Like many of the other reviews stated, the game is broken. I spent a good 30 minutes to an hour reading the negative reviews and crying laughing at how ridiculous the bugs are. So I'll contribute my experience too for others' entertainment. To set the scene, you start a sandbox game loading a pre-made map you've spent 3-5 minutes waiting for to load. Finally finished roleplaying the down-on-his-luck detective …

I used to LOVE this game. I'd lock in for hours solving murders and kidnapping cases. I've recommended it to all my friends, who became interested in the game solely because of how much I raved about it. Sure, there were bugs here and there, but that happens with games. The game was fun enough, and the bugs weren't bad enough to ruin anything. I no longer feel that way. Every game I load into is bugged. Passwords …

16 hours in Shadows of Doubt, and I've got mixed feelings. Watching someone play this? Absolute cinema it's like a noir detective movie where every clue matters. Actually playing it? That's a different story. The immersion is insane, the procedural city feels alive, and piecing together murder cases is genuinely satisfying. But man, the UX is clunky, the inventory system is a mess, and sometimes the game just …

I have... mixed feelings about this game. Conceptually, I think Shadows of Doubt is one of the most well thought out and mechanically rich detective games that exist. It holds a lot of interesting concepts, a world that allows for a lot of recycling and replayability, and a general style that works quite well in my opinion. Notice I said conceptually though. At its core, shadows of doubt is a game about potential. …

Critics, per Wikipedia

Describing the early access version of Shadows of Doubt as "incredibly refreshing", Rachel Watts of Rock Paper Shotgun praised the game for its "thrilling" sleuthing and advantages over scripted detective games, commending the "hands-off" design of the game in spite of its "overwhelming" pacing and investigation failures. Zoey Handley of Destructoid found the game to have "amazing" potential, citing the game's "believable" and persistent world and "fun" casework, but noting the game's state was "pretty rough" and "can sometimes break in interesting ways and defy logic". Whilst praising the game's "fun" gameplay loop and "impressive" open-ended design, Liv Ngan of Eurogamer found Shadows of…

TL;DR: This was once one of the most promising Early Access games I have ever played. Unfortunately, the developers seem unwilling to keep their promises or fix the game’s fundamental problems. Shadows of Doubt presents itself as a sandbox detective noir game, and in some ways, it truly is. I have rarely experienced atmosphere as strong as this. The semi-futuristic neon-noir city is downright hypnotic: wandering through rain-soaked alleys at night, pushing past crowds, or dialing a new…

A game with this kind of atmosphere and ambitious gameplay only occurs every once in a while - which makes it all the more disappointing as to how this turned out. Throughout early access it was a promising, if buggy, piece of art. But then the developers rushed a 1.0 release - and not only did not fix many game-breaking bugs, but introduced new ones, completely ignored their promise of integrating Steam Workshop, and over night this game went from "keep on your radar" to "basically…

This used to be a fun game but after many updates the game kinda just falls apart, I've completed the game once before early access ended and came back to do another playthrough but it is near impossible to complete now due to how buggy the case generation works, some contract cases only give you minor evidence such as blood type and height and expects you to figure out who that person is. some contracts require the player to talk to a person in an echelon zone which requires a later game…

Shadows of Doubt is a procedurally generated detective simulation. I respect what it attempts, but I don’t see a game here. It isn’t a typical game but a world simulation, and I’m a sucker for those. It generates a city block with hundreds of people who have lodgings, jobs and relationships. They follow schedules and go to offices, restaurants, and so on. Then one of them commits a murder or two, and your job as a detective is to solve it. There are many immersive elements: your character can…

Shadows of Doubt has the perfect basis for a really solid detective game If you actually would play a detective instead of a robber or a bully Everything about this game has potential but said potential never gets fully realized, and its disheartening honestly. The Enforcers are basically useless and are just there to come if someone gets murdered or kidnapped to tape the area and guard the door. They could be more interesting if I could bribe them to make my own crimes go away. If they…

This one is going to be a difficult one, and I wish there were a neutral option. Due to the lack of it, I have to lean toward no. The biggest problem with this game is that once you understand the mechanics behind the cases, you can solve most of them in minutes simply because you know how everything works. Business card? Put a pin in it? At this point, we already know that you only need to look at the company they worked for and you will find the culprit. There are also cases that bug out or…

The last work of Michel Angelo, Pieta Rodanini, is one of his most beautiful statues, yet it has one problem: it is clearly unfinished, as the artist died while creating it. This game feels like Pieta Rodanini, or like Santiago de Compostela. The simulation is breathtaking, and the amount of possibilities and items is crazy. But... you quickly realise, that you can't do anything with that. If only the quests were of the same quality, if only the game was ANY challange, if only the upgrade…

The game is pretty fun when you are just starting out and discovering everything. It's also pretty unique and tries something that is the game industry is really lacking right now. I'd recommend it if the devs were trying to improve it, but that does not seem to be the case, so I'll judge it as a finished product. For something that calls itself a "immersive detective simulator", this game isn't immersive at all. The worst offender is probably the complete lack of consequences for player…

I took a break because it was pretty jank last time I tried to play, figured we'd had a few major updates and some serious bug fixes since, let me give it another try. Started the curated Tutorial, to remind myself how to play. Make it as far as the murdered guy's apartment. This game is unfinished in the most frustrating way. Information you get from asking people is too vague to be useful, and the on paper information is either useful or not. You will constantly overshoot your expectations of how complicated a case is. And the mechanics of the game do not lend itself to exploring a case in any interesting way. Your dialogue options are extremely limited. Find the kidnap victim on accident? Great moment. Now why cant I ask the victim who might be after them, or…

Do not believe the negative reviews kvetching about the game not being finished or being too buggy. There is no game out there like this and it's not nearly as broken as some of the people here would have you believe. One of my favorite things to do in this game is put a tracker on somebody, follow them around, learn their routine, break into their house when they aren't home, collect personal information, and misplace things in their house slowly to make them think they are going insane. Eventually I start breaking in while they're sleeping and take pictures of them. Then, I start breaking things and leaving garbage in their house. Instead of focusing on the unique selling point of this game, the actual cases and procedural content, the devs are preoccupied with graphics and the absolutely irrelevant "survival" mechanics. Coming into the game completely blind, I was immediately blown away by the tutorial case which led me through so many euphoric "aha" moments. Look, maybe I'm just terrible at stealth games, but I cannot seem to manage any sort of activity whatsoever in this game without being detected and then immediately shot, stabbed, or beaten to death. It's such a shame, because the investigative aspect of this game is phenomenally done. I think if the developers leaned into the detective piece more and relied less on garbage stealth gameplay, this would be an amazing game. As it stands, this game is wildly frustrating for no good reason.

In it's current state, Shadows of Doubt is entirely too dependent on RNG and procedurally generated content to be consistent enough to enjoy, often soft locking the player in impossible-to-solve cases that force you to either load an old save, or more commonly, need to start a whole new playthrough. No one cares about a modifier for your save if the save itself is in danger from the bugs and adding workshop support as a final update feels like theyve given up on the game and are leaving it to the players to fix it. I really tried to like this game, but in the end I'm turned off by the proceduraly generated context and because the detective part is missing for the most part. Interviewing witnesses or looking for motives is not necessary. Just scan for fingerprints and search for everyone in the address book to find the person with those fingerprints. NPCs are incredibly uncooperative and barely want to share their own name, let alone tell something useful about the murder.

I really want to recommend this game, but theres just one huge issue that I keep running into that makes it just not fun. The detective work is amazing, but when it comes to actually arresting the person its literally everyone vs. the player. The NPC's aren't expected to obey the law and it's like they're all best friends. You go to arrest one person and every random NPC in the area will immediately jump onto you. I've been a pro investigator for many years and I like the work enough to invest in steam games of the detective genre. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game. This game is SO CLOSE to being perfect and epic. Like its painful but there is really only one key flaw. Speaking to witnesses is basically useless. The logic games in fingerprint matching and tracking people down are very much parallel to the types of snafus I like about investigating in my day job. Even with procedural generation, there are cases…

The devs pretty much abandoned this game because they didn't win the Labor of Love award, which is the exact reason they didn't win. I loved this game so much for its potential but it's so deeply unfinished and buggy, it's an insult to everyone who's supported it to claim it's not still in early access. It's fun for a few hours and no game really captures that dystopian detective setting without a linear narrative, but it doesn't take long before you hit a game breaking bug and have to start…

You download the game, and you get your first case. Maybe you're a smart person that tried the tutorial first. It's information overload, some poor shmuck is dead and time is counting down. The rainy hard streets of La- I mean XI YONGPONG 2105 get colder by the minute... But hey, at least you've got a refreshing can of STARCH KOLA. You begin your search and quickly realise you are in under your feet. There's hundreds of people all with different names, ages, addresses, personalities,…

Ignore the reviews of "dead ends" and all that, it is 99% of the time entirely a skill issue and impatience. "This game didn't make me feel like a detective!" on user said, that is because that user did not detect anything, just pure incompetence. Make sure to take your time, not every case will be solveable right away, sometimes the killer didn't leave enough evidence to track, but more than that, there are ways around this, to brute force a success. Hint: City Hall Some cases are tough,…

I went into the game thinking that surely people were exaggerating, that the optimization couldn't be that bad. But no, it really is that bad. Kinda hard to get immersed into the game when every few seconds the frames drop significantly. Seriously needs work.

I feel like majority of cozy games i see are kind of dishonest with the saccharine energy they give. I'm looking for a cozy game with a grunge feel or edge to it yet can still be comfortable, something like Obenseuer, Shadows of Doubt and Voices of the void. Do you have any recommendations?

The framework of something really great exists here, but the game feels shallow and incomplete. And it's buggy. By god, the game is unfathomably buggy. It's not unplayable by any means, but be prepared for: - notes and emails that are simply missing words, creating lots of unintentional dead-ends - some elements of a case not being solvable because the game won't register an action was taken, like you arresting the suspect - NPCs getting caught in a loop where they close up their business…

Dev pushed the game to 1.0 a while back. A broken stuttery unfinished mess of 1.0 and then abandoned the game other than a meme update. Dont buy, the game is actually abandoned now and has glaringly unfinished mechanics that were promised before the rushed release to be implemented properly

I have... mixed feelings about this game. It had the potential to be an insanely good, mechanically deep, and properly…

Shadows Of Doubt is a stupid game for the thinking (hu)man, I once completed a job, and since I already had a pretty nice apartment and more than 100.000$ saved up - I decided the healthy thing to do was to gift Starch Cola(tm) to random strangers, when I got bored of that, I decided to follow a random person. Broke into their apartment, got their name and the name of their partner, fingerprints, where they all work, everything. found a poem on the wife's nightstand that told the tale of her…

This was a really promising game that I was excited for when it was in early access, thinking they'd add more content and create an even better gameplay loop...but then they kinda didn't when the full release came out, and the game felt pretty much the exact same as it did in early access. It really feels like it's missing a lot to make this game feel truly replayable, as whenever I try to revisit, I really only end up playing for 2 hours before stopping again for a while, as all the murders…

It's a great game and I like how the interior for almost every building is designed, but I'm kinda bummed out that I can't use any firearms. I know it's a detective game, but when almost every NPC can shoot you, why can't we shoot back? Also I feel like every NPC gangs up on the first chance they get. I'd say the game is like 6/10 because there's a lot of things holding it back.
