Some reviewers note the music is repetitive across stages. [1][2][3]

I'm into previous Shikhondo... Pros: + Visual-style; + Bosses; + Pretty good Donmaku. ...so, I have some claims! Cons: - Really sh***y Music on stages (out of visual-art) and ALWAYS the SAME on every boss-fight; - Hard to see selected circle on menu with difficulties. Conclusion! Result: = 2nd Shikhondo? For WHAT? Same backgrounds, worst design for an enemies. IMO - pointless 2nd part!

I got this one due to having the 1st Shikhondo being made unavailable on Steam. However the question is, why would anyone want this when it literally has no extra contents compared to the first one? Does it have extra characters? No. New OST for different bosses? No. Same boss battles? Yes. Only one new stage. Why not more? No custom backgrounds/profile frame, image, icons. If you own the first one, this one you may …

Quirky and detailed visuals, beautiful and distinctive backdrops. Stands out from other shmups. The music is good though just above average. Level design is super fun and bosses have some unique bullet patterns I've never seen before in other games. I like that you can choose between additional power or an extra life as a reward between levels. Best feature is the multitude of modes to suit every skill level. Very …

The game is beautiful. The only downside I can think of is that having the same boss theme in every stage grows old very quick.
Summarised from 24 of the 32 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 14, 2026. How summaries are made
82% of the 17 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage. The complaint that keeps coming up: repetitive music, especially same boss theme. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

As per usual, the weekend brings about another weekly open thread! All topics welcome! I had a pretty busy week so I didn't get a lot of play time, but I did manage to squeeze in a couple of runs of Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage. So far, so fun, but I haven't really dug in. How about y'all? Play anything interesting, lately?

Here is this week's open thread, where all topics are fair game! Games included! And feel free to check in over the course of the week for comments about things that may not make sense as full posts. What's everyone been playing? I'm still working my way through the Hyrule Warriors series, while making time to get in a few rounds of Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage. Have a great week!

neutral · AI labelView post →Hell ya. I’m the first, and only, reviewer for Shikhondo Blue Pieta. There’s a few incredible moments in this game that really make the experience memorable. It’s also an insanely challenging shmup. Let’s get more shmup reviewers in the rotation.

neutral · AI labelView post →I've picked up Astralbringer (crazy mouse shmup, not actually on sale but that dev prices low and doesn't really do Steam sales), Shikhondo: Blue Pieta (horizontal scrolling shmup), Revo (fast kinda janky gallery shmup), and Beyond Solar (scrolling shmup). I'm looking into Star Vortex and Star Solar (both space ARPGs), but one has a lengthy demo, so I'll spend some time with that for context on those. Space ARPG action standards feel like they are depressingly low, which can be frustrating…

Developed by DeerFarm and published by CFK Co., Ltd., the game embraces the traditions of arcade bullet-hell shooters while introducing a distinctive setting inspired by Korean folklore. Rather than relying on science-fiction themes or generic fantasy creatures, the game draws from myths and supernatural legends, creating an…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't have the screams of the damned destroy my ears after every boss fight.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a better than the previous game, but I don't like how zoomed out the camera is compared to the previous one. It's hard to see a lot of the bullets because they are so tiny. The last game didn't have this issue. Wish there was a way to play with the same camera angle as the last game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you own the previous version of this game then there is an option to buy this at a lower price. This is more of a remake instead of a sequel. There are improved graphics and an extra stage. Great bosses design and music however the tracks are limited and repeat often. A normal playthrough took me about half an hour and the game is tough so I was surprised I cleared it first try. Looking forward to going back.

neutral · AI labelView post →I really disliked the game. It is not that bad but there are a few things I hated a lot and they made it really unfun for me. First and foremost, the visibility. It is bad to terrible at times. Too many colours of bullets, there are certain bullets that are the same colour as your hitbox (green). I did not like the movement of non-concentrated mode, it feels too choppy. Some of the patterns felt really random the first few times I dodged them and very unfun to dodge after I learned them. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game, have had it for a while on my xbox, however on my pc i play it on the vertical monitor and the lives and score are not visible during play, its very minor, but otherwise, brilliant music, brilliant visuals and a great quality vertical shmup would honestly recommend to anyone wanting to start playing bullet hells
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game #4 of the Switch 50 Challenge is done! This was Shikhondo - Soul Eater, a fantastic shmup that was sadly pulled from the eShop at some point. Luckily I have it downloaded AND I have a physical copy, but I had never actually rolled credits before today! Glad I did, this game rules!
