EARLY ACCESS REVIEW After playing for an hour or two here are my thoughts about this game. -Pros- * As a seafarer myself i can tell that the simulation of the ship manuever is very realistic but simplified * Good attention to details, example RADAR is not only for bridge cosmetics, is functional. ECDIS too. * I like the progression system in place. Starting small and going further, leveling, job variety. You dont …

Oh look a bunch of players that didn't read the "early Access" banner. Yea, there's some bugs and optimization needs work, but the team knows that and openly engages the community about it on the Discord. If you like the idea of a ship sim, check this one out. It has the best water since Atlas (I know) and loads of mechanics that other games haven't tried implementing. I've got a lot of boat games and this one is …

Interesting idea, I really wanted this to be the ship simulator anyone like me actually wants. It's not. It's clunky, it leans into being too "gamey" without the trade off of actually being fun. The map is small. You're only limited to the single player mode or generic premade missions. No options to make your own voyages. This isn't a ship simulator or even a ship game that really reaches what anyone looking for …

27 hours played. I wanted this game to succeed. The maritime sim genre has been starving for a modern title since Ship Simulator 2008 was benched, and when I saw "The Ship Sim" in the title I thought this was finally it. It isn't. The game is visually impressive — no argument there. UE5 with WaveWorks 2.0 makes for beautiful water and the ship interiors are well done. The devs deserve credit for tackling a genre …

Not Recommended (Early Access) "Great potential, but currently stuck in shallow waters." I really wanted to love this game. As a fan of the maritime genre, I know how rare it is to find a decent ship simulator, but Seafarer: The Ship Sim currently feels like it’s having an identity crisis. The Issues: - Poor Optimization: Even on a mid-level rig, the game suffers from significant lag and frame drops. It clearly …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good idea but very, very early access. Seafarer feels like your generic unreal engine game...basic assets, very unrefined. Needs significant optimization - for reference I am playing on a 9800x3d, RTX 5080 and get about 40 FPS while the game doesn't look very good. Shaders are poorly optimized, windows glitch out graphically in third person, and screens are very blury and poorly rendered. Theres a lot of potential here and this may be a great game down the road, but right now its very far…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: 9/27/2026: I spent a few more hours on this game and my previous review still stands and is below. This game is still clearly more arcade then sim. The ships bridges are still tacky and arcady looking with most equipment inop. Menus are still confusing and tutorials barely explain enough. They seem to have improve the weather as I did sail through a decent storm that tossed my ship around some, which is an improvement. Yet my boat still seems to have no wake or prop wash. Most outside…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The current version is not close to being a realistic ship simulator. To date, I have noted the following issues/deficiencies 1) Wind Speed - mariners use "Knots" for wind speed, not m/s 2) Wind Direction - changes rapidly and at times significantly. Have never experienced this at sea and it renders prudent seamanship, in heavy weather, virtually impossible. In heavy weather, the ship's course and speed are adjusted to ease the passage and minimise vessel damage. It is not an exact science,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Chief Engineer, I always look for simulators that capture the complete essence of a vessel. A vessel isn't just a 3D model that floats; it's a complex and living industrial plant, where the engine room is the heart. It's rare for me to find a simulator that dares to look below the main deck. "Seafarer: The Ship Sim" is in Early Access and, while it has a long way to go, it has done what few dare: it has given us an engine room. The developers didn't treat the engine like an "on/off"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy it yet unless you have an insane gaming rig. Just look at the recommended specs. There is no way it is acceptable to asked for a 12GB GPU for that kind of game. My computer run MSFS2024 in high and DCS in VR, but I cannot run this game in 1080p, medium setting, and have more than 25 fps ? Come on guys... Even in epic setting, apart from being a slideshow, it does not look particularly good. Let's wait for them to optimize that A LOT.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all i think it's right to mention the positives: - The graphic is quite good, and the game doesn't seem to suffer from performance issues - The map is quite big and the harbors are detailed But then there are all the negatives: - The sea is completely flat 90% of the time, giving no opportunity for the ships physics to shine. - The ships control are ridiculous at best, it is a really big streatch to call a "simulator" a game in which a huge ship has less the 10 working button in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you expect a level of microsoft flight simulator for ships, then don't. It's one of those generic "simulator" level games on steam which stale fast because lack of depth. - Most of bridge gauges and switches are just a placeholders without any functionality - performance optimisation is terrible - for some reason, i can't get the same graphic quality like in the steam store picture. i have everything maxed out - map is just a gigantic lake (like black sea) - no passenger duty (scenic tour,…

So, i'll do that now since others aren't capable and write reviews after .6 hours of playing when they hadn't even saw 80% of the game. This IS a ship sim, and there is a lot more to it then what is first noticed. You will be doing a lot in the game from loading/unloading your ships using cranes, to making engine repairs. Operating cranes can be fun, I really like the bulk cranes and you'll…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a long review, so I'll put a TLDR at the end. I do not often write reviews but I do think this game has potential and so I'd like to point out where it needs improving. I do not believe this game is up to scratch right now, and there is a long way to go before I believe I can recommend it as a good ship simulator. It is a good starting point, and I do commend the developers for the work they have put in so far. The missions are pretty good, with a good range of different activities…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game has insane potential. insane. but.. there is a lot of room for improvement. first of all, bow and stern thrusters are unusable, big minus. physics are okay but still wind and currents dont feel realistic. as a captain myself, i would absolutely recommend this sim but after fixing a few major things including adding thruster controls, better horn controls, sinking, radar, rescue missions, realistic navigation lights, possibility to remove all containers from herbert, custom ship naming, tug…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Astragon Entertainment sets sail again with Seafarer: The Ship Sim, but this voyage feels more like a slow cruise through calm waters than an exciting adventure. It’s overly guided, surprisingly dated for 2025, and lacks the depth or freedom you’d expect from a modern simulator. It’s not a bad game — just an unremarkable one. The visuals are serviceable, the performance is fine, and the price is fair, but it never really hooks you. It’s the kind of game you play once, nod politely at, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is far from a sim and more an arcade ship game. The physics of the water is terrible! Overall it is a very boring game that I wasted my money on. I will return in a couple of years to see how it is, but for now I am uninstalling it. EDIT: Just reinstalled it to give it another chance and this time I finally got to see how much waste of time and money it is. Time to bury this one in the Tomb of Shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for this. It has turned into a multiplayer game, requiring you to join with others. I don't play that way. I wanted a single player game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it minutes after the release and was extremely disappointed. I was even ready to run it on low setting with FSR if at all the game was runnable. But this is not ready for even Early access. Also please provide a setting to turn off motion blur. Its a feature most people don't need and it hogs the performance plus with a choppy render, it causes nausea. At the current state, game is extremely choppy and unplayable. I'm not sure what kind of NASA computers the devs run in the demos but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The important thing to get out of the way before reading the rest of this review is that this game is in early access, everything i review is subject to change (and hopefully will). Let me start off by stating the obvious, as many others have, the game is poorly optimized and the graphics are not on-par with what you would expect from such a large studio as astragon in 2025. Have a look at titles such as Ships at Sea, Bodycam or even Roadcraft and you can clearly see them put this game to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seafarer: The Ship Sim isn’t really a game. It feels like a tech demo with potential but little depth. The mechanics are basic, and the gameplay loop gets repetitive fast. Hauling cargo means loading a few crates, sailing from point A to point B, unloading, and repeating. Tugboat operations are the same thing in reverse, only now you are moving a hauler that cannot maneuver on its own (even though you did that same job yourself minutes earlier). AI tugboats handling docking would add realism…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, most of the things I first talked about, has been fixed and the game is working quite fine now. But for me it's not really a game that hooks me to it. Here's my experience: Why do jobs where you run your own ship and has to do maintenance etc. + spend time on sailing and steering the ship (Fast forward is available, but you still have to park it etc.)? When you can just do loading or off loading of containers on other ships, and get the exact same payment for that in shorter time? Well,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For 19.99€ I’m enjoying it so far. Yeah, it definitely needs some optimization and polish, but that’s what Early Access is for. Underneath the rough edges there’s already a really solid ship sim. The ships feel good to handle, the atmosphere is relaxing, and you can see a lot of potential in where this game could go. A lot of people are leaving negative reviews, but I think that’s because they expect a finished game on day one. If you like ship simulators and don’t mind a bit of early…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's early access so I get the performance issue but they make it look like as if it's the Microsoft flight simulator of ships. it's not. it's EXTREMELY arcady and very unrealistic. it's even lacking some fundamental futures like a separate first and third person FOV slider, Autopilot navigation, very clunky controls, absolutely bad face animation. ship games are enthusiastic game like flight sims. you gotta be able to INTERACT with the machine. feel them and enjoy operating them for long…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game can't run smoothly without a 4070 GPU or higher... If you have a GPU lower then 4070, i should not recommend to play this game. U can't even see the boat clear...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refunded: Not a simulator in any shape or form. If you've ever wondered what it's like to have a helicopter parent telling you how to play a game, look no further than this annoying adventure game mislabeled as a simulator. Nevermind the bugs and crashes: it's Early Access. Bugs and optimization issues are to be expected. The problem is that the game itself is terrible in its design. Yes, you pilot boats. That doesn't make it a simulator any more than Red Dead Redemption is a horse-riding…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really good start! I know the reviews have been mixed, but for what the game is: A CASUAL ship simulator with intuitive controls and a high level of accessibility, I think this is a very good start. To the DEVS: What I would like to see: - A bilge system that requires monitoring and gradual ship onboard water level intake that requires management, especially on larger vessels. - More crew functionality. I would like my Officer assigned to the helm to be able to avoid, or at least call…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a game, no idea why the reviews are mixed... I am only 3 hours in but I cant put it down lol. Graphics are top notch and the gameplay is not far behind, a few tiny bugs but nothing more. 9/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently a shallow game with nice graphics and wave simulation but definitely not a "sim". I hope the dev team will ditch their plan of working on the useless photo mode to focus on building much more realism.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runs like straight poop from a butt and it's not a simulator BUT if you are looking for an arcadey ship game then this is perfect. if you are looking for a simulator then go for ships at sea or stormworks
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I nearly didn't buy this because of the negative comments about performance. That's strange, because it performs fine at 1920x1200 on my 11 year old 4790k/1080ti system with all settings on high. I just finished the first tutorial level and so far, all good, and gameplay met my expectations.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should be called Seafarer: The Cargo Loading Sim because that's what you'll be doing 90% of the time if you want to sail the larger ships. Very repetitive gameplay and very slow progression when it comes to increasing level, reputation, and earning money. The game needs passenger ships and passenger missions. The graphics are okay. Ships and ports look good, even the water looks okay. The wake your ship makes looks absolutely horrible. I want to like this game because there really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think instead of adding features they should first focus on gameplay, half of the features are not fully worked out. Bad optimazion, broken campaign, arcade like repetetive gameplay. Hope they will improve because the game has potential.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's been enjoyable so far. There has clearly been some love put into the modelling of the towns and ports. The weather and sea looks great and can be beautiful at times. Having said that, there has been some decisions here that are simply unbelievably bad. It just needs some glaring issues fixed and pretty quick. There's too much focus on repetitive tasks that soak up time rather than spending time on the open sea. The grinding of having to unlock or lock 96 twistlocks on the cargo…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poor game. Poorly done in every way. I supported the game until it became obvious agenda was more important than fixing issues.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's American Truck Simulator... at sea. And it's exactly what it looks like... drive big ships around, load cargo, unload cargo, drive again. Been waiting for a (quality) game like this for a very long time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand what the game wants. I sail into a harbour (Fort Westport) in the Herbert and get the message that I've discovered it, but when I go to my Tablet, that harbour is still locked and I can't view the available cargoes. The only two harbours that are unlocked are Mettington (which has Oil on offer at 165) and Sandham (which wants Oil but only at 154) so I would lose money on each cargo. In earlier sessions I've ended up soft-locked at the end of a mission where the last step is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sry but politics have no business been in a simulator type game. where their are other problems devs should focus on
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ETS2 - but in the water. A lot of people are complaining that this is more arcade than sim, and they have a point. The natural evolution of this title would be to add (optional and incremental) 'realistic' sim mechanics. That said - you could really level the same criticisms at ETS2, and that title seems to be doing quite well. For me, it is simple - am I enjoying playing a game? If I am (as in this case), it gets a thumbs up. The devs seems quite active in adding patches and new…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No wonder the mixed reviews... Many people complain the simulation is not that realistic, engines behave and perform unrealistically and the sea itself also has some generous nature to it. But that was fine by me, after all, I was looking for something more relaxed, yet detailed enough to enjoy, and seeing the screenshots with the interiors of these big ships, thinking it would mean I could manage the ships with proper immersion, it quickly got my attention! But as it turns out, most of most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its no simulator!!! very Arcade!!! long press k to dock and 1000 tonne ship glides into place like paper... wich is bad enough. but the breaking point for me was towing a massive LNG tanker and it kept trying to pass me at a steady speed as there is no water resistance! the final straw was that very same ship under tow gets YEETED accross the harbor from a tiny cabin cruiser that decided the massive ship in its way was of no issue and didnt exist!!! just get STORMWORKS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems like the game still needs some improvements. The controls are somewhat difficult, especially when reversing, which is nearly impossible at times. In my previous ship sim experience, there was a system for docking and undocking, and I feel this game lacks that feature. Currently, there are only a few vessels to choose from, and you cannot select different types of ships. I hope future updates will include various vessel types like general cargo ships, bulk carriers, and tankers. If…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I played this for a few hours just to see if it's as bad as the other reviews would lead you to believe And I found it to be nothing but enjoyable. A decent start from an early access game! Are there some realism mechanics missing? Sure. Does it make it unplayable? Absolutely not. For someone who's been waiting for a decent ship simulator game since 2008, this is definitely scratching the itch and promises to be a regular game in my roster for the foreseeable future.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, I honestly don't have words for this game. How exactly did they capture the release trailer footage? Because at "Epic" graphic settings, the textures and edges of items is so terrible, that it genuinely will give you a headache. I can't even read the instruments in my ship, the screens are PIXELATED. The characters are half baked, no mouth movement or attempt at realism. The physics are arcadey and whack as all syllables; for instance, pushing a boat into the dock with my tug boat? Oh…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing for 22hrs (no where near finished the game yet) i think this game has the potential to grow. Early Access version of this game is very well done, better than most Early Access game releases in terms of content, Performance and lack of bugs. There are many opportunites available for this game to increase the aspect of gameplay and im excited to see where the game goes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent $15 to play crane simulator. Remove us having to do the loading or some way to speed it up bc i spent 25 minutes just loading containers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping for some fun sailing, then pride month came and the politics and virtue signaling. Went from a ok game to just fall flat. Why cant they just NOT do this ♥♥♥♥, it's beyond me. No matter what you like, who you like, what you are, what color you are, You're human and represented, stop with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ politics. It's lightweight but it's there and therefore it's to much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is not the subscription free Nautis ship sim I was hopeful for, but once you get your settings dialed in (whack down global illumination) it is quite an enjoyable chill game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm surprised by so many negative reviews. I'm enjoying the tutorials so far. Game does need some optimizing, I'm getting ~60fps but that's on a beefy system, RTX5090, 7800x3d, 64GB 6000 RAM, and it's making my GPU work hard for that 60fps on the highest graphics settings. People saying it's boring? Not sure if they were expecting GTA5-like boat chases, but operating boats is slow and methodical in real life. Overall I'm happy with what I see, and look forward to future development. I'd…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have played for 15 hours now and it needs more things you can do also hopefully in the future be able to have the AI unstrap/strap down your load and load/unload your vessel. Does have full potential for a great game. Keep up the good work DEVS
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of simulation games, I was really looking forward to Seafarer: The Ship Sim. The concept of navigating the seas and managing a fleet sounded like a dream come true. Unfortunately, my experience has been a bit of a mixed bag. First off, the graphics and overall design are quite impressive. The environments are beautifully rendered, and you can really feel the immersion when you’re out on the water. However, that’s where the positives seem to end for me. I’ve been facing constant…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving this, yes its got its bugs and needs optimized, but its an EAG. This game handles every type of vessel well, small, medium, large or insanely gigantic, everything has its own feel to it. The detailed interiors are great, the ability to walk around your ship is a breathe of fresh air especially with how detailed the interiors are. I was expecting a bridge and maybe some random hallway, but youve got a bridge, multiple decks with some rooms and an engine room to explore that breaks up the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. Bridge and Engine Room Manning: The vessel is unrealistically operated under a single‑handed watch, requiring one person to simultaneously manage bridge navigation and engine room monitoring. This contradicts standard STCW manning requirements and undermines the realism of bridge resource management. 2. Bridge Operations: - Helm and control inputs are overly simplified, lacking the complexity of real conning orders or engine telegraph commands. - Speed management is sluggish, with the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's keep this simple... Since Ship Simulator Extremes became unplayable I've been wanting a replacement, and I've tried many pretenders. This one is it, it's that same gameplay hook. The right level of things to do, the right feel, everything about it is what I've been waiting for. It's first release EA but even so things like the UI (radial menu) and controls (crane, thrusters) are really intuitive and nice. So happy I took the plunge, if you miss SSE, dive in :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept of the game is really fun. As a seafarer myself the game does make sense However, I'd honestly love to see a cruise ship and river boat modes, more active NPCs as currently they just stand there and do absolutely nothing, Launchable life boats, crazier weather, bridge alarms. There's so much that can be done with this game honestly. When you complete jobs I do wish you get taken back to the port you started in as sometimes you have to sail 15 NM to get back to port with minimal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR: This game looks great and has a wide variety of ships and jobs, ranging from cargo, search and rescue, just boating around. It currently strikes an odd balance between ETS2/ATS and a more hardcore sim with weird gameplay inclusions like crane operation, engine matience, and cargo tiedowns. As it currently stands if you're looking for a slightly arcedy ship simulator, I highly recommend this, if you're looking for a 9-5 ship captain/dock worker job simulator, this isn't it. This game…
