What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,045 of 1,187 positive).
Players describe SkyDrift as a fun arcade racer that combines Mario Kart-style power-ups with airplane combat. [1][2][3] Many note the game is best enjoyed with friends, as online multiplayer is now largely inactive. [4][5][6] Some reviewers report technical issues, including crashes on modern hardware and a locked 30 FPS cap. [7][8]

I can not recommend this game to anyone who has a new/modern hardware and runs windows 10. The issue in my case is that the game starts and after loading is crashes. I temporarily fixed the issue by changing the monitor resolution from 1920x1080 to 1024x768, at his lower resolution the games starts but if I change the resolution of the monitor back to native resolution (1920x1080) the game crashes again. Tried to …

I am a sucker for arcade racing games and it blows my mind how Mario Kart is almost universally loved and praised by all gamers, but at the same time no one ever plays SkyDrift. SkyDrift is basically Mario Kart with planes, in other words, Mario Kart meets F-Zero meets Crimson Skies. It is the perfect pick-up and play game. It looks awesome, it will give you an adrenaline rush and it is just plain fun. There are …

This game is surprisingly good. If you haven't noticed yet it is areal cart game, think of Mario Cart and Crash Team Racing style game but with airplane. The graphics and effects are very good for 2011 game. If you like casual cart games go for it. + plane designs are very good + tracks designs are awesome they feel alive (heatwave - have vulcano erupting while you race) there are water falls and so on + fun fresh …

I love this game to death. It's one of the best arcade racing games on the Steam marketplace. The only caveat is the capped frame rate of 30 fps. It will have you asking "why" and searching for a way to uncap it, but it is hard-locked to 30 fps. WHY???

If you enjoy racing games like Hydro Thunder, Diddy Kong Racing, or arcade racing games in general. This is the game you didn't know you needed.
Summarised from 34 of the 203 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 9, 2026. How summaries are made
86% of the 180 Steam reviewers we collected recommend SkyDrift. The complaint that keeps coming up: online multiplayer is dead; no public matches. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of SkyDrift received "generally favorable reviews", while the PC version received "average" reviews, according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. neutral · AI labelView post →Can't recommend. It's a very pretty game, and there's a nice sense of speed, but it's just too inconsistent with things that a racing game should never be inconsistent. For instance, sometimes you can't tell if an area is going to be considered out of bounds or just another way around. NPCs like to put mines in archways. On some tracks, you can simply go around the archways. On others, the "out of bounds" god hand will smash you into the outside of the arch. Sometimes the area that you can…

neutral · AI labelView post →SkyDrift is a game I would really want to like, especially for the discount price of 1 euro (add 1 more for the two DLCs that are not necessary, but why not for this price?). It is a simple racing game with interactive (meaning: give'em all) powerups. It has a theme that reminds me of Crimson Skies or TailSpin, a slightly dieselpunkish environment with various real or retrofuturistic planes. Powerups are basic, but all of them work well. The number of levels is quite low, but they are nice to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is locked at 30 FPS. I tried Googling for a workfound but didn't find one. Other than that, the game is good but 30 FPS is a deal breaker for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a word: mediocre. I was bored of it long before the campaign ended - the AI seems to have unfair advantages over you too, so it isn't an easy sit. It feels much inferior to Sonic and SEGA All-stars Transformed which I was playing previously, which also includes airplane racing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shockingly good. If Indiana Jones made an arcade Air racer, this would be it. Exhilarating, and non stop fun. I got it on deep discount, but would have been stoked at full price. Playing with a controller, and it seems like the game was designed with that in mind, controls are intuitive. Kept me on the edge of my seat, and up waay too late.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As suggested, here are some other games for which I can send codes. (These are from Amazon prime if you care) - Dark Deity: Complete Edition (GOG) - The Smurfs 2 - The Prisoner of the Green Stone (GOG) - Dark Sky (GOG) If anyone knows how to to give away the games that go through Epic, I will post those too. I probably have an epic account somewhere but I won't play them. Those games are: - Let's Build a Zoo - Session: Skate Sim - Mortal Shell - Crime Boss: Rockay City - Lysfanga: The…
neutral · AI labelView post →#1 overall on the Skydrift time attack database! Honestly this is a nice reminder of how proficient I can be in racing games/time trials style games. I have plenty more potential in Skydrift too, but we'll have to see if I feel like pushing myself more in this game or in other games next :)
positive · AI labelView post →If you enjoy racing games like Hydro Thunder, Diddy Kong Racing, or arcade racing games in general. This is the game you didn't know you needed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Used gamepad & finished on medium difficulty) It's okay. Game's old but cheap, and small size (MB. Megabytes. not GB). If you're just looking for pure racing, look elsewhere. You need to use the power-up to destroy enemy plane & protect your own plane / pole position.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be GOAT if plane handling was better A friend recommended it, so i played the demo and had a good time. I bought the game because the demo was fair bit of fun. This is an arcade style flight, combat racing games. You get to pick from a variety of propeller based planes and get various pickups during races. Flying close to the ground, doing stunts, getting kills etc grant boost which is like nitrous. The pickups grant offensive and defensive abilities as well as healing. p.s - even…

positive · AI labelView post →As of today, Fortix (2010) is the 549th best game of all time according to me, directly below Wizorb and directly above SkyDrift. It is part of Tier 25. There are 25 tiers and 572 games in the list #PixelRankings
neutral · AI labelView post →wait a sec! did i tell you about the touhou racing game, Gensou Skydrift? The dev for that basically did this. Flught power's been gimped across Gensokyo, so You & another person gotta balance your ki so you can hover using the other person as a board
neutral · AI labelView post →The game is ok. It's mario kart with place. Good fun. Be aware, due to the game being old, there is no multiplayer. No one play the game. Not much plane in base game (5 or 6) and the base one are better than the one you unlock later. Run perfectly fine on Steamdeck
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this on a whim for a dollar at 90% off during the Winter Sale, totally worth it. Like everyone else has said, it's like Mario Cart with planes (racing with power-ups) to put it simply but maybe that description doesn't do it justice. Gameplay is fun, the controls seemed good, graphics are nice, I recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not what i thought when i bought it. Its nice when you like Controllers, but with keyboard it is/was a pain.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty rail racing game that mired by terrible design features and AI. The graphics are about the only thing decent about this game. Anything else it has to offer is lost in a myriad of problems. First off, you're stuck with one camera angle which for this game, is a major issue, especially since it limits what you can see. Your plane essentially becomes a visual obsticle, making it difficult to see things such as powerups or mines. To make matters worse, there are annoying screen effects…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Skydrift 'Infinity' is the HD and local multiplayer updated version of this game. Both games have about 4 hours of single player content and half of the achievements require online play, which is dead. This game does not have local multiplayer, so if you want that, get 'Infinity'.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had this on the backlog for years, not sure why I bought it, it must have been dirt cheap or part of a bundle. Had to do some 1337 hacker stuff to get it to run at 60FPS. It's a fun game but there really only are three stages and the controls feel a but too unresponsive which makes it quite frustrating. Anyway, at least I played it, it was fun, would not recommend adding this to your backlog there are a lot better games to be played.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →any touhou fangame that looks cool Touhou Luna Nights is baller as hell. Touhou Spell Bubble is a really fun puzzle ball shooting game. Gensou Skydrift is the greatest kart racer ever made where the karts are girls.
positive · AI labelView post →It's like Blur, but mid air. It's a great neat game, flight controls are arcadey but responsive. blasting rival to smithereens is very satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun racing game in the vein of Mario Kart / Crash Team Racing. Power ups and rubber banding included.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →YOU GO FAST AND SHOOT!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simple fun. unfortunately there is a plane and skins that can only be unlocked via multiplayer which isn't exactly lively last i checked
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an arcadey 3D third person view stunt plane racing game where you race through various natural racetracks. The controls are kind of wack and there's no mouse/joystick emulation so you would need to use a HOTAS or you're stuck with the clunky KB interface which is far from perfect. Despite being 9 years old there's 4K support which is a big plus, but overall this just isn't fun to play the way it's presented and with the interface it has.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi-rez 3D airplane racing game. Fly planes in time trials along twisty aerial courses. Use powerups to hamper and even destroy the competition. Unlock new planes with victories and experience. Carmageddon in the air...Airmageddon? You're flying a small plane through an obstacle course made up of natural features or buildings. You can pick up powerups for things including machine guns, missile launchers and mines (no idea how they hang in the air), as well as speed boosts, shielding and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If anybody hears about a game like this one the people actually still play, leave a comment. This is Mario Kart with airplanes and I loved it, but it's outta date now and I can't find anything else like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cross between Super Mario Kart and Wipeout but with planes instead of go karts and no licensed characters. This is a forgotten gem if you just want a casual flying / racing game. The controls are easy enough to learn to have some fun, the "combat" is basically just ways to temporarily knock your enemies out of the race (they re-spawn and keep coming). The trailer shows you pretty much anything you needed to know: https://youtu.be/ZpHEhb2xaPM Bottom line: It's just racing with planes, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is hella fun in multiplay together with some lads, but unfortunately there is no one playing the game in public anymore. But if you can gather some friends you can have a lot of fun for quite some time! Try it out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even for a $1 experiment it is just pure garbage. It's 30 fps locked. Around race 3 I was actually getting used to it when I noticed its one massive flaw. Even on just medium difficulty, if you don't run a near-perfect clean race, another AI opponent will take over first place and even if he is only 2-3 seconds ahead of you it doesn't matter. You will never catch back up to him no matter what. Even if you never crash once, and don't get screwed by rng too much of other racers getting powers and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game to death. It's one of the best arcade racing games on the Steam marketplace. The only caveat is the capped frame rate of 30 fps. It will have you asking "why" and searching for a way to uncap it, but it is hard-locked to 30 fps. WHY???
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SkyDrift is an arcade aerial racing game developed by Digital Reality and published by HandyGames that delivers a fast-paced blend of competitive racing and airborne combat. Rather than pursuing realistic flight simulation, the game embraces a highly accessible style that focuses on excitement, spectacle, and constant action. The concept is simple yet effective: race high-performance aircraft across exotic environments while collecting power-ups and using weapons to disrupt opponents. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great little racing game. I love that there are several paths to take on each course , and there are actual pros and cons to picking different planes instead of just looks. I am honestly surprised that there are not more arcade racers with planes out there. This should be it's own racing genre, like kart racers or anti-gravity racers. P.S. If you want to play SkyDrift, this is the version to get. SkyDrift Infinity is a broken mess disguised as a remaster/upgrade.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Almost forget! Later today at 7:00 PM EST, we shall play Gensou Skydrift! A friend actually bought me the game. :] So, I'll beat the story mode and then maybe play with them sometime in the future!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completion 35 of 2025: Skydrift Infinity 🛩️ This was a fairly short and sweet arcade plane racing game, almost kart racer like with the power ups! It was a very easy completion too, aside from having the patience to play a race every day for 7 days, weird achievement! #achievementhunting

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't really have much to talk about, but I did listen to Toho Bossa Nova 2, despite having never played a Touhou game outside of Gensou Skydrift.
