Art is beautiful , but the gameplay sooooo boring... feels like playing Fireboy & Watergirl solo ... slow, repetitive, and not very engaging.

«Light, shadow and… 98 birds» Shady Part of Me impressed me with its unique mechanics. You play as two characters - a girl and her shadow. The shadow can only move on flat surfaces. The girl is afraid of light, while the shadow fears darkness, so you constantly have to work around these limitations. To complete a level, they must help each other reach a certain point and progress further. The game starts with fairly …

This game is nothing short of a masterpiece. Not only is its main gameplay premise—playing both as a girl (who is afraid of the light), and as her shadow, thus switching between 2d and 3d puzzles and platforming—incredibly interesting in its own right, it is the execution of that premise, that really elevates this experience above many others for me. Gameplay-wise, every element clicks, there are varied and creative …

The puzzles were perfect and the story was very heavy and lovely- if you have ever struggled with yourself, this game will hit pretty hard. ♫♪♥

I love the puzzle concept, where it combines both 3D and 2D gameplay. Recommended if you love puzzle games. Full review below. GAMEPLAY In this game, you will play as both a girl and her shadow. As the girl, you will play in a 3D setting. As the shadow, you will play in a 2D setting. Both of them have contrasting weaknesses. The girl is afraid of light, while the shadow needs light. You need to work them together to …

positive · AI labelView post →Everybody now: "I'm the Shady Part of Me, the real Shady Part of Me All you other Shady Parts of Me are just imitating So won't the real Shady Part of Me please stand up Please stand up, please stand up?" (Sorry, couldn’t resist, but seriously now.) I’d most of all like to start by saying: I’m a sucker for this kind of game, but what exactly would I mean by that? Dark puzzle-platformers with a certain cuteness? Short indie adventures? Or atmospheric casual games with a complex story? Maybe…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you're asked about a puzzle game where you play as a little girl with an imaginary friend that can travel through shadows, which game fitting the concept comes to mind? Surprisingly many options fit that description! "Shady Part of Me (2020)" "Contrast (2013)" "Tandem: A Tale of Shadows (2021)" A few other lesser examples are: "In My Shadow (2021)" and the short "Iris.Fall (2018)". "Shady Part of Me" is a promising young indie game. The game was published by Focus Home Interactive,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →quite an enjoyable platform game, fun puzzles, beautiful audio-visual performance. though recommended, I have to say, my pleasant game experience was totally ruined when a male voice started talking. don't need some guy to judge and instruct the protagonist and act like he's helping okay? such a bummer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →umm, this may be the hardest review for me to give out because i'm genuinely neutral about this game it did feel good to see credits rolling but.. i think the last couple hrs of the game was a time waste pros: 1. super cool beginning 2. related to the character mostly 3. wow, great shadow-y concept, similar to another game called Contrast cons: 1. dragged on way longer than it should've 2. puzzles became boring and frustrating halfway through the game, making it less of a chill game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, if you like puzzles with a hint of anxiety, this is a good title, despite being a small game it was very well made,i like it.The soundtrack, the effects, everything is strangely perfect. It's a very relaxing and slightly scary game, I love how it develops and how it captures the player's attention. The first time I played it I hadn't paid attention to the dimension of this game, how wonderful it is, after I started focusing on it I just loved it, the immersion, the atmosphere, the desire…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wish Steam had an option between “Recommended” and “Not Recommended”. As a puzzle game, the art style and soundtrack are great, but the story—especially the final chapter—is very hard to accept. Based on the narrative, the protagonist seems to struggle with some mental health issues. Personally, I interpret it as something similar to Dissociative Identity Disorder. The environments and dialogue create an oppressive atmosphere that still carries a sense of hope. The GIRL is portrayed…

neutral · AI labelView post →Nice short puzzle game, you play as this lil girl and her shadow xD you need both of them at the same time btw prolly she suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum which is basically an extreme sensitivity to sunlight. It is very rare with roughly a thousand people in the world who have it, since when she is on the light she almost die and I need to rewind. Pretty relaxing game altho the game mechanics aren't good... sometimes you can't jump even if you try it's a bug. You can't crouch also you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very boring and stuffy. Better to replay Limbo, Inside, Little Nightmare again
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everything an indie game should offer: creativity, beautiful platforming puzzles, and music with two different mixes for two different faces of the same person. Deserves more attention and is highly recommended.

neutral · AI labelView post →Beautiful puzzle adventure with a thoughtful story. Some of you may already know the play with shadows from the game "Contrast". The puzzles are partly easy, partly challenging. Sometimes the solution is obvious, sometimes you are desperate. In the end, everything was solvable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldIMeuxkPSw

neutral · AI labelView post →Relaxing game to play, not fast paced or you have to react quickly or keep dying. Puzzles are good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shady Part of Me is a sweet, relatively short puzzle platformer game. You play as a girl and her shadow, trying to find the exit! Overall, I enjoyed it. I got stuck on a few of the puzzles, and sometimes I'd figure out that I made a mistake earlier and would have to rewind pretty far back to undo it, which was slightly annoying. But, if you like these kind of games, I would definitely recommend playing Shady Part of Me :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you Developers. Great game, great puzzles, very creative puzzles. and well done with the music. this game got me so emotional inside, the character(s) are so cute and adorable and funny. it makes you remember your childhood and the way reminding you how you dealt with other kids in that innocent way. Note: I only had to listen to the French version of the voice acting. because the English version seemed off the character(s).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually beautiful and I'm gutted I won't get to see the rest of the game, but the platforming 'puzzles' are hollow, arduous and not worth your time.

Then the new Phantom Brave releases later this week...and I am nowhere near finishing the first game in preparation for it. neutral · AI labelView post →I think this game is an interesting combination between LIMBO and Little Nightmare, although not as eerie as the other 2 mention and much more forgiving with its Megaman-like rewind button, Shady Part of Me still successfully leave its own mark with somewhat cryptic narration and a lot of room for interpretation. And reading the credits I realized that there were a lot of people behind this small game, and the game localizes its audio in 4 other languages! If you haven't got this game through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has taken the place as one of my favorite games. I really loved the art style, graphics and narratives of the game. They way the protagonist is afraid of light that was really sad but her shadow, which was helping, motivating and always being by her side to let her have a bit push to go to the light, that's really was heart-touching according to me. Even though it's just a puzzle game but yet it's story and animation speak a lot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent little puzzle game with stunning artwork. A lovely discovery that was recommended to me by a friend, whom I’d like to thank very much for this experience. A short game with a strong emphasis on puzzle-solving and platforming. The story is enjoyable and really moved me. I highly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an absolute shame that it's being reported that Douze Dixièmes is potentially going out of business. I enjoyed Shady Part of Me, but this should have been the studio's "killer game". It's so competent, it's so well-rounded... But unfortunately, we live in, well, the darkest timeline. [end]
positive · AI labelView post →Similar to what another reviewer said, I really wish there was a middle ground between the options: Recommend or Not Recommend. Or something like Recommend but with Considerations. The art and animation in this game are really beautiful and there are some clever puzzles as well. I really would've loved to continue playing and discover the story behind it all, but I just couldn't - primarily because it kept triggering my motion sickness and gave me headaches because of my sensitivity to light.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First game beaten of 2026 - Shady Part of Me. A cool little French indie. A puzzle platformer about an anxious and her shadow. Rarest of all possible outcomes for me 16/16 achievements. It’s only on GamePass through January but only takes about 6-8 hours to finish. Coraline vibes.
positive · AI labelView post →A very heavy subject centered on mental health, and I genuinely related to the character, especially the moment when she says “THEY ARE WATCHING!” I feel like this is a game I will remember for a long time! Huge props to the team for tackling mental health in a meaningful way, not just on a surface level. The environment design and character models are strong and gave me Little Nightmares vibes, though they do feel a bit simpler in comparison. I also wish the character animations were a bit…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice game, but got very repetitive after 2-3 hours.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ENG+RU review. This game's superb concept, gameplay, and setting are rarely found elsewhere, making it a rare and unusual gem in the world of video games. While this game won't give you a ton of adrenaline, action, or excitement, it does offer a wonderful storyline intertwined with exceptional, unique gameplay that will leave you incredibly emotional, touching on deep spiritual themes related to self-discovery, self-knowledge, self-understanding, and self-acceptance. I highly recommend this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game #69 (nice): Shady Part of Me Not my typical genre (puzzle platformer with narrative elements) but I wanted a shorter and chiller(?) game before I played Hell is Us and Cronos. It's good, carried by vibes and aesthetic. But there's some good themes, but got frustrating towards the end.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's a small, lovely game. I like it. It's got a lot of puzzles, which gets tiresome toward the end. I played with french voices since they sounded better in my opinion. Gameplay got cool shadow/light mechanic with new elements and details introduced as game progresses. Story is simple, with straightforward ending. Perfomance is fine, i did not experience any bugs. I recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ditto the comments on the main voice actor being annoying, luckily there's a mute option in settings. otherwise the game is stunning visually and musically with enjoyable puzzles that utilize the game's mechanics to their fullest
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very mediocre to bad game, 4/10. The puzzles were the best part of this game but they were fine at best. The artstyle was interesting only for a short while. The story was a huge drag and extremely boring. One thing almost made me quit this game - the VA choice for the little girl was the worst thing that happened to this game. I almost scratched my skin off listening to her. I don't understand how it can be so irritating to me, but I had to turn the voice off for me to just keep going. And…

positive · AI labelView post →8/10 Fun. Casual. Artistic Puzzler. Pretty simple, but def a few sections that took a lil thought. Overall a unique and fun time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LIVE! www.twitch.tv/nikorin Game: Shady Part of Me It's time to finish this little adventure! Let's see if we can figure out what's really going on behind the narrative.
neutral · AI labelView post →I've heard a few people compare this game to Contrast, in that you switch between you and your shadow, and that it makes this idea “done before” but personally, I think this is a very fun twist on the idea. It's far more puzzle focused, with some unique ideas that spice up the gameplay throughout. And it almost plays like a fairytale, a girl who's afraid of the light and a shadow that dies in the dark having to work together. Just a really underrated little gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to review this game while it was still fresh on my mind, and I just finished it 5 minutes ago. What an absolutely beautiful game. The narration was that of my own thoughts, feelings and emotions as someone that struggles with mental health issues. This game was my emotional support for the time that I played it. Nothing compares to resonating, feeling seen, heard and understood within my own fantasy world while playing a game- and this one did it for me. This game reminded me that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally finished it after many years of not doing so and while it isn't exactly revolutionary it doesn't need to be, it's very interesting in how it wants to tell it's story through the puzzles themselves and i find that more than enough to be a unique experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can recommend only if you enjoy puzzle games. I'll say the puzzles here, while well designed, eventually felt repetitive and overstayed their welcome. There also wasn't quite the narrative or emotional payoff that I was hoping for. Other than that, it's a technically sound game with a lot of artistic expression. It's really cool to see some of the visual and design language, taken from this game and applied in the future to MIO: Memories In Orbit. That game, the follow-up from these devs, is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had fun playing this cute game about accepting your inner self. Puzzles are not so difficult yet they may be challenging sometimes. Music is great, Hannah Murray is fantastic, it was nice listening to her two characters through the whole game. The final chapter is the best like it supposed to be. Overall Shady Part of Me left a very positive impression on me, can recommend it. Ah yes, the art direction is top-notch, visuals are wonderful. Love it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute game, I enjoyed the story and what it was trying to tell.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shady Part of Me is such a beautiful little puzzle game. You play as a girl and her shadow, switching between light and dark worlds to solve creative puzzles that actually tie into the story. The art style feels like a moving watercolor painting, and the music + voice acting give it a really emotional vibe. It’s short (around 3–4 hours), but every minute feels meaningful. Chill puzzles, deep story, and a dreamy atmosphere — perfect if you like games that make you think and feel at the same…
