 hours game for most gamers. Though grinders and achievement hunters will stick around for far longer. 1. On max difficulty bosses will NOT let you resurrect each other (most…

If you had told me this game was still in Early Access, I would have said "awesome, what's here is really great and I look forward to the final product". Except this is the final product. Yes there's a roadmap with more characters and modes and skins and whatever. But that's not where this game is lacking. Good game. I have about 925 hours at the time of writing this review. Slow paced combat. Three chapters, all 18 minutes long. A boss fight at the end of each chapter. you get stronger with hero talents and magical objects that you collect along the way. 4 man CO-OP is available. There's a lot of thought and polish to the gameplay and combat mechanics. All heroes are well balanced. (not all are equal, of course. some are stronger than others) The biggest con for me is how stale the game can…

Times like these I wish Steam had a "Maybe Recommend" option. Ravenswatch nails the essentials. The combat feels good, the characters are distinct, the in-the-moment upgrades are satisfying, and the bosses hit that sweet spot of challenging but not punishing. It's genuinely fun while you're playing it. The problem is what happens after a few runs: you've basically seen everything. Higher difficulties unlock, but they just throw more elites at you with bloated HP pools. The progression system…

This game is like what if Gauntlet was revived into a Roguelite. Tough at first, this is not just a hack and slash, you have to know your moves and the bonuses that come with them, then apply them in a perfect amalgamation of theory and practical application as the enemies WILL swarm you. There are side-quests in each level that allow you to unlock bonuses which are needed for the boss. While the visual style, sound design, and general gameplay loop of Ravenswatch are decent, the experience is undermined by significant balance issues. Specifically, the game suffers from a disconnect between character animation constraints and enemy attack patterns. Unlike other roguelikes where you can get your overpowered run, this game never seems to award dopamine. It's always a struggle and there's no real reward or pay-off. Even beating the three chapters you gain a pitiful amount of exp, and even then, what's the reward? There isn't really any. There is satisfaction in beating a difficult game, but each run is essentially the same three levels so it lacks real randomness. Ravenswatch is probably the most "arcade-y" action roguelike game I've played and that has to be good news. Your hero, selected from a few available (plus a few more who can be unlocked later) is up to the task of freeing a magical fairy-tale world from invading nightmare forces. That's of course, easier said than done: You must first cleanse three large areas of their nightmarish bosses. What more can you ask for? The game is not bad solo but with 2-3 extra players it shines in the best way possible. The more I play the more I love this game. It was a slow start for me but I also strongly recommend a controller - I had only been playing mouse and keyboard games and defaulted to that. Playing with a controller now and I'd never look back. There was a high bar for learning enemies and characters but it's very rewarding to explore all the possible builds now that I'm not also figuring the basics out. And I simply love the folklore, it feels so fresh in the franchise video game world we live in.

Great game but there is one issue. Contextual Action (R) Sometimes you might not want to spend your talent point because all your options are crap, so you want to find more Stars of fate before you chose. This will make looting and resurrecting a pain in the ass were you press R a few milliseconds to early resulting in getting into the talent screen. Unfortunately, this game is locked at 720p on steam deck and renders with some pretty egregious thick black bars. This game CAN be fun but not enough to leave it a positive review. You never feel strong enough to kill anything no matter how many upgrades and items you get plus you don't have enough time to look around the map for anything that could remotely help you. Every fight feels like a slap fight and every boss battle just feels tedious and annoying. There are better roguelikes out there that won't charge you $8 for a character.

This game rules. A Hades clone, yes, but brings enough new ideas to the table that it winds up distinguishing itself from that masterpiece in some key ways; - Choose Your Upgrade Strategy You have three days (about 15 minutes I think) to run around the map upgrading your character before the boss wakes up and you have to fight it. This adds an interesting strategy layer to the Hades formula, which mostly gives you either/or choices with limited ways to stack the deck. In Ravenswatch, you…

This is a skill based , very well crafted game. It demands attention , game knowledge and ability to adapt. If you are looking for a challenge this is a good choice. It can be played solo but it is clearly meant to be played with a group. Random groups can be frustuating at times but still fun. Only drawback i would say is the somewhat limited overall content, there is enough (and the game gets free updates from time to time) but dont expect continous huge game content drops . Overall…

figure I might as well put in a positive review to somewhat counteract the influx of negative ones. I've been slowly working my way through unlocking all the characters' lore bits one by one in singleplayer, on the second highest difficultly (Darkness), and as a singleplayer roguelike experience, I think it's pretty good. yeah, the game is difficult. You need to learn enemy patterns, day/night behaviours, how to path efficiently and how to leave combat quickly to interact with things, and you…

Overall is good game, the characters options are diverse and have interesting skills, but it got boring for me quickly. I recommend it with some considerations: I think that it needs more variation for the quests and bosses, they get repetitive rather fast, and I don’t like that the difficulty increase reduces the player power instead of making the game more powerful.

Context: my friends and I play a lot of Ravenswatch. So much that we no longer text, "Are we playing Ravenswatch tonight?" Instead it's just, "CAW!" or a meme or image that features ravens or the word "caw". Another game I play is Caves of Qud, and I saved this screenshot to send as a meme to my Ravenswatch text group. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b54a2e39-3753-4fc0-a9a0-659187410c7d.jpeg)

This revew could've been Positive, but i am sadly dissapointed about the path devs chose to develop it. Another game with huge potential that was never fully realized. Ever since the very first public beta, the developers have focused on adding more and more content while seemingly forgetting about its quality, as well as failing to expand the game in depth to make it more replayable and give players meaningful choices that actually affect the run while keeping to discover new ways and…

WOAH the Switch 2 edition is a free upgrade if you own the game and it's on sale on the eShop right now for $9!! HIGHLY recommend picking this up at this price. The devs have done a TON of really cool updates and i really think Ravenswatch is a cool take on a very Nightreign structured game

First playthrough, you think "what a short, fun game." Then you start increasing the difficulty. My partner and I have spent over a hundred and fifty hours trying to clear the highest difficulty on all the characters. We do not normally do this. Highly recommend.

Excellent. Especially if you have friends to play with. Still fun solo and solo queue. My only complaints are lack of variety in the maps and I wish there could be another chapter or an endless. Very fun though and totally worth the money!

I mainly play co-op roguelute/roguelikes and this is the best one I've come across. The unique feeling of each character and the decision making along with responsive combat. Those are the reason I've spent and will continue to spend hours upon hours in this game.
