What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 254 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (2,264 of 2,499 positive).
Players praise the game's art style, music, and atmosphere. [1][2][3] Many note the game was made by one person and is impressive for that. [1][4][5] Some find the difficulty too high, even on easy mode. [6][7][8]

EDIT: Devs have addressed some of the balancing issues and are already working on adjustments. - This 'review' will be updated accordingly afterwards. Thanks Devs! Good game otherwise pretty brought down by poor game balance. The Demo for this had made me super excited to play this, it felt like a nice blend of a Twin stick shooter with horror elements, combat had a nice, fast pace to it with you having to line up …

What's mind-blowing about this game is that it was made by one person, programming, art, et al. The gameplay is good, the story is both motivating and intriguing but even beyond that it's really the presentation and mood here that shines the most. It's Parasite Eve x Signalis and perhaps a little more action-y than both of those titles. This game was made with talent and love and it's clear in every facet of the …

This game is a masterpiece. This is one of the best games of this year. I love the art style and music. It is a survival horror game but it does unique things I have never seen in a survival horror game before. It really spices up the survival horror genre as a whole. The combat is really fun. Sometimes it can be incredibly challenging but it can also be rewarding. There's also skateboard sections of the game. These …

Silly Polly Beast is one of my all-time favorite games. It excels in every area, but especially visually. We're not just talking about a meticulously crafted art style full of varied and charismatic designs; we're talking about the entire presentation itself, along with the carefully designed and highly thematic environments, and the beautifully designed enemies, characters, and locations. The game boasts excellent …

89% of the 254 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Silly Polly Beast. The complaint that keeps coming up: difficulty is too high, even on easy. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yup, the only feedback I had from the demo was to address the issue where the game will autosave when you enter an area with a sliver of health. So, since theres no manual saves, its very easy to be stuck in a position where you have no choice but to no-hit the whole area and hope for health items before you reach the next checkpoint. Considering the difficulty of the game already, this is extremely frustrating as its nearly a soft-lock and your only other option is to reset the game. Yall…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to recommend this game alot, the art, music, story and creativity is top notch. However, the 2nd half of the game drops off in quality and polish. And it commits too many of my personal red flags such as backtracking for one slow and boring stealth focused chapter, constant instant death moments, enemies and bosses that constantly spawn minion enemies. These are one of the moments I wish Steam has mixed option for review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh jeez, there's a new Guild Wars 2 expansion out today? I'm so behind on that game. Still one of the best MMOs out there. Some juicy indie stuff today as well, including Silly Polly Beast, which I REALLY liked the demo of. Punk action survival psycho-horror. Very stylish.
positive · AI labelView post →This game had a lot of potential and I was really intrigued in the beginning, but I got increasingly frustrated as it went on, especially with the combat. Before I get into the frustrating stuff, I want to mention the parts the game does well and I enjoyed a lot. - The artstyle looks great - The music goes hard in some fights and the skating sections Now to the combat. The first gun you get is fine for the normal skinny enemies and wolves (3 shots each), but everything else feels so spongy,…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is my favorite game of the year. Such a nice variation on most of the games that i have played in a long time. Good story, good atmosphere, good characters, good gameplay, good level design and fun bosses. The only downside is not much replayability after the first play through other than achievements you missed. 9/10 Even though i 100% the game i will probably play it again soon for a third time just for the atmosphere and gameplay.

Is this game a masterpiece? No, but it is quite good nevertheless. After selecting one of the three difficulty levels (easy, normal, hard), you're ready to go. You play Polly, a pretty young girl who is searching for her sister Alice. Polly and Alice are orphans, and Polly is mute. You are armed with a skateboard – and I mean that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was such a fun surprise, i really enjoyed how weird and chaotic the whole experience is!! its a mix of action, shooting and horror with a really dark atmosphere, but at the same time theres a lot of crazy and unexpected moments that make it feel unique. the combat is fast and satisfying, theres plenty of enemies and strange creatures to fight and the story keeps getting more bizarre as you progress. its definitely not a game for everyone, but if you enjoy dark and unusual games with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could give neutral, mixed, or "not bad but not so good" reviews for games like these. I was ready to love it since I like the atmosphere, style, and themes, but here is the issue: it’s not a very solid game. Silly Polly is not really a Survival Horror; instead, it’s more in line with Deadly Premonition and its contemporary Sorry We’re Closed: these are games that look like survival horror but are just slow shooters/adventures disguising themselves as something else. They have linear…

This game has an very positive score, but I think its undeserved- that the games first impressions are so good that people feel like they love it, and write a review before the problems with this game truly sink in, and they eventually quit before the second boss. You can check the global stats for the achievements if you don't believe me. First I'm going to talk about the good, and the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silly Polly Beast is a game that I want to like but can't because the combat balancing is SO frustrating. I'm not great at games, I picked Easy as I wanted to enjoy the story, even on Easy enemies can eliminate you in a few seconds, the boss fights are insane and it's possible to soft lock yourself through lack of healing items and supplies which cost WAY too much to buy. The balance in the difficulties feels broken, Easy should be Normal, Normal should be Hard etc.. I played through to the…

Also, while there are no spiders in this game, anyone who is scared of/grossed out by centipedes and insects might not want to play this game. If you're a fan of games like American McGee's Alice/Alice: Madness Returns, Sorry We're Closed, and/or anything by Harvester Games, but also wanted the thrill of killing demons to rock music like in Doom,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a few points I want to make before my actual review: 1. I want more people to love this masterpiece and there's a lot of complaints about not being able to try the third person from the start, there is a (sort of) secret way to do this that people may have missed: In the phone on the main menu, go to Settings and click the button with 5 question marks (?????) five times to unlock 3rd person (Called NG+ on this game). I personally recommend you trying the cinematic normal camera for the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game visually looks great and the setup of the story is very reminiscent of games like Alice the Madness Returns as you have flashback about Polly's life up until this point. The problem though comes with the gameplay. It’s the best at the start, enemies are a threat but not tedious to defeat, unfortunately the game then starts providing damage sponge enemies who do massive damage while your main gun seems to be as effective as spitting wads of tissue at them. Your available tools are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The visual design it is so good. But the gameplay. Oh the gameplay is so rough. It's a melee dual stick shooter, except half the time it wants to be a cinematic visual novel. The combat is clearly not the focus. Enemies are input reading like its street fighter 2, lack of visual clarity on hits and misses, the roll doesn't take stamina so you are basically invulnerable, the stamina bar recharges so slowly that you have to constantly take breaks between beating up enemies. There's also a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 - Decent, but hard to recommend Silly Polly Beast is a very impressive game for a small development studio. Strong aesthetics, good amount of content, and fun, fluid gameplay. The devs clearly have the skill to make a great game. The problem is that the game's strengths don't always mesh well together, and rarely combine to feel more than the sum of their parts. For example, the game has a few great visual touches, and a few really impressive moments where its sense of style and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A stylish and moody game that is very impressive for a one man project. The story is interesting, the art and the models are great, and there is a decent variety of gameplay on offer. The environments all look great and have the post-soviet architecture look to it that is going to endear someone who grew up with it. Seeing as the developer is russian, the game's localization seems to include a bunch of russianisms (awkwardly translated russian phrases, terms or ways of saying things) that feel…

positive · AI labelView post →I played the demo a while back and I really wanted to like this game, so i'm very sad about giving this a thumbs down. The story, the characters, and the artstyle are fantastic, but there are some very frustrating sections in this game. Most of the time there is not nearly enough ammo and health items to sustain combat sections and checkpoints can be very unforgiving. Don't get me wrong, i've played some tough games, khazan, code vein, blasphemous, hollow knight, etc. I died an enormous amount…

The story is also really good, You learn a lot about your character as the game goes on, her past unfolds. For the most part it was told very well and left me guessing on certain things. There are issues with getting stuck in situations without ammo or health, Along with the issue of enemies being absolute bullet sponges on hard difficulty. But these are being addressed in a upcoming patch so i wont hold it…

positive · AI labelView post →Silly Polly Beast is a beautiful, story-driven shooter that blends atmosphere with intense combat. You play as Polly, a perpetually unlucky girl who escapes a nightmarish orphanage only to fall into an even darker underworld. The game’s world with otherworldly charm - its fog-covered city and twisted creatures feel like something out of a fever dream. The art style is memorable, and the mix of side and top-down perspectives are interesting. Combat, while exciting, can be frustrating at first -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Silly x Polly has the framework for an amazing game I would love, but the frustrating combat got to be too much for me to push through. I really wanted to recommend this game. The game's framework IS good. I'm interested in the world and the plot and trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together. It's got a strong start, the game looks good and runs well, and I really wanted to see how everything pans out, especially the choices; do they make a difference? However, the combat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is good. Maybe for some repetative, but for me it was not. Some story elements and references are a bit too much on the nose. (Molchat doma for example) But overall I liked almost everything. Buy it and play it. You won't regret it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The artstyle? Fantastic. The music? Totally boppin'. The vibes? Very good. The combat? It's certainly better after the patch, but takes some getting used to. As much as I gritched and yelled at this game, it's still a pretty great title made majorly by one, single person (who has been fantastic at responding to player feedback!). You shouldn't go into this expecting a horror survival or twinstick shooter...more like an arcade-y arena game with puzzles. It's just sometimes the puzzle is "How…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I first saw the demo of Silly Polly Beast, I immediately knew I wanted to fully play it. Which rarely happens to me (I'm the type of person who prefers to play mostly familiar games\series). Game always keep adding some new gameplay elements or combines them, never, not even once game felt boring or unfair. I also liked the story too, to the point I finished about second half of the walkthrough in one sitting, coudn't force myself to stop. Of course I had some difficult moments here and…

positive · AI labelView post →Short version: Aesthetic is good. Design is flawed. I'll try to be brief and fair. Before that I think I need to clarify: this is not a survival horror. It IS horror themed. Pros: - The artistic direction is more than solid. While it could use some polishing here and there, I think the game works really well with what is has going visually and audibly. - Absolute banger OST. - Seems quite polished - didn't run into any issues that I'd consider technical and not design flaws - Some pretty fun…

This experience has such a level of polish to it that I'm not even used to seeing from AAA games, not to mention indies crafted mostly by a single person. This is not to diminish solo made games by any means, but it is me telling you this game is on a whole other level. The combat suffers a bit, many enemies attack with little to no telegraphing. I would recommend not playing on hard til they address this(there seemed to be no achievement for beating it on hard anyways, so it's just extra suffering). That being said some of the fights are actually pretty interesting, especially the final boss. Devs have…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bummed that I'm just not quite enjoying Silly Polly Beast gameplay wise. The game feel just isn't there. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a hidden gem. Has a great plot, world and character design, and unique mechanics that kept me engaged for hours. Well worth the price. The alternating camera views and angles on a 3D world was an interesting concept. And the new 3rd person view from the update was a neat addition. The puzzles in the game were designed in a way that was neither overwhelming nor bland, they were just the right level of complexity with the right amount of variation to actually make them enjoyable.…

positive · AI labelView post →From an artistic, horror-theme perspective, Silly Polly Beast is incomparable, and very memorable. Unfortunately, most of it is let down by gameplay that just doesn't pay off. The core of it is top-down combat, using a gun (that can only be reloaded through enemy drops and occasional barrels in levels), a skateboard (melee weapon), and a dodge roll. A more recent update added a third-person mode, which you can try out, but it doesn't always feel it matches the game's identity or visuals.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After the first patch it is a lot of fun. Most of the issues were addressed. It tries to mix multiple mechanics, and it works well. As soon as you're tired of combat, you get a puzzle, then a skateboarding section, then a Resident Evil style adventure in an orphanage. Orphanage was actually my favorite part of the game. It told a lot of backstory, giving many necessary details and explaining Polly's motivation, and the suspence was good. Especially when traps appeared and I got into one, haha.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished up my first playthrough of Silly Polly Beast and I had an absolute blast! This game is such a unique and compelling experience, blending together a fantastic mix of classic survival horror influences with its own distinct identity. It takes familiar elements (cinematic fixed camera angles, tense exploration, and a mixture of over-the-shoulder and isometric gunplay) and combines them with a striking visual style, creating something that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.…

I'll keep it short; If you're like me, a big fan of that dark, edgy, emo stuff that made games like Silent Hill, Omori, Signalis, Nidiga, LISA, etc. so different from the rest, Silly Polly Beast will scratch that itch you've been feeling.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →all the good about that game get overwhelmed by insatiable desire of the developers to STRETCH GAME HOURS. Orphanage section was horrendous and pure tourture. Image you play beat-n-up with demons and then has to play most horrible and tedious version of RE1 for 1-2h (and I quite love RE1). I had no desire to continue after that.
