What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 125 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (377 of 497 positive).
Many players find the game fun once technical issues are resolved. [1][2][3] Several reviewers report that the menu is extremely slow and unresponsive. [2][4][5] Some players recommend limiting the framerate to fix performance problems. [6][7][8]

Ok, so, I know I have like no time clocked into this game, but hear me out on this one: I loaded up RC Cars and found the worst main menu of all time. It took 10 seconds to go from one option to another as the game slooooooowly transitioned between things. It was so bad I loaded up FRAPS to record it. But then it started working fine, so I closed FRAPS and went back to playing, but it was slowed down again. After …

Has a really really really awful menu... every option you chose takes roughly 30 seconds to get to the next screen, you will be literally traped inside the menu for about 7 minutes before you could think about starting you first race. Music is ok, gameplay feels good for a very low budget racer but it feels also dull and empty. No weapons, no boostpads, just gas and steering...

Haha this game is great. Once I'd figured out how to get my gamepad working and turn down the sensitivity (a lot!) it was superb. The graphics are really good, and there are some amusing things like the people on the beach trying to kick your RC car out of the way, and a nice pumping soundtrack to get the adrenaline pumping. Love it!

Just cap the FPS at 60 and it runs as well as any modern title. This game is such blast from the past and has aged like fine wine. The gameplay is still fun and the physics are awesome. I love finding shortcuts in the tracks. There are only 3 cars but you can upgrade them which I found to be really cool. Only issue is it doesn't seem to have analog steering. I can bind steering to my analog sticks but it is no …

The game is great, but this steam port is unplayable. Lagging bugging and so on. Car is flying through space hitting invisible objects. It is really unplayable, dont buy it. This was my favorite game as a kid EDIT: You have to set FPS to 75 and use 3ple buffer so the game does not lag

They've gotten better in recent years, but this is an old school 1C game from 2003, back when you wondered if they were from another planet. If you want to play RC Cars, you're going to have to work for it. To get this game to work correctly, you primarily have to do two things: - Manually set the game's framerate…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find the game fun to play despite the suspension going wild sometimes (always at the same spot in the track) but the menus are just so damn slow. It's so irritating. I think 2/3 of my Steam 'playtime' is just menu time. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! EDIT : Change your frame rate in the menu to 35 or 40 and the menu will run fine. Great game now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pure nostalgia. To anyone having a slow menu and/or buggy/unplayable cars: Limit FPS to 60.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has not been modified for a current pc. The menu runs very.... wait for it... VERY slow and after getting it set up for my microsoft controller i was able to navigate the menu but it would not work in game. If you can get it for less than 5 dollars then maybe its a game for you but i am very dissapointed in the game, probbably wont ever play it again.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I unfortunately couldn't play the game properly. The whole thing is laggy, buggy, and extremely slow. It's not enjoyable.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Click.... wait for it.... wait for it... ) After trying to navigate the settings for a few minutes I moved on. The game looks cool from what I've seen, but I didn't have the patience to get to the game play just navigating the menus took for ever. (i7 with GTX1060, this game shouldn't be that slow...) Also when in windowed mode it seemed locked at 1028x768, even when changed through the in game menu, and it was not possible to resize the window on the desktop. All my time in this game was just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy it if you're running a PC that is newer than from 2000. The game's physics are screwed up and the menu is lame as hell. Sad. I always liked the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The racing feels somewhat like Mario cart. Can be fun if it works right. Notes: The menus were slow and unresponsive until I limited the framerate in the advanced options. The game was made for a 4:3 resolution and stretches for 16:9. Choose a 4:3 resolution or everything will look wider than it is. Car reset sets you back to the last check point, which can be quite a stretch back. Avoid that. Skip the intro with the Esc key. The game has moving obstacles, a track that allows for nonobvious…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The menu alone is bad enough that I'd never reccomend this game, it's just way too slow and unresponsive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mini car racer. If you played games like Re-Volt you know what I mean. This game is like spiritual sequel to some degree. Maybe offering less cars and most races being held on beach and other outdoor areas, it still have a lilbit of something cool. Racing is responsive and feels like driving RC car. Tracks offer some splitting parts and shortcuts. Not bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As said by multiple reviewers, the interface is slow and stuttering. If you somehow manage to start a race, you'll encounter graphical problems and you'll be forced to kill the game from Task Manager. To sum it up: game doesn't work - at least on Windows 11. Do not buy it under any circumstances .

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RC Cars is a simple little racer originally released in the PS2 era. Unlike similar games, there are no weapons, it's just pure racing. There are various obstacles around the tracks to hamper your progress, and jumps and bumps to fly over. Driving the cars is fairly easy as it's an arcade racer through and through. Most of the vehicles seem to grip well and aren't affected too much by rough terrain as in some other RC racers. The AI isn't too bad either, of course the other drivers will bash…

neutral · AI labelView post →I remember when I played it for the first time, it was such a fun! :D Racing is quite a popular game genre, now we have so many types of vehicles and not only them to play with. But in early 2000's this game was quite a unique one in terms of theme, handling, transport type. It plays OK on Win10, but change FPS limiter in settings to 60, because otherwise game menu will be very slow, car in race will bounce all the time. The only thing I had to do: switch game to windowed, in fullscreen…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is complete trash. It is not the original Smash Cars from PS2 it is made out to be. It is more of a 'best of' Smash Cars without the best tracks from the original, scavenger hunt, or stunt races. This game is a gutted version of the original game. 2/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →♥♥♥♥♥♥ the menu is slow, but the game is realy fun, like the old days,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trust me, it didn't hold my attention for long. I got this because I compleatly remember playing this on my cousin's old Window's XP computer, and I was wanting a nostalgia reboot. Well, apperently I didn't remember that it was this buggy. And plus, it just isn't that good. It's hard to describe. Races are too long, too boring, functions didn't work, and to top it off, I was using a controller, which isn't good, because you can only navigate using the left stick. This was a problem and I just…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the worst games ive seen in a while. The menu layout takes about 5 seconds to go from button to button, the physics in the game make it absolutly impossible to play the game and the AI's are horrible. Save your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has to be the worst racing game I have ever played. I thought is was gonna be like a RC racing game I played years ago. The menu system is annoyingly slow, and the controls are just as bad. I wish I could get my money and the last 30 minutes of my life back
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic 2003 videogame. Despite being about little toy cars it has this badass cool vibe that you don't really see anymore. The slapstick goofy visuals are paired with an absolutely banging soundtrack that really gets you in a hype mood. Graphics aren't that bad considering. Controls are pretty rough.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →English: RC Cars was my childhood game and I played a lot, great maps and cool car physics, but ... well the steam version has a lot of bugs, and the biggest mistake is that in the menu and in the game you can not hear the effects or the voices of cars - you only hear music, please fix it !! Still, the game is worth your attention and worth buying :). Polish: RC Cars to moja gra dzieciństwa i bardzo dużo w nią grałem, świetne mapy i fajna fizyka samochodów, i oczywiście ten klimat. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was not able to enjoy the high quality gameplay R.C. Cars had to offer, because DirectPlay wouldn't install on my computer. 0/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is dump!! You'll grow a beard by the time menu loads up!! Cars controlls resemble cardboard cutouts being pushed around the floor. Save that £1.24, buy yourself an ice cream or smth, at least it'll make you feel better for a moment and save you the stress of dealing with this diarrhea nugget!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible, horrible game! Not even worth the $1.25 (ish) I paid for it. Bad controls and buggy. If you do have this game set the refresh rate to 30 - 40 range so that it doesn't take an hour to use the bugged out menus.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was expecting much more, menus are really bad and ruin everything. Seems to only be 3 unlockable cars and car slows down for no reason during race. It was a game with little or no effort put in from the developers. Don't spend money on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1/10 game breaking bugs
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This racing game is the very definition of the old school arcade racing genre. The graphics still do hold up to this day and can be run on about any GPU nowadays, and the gameplay mechanics are wonderful, something that you don't see these days around. RC naturally stands for remote control, which the screenshots show up quite well. Boost does regenerate over time as from the old Need for Speed titles, and it's all about running down through the checkpoints and to the finish; How do you get…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RC Cars is an ancient game from 2003. It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. The game doesn't work for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RC Cars, developed by Creat Studios in 2002, published by 1C Entertainment in 2002-2003 is an arcade radio-contolled racing game. Physics: It's a tale of two opposites. On one side, suspension works pretty realistically - car's spring is able to handle bumps and smoothens the ride, you can see it working and it allows to drive over smaller obstacles, but it's not consistent, one time you will drive over the obstacle, another time you will crash out in the same spot. The grip mechanic is very…
