What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 176 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,722 of 2,251 positive).
Many players find Salt a relaxing exploration game with simple graphics. [1][2][3] Some reviewers praise the game's tranquil sailing and open world. [2][4][3] Several players criticize the game as abandoned and unfinished. [5][6][7]

Devs took the money and ran. We were promised so many things that were never put in the game, and now they expect us to buy Salt 2 to get what we were supposed to have in this one. Ahaha, no.

Half baked. Other than the whole sailing and islands thing, it's a super generic open world survival craft. There's no real endgame, there's no real objective. The fact that they shoved this out the door and set up a kickstarter for a sequel is kind of insulting.

Salt is a very relaxing explorer game, and one I have fond memories of playing. The visuals are by no means AAA graphics. But thanks to this, I've rarely, if never encountered any buffering issues with viewing distance, objects spawns as well as no lag nor FPS drops. It's compatible with older PCs (Windows XP or later) you can literally run this game on potato. That makes up for the art. Other benefits I find with …

Salt is primarily a game about exploration and sailing. The graphics are pretty basic but nonetheless often beautiful. The overall feel of Salt is generally tranquil, for example when you're out sailing, fishing, or exploring. It can be a very relaxing game. The combat is also pretty basic, except it can be challenging if you bite off more than you can chew. I personally found this aspect fun, as you can always …

Salt, how to describe this gem of a game? The most chill sailing simulator on the planet, SOT and a lot of other sailing have nothing on this, perfect game to kick back, grab your favourite drink and snack and explore the world. Course there are the occasional bugs here and there but this is what your getting for only 2 bucks: - Land + Sea Exploration - Limitless Open World go wherever you want - Complete random …

Our next title won't be DREDGE 2 but will be exploring a brand new world that the team is eager to share more about in the future.

Chopped ginger and shallots, crushed garlic, a tad of orange juice and some orange peel zest for the cavity. IT WAS SO GOOD.

neutral · AI labelView post →I was introduced to Sea Salt & Paper! today, by a friend playing over on BGA - Which I then promptly taught Joana for our breakfast board game 🥣 It's a really nice, quick game, with a bit of set collection, open drafting, and push-your-luck. She demolished me in our first play 😅 #BoardGames

neutral · AI labelView post →Eh... if you didn't finish 'Salt' properly (IE, the Lavaboots Studios), why would anyone be interested in 'Salt 2'?! Edit 9/29/22: Change my mind, please. Open for discussions. Granted, I liked Salt until it was abandoned. There was no reason to jump to a new game, fix this one with those updates. At a minimum owners of Salt should have a discount for 2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game had potential, then they chucked a finished status on it without finishing it. Now they're asking for money for a second game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I admit I was wrong to dismiss Sea Salt and Paper as looking too simple, and now own my own copy. Any game that can set you cackling with laughter after drawing a single card is good actually.
positive · AI labelView post →Interesting game with potential but abandoned as "finished", dev hopes you don't remember that and throw more money at them for Salt 2
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a decent game, but I don't recommend buying it because the devs don't deserve a dime. They abandoned the game to make a sequel when it obviously isn't even finished.

positive · AI labelView post →Salt was in development for years before it's official release in 2018 and I personally had a lot of fun playing it as shown by my total playtime. It has a decent amount to it and is not intended to be a hardcore game. In regards to the relatively recent spate of negative reviews I feel I should point out that the people who claim the game was abandoned don't know what they are talking about. The devs are a small team of 3 people who listened to what people wanted during it's…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandoned in development to start Salt 2 before this game was ever finished, it's a buggy mess and not worth paying for. I also don't recommend the dev because he literally screwed us on this Early Access by promising everything that ended up in Salt 2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the game. Played 10.4 hours. Uninstalled to wait for further updates...then Salt 2 is coming out. No further development on the original Salt. Yeah, I am not going to give this developer any more money. They lost my trust.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2/10 Really wanted to like this game, but the reality is that it isn't much of a game at all... Concept-wise, Salt is spectacular: sail around an infinite procedurally generated archipelago, surviving off the land and sea, fighting pirates, hunting and exploring. The actual game however, is just not engaging in the least. Your sail boat simply moves forward regardless of the wind direction. You can't even adjust the direction of the sails for RP purposes. There are "pirates" on the…

neutral · AI labelView post →Unfortunately after initial early access release not much has been improved or added, updates were few and far between, in fact I can't recall a single major game changing/enhancing update. I could be wrong about there not being ANY major update but what we have is faaaarr from what was originally promised by the developers... Salt 2 has now been released which I defiantly will not be purchasing now, the "changes" in Salt 2 could have very easily been implemented into Salt, I have watched…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Salt, the cheap mans sea of thieves. This is an abandoned indie game with a short storyline, all this game will have you do is to travel from island to island and searching for loot. With no real character building or environment changing this game will test your luck in finding the right island in a infinity pool of islands to get the right enemy or loot. 3/10 - Simple, abandoned and repetitive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't even know that salt 1 was out of early acces then salt 2 is coming, when salt 3 ?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I owe Salt Lake City an apology. I wasn't really familiar with its game.
neutral · AI labelView post →Damn, I gotta step up my game. I'm dressed Salt Lake slutty, not Seattle slutty
neutral · AI labelView post →How is this considered finished and even if it was how can you be greedy enough to just make a new game instantly without supporting this one? Will make sure to never buy from this dev ever again
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really hate to not recommend this game, I've absolutely enjoyed playing it. However, seeing as that its not going to be updated any longer its just not finished enough to warrant the $15. Here's to hoping they stick to the second one longer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spurs are playing the second game of a b2b tonight here in Salt Lake City, but their injury report is limited to Harris (calf) and Quaintance (recovery from knee surgery). Season is young. And the rout of the Kings allowed them to rest key guys.
neutral · AI labelView post →3/10 - Salt doesn't really get player attention up front and feels very unfinished. I've been on a bit of a survival game kick lately, and when I noticed that Salt was on sale, I went ahead and bought, because it showed up on Extra Credits' "Games You Might Not Have Tried" series quite some time ago. Understand that I'm not blaming them for recommending a bad game, up front they told me that any games on the review aren't necessarily good, but they are interesting in some way - and I will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE the idea behind the game. I had bought this ages ago and recently got back into it thinking maybe it had evolved into something worthwhile. Unfortunately, it seems the time vs update ratio isn't what I expected. Resources are few and far between for a true crafting game, and the islands are rarely of any interest. If you wait until night and go toward the lights you might find something interesting but other than that it's just hours upon hours of not a lot going on. The story line, as…

neutral · AI labelView post →There is some charm to this game but mostly its just empty, boring and tedious. Dont bother with it if you value your time. + Graphics and music are nice and i find the artstyle somewhat charming. + The amount of technical features in this game are pretty impressive for a solo dev. Sailing is pretty cool, building, RPG elements, co op and others. + There seems to be a pretty great variety of items, armours and weapons, enemies and most importantly ships. + Co ops is the main reason i even…
