I can't believe I waited nearly two years before watching Shogun (2024). Wow! 😌
After the exquisite treat of 16th century Japanese culture and traditions that was Shogun (2024), this feels tacky and peppered with a western idea of what Samurai culture was.
🎬 THROWBACK: The Original 1980 Shogūn mini-series director, Jerry London, criticized the 2024 Shogūn adaptation Claiming his version was far more 'entertaining' Born 1/21/1947 = Year of the DOG 🐺 2024 = DRAGON Year 🐉 🐺 ❌ 🐲 = Enemy Signs ~ Show more
BTW, this is what I miss the most from old movies. They weren’t afraid to be these lavish epics with bright hues and colorful costumes. As much as I enjoyed the 2024 Shogun series, its overall palette was too drab and dark. The past had color. You rob us by not showing it!
Rewatching the excellent Miyamoto Musashi Samurai Trilogy and I almost forgot how cool Toshiro Mifune is. He rejects carnal desires for women and instead chooses the solitary Zen path of the warrior. Uh hello, based department?
