Red Dead Online
Developer Rockstar Games
Red Dead Online is a 2019 action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games as the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2. After several months in beta, it was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May 2019, and for Windows and Stadia in November 2019. A standalone client for the game was released in December 2020. In Red Dead Online, players control a customizable silent protagonist who is… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 222 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (57,725 of 69,500 positive).
Players love the game's world and potential but are furious at Rockstar for abandoning it. [1][2][3] Many say the game is unplayable on PC due to rampant hackers and cheaters. [4][5][6] Some recommend using private servers to avoid hackers and enjoy the game. [7][8][9]

Dont buy. This game is overrun with hackers and modders. Apparently rockstar isnt doing anything about it and Steam will just giving you a boiler plate response if you ask for a refund. This game is a security risk and should not be sold on here unless its fixed

This game could have been great, instead it's practically unplayable. Spawn in, immediately teleported and stabbed. Respawn, get boats dropped on you from the sky. Finally respawn far enough away from a town to call your horse, start riding away, horse has now spontaneously combusted. Oh look, respawned back in town where fireworks are going off inside of the clothing store and everything is on fire. Aaaaand dead …

Love it but mad at Rockstar for discontinuing updates and support. So much potential lost.

Red Dead Online is genuinely one of the best games I have ever played. There is something incredibly satisfying about spending an entire evening doing absolutely nothing productive. I can simply get on my horse, ride through the countryside, hunt some animals, admire the scenery and forget that the real world exists for a while. And when I eventually get bored of being a peaceful cowboy, I can go into a mission and …

Rockstar did a real bad thing by cutting major support of the online of this game. some of the most fun moments ive had gaming over the years have came from this brilliant game. if i had one wish? it would be for them to resume support of rdr2, ban the hackers and stop updating gta 5 instead

60% of the 222 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Red Dead Online. The complaint that keeps coming up: rockstar stopped supporting the game. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Red Dead Online received criticism at launch for its in-game currency rewards for activities, with players complaining they were too low for the cost of goods and upgrades. Some players calculated a single gold bar could take an estimated eight hours to earn in the game. Rockstar agreed to re-balance the game's economy following complaints. Similar complaints emerged about the griefing taking place in the game; Rockstar fixed these issues by making player visibility dependent on their proximity and behavior. The Verge reported several users who played as black characters had been targeted by griefers posing as Ku Klux Klan-inspired clans or slave catchers who often called them racial slurs.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The unmoderated hacker problem is just as bad if not worse than GTA5 and Rockstar already got your money, so they don't give a ♥♥♥♥. I'd call this game a genuine piece of ♥♥♥♥, but fecal matter would sue me. I won't be buying GTA6, you can ♥♥♥♥ yourself Rockstar.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is completely unplayable on pc, if i could i would sue rockstar for even allowing people to to think that this is a purchasable or "good" game, i just bought this game remembering how fun it was on console, im on pc now, if the players using mod cheats werent hindering my game play, the 1,000,000 game and server bugs do, this game isnt even on theyre radar anymore, i want my money back so dont waste yours
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hacker infested garbage, but pretty fun when you are able to actually play the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Dead Online (as a cozy horse girl game) my beloved :) #Art | #RDO | #RedDeadOnline | #HorseArt
positive · AI labelView post →This game has a lot of hackers in pc , the modders keep getting worse .one shot kill , Giant player , spawning us to other locations ,Blewing up all of a sudden , even if headshot lands they wont die. Its a beautiful game but ruined by modders like these and sometimes its just too much cause RDR is a game where you take it slow but all of a suddenout of nowhere you blow up when enjoying a scenery so if you can adjust those things then you are good to go.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love it but mad at Rockstar for discontinuing updates and support. So much potential lost.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nothing but love for this game, I mean game has been out forever so no need to deep dive the content. Its just absolutely ridiculous how cheaters are running rampant and griefing people just for their pure amusement. the amount of times I have failed a mission or had my trader wagon blown up just as im about to finish said mission is astonishing. its also amazing how they left the game in its current state but still give gta 5 a new dlc twice a week even after all these years. f*** you rockstar
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a person that had the most fun in Red Dead Online when I was doing absolute chaotic bullshit, I think this game was built specifically for me.
positive · AI labelView post →hackers and cheaters in paid game is unacceptable, especially for a company as big as Rock*. and don't start again with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher, we don't need a launcher for a launcher, it's stupid, egotistic and bluntly greedy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lacks capabilities such as Private Servers, Character transfers (across platforms) ect that are available in GTA5. Is no longer being supported by the developers and riddled with hackers/cheaters that spoil any enjoyment you might get.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you have a console this game is amazing.. on PC it sucks butt. no private lobby. mods everywhere. half the game wont work in a lobby with modders. i figured i put in 180 hours on xbox. went on sale for $10 on steam.. waste of money. ill just turn my xbox on when i want to ride around. it would be more worth it to buy a used console to play this game rather than play on PC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to clarify in the beginning that you should not look at this game through the lense of online multiplayer. The "online" component of Red Dead Online is utter garbage. It is a well known fact that the game is overrun with hackers. Such characters can easily crash your game or worse. There is no adequate communication between players, the game doesn't support simple chat system, only voice. And even then, why would you communicate with anyone? Half of the players just grief your business…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to like playing this game, but then people decided it's okay to hack and or cheat in the game, all I have done is mind my own business while playing and some other random player(s) would kill me in the game for no reason at all, sometimes repeatedly, so I don't play it anymore, also uninstalled the game, so unless someone were to crack down on the hackers in the game, I'm not touching this game any longer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ok playing Red Dead Online pretending it's a horse girl game is making something to my brain
positive · AI labelView post →RDR2 is a fun story, the online version has been long abandoned to the point where it is close to unplayable. Hackers are everywhere, the connection is more unstable than a league player, and a good chunk of items and cosmetics are lost to time bc of FOMO events. Rockstar is using Red Dead Online for a money farm and not using a dime to fix any of the issues let alone give a new update. If you do get this DO NOT BUY GOLD, it's relatively easy to get gold, just takes a bit. Even poker isn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hostile players make it basically impossible to play the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My game is absolutely unplayable on PC. Every time I join, under less than 10 minutes, people start using exploitation and kill me on an instant. It ruins my gameplay and quite frankly I'm getting sick of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game. But sadly its ruined by hackers. reports dont help and devs dont do anything about it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rockstar has no regard for those who have account linking issues (or any sort of access-to-what-you-bought problems). I have 80 minutes of playtime and god knows how long in the rockstar launcher yet have not even seen the game's main menu. The launcher will completely block you from playing the game despite paying for it, and if you try too hard to recover your account through the ticket-based "Support" system on their website they will genuinely simply stop accepting your tickets and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rockstar abandoned this game its so cooked its full of cheaters the anti cheat is hot garbage

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once you figure out how to make your own server instance this game is so good, like 9.5/10 and very under appreciated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think we talk about this enough. When you join a healthy roleplay server of some open world game like Red Dead Online, people will stay in character but remain helpful. If they're teaching you to press your E keyboard key to interact with an object, they'll say, "you use your E muscle."
neutral · AI labelView post →What’s a game that got you through a hard time? I was bedridden for 2 years following complications due to COVID-19 in 2020. Red Dead Online gave me a sense of purpose, fulfillment, and peace throughout my recovery. From the serenity of crafting to late night horseback chats with friends… 1/2
positive · AI labelView post →If I could refund I would. As per the other reviews, every server is packed with cheaters. They spawn alligators on you, force you into the sky and force you to play out cut scenes. Some cause explosions all around you and your posse continuously. The missions sucks and everything costs premium currency to purchase. It's not fun at all and I would not recommend buying it, even on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games, but littered with people who use god mode or mods that spawn explosive on you or go invisible. Like why? In a game that lets you use a parley system, or play in a passive state...I dont get it. Mothers are out here raising b*tches. Put your tiny ego down and play a wild west game the way its supposed to be played. Console has cronus user problems, plus they boot you if you still beat them smh. This game is easily a 5 star if people actually played without all these hacks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Setup a private server and you won't have to deal with stupid hackers. Otherwise hackers are everywhere, ruining the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless freezing of the game and Rockstar does nothing to fix it. Reload in and have to retrieve horse from stables every time after freezing and forced restart, only to freeze again as soon as horse is chosen. Waste of money and time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is 1000% better on a private server. You could ride around for 1000 hours and still find new things to see.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Greed Dead Online I’m writing this in conjunction with my VERY positive RDR2 review just because I feel I need to get this off my chest. Ignore the number of hours it says I have, I've played this garbage for dozens of hours on my full copy of RDR2. I like 100%ing games, which in my book means getting all the achievements on Steam. It’s my thing and I enjoy it, but every now and again that fixation of mine forces me to submerge myself in fecal matter such as this abysmal excuse for an online…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game would be so amazing if only rockstar would get their head out of Gta's ass and actually fix RDO, i spend more time trying to find a server that isnt bugged then actually playing the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, I would recommend this game and yes, it is a lot of fun to play. BUT, PLEASE, ROCKSTAR!!! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THE HACKERS!!!!!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Switched from console to pc, still love this game. Just wish rockstar would continue to update it instead of GTA.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game made my life 100% better. i was less happier when i first started this game. throughout the game i became even more and more attached. at the end of chapter 6 i cried. it changed my way of looking at people, i respected my loved ones even more and cherish what i had. games a game changer. literally.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I both do and don't recommend RDO. I've played alot of it and there are some pro's but also massive con's. The con's being the modder's (cheaters), although some of them are harmless, others will harass you, cheat, crash you game, track your IP address and crash your internet (Make sure you have a VPN), I've had one make their character do explicit/sexual things to my characters face.... All of this and the developers either can't or won't ban them. If you play this game, do so knowing that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paying for a game that constantly crashes and cares little about their users is certainly the Rockstar experience 🤣 Get use to this message because you'll see it every 5 minutes "ALERT Unable to connect to Rockstart.. we don't care so try again or don't" yeah don't buy this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The number of bugs and glitches you can expect to experience per minute is similar to the frames per second you'd get on a mid-range PC. This game has been absolutely abandoned by Rockstar long ago, and if you wanna get into it with some friends, get your ass ready for some insufferable time of crashes, bugs and hackers who ruin days uninterrupted
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This only gets a thumbs up because of all the fun I had when friends still played this game, but unfortunately this went the way of the West when The Powers That Be decided that a roleplaying experience was less lucrative than making GTA forever. Surprised they haven't just pulled the plug already since this is clearly not something anyone in charge gives an ess eche eye tee about. Unplayable without a third party tool that dumps you in a session alone, and just makes me sad to even do that now…

neutral · AI labelView post →I’ve spent 216 hours in Red Dead Online, and my feelings are complicated, but I still recommend it. It’s a tragedy what happened to this game. Rockstar built one of the most breathtaking, immersive open worlds in gaming history—a place where you can just sit on a ridge and watch the sun set over the Heartlands—and then they abandoned it. The lack of major updates is heartbreaking. But the community keeps it alive. Despite the economy being a grind and the occasional griefer, there’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Official Inaction on Cheaters and Inadequate Anti-Cheat Measures (The Core Issue) Despite widespread cheating, particularly on the PC version, the developers have taken virtually no fundamental action—such as issuing bans or implementing robust anti-cheat systems—effectively leaving the situation completely unchecked. The issue is so severe that switching sessions merely drops you into another server with cheaters, making a smooth gameplay experience impossible. In practice, players encounter…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red dead online is the most wasted potential for a game ive seen. every year i will restart on a new device, be hooked for a month then forget about the game due to the lack of late game content. RDO has some of the best begginer fun in a game ive seen they just sold the bag on the endgame. definitly worth it for a beginner
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Goddammit there's a hack that will let you play a closed game of Red Dead Online with just your friends but you have to be on computer for it to work and my computer won't run it :(
negative · AI labelView post →amazing but the modders need to be stopped and the game need anti cheat
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this world, and I love exploring it separate from Arthur's story. With a simple mod install to create private sessions for me and my friends, this is one of my favorite multiplayer environments I've ever spent time in. A shame that the online didn't see the same attention that GTA V got, but there's already enough here for at least a couple hundred more hours from me. Without the mod, its tough to get away from cheaters and empty feeling environments.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Dead Online players: *You mean cheating isn’t the expectation?* Seriously though, RDO had the single worst cheating problem I ever encountered. To the point that the multiplayer was downright unplayable unless you had cheats of your own. People would constantly troll with full-map aimbots, combined with infinite explosive ammo and no reloads. You log in, and your character is immediately taking an explosive bullet to the face on every single frame. You start in a campsite where you can’t…
negative · AI labelView post →If you know how to mod games, then i'd recommend getting a mod menu (hint: github) and a private lobby manager (nexus mods, really easy to find) before starting the game. This allows you to play solo or with friends and the mod menu adding a solid layer of anti-crash scripts. Yes, the modders can crash your game at will, the game is literally using peer-to-peer multiplayer connections for it's servers, so even anti-cheat is practically useless here. The game so far is playable for my outdated…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is horrible , at least online, its full of hackers, i spawn in, i start falling off of mount olyimpus, i spawn in again, i'm above the clouds and land on a saloon, respawn, next thing i know my character is missing his head after drinking 1 beer
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uninstalled after 7 hours. As a solo player, the progression feels nearly impossible without spending real money. In game cash is too hard to come by—I barely had $50 after buying basic necessities like ammo. The world felt empty and silent, mostly consisting of just skinning wildlife. When I did run into other players, I was massively outgunned by high-level players. Wanted to love it, but it’s just not solo-friendly or fun early on. Consider this the Western GTA. If you want to make it,…
