What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 320 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (5,398 of 5,555 positive).
Players praise Sandustry as a unique, physics-based factory automation game that blends elements from Factorio, Terraria, and Noita. [1][2][3] Many reviewers find the game highly addictive and polished, with some playing for hours in a single session. [4][5][6] Some players note the game currently has limited content and performance issues with large factories. [7][8][9]

I am probably one of the few ones that didn't like the game. While of course the sand mechanics are great and fun, they are not fun for a long time, while the grind is real, some choices for the game mechanics are weird, the size of the map is tiny. Most of my play time was actually the game sitting in the background while I had work to do, yet I still managed to get into the last phase there currently is. I think …

I played through this in just two (admittedly way too long) sessions, the concept is super fun and addicting. It's also one of the most well-polished games I've ever played, getting close to Factorio-levels of technical perfection, even though it's still in early access. Insane to think it's made in JavaScript. You can absolutely feel how much love, care and attention the developer puts into this game. Content-wise …

I'm trying to save money so I've been more careful with my game purchases lately. I try to remain aware of the 2h refund window so I don't get stuck with a game I dislike (happened before). I fired up Sandustry with this in mind, telling myself I'd assess how much I was enjoying it before the 2h were up. My first session lasted 8 hours. Yeah, I think I like it.

so i already have about 47 hours in this on gamepass before finishing it there and buying it on steam for workshop support. i am frankly, completely addicted to this wonderful little game, i do have a minor gripe with it.... those recommended specs don't stand a damn chance at running anything beyond a small factory, i'm about 8 hours into my current factory, just set up smelting copper and i'm down to getting about …

94% of the 320 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sandustry. The complaint that keeps coming up: limited content, can be finished in 10-15 hours. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gaming industry is in a weird spot. It costs insane amount of money to make AAA game, with budgets rivaling small countries, while not being much better than decade ago. Thankfully indie will save us! Or will it? Here we have a nice idea, turned into a game by a single developer. But in indie competition has a different trick: Factorio, Stardew Valley, Terraria all have something, that no amount of passion or great ideas can make up for. And its is no AAA money, it is literally decades of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh no. I ran out of content. Oh no. I hope it gets 10,000 times bigger, deeper and more complex. I want accidental interactions, I want chemical explosions. I want hazards from mismanaging my production and logistics lines. I want genuinely spooky mysteries in the deep deep underground. I think this indicates I enjoyed it? I want more? It is very good. Noitactorio. If there's any flaw to my tastes, it's that (at least for now?) the game has no risks/lose conditions, which I appreciate for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played Sandustry for coming up to 150 hours now, both as a playtester, and an early access content creator. I absolutely adore this game. It does exactly what I want a pixel sand sim to do, and then it has me build the machines to do that? Can't think of a better thing to do with my time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating… and it gets everywhere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the demo for hours, and this is by far the quickest I've ever bought a game. The passion put into this game is incredible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is SOLID even in Early Access Satisfactory + Factorio + Terraria + a sprinkle of Noita. Exploration, creation, physics, fun; I am hooked
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What do you do with sand? Dunk it in water. What do you do with wet sand? Run it over a shaker. What do you do with detritus? Heat it. Sandustry's industrial processes are a straight line. There are no secondary products to manage, just a tech tree shaped like a post. Combine with an endgame that's nothing but manually shooting at a regenerating ball of moss, and it's an underwhelming experience.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played the demo so much and now that it is released I've bought it for my husband and I to play. I love this game it's a unique twist on factory games and I love the physics stuff that went into this game. It's my top game to play and I absolutely love it! I play on the steam deck and it plays wonderfully.

neutral · AI labelView post →Reminds me of that old flash based game called powder game except it’s a factory builder a very interesting concept well worth the $10 I have enjoyed tooling around in it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not an automation game and I will stand by that. Adding a conveyor belt does not make a game an automation game. Nine hours in and there just isn't much automation. You have to mine everything, then go charge up the thermal blocks then charge up more thermal blocks down the line because the flame blocks take way way too much heat per second or something. It felt like constant busy work instead of feeling like I was building on something. I never felt like I was generating anything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Worth it. I wasn't sure what to think going in, It looked like a game that would scratch the itch. "I'll just play this to see what it's like" Whelp, across two sessions I've basically racked up 12 hours. I can't wait to see what this evolves to. It's chill, relaxing, and there's a lot to do. I imagine once I "master" the current content mods will fill the gap, but it's worth a buy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HAD to leave a review for this gem. Got to level 7 in about 18 hours, which is the end of the current content. I broke my "no early access" rule for this indie darling, and it was the right call. Nothing about this feels like early access. Very polished, I don't think I experienced any bugs. The only thing that was not clear to me that I had to look up was the kinematic press. From then on, I didn't need any more guides. The game scales very well, allowing you to quickly move into very large…

neutral · AI labelView post →Crazy good physics based factory automation game. Played 11 hours straight in one sitting. I haven't played something i liked as much as this game for a long time, buy it and just watch some sand getting launched around. Early access content can be finished around 10-15 hours but you can try to optimize your factory even more. Don't listen to people that say things like "I had to wait while the game ran in the background", this is a unoptimized factory builder cry. You can go and try to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not too far into the game, but the first 3 hours sure flew by quickly! This is a quirky little automation game that provides a set of novel problems to solve due to the physics-focused playground it offers. For example, I was running out of water to run my contraptions so I had to heat up an underground reservoir to create steam. This steam would float off into the atmosphere to then rain down into the lake I was working in, filling it back up so I could continue sifting gold from sand.…

neutral · AI labelView post →its very fun - the world is just too small right now, i would not recommend buying it until it is either procedurally generated or the world is made about 5x as large, it does not really feel like its worth putting much time into yet when the bounds are so small
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lastly, I keep being reverse-mugged by Hooded Horse who has slipped yet another game into my inbox, and I still haven't played Corsair Cove yet! This time it's Sandustry! It looks like a mix of Noita and Factorio, which is just an incredible idea. And there is of course a demo for folks to try out!
positive · AI labelView post →Factorio, Terraria and Powder Game, is a combination I had never thought about, yet now that I played it, it seems so obvious. This is a game much like Terraria in terms of gameplay, mechanics and world building, but instead of adventures and boss fights, you build your own factory to extract valuable resources from the world itself and essentially destroy it. It isn’t as complex as Factorio though, so do not expect it to be. Resources are gathered by shoveling, drilling and melting,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sandustry is the first game in years that has managed to keep me glued to my PC until late at night. I love the design and the Factorio-like system, though I have to say this game is much simpler than Factorio, and that's exactly what I liked most about it. The automation/manual balance is really well done. If you're looking for a game where you just automate processes, this isn't for you. Right now the game has limited content and no clear roadmap, so here's hoping for plenty of future updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anybody else playing Sandustry? Unlimited POWAH!. I think I broke the power system. My florinol battery that's supposed to bootstrap into better stuff has been modified with lava to be self-recharging, enough that I can run the laser non-stop at T6. Biggest challenge I faced building this was hauling enough lava up from the reservoir. Tried to take a recording of going wild with the laser, but Sandustry isn't…
positive · AI labelView post →Fantastic game. I highly recommend it. It’s an really fun game and after 55 hours of automating everything and hollowing out the entire map until no earth was left, I can hardly wait for the next updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i've owned the game for just under 72 hours and and i've spent 20 hours of those days playing this game. i think its okay. the systems so far arent as complex as factorio, but the role physics plays makes them sometimes more complicated. the slight randomness of eachh pixel means that you have to build a fair bit of exception handling in your factory. there are solids, liquids and gases all with different masses/densities which sometimes makes seperating resources interesting. i would say…

neutral · AI labelView post →Let me preface this by saying the game isn't bad and I enjoyed what I played. As of release you can complete what this has to offer ~10 hours which is excellent value. Sandustry plays more like a puzzle game than an automation game (if you are like me and don't like viewing YouTube videos of how to optimise things to maximum efficiency before going in). Once you've set something up to sort out the specific material you want you'll never have to touch it again and you just need to work…

neutral · AI labelView post →While the graphics look simple, Sandustry is anything but. Blending the per pixel madness of NOITA, channelling liquid/gas/solid state management from Oxygen not Included and wrapping it in a puzzle like, exploration and factory building game is a genius mix. I feel the current price is far too low for the quality the game represents. I highly encourage you to try the game if any of those above games were enjoyable to you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent so much time with the demo it was an instant buy. I joined the discord after trying the demo and was surprised to see that the developer not only encouraged modding the demo to get more custom content but actively was helping people do so. The music, the gameplay, this is like... factorio but relaxed. I can't even put my finger on specifics, but I love this game. And the price is a steal, I'd have easily paid triple for the satisfaction and joy this game brings me, just managing my…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate it :D I'm barely over my Factorio addiction, and along comes this harmless looking sandbox game... and gobbles up all my free time. It always creates this feeling of urgency (You have to fix this, you have to farm that), and when you barely get on top of things, it throws the next time-sink in your face. If you like a neverending stream of urgent objectives without ever getting a list of objectives and without ever setting a timer, and you wonder how that is possible, play this…

positive · AI labelView post →Can't recommend at the moment. In some ways it's really good with a lot of deep stuff about it that you can easily get lost in. The problem is past the first hour or two in the game everything is really REALLY badly explained in terms of what you need to do. You get an objective to make X, but you've never heard of X, and the game doesn't tell you where you find X or how to make it, whether it is made from a material you already have or is found deep inside caves. As a side note also this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a lot of fun with this. Took around 8 hours to complete the current early access campaign on my first blind run, up through tier 7. Definitely has a lot of potential. The design choice to have production buildings be completely free is incredibly refreshing. The most tedious part of most production/factory games is manufacturing building to manufacture more buildings, so being able to experiment and overdesign without having to manufacture buildings in this game is great. The biggest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't normally review things but this game captured me, just cozy enough to chill and play, with a hearty grind for gold and expansion that kept me awake a few minutes too late more than once. I'm ecstatic to see what this game has to come!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is a good game but it just needs a little more content, good factory builder just not very complex systems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You'll probably like it if you like Factorio-style games. You build, research, improve, rebuild, refine. Building is free so you can experiment. Added: The research is very flat compared to Factorio. The first goals is to get gold, and later energy and some other thing to upgrade your gear. It's fun though.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really great game I just 100%ed it minus the 1 mil gold achievement and it took me 14.8 hours so for this EA launch version you can expect ~11.5 for completing the game and 14.8 for a 99% run. I imagine you could optimize your factory for many more hours though. Really fun nice and relaxing factory game that works a little differently like as far as I could figure out you can not really automate sand/dirt gathering and everything runs off that so it makes a interesting dynamic dirt is also…
