The game promises intense combat and tactical depth in one of the bloodiest locations of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The idea of being able to play both sides of this historical conflict - be it against the AI, in the hot seat or in the PBEM - sounds tempting and gives the player the opportunity to relive history in an engaging and interactive way. The strengths:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game mainly because I live in Shanghai and was curious to see how the city’s history was portrayed. The game has a nice setting and some interesting mechanics, especially with the way unit activation works. That said, it’s definitely not the most user-friendly game, and the tutorial could be better. It feels more like an old-school wargame than something modern - meaning that the learning curve is steep. If you have the desire to learn it, you might find yourself enjoying this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent game using the proven SGS system and in the battles sub-series. New to the offering is a basic tutorial where you play the Nationalists in a half turn battle. Make a mistake? redo it. This could prove helpful to those who find the system challenging to start. I might suggest SGS provide something similar going forward for new games and back fit to older titles. Only thing I can find as a negative, there are fewer scenarios than I've come to expect from SGS. Maybe some can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early days but I really like this game. It is I think one of the more interesting titles in the SGS battle range, it is not just a land battle. This is largely down to conducting naval landings of Japanese forces along the coast, which then have to fight their way through the opposing Chinese military in order to relieve the besieged Japanese garrison in Shanghai. It is important to keep Supply lines open. There are also naval units for both sides which fight for control of the river and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely unplayable game, tutorial is way too simple, doesn't explain the game mechanics at all. It's completely random when you need to right click vs. left click. Outcome of battles is completely random. All the units freeze up randomly. Messaged developers multiple times for help and get no response. I have over 200 games in my account, many in the strategy and tactics genre. This is a scam in the current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The system is different. You need to control what units do you want to move and fight.
