Figured I'd see how this game is doing these days, since I had 100% of achievements before they added fishing and it'd be nice to get it back on my 100% list. Unfortunately, it's still exactly as jank as it always was. Some areas just run terribly regardless of PC specs, there are things you can interact with that just don't function at all, movement feels like they couldn't quite get it together so the hoverbike is …

Sable is pretty much everything I wanted it to be. With some caveats! Sable is the complete opposite of a stressful game. It oozes zen out of every pore. There is nothing to fear, no stress, no failure state, nothing to worry about. It's just you and your bike Simoon exploring the desert, and it is beautiful. At least when it wants to be - unfortunately, the tutorial (of all places!) is probably where Sable's …

Sable would be a masterpiece if it wasn't so mechanically broken The game works half of the time, movement and camera are awful, most of the puzzles don't function as planned, some mechanics are straight-up broken and the whole thing runs like dogwater with audio cracks and frame skips. I've had to restart the game a few times to progress because something just decided to break: an NPC disappeared, a puzzle stopped …

Just. A soothing, comforting, fantastic game. Wandering the world with Simoon, finding Chubs, meeting new people and learning more about the world, watching Sable discover who she was as a person...all of it was phenomenal. I wish I could forget all of it to play it for the first time again but this game will stay with me for a long, long time.

This game is gorgeous and the soundtrack is very nice. However the gameplay is very slow and very "make your own game". It mostly consists of driving around a fairly empty landscape, and then climbing some towers... with some very obviously inspired by BotW climbing and stamina mechanics. There is no combat, it's exploration for its own sake doing minor tasks that largely seem to be fetch quests. It's an open world, …

Players who liked Sable talk about stunning Moebius-inspired art style; those who didn't talk about frequent bugs and technical issues. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Sable received "generally favorable" to "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Jonathan Peltz, writing for Wired, praised the game as "[...] gorgeous and endlessly GIF-able". Alice Bell of Rock Paper Shotgun, credited the game for looking "[...] fabulous in the flesh" and managing to meet the aesthetic expectations set by trailers and teased content. However, she faulted the game for a number of small irritations, including clunky driving mechanics and difficult navigation, comparing these to the annoyances caused by grains of sand in reality. Inverse's Tomas Franzese praised the game for its relaxing qualities. The Washington Post liked the game's…

neutral · AI labelView post →Cairn is the closest i've played to what Sable was as an experience.A game, less about the end, than about the journey. I loved Sable. The game just drop you into the world, you can finish it quick.. or you can explore and discover yourself. A game that never leave you after you ended it
positive · AI labelView post →Sable is a game about an explorer uncovering secret histories of an alien world and figuring out your place in it. The final task of the game is selecting who you want to be in the world and why. The soundtrack was made by Japanese Breakfast.

neutral · AI labelView post →I often think about how some games don't lend themselves to watching others play them. I've always really struggled watching people play Sable and I think it's because so much of the game experience is about interiority and there's no way to know what players are thinking when they are playing it

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game so much but it is just ruined by bugs, poor optimizations and stutters that just makes it kinda a slog to try and get through. If this game didnt have glitches it would be so good but in its current state its just not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting art design, world, characters, and music, but the writing is the corniest airport-bookstore-soft-romance-core fake deep ♥♥♥♥ I've ever seen in a game. Every single dialogue interaction includes my character's reactions to what other characters are saying; it's sooooo grating and, imo, counter-intuitive to what the game is trying to accomplish. (I don't need to be told that my character's ears are buzzing after I get a new hoverbike.) The game starts out wanting to show and not…

neutral · AI labelView post →I absolutely love the vibe and aesthetic of the game, but I can't recommend it because of severe audio/sound problems. The sound constantly cuts out and distorts while riding the bike, gliding, or picking stuff up. Gliding for some reason also turns the music louder every time for the duration of the glide. Weird bug. Such a shame that 5 years later the game just isn't playable without a headache.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SABLE This game! 👌🏻 @shedworksgreg.bsky.social
positive · AI labelView post →Honestly pretty mundane. Beautiful artistic style unfortunately couldn't save the drag that the game ended up being. Unpolished physics and graphics combined with boilerplate story and gameplay made this game mostly a mid tier experience at best for me. It was easy to get drawn in by the interesting art direction, but I can't say the game was worth my time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta let you know, that is Sable from the first AC game, not new leaf.
neutral · AI labelView post →It kinda pains me to say that this game is overhyped: while the concept of the game is good, the execution is lacking. The intended experience of the game is to use a cool hoverbike to travel between interesting landmarks on a massive map, appreciating the scenery on the journey and the character interactions at the destinations, and a couple little puzzles along the way, but in practice it fails at every step to deliver that experience: The hoverbike handles poorly, moves too slow, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoyed playing this game, I cannot recommend it due to the horrendous performance issues. I tinkered with the few visual settings available in the game and nothing resolved the absolutely bonkers stuttering/FPS drops on both my desktop and Steam Deck. The visuals and music were good enough to make me suffer through the choppy gameplay. Check it out only if (1.) you like collectathon games, and (2.) it's heavily discounted.

neutral · AI labelView post →Sometimes you get a dead by daylight teammate named "Bum Farto" and you spend the entire game constructing insane sentences like "They're chasing Bum Farto" "Sable flashlight saved Bum Farto" "I body blocked for Bum Farto and the killer dced"
neutral · AI labelView post →Brilliant game. It very much invites you to take your time and enjoy the landscape and explore. It is bugs bunny up in here tho, veeery buggy, so depends on your tolerance for those kind of shenanigans. But if you can look past that and dont mind taking your time, you will love this game. Chum Queen out!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanna replay Sable, what a gorgeous game. I love a big open lonely world to nyoom around and explore
positive · AI labelView post →This game has been made by artists who loved the style of Moebius, with a strong inspiration from Breath of the Wild. Sadly, there was no work for the optimization of the game, even 4 years after its release. The writing and the side quests are also lacking in terms of quality and feel generic. It's sad 'cause the feeling of driving a sandbike in a world full of strange and ancient monuments on an alien planet is really interesting. I can't really recommend it because I ended up forcing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be honest and say that it was really Japanese Breakfast doing the soundtrack that really got me to get this game. I really enjoyed it, though I think I found myself slightly disappointed but only due to the marketing this game has received and which I don't think really does it justice. It draws a lot of (accurate) comparisons to Breath of the Wild, though I feel that people coming here expecting a carbon copy of that will be disappointed. The world is here is pretty bare. There are not…

positive · AI labelView post →If I could sum Sable up, it's a pale imitation. It fails to truly capture, or at least put a spin, on Jean Giraud's style of art. The environments lack depth and cohesion. Much of the vegetation lacks fidelity, having flat undefined textures and jagged edges. The default color filter is drab and lacks life. The only sources for shadows in the game are the moon & sun, the shadows cast by them often stretch in an unnatural way and pop in at visible distances, creating a jarring experience.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wholesome game about growing up, sticking to the path and finding your purpose. Sometimes, things can feel like you're going in circles amidst an endless sea of sand, unsure where to go. It is the unexpected family we find among strangers that keeps us going, and the courage and perseverance that takes us there. Lovely soundtrack from Japanese Breakfast- an excellent group- and a very heartwarming tale. Game does feel slightly lacking or barren in some areas; there is no combat (or…

neutral · AI labelView post →Sable is a really interesting case. It's good, not great for my specific tastes. I'm at 80% completion right now. The strong: The moebius-core aesthetic is peak. The world's really atmospheric and lovingly crafted. Full of novel points of interest, and places for you to just enjoy being inside of. I'd be fascinated to visit it in VR. Love everything it's aiming at- an open ended, explorable world not driven by combat or conventional game mechanics. The writing structure is…

neutral · AI labelView post →I liked the Moebius-like art style and the relaxed atmosphere of Sable. I liked discovering all the recordings from the crashed ships and I liked all the Eccria quests. But once I’d completed most of the game it just felt like a tedious collect-a-thon to try and get every achievement and I got a little bored with the open world. Overall I would recommend Sable as a companion game you to unwind from your main games or as a relaxing game you play every once in a while.
