What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (1,033 of 1,520 positive).
Players praise the game's faithful adaptation of the board game and its strategic depth. [1][2][3] Many reviewers report frequent crashes and technical issues, especially in multiplayer. [4][5][6] Some players warn that online multiplayer is broken or servers are shut down. [7][8][9]

Another board game adaptation, Small World is a fun, short game that can be played in about 30 minutes. It’s a very simple game, but it has depth to it that makes it difficult to master. Small World involves less chance and more strategy than other similar games. To overtake a territory you just need enough tokens. You spend these tokens overtaking each territory, and you only roll the dice if you have a couple of …

Small World, developed by Days of Wonder and brought to digital platforms with publishing support from Twin Sails Interactive, is a strategy experience that translates the spirit of a competitive tabletop game into a clean and approachable digital format. It revolves around a deceptively simple idea: too many factions are fighting over too little land, and only those who adapt quickly will come out ahead. That …

The store page says that this game offers "online PVP", but that is false. The servers have been shut down. Do not buy this game, unless you understand that you will not be able to play with others online.

This game is an aboslutely broken piece of s@!*. My 3 friends and I picked this up and, without exaggeration, we have never managed to complete a full game without at least one of the following technical issues. - Hosting games often doesn't work, at least one player won't be able to find the game once created. - The game crashes constantly. - Sometimes after these crashes, players become unable to rejoin the match. …

Great board game. Unfortunately the digital port is pretty awful. Crashes frequently and consistently (1-2 times per game). The "resume game" feature often gets "stuck" so if you try to pick a game back up after a crash, it'll just keep bringing you to the score screen of the previous game.

There is a world where I never would have gotten to know her and bond over our mutual video game husband and love of Small World.

Unfortunately feels way less over the top nowadays given the stuff the current administration wants to do with the smithsonians.

neutral · AI labelView post →Small World is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is also, unfortunately, a boardgame port from a fantasy boardgame where players vie against each other's territories using the cards they have, gaining gold for each territory held, and at the end of the game the one with the most gold wins. One of the big problems here is in terms of the general design and the way the boardgame was ported.…

I encourage you to check how many bugs their games have, and how little they care about fixing them. Go stroll over their products and the bugs reports, but most importantly, the developer's reply. They have the habit of releasing stuff and strolling to the next product without ever looking back. I have personally written multiple emails to their official Ticket System, spread between months and never got a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this review with a heavy heart because I love this board game and I think this video adaptation is a fine adaptation of the game. If you buy this to play single player only you should be fine. However, if you're buying it to play with your friends... you can't. Several months ago something was done that made it so if you're inviting a friend to play they either won't get your invitation, or will get it but the game will disappear from their queue if they close the game. My…

positive · AI labelView post →Buggy and unstable on Windows; won't even launch on Linux. Good board game, absolutely worthless implementation. Small World deserved better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was Heather’s turn to pick the game for game night tonight. She chose original recipe Small World, and was… displeased… when I beat her score by 2 points to take first place.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been said before, but this game keeps crashing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game specifically because I wanted to use the Steam Remote Play to play pass and play over the internet with my friends. For some reason, either through a bug or intentional attempt at copyright protection it is impossible to view the rules ingame while streaming it to friends via Streams. This is incredibly frustrating and makes the game virtually unplayable when using Steam Remote Play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every game has multiple crashes to desktop for everyone in the game. Seems very unstable. Sad, because the board game itself is great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You cant play it online at all, so no, I cant recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Small World, like a better Fantasy Risk Cat in the box is cute Carcassonne is fun little game Haven't played the Cuphead game yet, imagine cooperative Scrabble
neutral · AI labelView post →A great board game and a reasonable computer adaptation but you can't even set the resolution, it starts in windowed mode by default and it crashes every 10-20 mins. At least in a single player game it saves your game progress so you can resume after a crash but considering how long this game has been out you think they would have addressed some of these issues...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game crashes regularly in freaking single-player. If you reload the crashed game, it just crashes again, so you totally lose the game. Like, I understand that bugs happen sometimes in online multiplayer, but if you can't even get the game to function playing solo then you should not be able to charge for it on Steam. Happened an hour too late to request a refund. Game is good, this version is garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the physical game, but this digital adaptation is prone to glitches and crashing (and has been for a decade).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need to find the tutorial online because the in-game video link doesn't work anymore. Only play this if you played the OG version and you can't meet your friends in IRL.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →look, the game is ok for what it is. the music gets boring fast, and some of the animations are soooo slooooow. i would actually recommend this game, i was actually going to buy it for my grandson and a friend of his, who currently dont live in the same state. neutral · AI labelView post →Cannot get it to work. Cannot get multiplayer going, too many bugs to mention, read other reviews. Seems like even though you pay for it up front, once you go in you have to pay for content. The base game is also a terrible buggy mess, terribly designed and full of bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Small World is a great board game, but beware, there are hardly any players online. Better to be played on BGA. It's even one of the rare cases in which the UI on BGA beats the UI of the app by a mile.
