THE WITCH IS DEAD by THE MUNCHKINS (1939) Yes of course Somewhere Over the Rainbow is the great, hopeful song from the film but let’s instead go for this distilled blast of schadenfreude and revolutionary joy. m.youtube.com/watch?v=kPId...

Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland (1939) As kids, my sisters and I once spent an entire fortnight watching "The Wizard of Oz" every single evening before they went to sleep. It's still probably the film I've seen the most times in my life.

neutral · AI labelView post →This movie is a banger from the opening scene to the last. Also…a gunfight siege scene set to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”? John Woo, you’re a fucking wild man.
neutral · AI labelView post →I would rank Kermit's The Muppet Movie rendition of Rainbow Connection above Dorothy's Somewhere Over The Rainbow, in terms of Important Moments In Film (Re: Rainbows) It's a song I jam to often, even without watching the film, bc it's uplifting and soothing. Music can be created for a purpose and a setting but once it's out there it has no boundaries beyond what you impose upon it. Somewhere Over the Rainbow was written for the Wizard of Oz but it's not like the only way to enjoy it is in a movie theatre. Certainly, music can be more or less appropriate for certain activities and moods, listening to EDM to fall asleep might be self defeating. However, music made for games can evoke all sorts…

neutral · AI labelView post →The cool think about the Wicked performance was the storyline of this sequence. (Yes, I'm obsessed) Ariana Grande opens with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," the award winning song from the 1939 film. It's Dorothy's youthful & innocent wish to be anywhere but where she is - a dream many kids have. 1/3

Playing on a TV by the door is an animated Justice League movie. The Hawaiian version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” plays loudly from a speaker somewhere.

But what strikes me most is the repetitive musical motif - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". #TCMParty #IWakeUpScreaming #victormature

So when I rewrite Club Tropicana to tell the story of The Wizard Of Oz and include several lyrics from Somewhere Over The Rainbow... Or to a lesser extent when I rewrote the Madonna song Frozen to tell the story of the Disney movie Frozen.

And Somewhere Over the Rainbow first illustrated then impact a song could have on film and it still holds a very special place in my heart as an adult. Hearing Ariana Grande open the #Oscers with it. I may or may not be in tears.

neutral · AI labelView post →I'll add as a musical....the songs are rubbish. Again Somewhere Over the Rainbow is so memorable like EVERY song from that film. This didn't have one single memorable song. Just over inflated garbage.
negative · AI labelView post →I'll admit to never being fond of musicals, but Somewhere Over The Rainbow from the original film is such a beautiful and sweet song. If that exact same song happens today it would go "SooommmmmeewhhheeaarrrrAHHHHHohhhAHHHHeaahhhhaahhhhhaohhhhhgghheaoohhhhhEHHHHHH" we'd never get to over the rainbow

When asked on CBS how his view of the Wizard of Oz has changed since he was a kid, he said this.
