Sentinels of the Multiverse
Developer Handelabra Games Inc.
Sentinels of the Multiverse is a cooperative card game published by Greater Than Games and released at Gen Con 2011. Players control a team of comic book-style heroes battling a villain. Each player controls one or more heroes, while a villain and environment deck each run themselves. A given game includes 3 to 5 heroes, 1 villain and 1 environment, which can be mixed and matched to create a number of different… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,513 of 1,687 positive).
Players praise the faithful digital adaptation of the cooperative card game. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game has a steep learning curve and can feel unbalanced. [4][5][6] Several players highlight the game's depth and variety of heroes, villains, and environments. [7][8][9]

Multiplayer now forces every player to own a DLC in order to play a hero from that DLC.

This is one of those games that at first glance looks bad, the graphics aren't the best but the actual game play is fantastic. Your first round your probably going to lose hard, once you learn more about how characters interact your going to realize that you are in-fact the boss. Give this game a shot, if you like card games your going love this game I have no doubt. 9/10 art is my only negative

Even though I have been playing this game since 2016, for some reason, I never wrote a review. That changes today. This is a fantastic adaptation of the beloved cooperative card game. You play as a team of three to five heroes against a villain in an environment that can hinder or help you. Each of the heroes are well designed and play uniquely from each other; there's a wonderful mixture of damage dealers, support …

A great old card game with a wonderful setting & characters, totally revolutionized boss battlers as a board gaming genre. Not perfect, but absolutely deserves 5 stars in my book. When the sequel comes out, that IS perfect and will deserve 50 stars.

Sentinels of the Multiverse, in its digital form by Handelabra Games Inc., faithfully adapts the cooperative tabletop card game into a polished PC experience that preserves the spirit, structure, and strategic depth of the original. At its core, the game places you in command of a team of uniquely designed superheroes, each represented by a fixed deck of cards that determines their abilities, personality, and …

88% of the 186 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sentinels of the Multiverse. The complaint that keeps coming up: multiplayer requires all players to own DLC. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Sentinels of the Multiverse has been well received by players and critics since its launch, with Tom Vasel of The Dice Tower podcast giving it the #1 slot in his "top 30 games to look out for from Gen Con 2011", and the review blog Giant Fire Breathing Robot awarding it "Board Game of the Year: 2011". Y for TTRPGs for me is CAIN, where its a investigative horror game that encourages creative and interesting solutions to solve mysteries.
positive · AI labelView post →Wow. They have two very popular game series: Sentinels of the Multiverse and Spirit Island. Hopefully everyone who was at the company lands on their feet and the amazing games they put out can live on at another publisher.
neutral · AI labelView post →I really wanted to enjoy this game. Tried for a long time to unlock variants permanently only to have some of them be straight up not working. Today was the last straw. As of today, I can no longer recommend this game. It is no fun alone, no one I know wants copies, and AGAIN, I am tired of RNG being the only reason I'm not unlocking things. I rather it be use X to beat Y at Z or groups or teams or something.

positive · AI labelView post →Played a game of Sentinels of the Multiverse on my iPad tonight. Makes me realize how horrible the timers are in the game if you haven't played in a while. Too quick to read cards, and most other times you need to click to advance. Got trounced by Omnitron.
negative · AI labelView post →It's a card game rather than a board game (but still within the tabletop sphere so I think it still fits): I absolutely love Sentinels of the Multiverse. It's by the same people who made Spirit Island, which I believe is more well-known. It's a cooperative game where you play as superheroes working together to take down a villain. Aside from the game itself being a lot of fun, there's a bunch of hidden story and lore within the card art, and the creators even have a podcast where they create…
positive · AI labelView post →The game looks like it could be a lot of fun, but it's so painfully slow... The tutorial was so annoying to follow and yet I did not have the ability to read all either. At this point I'm not sure why bothering again. I can;t understand the global rating, maybe fans of the board game or playing multiplayer? The played just fine on Linux, thanks for that!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Sentinels of the Multiverse" is a fairly popular board game (within those circles) and it looks pretty rough. Pokemon S/V got rightfully dunked on for looking like shit but it still made a bunch of money. "The Case of the Golden Idol" is highly regarded. Runescape.

I used to own a complete physical collection, as well as a complete copy on my phone; both were destroyed, and I lived without for two years rather than buy the whole game a third time, but heck, it's worth it. positive · AI labelView post →Hearing the news about Greater Than Games is honestly devastating. Sentinels of the Multiverse was a core game for me getting introduced to board games and is the reason I have met some of the people in my life. I am just ... ugh.
positive · AI labelView post →By contrast, look over at the Sentinels of the Multiverse universe their resident "Batman" expy, Wraith by the time of the RPG (taking place after the events of the card game) has mostly retired from superheroing and IS making societal impact making the world better.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game comes with barely enough to be called a game, all the content is apparently in the DLC and "expansions." In addition to being criminally light on content, it's a poorly balanced deck fighter with only a series of one-off battles after which you just load up a new fight and change a few variables. No campaign, no storyline at all, just 1 fight win or lose, rinse and repeat. UI and artwork are pretty poor to boot, stock music and effects round out a very underwhelming gaming…
