What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 281 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (94,291 of 127,447 positive).
Players praise the game's deep survival mechanics and detailed systems. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the prevalence of cheaters and persistent bugs. [4][5][6] Some players oppose the implementation of ID and biometric collection for anti-cheat. [7][8]

In terms of Survival/Scavenger/Shooter/PVE/Zombies this is the BEST game out there in terms of detail and content, just surviving is fun, nutrients system, detailed injury and sickness system. Just wish they focused more into the single player, Player vs AI aspect, more geared AI running around the map or even AI bases. Because like in any Online PVP game right now the cheaters ruins everything. Focus more in Single …

This is a review from a player with over 12k hours playtime in this game across multiple accounts: I love this game! I’ve been playing from 0.3 and have seen communities grow and crumble. Everything was fine until about 0.7. The game was far from finished and we were seeing a bright future ahead. Then came the cheaters. It got worse and worse. The big anti cheater alliances formed and more cheaters got attracted …

I enjoyed SCUM. But I REFUSE to support or recommend ANY Game that decides to implement ANY form of ID and Biometric collection. No level of this is acceptable, there is no exception and this does not need to become normal. Go to Youtube and search for : SCUM & Playsafe ID: Anti-cheat and privacy Q & A ,watch the devs video on what they are implementing. This does NOT belong in gaming in any form.

As an admin of one of the servers, I have to say that at the moment this game makes almost no sense — apart from its great graphics. The biggest problem is cheaters. They are everywhere: opening locks in seconds, using scripts to locate players, boxes, and other in-game elements. This completely kills the purpose of the gameplay, especially on servers focused on survival, competition, and long-term progression. On …

As much as I want to recommend SCUM, I can’t do so in good conscience. The fundamentals are there, but that’s all they are—fundamentals. This game was not ready for a 1.0 launch, and it’s difficult not to view the release as a management-driven decision aimed at boosting sales rather than reflecting the game’s actual level of completion. Since launch, patches have been mostly corrective, and the roadmap the …
Summarised from 34 of the 324 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked SCUM talk about deep survival mechanics with detailed injury and sickness systems; those who didn't talk about cheaters ruin the experience, especially in PVP. Which matters more to you?

It is a bit like DayZ, but not that outdated, The crafting is nice, the visuals are great, the mechanics are mostly fun. If you know what to do (and the game DOES provide you with hints) you won't die of starvation or infections. You can find plenty of good stuff with ease and patience. However, sadly there are a lot of things that spoil the fun: 1) Mechs They can shoot through solid…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the most stupid concept of a game i have ever seen. why do you make it impossible to play a casual mode with your friend and have to either spend 10 hours to set up your server or "rent a server" to play a game and don;t even own the map unless you keep paying for it? and why do you spawn randomly on a map WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS? AT LEAST LET US HAVE A SANDBOX THAT CAN BE PLAYED WITH FRIENDS, STOP MAKING PEOPLE RENT YOUR DAMN SERVER WHEN WE ALREADY PAID FOR THE DAMN GAME.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will preface the following by saying I have had many good hours in this game otherwise I would not have racked up 6500 hours, but, the last few months, weeks, but in particular days what has transpired with the game, the one thing we have all become too accustomed to, the update, a hotfix and hotfix to the hotfix, and hotfix to the hotfix of the hotfix which still ultimately fixes nothing and long standing in MOST cases for YEARS, the most important bugs are never addressed or truly fixed,…

[The cause of the incident] Just a few days ago, I found that my SCUM account was banned. My first reaction was confusion, because I had never used any cheating software and had not violated the rules of the game. I contacted the official support team of SCUM (Bohemia Interactive Support) at the first time to try…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not fit for the title of 1.0 whatsoever as it's a grindy, basic open world, greedy, buggy mess. I mean... locking a watch behind a paywall? Seriously? Yes I have a ton of hours on this game, No I do not recommend it. This game is my longest hours spent on a survival game. But I can't seem to enjoy this game with it's tedious mechanics any longer. Each update to this game seems to further strip the game of further enjoyability and some problems in the games aspects seem to get ignored.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to love this game, but as long as the new spawn system is there I can't recommend this game ,because it just isn't fun anymore. Current spawn system really breaks the immersion and makes tactical gameplay in PVE non-existent. With the old spawn system going in to any poi required at least some kind of thought like scoping from distance, clearing the land in front of the poi and then proceeding to clear nearby streets before entering desired buildings. But with the current one it's…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honest Review Revisited – 95 Hours of Playtime I originally reviewed SCUM at around 24 hours of gameplay. Back then I said the game had incredible potential, some of the deepest survival systems on the market, but lacked content, direction, and meaningful reasons to keep playing. Developers replied saying more was coming and hoped players like me would return. Well, I did. I'm now sitting at roughly 95 hours played, and honestly my opinion is worse than before. I am not hating on the…

What I cannot understand or accept is that the devs are now pay-walling basic things. Want patches customization for the squad? 7 EUR. Want flags? Better furniture? Custom looks? Pay. Pay. Pay. What is this, the SIMS? I get it that you are drunk on the game's overall success and want even…

One random day you stop running to look in your inventory, you crumple to the ground dead. Some guy who has 10,000 rep points shoots you from a quarter mile away with a scoped rifle. Ever since the Jagex corporate takeover in 2023 SCUM play has been going to crap. neutral · AI labelView post →Game is beautiful but gameplay loop is trash. Zero dev support. More effort being put into microtransactions, cosmetics, and things no one asked for instead of actually fixing the game. Items falling through the map, vehicle damage, map glitches when building, etc are HUGE issues. Even worse for server owners thinking of opening a server. You will constantly deal with complaining players due to the netcode and tick rates that aren't optimized.

For instance, the first time I ever fired I didn't even really need to. I was just behind a zombie that had a hiking backpack and I really wanted to make sure I got him. There was nothing around, no zombie for miles (I made sure to clear first), so I confidently went and popped him with one shot. Bang. Dead. Suddenly, literally out of nowhere, 12 zombies…

The BUGS are unacceptable. In this game you walk, walk, walk, and walk. Looting like crazy for a stupid bug making your chest disappear. You can loose 100 hours of game play with 1 bug. I gave it a try again. Walked 5 days until I had a car. Now driving and 20 KM/h through the city my 100% health car just exploded after hitting something.... WTF???? The AI…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SCUM is that game that starts with a lot of great promise, does some really cool things, and then at some point just completely diverges from what it was doing. Instead, it starts hyperfocusing on random things, entirely forgetting about integral systems or useful content. It begins providing huge amounts of things no one asked for while neglecting basic gameplay elements until it eventually is some hodgepodge mess of systems with no coherency. SCUM is insanely detailed in certain elements of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have approximately 530 hours in SCUM and have invested significantly more than just the purchase price of the base game. I have purchased multiple DLCs, operated two private servers, paid recurring server rental costs, and also paid for third-party server-management services such as WhalleyBot. My experience ultimately ended with what the game identifies as a “Banned by Developers” ban. As a direct consequence, I had to cancel my most recent server. What concerns me most is not simply the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I’ve had some genuinely great moments in SCUM, heart-pounding firefights, long base raids that took hours, and figuring out clever ways to crack bases that seemed impossible. The potential was enormous, but over time, the developers kept pushing the game in directions that hurt more than helped. Systems nobody asked for were added, features that players actually enjoyed were stripped away, and the overall experience became needlessly complicated. neutral · AI labelView post →I've played quite a bit to get a feel for the game. I've enjoyed getting to know it more over time. It certainly has been engaging. The reason for the negative review howerever is due to a serious bug that the devs seem unable to fix. Sometimes when you die you cannot recover your body. It just isn't there. You get your weapons (what was in your hands / back holster slots) but the body itself is just gone. I've had it happen repeatedly around bunkers. I have lost multiple sets of full gear.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The development process is just too slow. SCUM took so much time to get where it is that everything now feels clunky and outdated. It has lost its original vision, and instead of fixing core issues, progress just feels stagnant. It’s hard to recommend a game that feels old before it’s even fully finished.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most unrealistic "realistic" survival game out there. Zombies are spawning literally next to you and you're not able to do anything same applies for the NPCs which are way deadlier. I'm not even talking about "Suicide puppets" spawning literally next door while you're in a bunker and you die due to that. How does clothing and everything stored inside them get BROKEN (even firearms) by a puppet hitting you with its BARE HANDS? I could go on and on. Very disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very Disappointing I really wanted to like SCUM, but after spending hours in it, I’m left more frustrated than entertained.
