shapez 2 - Factory
Developer tobspr Games
Shapez 2 (stylized as shapez 2) is a factory simulation video game developed by tobspr Games, as a sequel to Shapez (2020). In the series, the player operates a factory which produces geometric shapes, through operations such as cutting and rotating source primitives. Those shapes are in turn used to upgrade and unlock equipment for producing further shapes. Shapez 2 expands on this concept with new mechanics, such… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 272 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (14,988 of 15,462 positive).
Players praise the game's clean UI and satisfying automation loop. [1][2][3] Some find it lacks depth and feels empty compared to other factory games. [4][5][6] Several reviewers note bugs and performance issues, including RAM demands and floating-point errors. [7][8]

It's a puzzle game, those comparing it to factorio or satisfactory shouldn't be, it's not even close to those games. You make shapes, cut them, combine them, move them around. You plug parts of the factory together like building blocks. It's fun for a bit, but not fun enough for the asking price. In the 10 hours I played I've not yet seen all the mechanics of the game, but I really can't bring myself to play it any …

This was a surprise hit for me. I thought that a factory game with "no purpose" wasn't going to grab me (Satisfactory didn't, despite being a very well made game), but the way things are done here worked fantastically for my tastes. I think what really made a ton of difference for me in Shapez compared to other factory games is simply how snappy the controls are. The best way that I can put it is that it feels more …

Everything you love about automation games, without everything you hate about automation games. It is made for any type of audience, very chill and relaxing, no time limit, no combat, but it's also deep and can be as complex as you want. You can build really crazy big factories, or a Make Everything Machine, or just keep it simple and pretty. I love the fact that I can just build without needing resources or power, …

shapez 2 is one of those games where you sit down for “just 20 minutes,” and suddenly it’s 3 hours later, and your factory is a big bowl of spaghetti.. It’s incredibly satisfying to play. The main loop of building, optimizing, and scaling never really gets old. Watching everything flow smoothly just scratches that itch of perfection. Everything feels clean and well-designed. Easy to get started, and there’s a lot of …

60 of 332 · most liked firsti bought this because it said "overwhelmingly positive" and "automation". so i expected the most fleshed out "automation" game i played to this point. i was extremly saddened, when i noticed that this game is really not so automation at all, and very...... idk really empty. you just form shapes and thats it. its really that simple. and it stays that simple. you cannot do anything wrong. you advance very fast, so you unlocked everything very fast. the new techs dont add anything of real value,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly chill game. Very satisfying. Played mostly on Steam Deck, using the top community controller config - with some edits of my own gradually added. Using the Vulkan renderer and minimum graphics settings I get about 22 FPS in the main menu which shows a very busy looking factory. While playing I average 40-60 FPS.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is and is likely to stay the only steam game I will ever review out of the 60+ games in my library and thousands of hours through steam. NEVER. IN MY LIFE. HAVE I EVER BEEN SO ADICTED TO A GAME THAT I SIT DOWN AND PLAY FOR THREE HOURS STRAIGHT ON A FIRST PLAYTHROUGH. NO SNACKS. NO COFFEE. NO BREAKS. I COULD NOT LOOK AWAY FROM MY FACTORY IF YOU ASKED ME TOO. THIS GAME TICKLES MY BRAIN. Praise be the shapes. -Brackets

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the hell out of shapez years ago and was excited for 2. I played the early access last year and just never got hooked. Then I tried it again once it 1.0 was released and... yeah it's real good. Here's the big highlight for me, a super simple but incredibly impactful choice the game makes. See, in the first game, machine ratios, i.e. how many machines it took to export a single full belt, was quite complicated. Even splitting a belt was complicated, requiring a unique machine. This…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed Shapez 2. There's a good amount of content, and the progression feels satisfying all the way through a normal playthrough. Building and optimizing factories is as addictive as ever. My only major issue is what happens after you finish the game and want to move on to the next difficulty. Having to unlock every technology from scratch again feels more tedious than challenging. At that point, I've already proven that I understand the mechanics—I don't need to repeat the same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Out of all the factory style building games out there that I've bought and tried, this one is my absolute favorite. The reason is its complex, but not so complex and difficult to learn that you get frustrated easily like some of the others I've tried and gave up on. As someone with a 66 year old brain, I do find this game to be extremely rewarding and interesting to play which I'm hoping pays out big cognitive benefits to slow down the problems associated with brain aging. I'm really looking…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an amazing fun and chill factory game. There is no pressure, no survival mechanics... just solving puzzles, building factories all while listening to a very fitting and relaxing soundtrack. I have spent hours just making and remaking factories as well as taking full advantage of their blueprint system so as not to be repetitive. The current "Classic" game modes are well worth the price for this entertainment with 3 levels of difficulty plus being able to add/remove various challenges.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First automation game that doesn't force me to manually delete and replace every machine in my factory whenever I need to move it over by one square. One of the best games I'd never heard of before. The automation process is very well refined and leaves out many of the annoying mechanics and excessive button pressing other games require. Highly recommended for anyone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some absolute dunce left a negative review for this game because he thought it wasn't revolutionary so I'm posting this to offset that. It's Shapez2, if you like automation/factory games, this is up there amongst the best. It has everything including complexity, variety, scope, and ease of approach. I love it, try it idk

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasn't sure I'd like this one . bought it anyway because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Opened it for the first time last night and somehow ended up playing close to 20 hours straight. Yeah. Addicting, satisfying, everything I love in a game. Don't buy this if your sleep schedule matters to you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a fun game, but its not tickling my passion for automation, as there's no resource management. You just keep expanding outwards without any threats. Its also really tedious to start over the game without the level 3 upgrade. You need to play with blueprints up to level 2, then after unlocking level 3, you need to REPLACE all your blueprints to level 3. Then imagine doing the same thing for every difficulty you play. The build up is just not fun. I rather just play Factorio or Satisfactory.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was not ready to leave Early Access. The game can be fun and has good ideas, but is plagued by bugs. If you stray even as far as 5 sectors away from the center of the map, floating-point precision errors will make your screen flash and cursor misaligned. With the new Manufacture Mode allowing you to build factories wherever, and the Default Spiral Map Generation necessitating going further than before to mine asteroids, this bug makes the game unplayable. Unfortunately, in their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an excellent game about making shapes. highly recommend to anyone that enjoys automation and logistics games. some thoughts in no particular order: the game was extremely demanding with RAM. i had to actively watch my usage during playthroughs with very high machine counts (2-3 million) because it would get very close to my max. the game was very stable otherwise. the visuals are very satisfying. i really enjoyed watching the shapes getting manipulated through my factories.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might be the most perfect game about writing code without any text coding whatsoever
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Astonishingly deep and grindless - resources are infinite and there are no time constraints. If you want to focus on designing factories rather than on mantaining them, this is the game for you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but still waiting for Steamdeck support...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is satisfactory but the big ass creatures dont get in your way or you carry one stack too little wire so you need to take a huge detour. (I love this game as much as I do Satisfactory <33)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is how you make a sequel. A ton of QOL featues, amazing graphics, a good amount of variety in the gameplay elements and minimal constraints. It's pure factory game content. Even though it's in early access, it very well could have been released as a full game, but i understand why they chose to do it as it is. Incredible game, looking forward to see how it shapes itself in the future
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A true masterpiece. No other game (probably not even any other software in general) has the level of detail that this game has, especially in terms of how well the UI works and how you interact with the factory using keyboard and mouse. Most games struggle to get simple UI interactions right, like holding to confirm, where you can almost always do wonky things and interrupt animations in all the wrong ways, possibly even leading to softlocks or unintentionally doing an irrevirsible action.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best part of this game that separates it from other popular factory games is that it respects your time. No spending hours figuring out resources, power, enemies, anything. It's just building factories, there's no friction getting in your way (but still a challenge). Shapez 2 also has amazing music and graphics that complement the gameplay very well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**Edit** Review was re-written for version 1.0 TLDR: Its fun but not rewarding enough for my taste I love factory games, they tickle my brain in just the right way to make time dissapear into fun dopamine fueled dreams. Shapez 2 gives me that feeling but it lack any sense of urgency or progression I get from games like Factorio of Satisfactory. In Shapez 2, there is very little compounding of resources carying over to the next objective that forces you to rethink your designs and putting out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game to sink hours into. I almost burned down the house because I lost track of time playing the game and left the oven on for too long but otherwise would highly recommend just make sure you have a timer or something to remind you of your oven.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Factorio for people with dents in their head (like me) It is so damn easy to execute your ideas once you have an idea. No resource costs/time constraints make me feel good about laying out 100 machines for a scuffed solution, only to realize while constructing my contraption that i can do it with a fraction of the parts. The QoL, interface, and for lack of a term, the game just knowing how to make your keypresses do what needs to be done is so finely tuned it's bordering on magic. This is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I am enjoyed the overall gameplay and do recommend the game... here are several technical and design issues: - Performance Optimization: significant slowdowns of late game saves, particularly around completing Milestone 7/8 where the scale of the builds increased to maintain a full spacebelt. This occurs even when delivering only a single spacebelt of milestone shapes, with all early milestone deliveries staying on two levels (12 belts). - In-Game Music: The default tracks feel short and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only just got this game today. Now I understand. The factory MUST expand. There is no sleep, there is no food, there is no life. There is only the factory. (Seriously get this game, what is wrong with you?!)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →shapez 2 is a good game. But my problem with it is that there is simply no friction. Everything is infinite, and nothing has consequence. I think a lot of factory game players will enjoy this lack of consequence. The nice way to put it is that the game is "laid back". But for me the lack of constraints causes the experience to lose meaning.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun game that scratched my itch to play Factorio without completely consuming my existence the way Factorio does.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very relaxing factory game. Everything is stripped away. You're just designing new factories for increasingly complex shapes. And the logistics to move the parts. I played it on normal difficulty, and happy to have done so. - Music is good. I've listened to it for almost 50 hours and it was never annoying. - Quality of life is good. - Tutorials are good. Typically a two minutes read for a new machine. I haven't reached the end game yet, nor am I sure I will continue playing once…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing factory game and def a good game to play when you are bored, however if you do not like waiting long periods of time i would say to not play this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like the core essence of factory games without any constraint except placement and efficiency, then this game is for you. I find it has been brilliantly executed -- the graphics are stellar, the UI is good and the music is perfectly unobtrusive. Every part of the game is designed to put you into a delightful flow state where time just disappears and you can leave the real world behind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personal Rating: Extremely Positive (98%) I LEGIT CAN'T FIND ANY NEGATIVES ABOUT THIS GAME! Shapez 2 is a factory builder - one of the simpler ones out there. But that doesn't mean it's a no-brainer. There are SO many shapes to make, and you have to make hundreds, if not thousands. To me, the real difficulty is the logistics and scaling things up, as there isn't much space. The world you are given is essentially infinite, and sometimes it's more worth to go out and look for better…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game but for not me. maybe its just me but the whole concept of basically a giant sandbox and no currency or martials needed to advance through the game, just doing endless orders makes it feel unrewarding due to lack of joy of making something big and then deleting it so you can make a different shape. as a person you enjoys automation and factory games this one has been my least fav one. i would suggest this for people are new to the whole concept of automation. but besides that not too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played shapez 1 and it was okay - but shapez 2 is far better. you underestimate how much the controls in this game improve it - the anchor system for conveyors, everything having nice keybinds. my main thing is the blueprint system. you have it pretty much from the start - but even without blueprints you can copy+paste literally everything with no hassle. resources are not an issue for building, which i like compared to satisfactory+factorio, which make it more of a chore. this is PURE…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →factorio lite. it's not surviving by building a factory, it's just building the factory condensed down into everything good about it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shapez 2 is a really solid and polished game. The mechanics are smooth, the QoL features are great, and everything works. But... You create complex shapes, send them into a vortex, and that’s it... you just get another task. It feels like you throw your work into nothingness. It doesn't feel rewarding. It’s a well made game, but simply not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is beautiful. The controls are good, the UI is high-quality and pleasant. The music is amazing. Trains are finally simple and useful, not just an alternative to conveyor belts. But what's the point of all this? There's very little room for optimizing the space occupied by the machines that perform shape operations (conveyor routing and machine count). And once you realize that modularity is the only way out, and that you need to copy entire platforms rather than specific…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy to understand the controls and chill to play through. No need to grind for resources, but spend all your time making facinating factories! I recommend, 1.0 update also good improvement!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is still in EA, and I really wanted to like this game. Seeing reviews about it being relaxing and that it eliminated arbitrary things that some other factory games have, I figured it would be relaxing as Opus Magnum is. Challenging puzzles, but great QoL and a relaxed pace as you tweak to the solution. Unfortunately, this game locks basic QoL things behind hours of work. My specific example: you're building assembly lines to maybe make two things at once. Then the next thing you need to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shapez 2 is a fine factory game, as long as you're okay with most of your builds becoming useless once you complete the qouta system that this game uses. Since there are hundreds off thousands of different "shapez" once the vortex stops asking for a very certain kind the build you made for that shape becomes dead weight, and at the level I presume this game gets up too, spending 12 hours on a single factory making a very specific shape just to have to delete it after the vortex gets bored…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More on the casual/zen side of factory games. Don't have to contend with enemies. Mostly don't have to worry about limited resources. Good music. It's rather mesmerizing watching the products interweave and jump into the void.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will strive for efficiency and build no spaghetti factories.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am unable to recommend this "game", because for me it feels like an idle game you set the shape then go do something else while it runs that job, very early on you put a red circle on a blue square and the game wants 8000 units, after set up I watched youtube for the duration. Thats not a game I want to play, a game that I run while doing something else seems pointless to me. If you like it then I'm happy for you, its just not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While a huge fan of factory building games this one seems to undercut itself with the endless supply of everything. There is no real reason for optimization, and often you scrap things for the next design. While the game has unlocks they are quite limited and often, due the fact everything is endless, feel underwhelming. It is no bad game at all, but there are better choices out there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is objectively good: the controls are smooth, almost everything is intuitive, and I think this makes a fine factory game for beginners. BUT, I think the impermanence truly ruins it for me. I tend to overproduce in factory games, since scaling up is more fun to me than completing objectives. I aim for high production rates, and I enjoy the challenge of sustaining it. But when you only need like 3000 of a certain shape and then you never have to make it again (outside of operator…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's version 1.0. The game has "Factory" in the title. 2 good reasons to have a look again at Shapez 2 - Factory! See you in a couple minutes over at twitch.tv/jaybirbgames! CAW!
positive · AI labelView post →Very big on factory and automation games and this is a wonderful addition. For a more chill, laid back, problem solving puzzle game that rewards efficiency, optimization, and blueprints, it checks many boxes for me. Its essentially what I wanted out of Factorio. A game that can be played on underpowered laptops yet look beautiful on your main gaming rig. No resource scarcity or depletion. No annoying buggers or hundreds of machines to learn and optimize. Game is more complex and has more depth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have chosen to be a bit obtuse with "negative review" here as I'd describe my thoughts as: "I liked my time with this, but there are definitely issues that have now irked me enough that I'll let this one rest for a good while". If I talked about something in that tone to a friend, then I don't think that's a positive review at least. Insert comment about wanting a middling option for a review here. Shapez 2 is an automation game distilled. You don't have xenos gnawing at your concrete…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where did all the time go? The purest factory builder, no abstractions of "copper" and "bolts", just geometric shapes and colors. My only complaints are that even with the Supporter Edition soundtracks and Shapez 1 soundtrack the music repeats a little much, but it's a great soundtrack. Technically sound as long as you don't stray from the default DX11 renderer. My only real technical issue is having problems zooming to a platform lying under another platform.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of fun. The relaxing part of this game is that you can just spend however long you want optimizing your builds and the game will not punish you for spending too much time or resources. This game truly is about the art of the factory, and you set the bar on efficiency. The game runs great, it can handle very large and complex factories no problem, and runs great on Proton/Linux as well. Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of, if not the best factory game! In other games that has automation and building mechanics, for example Factorio, I'll start the factory by manually building machines. As I progress in the game, I'll come up with better blueprints, but to upgrade my existing base, I'll have to manually demolish everything and build them again. It's quite a big hurdle before I can tech into robots that can make this much easier. So, I often find myself getting burned out before I become "powerful"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the kind of niche game that will either really grab you or you won't care about; I'm definitely in the former camp myself! That part is a matter of taste, but objectively the game has great UX, which is incredibly important for getting into a game like this: you don't want to constantly be fighting the interface when you're focused on building, and it's clear the developers put a lot of thought into making interactions as smooth as possible in such a complex game. The general aesthetic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I decided to try this game, curious to see what this was about, with some reservations because I've never played anything like it... and it's magic. My biggest concern was that it was going to be unintuitive, confusing and janky. The trailer is accurate: easy to get into, a challenge to master. The controls become intuitive very quickly. Understanding the geometry of how to put things together is a joy and a welcome challenge. A truly fantastic find in a genre I never anticipated I would…
